  • It is not your business to tell people what film to watch — Femi Branch calls out cinemas over ‘favouritism’

It is not your business to tell people what film to watch — Femi Branch calls out cinemas over ‘favouritism’

Nollywood actor, Femi Branch has taken to social media to call out some cinema owners, accusing them of promoting certain movies over others.

The 54-year-old thespian via a recent video posted on his verified Instagram on Tuesday alleged that some cinema staff put on merchandise to advertise specific films to visitors “instead of being neutral”, rather than remaining neutral.

He further disclosed how these movie centers would remove media cards of certain movies from their counters and promote others instead.

He expressed concern over the impartiality, noting how such actions could hurt producers struggling to recoup their investments due to unfair screen time allocation.

The 54-year-old said these actions by cinema owners are causing a division among filmmakers in the industry, adding that “it also not helping the economy”.

He said, “I do not see anybody talking about it in the industry. I know people know what is going on. I am talking about cinemas promoting one movie above the other. It is so bad that some cinema staff wear T-shirts for one film. They remove the media cards of some movies from their counters and put others out there. In some cinemas, they tell people, ‘This is the best film to watch’. In some cinemas, they change somebody else’s time for another person. As you know, you are supposed to screen your movie at a particular time, but you go there, and they are now telling you to watch another better film.

“It is not the business of the cinema to tell what film to watch or not. We have been having a lot of problems at the cinemas recently. Especially, this December. We have heard of different fights at different cinemas. This industry is constantly under one bondage or the other.

“We are divided already. Cinemas want to add to it. Many producers are groaning now that the money they invested is not returning. Some of us who are working on projects to go out into cinemas are afraid because we do not know what’s going on.

“When they give you screen time and see that another film has become popular, they will then give your screen time to other people. Some will even time that is not good. You are not helping our industry, you are not helping the economy, and you are not assisting actors, too. Cinemas are supposed to be neutral.”

Veteran actor, Kanayo reveals reason why some ladies in their 30s are unmarried

Veteran Nollywood actor, Kanayo 0 Kanayo has shared his thoughts on why some women in their 30s struggle to find suitable partners.

The 62-year-old thespian in a recent interview with Soni Irabor Live, attributed the phenomenon to the choices some women make in their younger years.

Kanayo said when some ladies are in their teens or early twenties, they often prefer to date older, wealthy men, neglecting the advances of their peers.

He argued that these women become “unattractive” to suitors when they reach their 30s and may not have a suitable partner.

“Some girl will be in the university at 18, 19, 20, she starts dating a very rich guy, sometimes, very old too. Then what you see along the line is that because the guy is very rich and probably married, she refuses the advances of other younger people because the guy has either gotten her a car or a house,” he said.

“So to her, she is operating on a very high level. From 22, she goes on to 24 and maybe even if she quarrels with this guy, she gets the next guy. And before you know it, she turns 25, 26 unmarried because she refuses the advances of younger prospective husbands.

“She gets to 29 and 30, and by that time, she has left the university and men are no longer finding her that attractive.

“So she gets into 31, husband is not coming. And what do you have? At 23, she is a flex. At 28, she becomes a prayer point. After 33, she’s declared a state of emergency.

“Because husbands will not come at that level of 33 years. Some of them get to 35 unmarried. And they still think that they are having fun. They are not having fun. They are now in a state of emergency praying that God brings anyone.”
