    Plus-sized actress Monalisa Stephen buried in Lagos

    Nigerian actress and filmmaker, Monalisa Stephen, popularly known as Gabacci, has been buried in Lagos amid tears.

    TheNewsGuru reports that the 34-year-old film star died last week after complications from low blood sugar and internal bleeding, though her family has not officially confirmed the exact cause of death.

    Videos from her funeral on Thursday shows loved ones gathered at a cemetery in the Yaba area of Lagos, paying their final respects.

    The emotional videos capture friends and family mourning at her graveside.

    Her epitaph honours her as “a gentle soul, a radiant light, who loved deeply, lived kindly, and left a mark that time can’t erase”. It concludes with the touching tribute: “Forever in our hearts”.

    In a 2022, Monalisa revealed during her interview, she had been battling diabetes since the age of 10. She also disclosed she was living with tinnitus and spoke candidly about facing brutal online trolling and betrayals from people she trusted.

    Actress Monalisa Stephen, will be buried on Thursday, May 22, at Atan Cemetery in Lagos, according to her family.

    TheNewsGuru reports that Monalisa Stephen died on Wednesday, May 13th after battling low blood sugar and internal bleeding.

    In a statement posted on her official Instagram account, the family confirmed that the burial will be a private interment ceremony scheduled for noon.

    They requested continued prayers and respect for her memory during this difficult time.

    “We lay our beloved Monalisa Ayobami Stephen to rest this Thursday, May 22nd, 2025. In honour of her wishes and the family’s, this will be a private ceremony. We ask for continued prayers and respect for her memory during this time. Forever in our hearts,” the statement read.

    Monalisa, aged 34, was known for her roles in films such as ‘Breaded Life’ (2021) and ‘Mami Wata’ (2023), and for her passionate advocacy for plus-size women, mental health awareness, and self-love.

    Nigerian actress Mercy Aigbe has shared her candid thoughts on single motherhood, revealing that she doesn’t wish the experience on any woman.

    In a recent interview on the Real Talk with Kike show, Mercy Aigbe spoke about the difficulties she faced as a single mother, describing it as a draining experience that affects her financially, emotionally, morally, and mentally.

    According to Mercy Aigbe, playing the role of two people – mother and father – is not easy, and she often prays for her children to have lasting relationships. She expressed her desire for her kids to avoid the challenges she faced as a single mother, saying, “I don’t wish it on anybody, it’s draining.”

    Mercy Aigbe also reflected on her parenting style, admitting that she was harsh on her kids as they were growing up. She attributed this to her fear of failure, having already experienced failure in her personal life as a single mother. She didn’t want her kids to make mistakes or fail, not realizing that it’s a natural part of their growth and learning process.

    The actress revealed that her fear of people laughing at her kids and saying they turned out badly because their mother was a single mum also contributed to her tough parenting style. She said, “I didn’t want people to laugh at me and say a single mum raised them, they can’t do anything good.”

    Mercy Aigbe separated from Lanre Gentry, her ex-husband in 2017, over alleged domestic violence and infidelity.

    However, in 2022, the actress unveiled popular marketer and businessman, Kazeem Adeoti as her husband.

    They have been together ever since then.

    Nigerian actress Jumoke George has been reunited with her daughter, Adeola, after a harrowing four-year separation.

    TheNewsGuru recalls that Jumoke had recently cried out about the daughter’s disappearance during an interview with her colleague, Biola Adebayo, on the ‘Talk to B’ YouTube podcast.

    According to the actress, her daughter was reportedly trafficked to Mali and had been out of contact with her. However, Adeola was found in Mali after being declared missing for four years.

    In a post via X on Monday, May 19, 2025, the Chairman of the Nigerians In Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, disclosed that the 41-year-old daughter of the Yoruba thespian is back home from Mali, where she was trafficked to.

    The emotional reunion was captured on video by Nollywood actress Biola Bayo, who shared the heartwarming moment when Jumoke George saw her daughter for the first time in years.

    She questioned her daughter about her experiences. Adeola revealed that she was trafficked to Mali and was sold to another person upon her arrival. She was also informed that she would be required to pay N1.5 million to her buyers.

    Despite the emotional challenges, the reunion brought joy to fans, who were relieved to see Jumoke George and her daughter reunited.

    Mercy Johnson, a popular Nollywood actress has refuted reports alleging that she is currently down with cancer.

    This is coming after an old video of the actress resurfaced on social media amid her drastic weight loss controversy.

    In the clip, the mother of four, in an emotional interview with veteran Nollywood actress Joke Silva, talked about her health struggles and how she underwent major surgery to remove her Thyroid due to a cancer scare.

    The actress was heard saying, “I had like a cancer skin in quote, and I had my Thyroid removed, and it was like a journey for us. We kept saying that we had to understand this was the new us.

    “Let’s go get the surgery done. We got there, and they said I was going to be on medication for the rest of my life, and it was a reality that we had to sit down with.

    “They told me I couldn’t miss my medication, telling me all of the side effects. I am reconciling with the truth at the point where we realize this is where we are.”

    However, several reports linkened the actress’ significant weight loss to her health challenges.

    In reponse to the reports, the mother of four via her instagram on Tuesday disclosed that she is hale and hearty and do not have cancer.

    She further thanked her friends and well wishers who reached out to her after the viral reports.

    In her words: “Hey guys, first of all, thank you so much for all of you who have been calling and sending prayers and messages.

    “But, I do not have cancer. I notice that a clip from my TV show, Mercy Menu, has been flying around and I think it was cut.

    “They cut the clip. I said I had a cancer scarce, means I had a swelling on my neck, if you can see the line there and My doctor felt it was something serious. I had problems with my thyroid. I am perfectly okay. 

    “Thank you for sending all those messages, but I am perfectly fine and healthy.”

    Angela Okorie, a Nigerian movie actress, has come out to allege that her former partner is attempting to return to her life despite demeaning her reputation to the public.

    The Nigerian actress via her social media page on Sunday accused her ex-lover of telling lies about her after they broke up and vowed never to take him back.

    She also claimed he sent her the sum of N1.5 million in an attempt to win her back, a move she said is an exercise in futility.

    She went on to blast him for posting a photo of them together in a bid to get her back.

    Taking to her Instagram page, she wrote, “As you are aware, I broke up with you months ago. After I found out that you are a pathological liar, a compulsive liar, and a complete narcissist, also full of deception, you are going about speaking ill about me with some fake blogs.”

    The thespian made the appeal while speaking in a recent episode of Lights, Camara – It’s My Turn, where she admonished her colleagues to follow her example by not letting marriage hinder their growth.

    The mother of two stressed the importance of having honest conversations with potential spouses about career support before marriage.

    She said, “He met you an actor, he married you an actor, there was no issue of you are going to leave this job because I am insecure or because we need to raise our children. No discussion or whatever.

    “Then you got married thinking that now you are going to fly, and then the man comes and tells you, ‘No, you’re going to sit.’”

    “See, the signs are always there. Don’t ignore it. Watch him, watch her. You need to have a discussion with the person. If need be, you need to sign an undertaking that you would not make me leave my career. Because did he leave his job?” she asked.

    The actress further nudged women to stay true to themselves, stressing the need for a partner who does not support their ambition is unnecessary.

    “Marriage is important but nobody put a gun to my head or to your head to do it. There are so many people in this world. If this didn’t work, another may work. You will meet a soulmate, someone who will be supportive. Just be true to yourself. Don’t go for the dazzles, be an antique babe like me,” she added.

    The Chief Executive Officer of Best of Nollywood (BON) Seun Oloketuyi, via his Instagram on Wednesday announced the sad news, disclosing that the controversial actress died yesterday, May 13th after battling low blood sugar and internal bleeding.

    He added that the deceased actress’ sister confirmed her passing. Sharing the photo, he wrote: “Brand influencer Monalisa Ayobami Stephen is dead,she died yesterday in Lagos after losing the fight against Low sugar and internal bleeding, Her immediate younger sister confirmed the death of this hardworking and beautiful soul.”

    I can no longer bear it – Veteran actress, Jumoke George cries out after going homeless

    Jumoke George, a veteran Nollywood actress has taken to social media to cry out to Nigerians for help, revealing she has been homeless for close to six years.

    In the video posted on social media by popular Yoruba actress, Biodun Okeowo, popularly known as Omoborty on Tuesday, George who was visibly distressed and in tears, made an emotional appeal to the public.

    The veteran recounted her struggles, including living in a church and being unable to afford medical treatment.

    Jumoke disclosed that she currently has no place to call home and relies heavily on support from church members for daily survival.

    She said, “Please mothers pray for me, mothers in the world please help me with your prayers. I have never ruined anyone. I am tired, I can no longer bear it. I don’t have a home, I don’t have anything and my child is missing.

    “I don’t have good health. I am exhausted. I have tried as a Christian. My first born Adeola has been missing for the past four years. I have been sick since January 2.

    “I have done several tests, what is remaining is brain and heart test and it is N400,000, I don’t know where to find it. I don’t sleep, I am always in pain. I don’t have a house, I’ve been living in the church for the past 5 to 6 years. My church mommy is the one who feeds me sometimes.”

    Appealing for support, Omoborty captioned the video, “Please dear colleagues, friends and fans, kindly let’s support. Whatever we can, it’s not easy anywhere but our widows mite collectively will go a long way. Thank you @biolabayo1.

    Nollywood actress Lizzy Gold has taken to social media to call out  her father over his entitlement mentality following his ingratitude after she sent him a monetary gift for Easter.

    The thespian in a now-deleted Instagram video posted on Sunday, recounted the ‘huge money’ she sent her father in the early hours of Easter Monday, expecting a heartfelt appreciation in return.

    However, she was disappointed by his response to her monetary gift, despite sending 10x higher of what she normally sends to him.

    Normally, I always send my father money. I have his account number. So what I do (is that) at night I send him money so that when he wakes up in the morning, he’ll see the amount I’ve sent to him,” Lizzy said.

    “I love surprises. I always surprise my father and trust me, whenever he wakes up in the morning and sees whatever amount I’ve given to him, he’ll pray for me… Trust me, I enjoy the prayers, as it gingers me to want to do more.”

    “On Easter day, my father sent me a message: ‘Baby how far na. Do Easter for you papa na’. He sent me the message in the morning. I pretended like I did not see it.

    “At 2 am, I dropped a huge amount of money in his account. You know that kind of a feeling of giving your dad big money and you’re expecting to wake up to see some kind of prayers that will bubble you.

    “After sending him the money around 2 am, I woke up only to check my phone and see ‘thanks’. No prayers. Nothing.”

    “‘I sent you money. This is 10 times the amount I usually sent. And all you could say is thanks. No prayers’,” she said.

    She added that her father responded, “I prayed for you in my heart.”

    Unimpressed, Lizzy said she told him: “Daddy, I don’t pluck money from trees. I work tirelessly for my money. I enjoy the prayers. It gingers me to want to do more.”
