280 Nollywood movies produced in first quarter of 2023 – NFVCB

Alhaji Adedayo Thomas, Executive Director/CEO, National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB), says the board has received and censored 280 movies produced by the Nigerian film industry in the first quarter of the year.

He made this known in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja.

The NFVCB boss said the figure was provided by the Department of Film Censorship and Classification of the board in its first quarter report for the year, capturing all films submitted to the board from across the country.

The report is for onward submission to the relevant Federal Government agency as an input for the compilation of the nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for the first quarter.

The report shows a decrease in the number of movies produced from 340 in the fourth quarter 0f 2022 to 280 in the first quarter of 2023, which represented about 18 per cent downward slope.

According to the statement,106 of the films came in from Lagos censorship centre of the board, representing the chunk of the movies produced during the period under review, and followed by Abuja with 99 movies.

As indicated in the report, Onitsha is next with 32 films, Abeokuta raked in 3 films, Kano 15 and Benin 1 only.

The analysis by censorship location further shows that Jos recorded 14 films, Port Harcourt 8, while Ibadan and Kaduna recorded 1 film each.

“There is no doubt that our film industry is a key contributor to national economy as the films being produced are clear reflection of the direct and indirect jobs the sector is creating.

“NFVCB as a Federal Government agency, is committed to providing enabling environment for filmmakers; we therefore urge them to cooperate with us by ensuring that they submit their films for classification,” he said.

NFVCB is a Federal Government agency that regulates the films and video industry in Nigeria.

The board is empowered by law to classify all films and videos, whether imported or produced locally.

It is also the duty of the board to register all films and videos outlet across the country and to keep a register of such outlets among other functions.

Veteran Nollywood actor, Yemi Solade has said that to live and survive in Nigeria, one must belong to “the cult”.

The filmmaker recently stated this via his verified Instagram page.

He shared a poster that reads, “Nigeria. To live and survive in it, one must belong to the cult. – YemiSolade.”

He captioned it, “It is real”, using the hashtags “cult”, “cultism”, “cultic”, “survival”, and “depressed”.

His post stired reactions with some fans expressing worries he may be depressed.

Nollywood stars pray for ‘tired’ actor, Ibrahim Chatta

Movie stars, as well as fans, are showering prayers on Ibrahim Chatta after the actor shared a cryptic post crying for help.

Chatta, in an Instagram post, sought divine intervention over an undisclosed matter, revealing he was worn out.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports that the 52-year-old actor earnestly prayed to God to come through for him, admitting he’s been trying but was now tired.

“I am TRYING but I am TIRED. Dear God, please send HELP,” he prayed.

Nollywood actress, Ariyo Oluwakemisola Apesin, popularly known as Kemity, has shared videos from the funeral.

As a result of this, she traveled to Dubai, UAE for chemotherapy which lasted about 6 months.After her medical treatment in Dubai, she came back to Nigeria cancer-free. On Friday, the 25th of March, 2023, the actress complained of memory loss and headache.

She was rushed to the hospital, but, unfortunately, Gbemi was pronounced dead.

The tragic news was shared by the late actor’s colleagues, Itele and Zainab Balogun who mourned her on their Instagram pages.

Many others had also take to their respective pages to paid her goodnight.

Gbemi shockingly died on Friday, March 24th 2023.

Her career consisted of appearances in multiple Yoruba movies, with the most prominent being “Imelda” (2022).

Gbemi, as she was popularly known, was born in 1990 and contracted ovarian cancer in her early thirties.

That eventually led to her sad death in March 2023.

According to reports, the actress on Friday complained of memory loss and headache.

She was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead.

The tragic news was shared by the late actress’ colleague, Itele, who mourned her passing on his Instagram page.

He wrote, “Allahu Akbar, RIP Gbemi. O ma se o. Vanity upon vanity ?#inalillahiwainalillahirojiun”

Other colleagues jumped on social media to react to the shocking news.

Odunlade Adekola shared a picture of a candle on his Instagram page and wrote “R.I.P Gbemi.”

Kunle Afod wrote, “May she rest in the bosom of the Lord.”

Reacting to the news, Nkechi Blessing wrote, “Toh this one weak me.”

Peter Obi will be arrested soon – Kanayo O Kanayo

Nollywood veteran actor, Kanayo O Kanayo has expressed concerns that the Labour Party presidential candidate in the just concluded elections in the country Peter Obi will be arrested.

The actor raised concerns over the safety of the Labour Party, (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

According to Kanayo O Kanayo Nigerians should watch out because Obi would soon be arrested.

He alleged that some people are conspiring against the LP flag bearer, adding that he feels like something fishy is about to happen.

The actor cum lawyer made this claims on his instagram page on Monday.

His post reads : “Peter Gregory Obi will soon be arrested, Watch Out. The conspiracy is brewing, you want to bet?”

The All Progressives Congress, APC, Presidential Campaign Council, had called for Obi’s arrest for allegedly inciting violence.

Recall that Tinubu’s spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, already accused Obi of making inflammatory statements following his loss at the presidential election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Bola Tinubu of the All Progressive Congress (APC) as the winner of the presidential election held on February 25 in the country.

“That Wooden Bridge Cost Me 800K” -Desmond Elliot reveals

Nigerian filmmaker turned politician, Desmond Elliot, has cleared the air on the construction of a wooden bridge known as the ‘pako bridge’ for residents in his constituency.

When asked about the popular wooden bridge with his photo attached, the actor clarified during an interview on TVC’s Your View show.

Remember that the lawmaker was dragged online in 2020 for poor bridge construction and toilet commissioning in the Surulere community.

Desmond, on the other hand, said he went to the area to console a mother who had lost her 13-year-old daughter in a canal.

According to him, while on their way to Shitta to retrieve the girl’s body, the bridge that crossed the canal was very fragile, and the residents begged him to help them rebuild it.

The thespian stated that he donated N800,000 to the community for the bridge and that they eventually reached out to him and insisted on putting his picture on the bridge to show their gratitude.

Desmond stated that the bridge is no longer in good condition and that he has brought it to the attention of the state government to be repaired.
