Nollywood actress, Hilda Dokubo reacts to rumors of her death

Veteran Nollywood actress cum Labour Party (LP) chieftain Hilda Dokubo, has refuted rumours of her death making the rounds online amid the ongoing crisis in Rivers State.

TheNewsGuru reports that the actress’s purported death rumours started on Facebook, as it was alleged that people started carrying the thespian’s pictures around while singing funeral songs.

During an Instagram Live session on Friday, the movie star said she is healthy and will continue to speak the truth about politics and governance.

Hilda Dokubo stated that money is the least of her cares, stressing that everyone, including Fubara, knows she is not bribable.

She also maintained that she would keep speaking and advocating for good governance.

She said, “Everybody, this is me, healthy and strong. I’m not dead. I’m not dying now. I’m not afraid. Do you know how many times blogs have written that I died? Every second, every minute, they’re killing one actor or the other. So, it’s not a big deal.

“But a lot of people have been worried. I also worry for my friends. People had even gone to visit my mum who is almost 80 years old.

“If you know anything about me, I am fearless. Whatever I want to do, I will do. And I will say exactly how I want to say it. I was properly raised by very good parents. Money is the least of my cares. Everybody, including (Sim) Fubara (suspended Rivers State governor), knows that I am not ‘bribeable.’ If I were, I wouldn’t be where I am. I wouldn’t be on the side of truth.

“I have no business organising a rally or whatever you called it to push a man. If you had any sense in your chicken head, you would have known that I love to dance. Every time I attend an event in my community, I dance. If you can’t find me dancing, you can only find me climbing up a stage to make a speech.

“I would never wish him dead. I am not a proponent of politics with bitterness.

“I am not a coward and can never be one. No matter what they do, I will not change my position. I will try my best to ignore ignoramuses. But I want you to take this as a fact: I, Hilda, will never, ever wish death on anyone. Not even at my lowest.”

How I cope with loss of my only child – Eucharia Anunobi

Veteran Nollywood actress, Eucharia Anunobi has revealed that her faith in Jesus Christ is behind the source of comfort after losing her only child.

It would be recalled Raymond passed away in August 2017 at the age of 15 due to complications from sickle cell disease.

Speaking, 59-year-old during a recent Interview with WithChude podcast, emphasised that being a born-again Christian has opened her eyes to the “vanity of life” and the temporal nature of worldly things.

The thespian stated that her christian faith has helped her understand that the death of a loved one is not the end as she believes she will see her son again.

She expressed her gratitude for the memories she shared with her son and the peace that God has given her.

“That is one of the things that being born again, being a true Christian, bequeaths you with. As you grow in the word, when you read the words of God in the Holy Bible continuously, not just reading it but meditatively reading it, practicing it,” she said.

“Obeying the instructions therein as they are being said to you and each time you ask the Holy Spirit to teach you to know greater things, you will get to know greater things, and the wisdom of God gets you to know the vanity of life.

“Those things you see everywhere, that people are clamoring for are only temporal, there is no need killing yourself. So you come to understand that if you lose a loved one, yes, you love them, but because you have grown in the word of God that tells you that yes, the body is gone but the spirit is not gone.

“The spirit and soul has gone to the one that gave it and you would still have connection with that spirit someday where it came from. When you grow in the word of God, it helps you and brings to you more accurately and powerfully the words of God that says ‘my peace I give to you’.

“So when you have bereavement or things that bring undue sorrow, you do not sorrow because you know that they were just given to you for a short period of time and that someday you also will leave this atmosphere. That is what the wisdom of God teaches you.

“The comfort I have not to mourn unnecessarily or overtly over the loss of my only child as a single parent is that I know he is not gone. Yes, I know he is gone physically. I miss him, but I know the beautiful treasures of memories I have in my heart and I know because the word of God says I will see him again.”

Eucharia married Charles Ekwu, the father of Raymond, in 2000. They, however divorced after six years of marriage.

The movie star further narrated how her ex-husband left her stranded during critical moments further complicating their efforts to conceive, ultimately leading to the collapse of their marriage.

Jayesimi noted that her former husband moved in with a pregnant woman just two weeks after their separation, leaving her depressed and turning to alcohol for solace.

She said, “I got married on October 22, 1988. I had been practicing theatre, and the person I married knew about it at the time and was not upset. However, his job required him to be available for two weeks and then unavailable for the next two weeks.

“In our marriage, we did not have a child, although I entered the marriage pregnant. I lost the pregnancy weeks into the wedding. Since then, we have done a lot of tests. At one point, I was told they would perform a procedure where they would open me up, and if my husband had intercourse with me, I would become pregnant. We went ahead with the procedure, but my husband did not show up until three months later.

“When he returned, I became angry. He asked why I was angry and said I should have moved out if I was tired of the marriage. By then, we were already five years into the marriage. There were rumors that my life was in danger, so I had to leave.

“Two weeks after I left the marriage, he brought in another woman who was pregnant. The situation left me so depressed that I started drinking alcohol at the time.”

Jayesimi said she had given up on marriage until she met a man, whom she described as a father figure.

She said although they attempted IVF twice, both procedures were unsuccessful. She also shared her experience with an ectopic pregnancy at 40, which required medical intervention.

Jayesimi said she considered adoption but faced opposition from her mother.

“I had initially decided that I would not get married again until I met an Alhaji who was like a father to me. I wished I had met him before my failed marriage. We tried IVF twice, but it did not work,” she said.

“When I was about 40, I got pregnant but did not know it at the time. I used to feel pain in my abdomen and went to the hospital for tests and scans. I was told I was pregnant, but it was an ectopic pregnancy. After the procedure, I have not been able to get pregnant since.

“I left the marriage with the Alhaji when his first wife started having issues with him. I considered adoption, but my mother said she would kill any child I adopted. I left Alhaji about 15 years ago.

“Since then, I have not had a child. I am not someone who broods over issues, and I would never consider suicide. I know God’s time will come for me.

Jayesimi said she remains hopeful and resilient, expressing gratitude for her career and the children she has raised.

“When I think about the things I have done—the children I have raised, hoping they would take care of me, but they did not—I am grateful that God blessed me with this job. So, I do not dwell on these things, and I will not,” she added.

The only thing I want now is to have a child I can take everywhere, one that people will associate with my name. If I had been away from my parents for long, I would have adopted a child.”
