Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin, on Sunday, September 1, received defectors from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State.

The defectors were led by the leader of the Askarawan Kwankwasiyya in Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area and former chairman of Bagwai Local Government Area, Alhaji Aminu Ibrahim Gogori.

Barau received the NNPP members at his Abuja residence, according to a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir.

Alhaji Bala Uba Kulkul, a leader of Askarawan Kwankwasiyya in Dawakin Kudu LGA led 15 commanders of the movement to the APC.

With their defection, they have fussed into the Askarawan APC in Kano State.

Kulkul said they decided to dump the NNPP in view of the outstanding leadership style of the Deputy President of the Senate.

He reiterated the commitment of the APC to address the challenges facing the country, urging all to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in his efforts to return the country to the path of progress and prosperity.

Gogori said they decided to dump the NNPP over the failure of the party leaders to fulfill the pledges they made to them while joining the party.

Thanking them for returning to the APC, Barau said:” “I want to start by thanking Allah SWT for this development. APC is your home. You left and now you are back to your rightful place, the APC, the largest political party in Africa. Welcome back. Insha Allah, you won’t regret this action.”

NNPP lawmaker defects to APC, gives reason

Mr Mohammed Isimbabi, member representing Toto/Gadabuke Constituency at the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, has defected from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Mr Danladi Jatau, the Speaker of the house, announced this while reading Isimbabi’s  defection letter during its proceedings on Monday in Lafia.

The speaker said Isimbabi cited division in NNPP at the national level as the major reason for his defection to APC. Jatau has commended the lawmaker for his bold step in joining the ruling APC in the state.

” I want to commend him for taking this very serious decision to join APC. His defection to APC is welcome as a leader of the house,” he said

The speaker said that Isimbabi’s defection would add value to the party.

Also speaking, Alhaji Aliyu Bello,  APC Chairman in the state commended Isimbabi for joining the progressive party in the country.

”Hon. Isimbabi’s defection is very significant. This is the beauty of democracy as Hon. Isimbabi was our former member. Since there is a  lot of crisis in the NNPP at the national level , it is necessary for him to join APC to add value to the development of the state and country,” he said.

The APC chairman also commended Gov. Abdullahi Sule over his developmental strides in the state.

Bello said: ” Hon Isimbabi also joined the party due to the developmental strides of Sule. He has disclosed that five more members will soon join APC.

”There is no more PDP in the country. PDP has failed in government and opposition in the country.”

He said that APC’s doors were open to welcome more people into it, adding, “very soon,  five lawmakers will join APC in the State.”

Bello assured the lawmaker of equity and fairness in the party.

On his part, Mr Musa Abubakar( NNPP- Doma South), while congratulating Isimbabi on his defection, said that he would also join APC soon.

He said: “Hon Isimbabi’s defection is a welcome development. We share common political interests.  I will be leaving NNPP soon.”

Responding, Isimbabi said that he defected from NNPP due to the division within the party at the national level. He, however, appreciated NNPP for giving him the platform to vie for election which he won to become a member of the assembly.

The lawmaker said that he would continue to serve his people in order to improve their standard of living.

”Before taking this decision,  I have gone round the six electoral wards of my constituency to consult them on my defection. They have given me the go ahead to defect to APC,” he said.

  • Kano NNPP rejects Yusuf’s suspension, Kwankwaso’s expulsion

Kano NNPP rejects Yusuf’s suspension, Kwankwaso’s expulsion

The Kano State chapter of the All Nigeria Peoples Party(NNPP) has rejected the suspension of Gov. Abba  Yusuf from the party by a faction of the National Executive Committee of the party, describing it as illegal.

The party also dismissed the expulsion of the leader of the party and its presidential candidate in the 2023 General Elections, Sen. Rabi’u Kwankwaso by the same group.

The party described the suspension as “laughable”, insisting that it was carried out by some expelled members of the NNPP.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the NNPP Chairman in the state, Alhaji Hashimu  Dungurawa, sounded the rejection while briefing newsmen in Kano on Monday.

He also alleged that those that effected the suspension and expulsion were sponsored by some undisclosed ‘outside forces.’

Recall that the National Executive Committee (NEC) of a faction of the party had affirmed the six-month suspension of Yusuf and the expulsion of Kwankwaso from the party.

The resolution of the party was contained in a communique issued on Sunday, jointly signed by Umar Jibril and Omolara Johnson, following the NEC meeting held on May 27.

Dungurawa also described the purported suspension and expulsion as “unserious and of no consequence to the party, whatsoever.”

He wondered how an alleged sponsored group of expelled members of the party could suspend  Yusuf who is the only Governor of the NNPP in the country and expel  Kwankwaso, its National Leader, describing the action as “absurd.”

According to him,the leadership of the party genuinely mandated by members across the country would not be distracted by the action of the sponsored group.

He said, ”it is focused on developing the NNPP to continue to provide good governance to all Nigerians.

”The NNPP as a party, remains strong, winning more members across the country, in spite of the evil machinations of outside forces.”

  • NNPP denies writing to Senate alleging siege by FG on Kano

NNPP denies writing to Senate alleging siege by FG on Kano

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has denied writing any letter to the  Senate, accusing the Federal Government of laying siege on Kano State over the Emirate  leadership tussle.

This is contained in a statement by the NNPP National Chairman, Dr Agbo Major on Friday in Lagos.

The party is reacting to a letter written to the Senate, through its President, Godswill Akpabio by Dr Ajuji Ahmed on June 24.

The letter was titled: “Need for NNPP Federal Lawmakers to Make Urgent and Concerted Efforts to Immediately End the Siege on Kano State by Agents of the Federal Government.”

According to Major, the letter written by Ahmed was without the mandate and authorisation of the leadership of the NNPP.

” Dr Boniface Aniebonam is the founder of the NNPP, holder of the registration certificate of the party,  chairman,  board of trustees and a life member of the board.

“While Dr Agbo Major is the national chairman and Mr  Oginni Sunday is the national secretary, “he said.

“The NNPP stand remains that the Kano Emirate leadership crisis is an internal matter of Kano state indigenes under culture and tradition.

“Political party involvement under the circumstances is wrong. The principle of our party remains focused on peace of the society, development and wellbeing of the greater numbers of Nigerians.

“That the matter is currently before competent courts of law and jurisdiction and any interference by the National Assembly shall further complicate the situation.

“The avoidable tension generated as a result of the actions of the state government in Kano, necessitates the need for vigilance and enhanced security in the state to avoid breakdown of law and order,”he said.

“It is trite for Gov. Abba Kabir Yusuf, Sen  Rabiu Kwankwaso and Elder Buba Galadima to understand that every court order must be obeyed first before complaint.

“The rules of engagement to vacate orders of the court are very clear and unambiguous.”

He said that it was necessary for the national assembly to align with the position that would guarantee protection of lives and property of citizens in Kano state.

” The NNPP as a registered political party in Nigeria is not interested in engaging in any controversy with the Federal Government and its agencies,  particularly security institutions.

“We should be responsible partners and law abiding citizens for the peace and development of Nigeria. The letter and any form of representation by the said Ahmed should be disregarded.

“In an ideal situation, it shall be the responsibility of the NNPP lawmakers to raise the matter on the floor of the national assembly.

“Like we said, the matter is in court and they should go to court, after all, the Kano state governor is in power today via the court.

“NNPP has no role to play because Yusuf is the governor of Kano state and not the party,”he said.

Major urged Elders and the elite of Kano state to come together and resolve the internal Chieftaincy crises.

“We wish to state that Yusuf should concentrate in providing quality leadership in Kano and distance himself from all  avoidable tensions in the state.

“We also appeal to the senate to disregard the illegal and inappropriate letter of the expelled members of the NNPP,” he said.

  • NNPP Youth leader dismisses EFCC’s investigation against Kwankwaso

NNPP Youth leader dismisses EFCC’s investigation against Kwankwaso

The National Youth leader of the New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP), Auwal Musa, has described the EFCC investigation on the former Kano State Governor, Dr Rabiu Kwankwaso, as a political witch-hunt.

He told NAN on Thursday in Kaduna that the action was instigated by some political rivals to tarnish Kwankwaso’s image.

“I challenge EFCC to come out with facts on the allegations, otherwise, we consider it as an attempt to witch-hunt and victimise him,’’ he said.

The leader further argued that there was no justification for EFCC to commence investigation of Kwankwaso from 2015 to 2023 as a former Governor and leader of NNPP.

“ Why did the EFCC wait this long to investigate him , nine years after leaving office and also why investigate party affairs,’’ Musa asked.

According to him, investigating an ‘honest and hardworking’ person like Kwankwaso will only amount to a waste of time.

“Go to Kano and see what he did as a governor, check his records as a  Defence Minister, and a Senator,’’ he said.

Musa urged EFCC to disregard any petition written against Kwankwaso by any politician or any associate.

On NNPP crises, the youth leader said the party had resolved all its internal crises including the power tussle among its officers at the local, state and national levels.

“We have recently conducted elections into various offices in 13 states of the country successfully,’’ he said.

He added that the party had also made changes in its logo and structurally designed a method of campaign ahead of the 2027 elections.

“It is our hope that the NNPP will give a surprise outing and will win national and state seats in the coming elections.

“Nigerian youths are ready to make serious changes in the national political scene.

”We’ll take over government and salvage this country from maladministration,’’ he said.

  • Kano crisis: NNPP not behind unfounded allegations against FG – Aniebonam

Kano crisis: NNPP not behind unfounded allegations against FG – Aniebonam

The Founder of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP),  Dr Boniface Aniebonam, says the party is not behind the unfounded  allegation accusing the Federal Government of creating crisis in Kano State.

Aniebonam stated this in an interview with NAN in Lagos on Thursday.

Kwankwaso was reacting to the ongoing Emirate Tussle in Kano state, alleging further that  Federal security agencies, with constitutionally assigned responsibility for ensuring peace, law and order, had been backing the deposed Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero.

NAN reports that Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso, NNPP’s 2023 presidential candidate had on Monday, accused the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government of attempting to create a new breed of Boko Haram terrorists in Kano state.

Aniebonam said that the NNPP’s stand on the Emirate Tussle had been that it was not a political matter but an internal cultural matter concerning the people of Kano state.

According to him, such weighty and unfounded allegation against the Federal Government is condemnable as it is capable of triggering crisis in the state.

“Kwankwaso has long been expelled from NNPP and so,  his allegations are personal and not the stand of our party.

“We firmly believe that the Federal Government can wade into the matter if it may lead to loss of lives and property of citizens living in Kano state.

“But making such allegation without proof is in our estimation, tantamount to incitement and we totally disagree with that.

“As a political party that is peace loving, we refuse to be dragged into the Emirate Tussle crisis despite being the ruling party in Kano state.

“We also will not be dragged into unsubstantiated allegations against the Federal Government,” Aniebonam said.

While praying for peaceful and fast resolutions to the crisis, Aniebonam urged Gov. Abba Yusuf to tread with caution so as to continue to preserve the peace and respect accorded the state.

He also sued for calm among members of the NNPP in the state, its supporter and people of Kano state.

  • Ondo 2024: Edema emerges as NNPP governorship candidate

Ondo 2024: Edema emerges as NNPP governorship candidate

Mr Olugbenga Edema, a former All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant in Ondo State, on Wednesday, was announced as the candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) for the Nov. 16 governorship poll.

Mr Israel Ayeni, who won the party’s primary on April 26, voluntarily withdrew, paving way for his substitution with Edema.

At the substitution primary held on Wednesday, Edema, the sole candidate of the election, was affirmed by a voice vote by the 180 delegates across the 18 local government areas of the state.

The Chairman of the 2024 NNPP  Electoral Committee, Mr Ayeni Aladelusi, who announced Edema as the party’s candidate, said that there was a constitutional provision for substitution within a stipulated period.

Aladelusi explained that following the withdrawal of Isreal Ayeni, the members resolved to substitute him with Edema, a tested politician and administrator, to fly the party’s flag.

Also speaking, Ayeni said that he withdrew his interest in the governorship race in the interest of the party.

In his acceptance speech, Edema thanked the  God for giving him the opportunity to present himself  to serve the people of the state.

He also appreciated the National Chairman, members of the National Working Committee, State Working Committee of NNPP and delegates for their support and confidence reposed in him.

“I offer myself as your candidate and standard bearer for the Ondo State gubernatorial election coming up on the 16th November 2024.

“I accept the challenge, I accept the mandate freely and willingly granted to me today, and I promise not to ever look back,” he said.

Edema further said that the manifesto of the party aligned with his vision as encapsulated in the ‘Igbega Ondo’ manifesto.

The governorship candidate, who was one of the 16 aspirants that jostled for the April 20 governorship primary of the APC, stated that his vision was set on the “consolidation and sustainability lane for total development of the state.”

Edema, who decried the conduct and process of the APC primary poll in April, said that internal democracy was well rooted in the NNPP.

According to him, the purported primary election conducted by the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on April 20 lacked internal democracy.

“This act of impunity should not be supported and be allowed to continue in our polity. It is trite that you cannot give what you do not have.

“And as the saying goes “a house built with spittle will certainly collapse under the early morning dew”.

“The demise of APC is just around the corner like its sister, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from which it took over the reign of power.

“It is on this note that I hereby formally announce my resignation from APC forthwith.

“I hereby pitch my tent with the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), a truly progressive and people-oriented party,” Edema said.

He subsequently nominated Dr Rotimi Adeyemi as his running mate in the Nov. 16 governorship election in the state.

  • Nigeria already bleeding before Tinubu’s emergence – NNPP

Nigeria already bleeding before Tinubu’s emergence – NNPP

The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) on Thursday said that Nigeria was already bleeding before the emergence of President Bola Tinubu.

Appraising Tinubu’s administration in the last one year, Founder of the party, Dr Boniface Aniebonam said the President was aware of the crisis in the country before coming into power.

Aniebonam told NAN that it was in recognition of the challenges the nation had that made the President to come up with the Renewed Hope Agenda to tackle it headlong.

“The belief of members of the NNPP stand to reason that a great leader is he or she who can take a wrong decision than taking none in a matter of state affairs of urgent importance.”

“The President is human and may have taken some wrong decisions like removing the cankerworm of corruption infested oil subsidy without first planning on cushioning the effects but it will be good in the long run.

“Therefore, this is the time for all Nigerians to be more determined to work hard and make sacrifices for the good of our country.”

According to Aniebonam, Tinubu and members of his cabinet have successfully taken Nigeria away from the intensive care unit to the general ward.

“This simply means that there is hope for Nigeria greatness shortly.

“Going forward, it is the belief of members of new NNPP that the greatness of Nigeria is in the hands of Nigerians .

“To achieve this objective, we must enhance productivity in the area of education, rule of law and order, science and technology, agriculture, industrialisation and avoidable acts of corruption and public disorder.”

“Therefore, this is not the time to apportion blames in the name of opposition to whatever government does. Opposition must be responsible and constructive in all criticisms, with respect and patriotism .

“It is, therefore, a time to advise and encourage the President and leaderships of the Legislative houses and Judiciary to continue to ensure that every of their actions are for the good of the general welfare of Nigerians.

“It is our firm belief that political patronage should be done in a manner that it does not affect the mantra of renewed hope for Nigeria.”

He urged the President to ensure that the most qualified persons shall be deployed to critical and strategic positions to drive the process of renewed hope for a greater Nigeria of our dreams.

Aniebonam, however, said that the President should ensure that Nigeria’s Federal Highways were put in very good conditions to reduce accidents, kidnappings and related criminalities

“The national carriers both on the sea and air should come on stream to stop waste on freight rates. This shall help to stop the pressure of dollar in our local currency.

“Nigeria must be engaged in aggressive local production to stem the tide of forex menace eating deep into our foreign reserve and purchasing power.

“Specifically, the labour force of Nigeria needs a living wage to meet up with the economic realities of Nigeria, thus ensuring industrial peace and harmony.

“Expansion of technical education opportunities shall be the road map for intervention to unemployment in Nigeria. Therefore, access to start off funds must be made easy for graduates to engage in local production.

“Every institution of learning must be smart education based at all levels to enable Nigerians to be globally competitive and empowering our youths into the information technology world,” he added.

  • Let rule of law prevail in Kano emirate crisis – NNPP

Let rule of law prevail in Kano emirate crisis – NNPP

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has called for caution in handling the Emirate Stool  tussle in Kano State.

NNPP Founder, Dr Boniface Aniebonam said in Lagos on Thursday that the Law should be strictly followed in resolving the controversy.

Aniebonam, who is also the founder of the Government Approved Freight Forwarders, advised that parties concerned must apply caution so as not to plunge Kano into avoidable conflagration.

He disclosed that the conflagration could  impede the nascent democratic process Nigeria had been nurturing overtime.

“Kano state is the only state run by the NNPP in Nigeria. As a peace loving political party that believes so much in God and Law, it is our sincere appeal that everyone concerned in this matter must thread softly.

“We must consider the overall interest of the people of Kano above self interest.”

“We are marvelled at the degeneracy of law and order in that state under the leadership of NNPP and the contending forces for control of the Emirate stool.

“What is crucial in the titanic struggle for control of the Kano Royalty  is that both warring royal groups should ensure the rule of law is strictly adhered to,” he said.

Aniebonam said that judgment/ judgments of Courts of competent jurisdictions should be fully and respectfully complied with.

“This advice has become paramount and necessary because if Kano boils, the whole nation may be negatively affected one way or the other.

“Let wise counsel prevail between two brothers in the interest of public peace and emirate sanctity.”

He lauded President Bola Tinubu and Elders of Kano Emirate for their show of concern and efforts over the peace of the society and Kano state in particular.

  • Emirship Tussle: FG trying to cause chaos in order to declare state of emergency in Kano – NNPP

Emirship Tussle: FG trying to cause chaos in order to declare state of emergency in Kano – NNPP

The Kano state ruling party, the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has issued out strong warning to the FG against declaring a State of Emergency in the State following the current Emirship tussle.

The NNPP through the party chairman said via a statement that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is using security agencies to subvert the will of the people in the state.

The statement reads: “The on-going situation should not be an excuse to declare a state of emergency which would then translate to achieving what Ganduje and the APC could not achieve through their regrettable actions up to the Supreme Court as the people of Kano are steadfast to resist attempts to subvert their mandate freely given to Governor Abba Yusuf of NNPP,”

USING SECURITY AGENTS TO INTIMIDATE THE PEOPLE OF KANO STATE OVER EMIRSHIP STOOL POSES GRAVE DANGER TO NIGERIA’S DEMOCRACY

The on -going siege on Kano State, especially, the Palace of the Emir of Kano by soldiers and other security agents is nothing but a show of shame and a threat to the democracy which some Nigerians shed their blood to enthrone.
Nigerians were embarrassed since early Saturday morning to see the deployment of soldiers and other security agents around the vicinity of the Emir of Kano’s Palace, in what seems like plan to overturn the Constitutionally backed restructuring and restoration of the lost glory of the Kano State Emirate Council. This is a process which went through the whole gamut of law amendment processes.

The drafters of the 1999 Constitution, as amended, in their wisdom have given the different tiers of Government in the country (Federal, State, and Local Government) different spheres of responsibilities and the administration of Local Governments and Chieftaincy matters exclusively to the States.

So, since when did it become the Constitutional responsibility of the Federal Government to be installing traditional rulers.

The Kano State Legislature vested with the powers to repeal, amend or enact laws having duly followed established principles repealed the Kano Emirate Law (2019), which removed the 14th Emir of Kano, HRM Mohammed Sanusi 11, and restored him to office.

How did this warrant the deployment of soldiers and other security agents to Kano State to reverse a law duly passed by the State legislature.

The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) therefore faulted alleged forceful return of deposed Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, to Kano through the might of the Federal Government. This was a threat to peace and harmony in the state.

The party’s position followed claims by Kano Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, that the former Emir was brought to Kano on Friday surrounded by soldiers through the office of a highly placed government official from Abuja.

NNPP is aware of the grand plan to snatch Kano State by all means, following the earlier failed attempt to grab it through the Courts. We are therefore advising these desperate politicians to desist from testing the resolve of Kano electorates who freely and overwhelmingly gave their mandate to Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf as the Governor of Kano State.

We are using this medium to appeal to Elders in the country, leaders of thought, and Nigerians in general as well as the International Community to prevail on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to call to Order members of his party who are bent on throwing Kano State and indeed the entire North into turmoil just to realise their selfish ambition. Since those affected have approached the Court of law for redress, they should allow the process to complete its cycle instead of resorting to Arm – Twisting the Governor of Kano State.

The unleashing of security agencies controlled by the APC led Federal Government to coerce and the stultify the government of Kano State from performing its constitutionally donated duties is a gross violation of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and a fundamental breach of the hallowed principles of Separation of Powers as enunciated in the 1999 Construction of Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) and must be vehemently resisted by all lovers of our democracy.

The on-going scenario in Kano where soldiers are deployed to upturn a properly enacted law by the State legislature and State Police Commissioner will bluntly refuse an instruction by a Sitting Governor as we are witnessing in Kano portend grave danger to our democracy.

The refusal of the State Commissioner of Police to carry out the order of Governor Abba Yusuf to arrest the deposed Emir for attempting to cause violence and public disorder through his conduct was disrespecting to the Governor as the Chief Security Officer in the State.

The position of the Commissioner of Police Kano State on the ex-parte order is amusing! How often have our good friends obeyed court orders? Now they want to “obey” an order (if it was indeed granted), that was granted after the act was completed. We all know that “you cannot restrain a completed act” since the government action had taken place long before the controversial court’s pronouncement.

It should be noted that when Muhammadu Sanusi 11 was deposed, he did not resort to any act that could lead to violence and destabilize the State, instead he abided by the law. Nigerians expected the same from the now deposed emir.

The on-going situation should not be an excuse to declare a state of emergency which would then translate to achieving what Ganduje and the APC could not achieve through their regrettable actions up to the Supreme Court as the people of Kano are steadfast to resist attempts to subvert their mandate freely given to Governor Abba Yusuf of NNPP.
