I have played the devil in another film, ‘Made in Heaven.’ I missed the chance to play God recently, so but I want to play God, I want to play God. I played I think I played the president. I want to play God. Yeah. I just want to play God, I want to play God’s character. It’s funny, but since I watched ‘Oh my God by this old actor and then when I saw Amitabh Bachchan, the Indian actor in (God Tussi Great Ho), now that I have some grays, so by the time I’m probably 60 something and the greys are little bit greyer, like snow white, I would probably get a role to play God or I write one myself,” he told Pulse.

RMD also stated his reason for not appearing in just any Nollywood flick. He added that it is not about the number of films, but the quality of films that you do.

“In the prolific period of Nollywood as it were, I didn’t jump on every bandwagon or on every film that came my way. I’ve always tried to be very selective about the kind of films I did. And in a lot in a lot of ways I feel very blessed that you know, my, my little body of work can kind of compare with any other person’s body of work. For me, it is not about the number of films you do, but the quality of the films that you do. I didn’t see a lot of films that I did at that time,”

Coker told News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Saturday that with the understanding of the concept of developmental journalism, the media should use such to promote the country’s image for tourism to strive.

He said that reporting that a strange sickness had ravaged the nation as headline news sometimes may be detrimental to the country and the effect was more harmful than good.

Coker also called on the movie makers to use their medium to sell the nations rich cultural heritage rather than portraying the negative side of the country.

“It is not the dramatisation of witches and wicked mother in laws that we should sell in our movies.

“It is not also about putting out a headline that lassa fever hits Nigeria that the media should report because such reportage damages the image of our country.

“What image of the country are we selling, what are we also promoting by all these; we are actually working against ourselves by portraying these to the world,” he said.

According to him, such reportage through the media and movies tells tourists that the country is not in a good condition for tourism.

Coker who stated that the developed countries such as America, Britain Italy and France showcased their heritage stressed that such made those countries attractive for visit.

He decried the absence of Nigerian image makers, in the promotion of the society’s image by way of wearing branded clothes, others.

“Tell me when last you saw a super star wearing our branded clothes, promoting our image; they rather promote the brand of other countries.

” Use your soft power to promote the image of our country, when you are walking help someone stand and use Nigeria film to promote our sports industry as well as support our women in sports, ” he urged.

Coker said that there should be more synergy from all stakeholders, such as entertainment, hospitality, media and tourism practitioners towards building the country’s image.

He said that all these put together would help strengthen Nigerian tourism as well as make it thrive.

The NTDC boss said that it was imperative for people to understand that tourism was a business that most wealthy countries depend on thereby canvassed investing in it.

“We have been trying but need to do more; we need a structural shift, a legal framework and a platform to achieve our goal.

“We need to get people to understand that tourism business is what some wealthy countries depend on and until we invest in tourism and reap the fruits.

“Until we learn that we are sowing seed in this investment and it will not develop in one night, we must water it, fertilise it and we will not abandon it and must invest overtime before we reap it.

“If our creative industry do not come together to promote our brand, tourism will not thrive and I want to see our image makers wear Kanu pillars and Enugu Rangers T- shirts.

“I want to see our celebrities wear tour Nigeria T-shirts without being paid for doing it,” he said.

Coker said that cross industry support would help in ensuring that tourism became a revenue generating avenue in the country.

He said that there was need to aggregate and create a product to buy for one price as done in Dubai, Jerusalem; South Africa, others.

He, therefore, enjoined stakeholders such as entertainment, hospitality and tourism industries to come together to create a single fare price product value for money and digitally marketed products “easy to sell, buy and easy to consume.”

Coker also called on creative industries to synergise in order to promote the nation’s brand adding that the coming together of these and the promotion of the contents would make tourism an asset to the nation.

  • Stardom has robbed me of true friendship- Inem Peter

Stardom has robbed me of true friendship- Inem Peter

Sexy and in-your-face Akwa Ibom State-born Nollywood actress, Inem Peter is one of the most sought after role interpreters in Nollywood at the moment.

The rear endowed actress who started her journey in Nollywood with a cameo appearance in Wale Adenuga’s Papa Ajasco, has since featured in over 50 movies.

In this interview with TheNewsGuru, she opens up on her passion for acting, worst location experience, amongst other issues.

How did you get into Nollywood?

I got into Nollywood by chance, it wasn’t pre-planned. I accompanied a friend to a movie location to get to see how things were done and then take pictures with celebrities. One thing led to another, my looks created an opportunity for me. The director of that movie gave me an opportunity. That was how my acting journey began. As a matter of fact, I also featured in other movies directed by the said director.

What are the challenges of being an actress?

One of the challenges is that people expect you to be perfect. People look up to you. They think you have everything at your beck and call. They expect more from you. It’s hard.

What has been your worst location experience?

One of my worst location experiences was when I played the role of a medical Doctor. The pressure was much on me to deliver. There was a scene I played with a lot of medical terms. The pressure was much. At a point everyone got tired, including me.

Have you ever been a victim of sex for roles?

Yes sure. It’s a normal thing.

Do you think celebrities should put their relationships in the public glare?

You should only put your relationship in the public glare, if you need public opinions. It’s a matter of choice. If it makes you happy, so be it. Don’t blame anyone the day putting it in the public glare costs you.

What do you think about the injection of sex scenes in movies?

As an actor I will say sex scenes should be in movies only when it’s necessary. From the business point of view we know that producers use these scenes as a medium to sell their movies .They believe the sex scenes will make the movies sell. You know the sex scenes are not real.

Some actresses believe acting does not pay the bills, is that same with you?

Yes it’s same. It doesn’t pay bills. Even an A- list actor will not beat his chest to say ‘only acting pay my bills’

How did you deal with producers that wanted you to compromise in order to get movie roles?

I apply wisdom in everything that has to do with decision making. I let them know that it’s not worth it in a diplomatic way

What has being in the limelight robbed you of?

Being in the limelight has robbed me of many things. It has robbed me of sincere friendship and relationship. Most times, it is difficult for me to know who is a true friend. At times, I don’t know If such individuals love me for being me or they simply love me because I am in the limelight.

Some people are of the opinion that you intentionally flaunt your sex appeal?

This is not true. I don’t even flaunt a large portion of my sex appeal. If I want to attract people sexually, I will flaunt fifty to seventy percent of my curves. Trust, me they cannot handle it

What is your definition of a sexy woman?

A sexy woman is a damsel who attracts everyone with her sex appeal and beauty.

What new projects are you working on?

I am working on a movie titled “Boiling Point”. I have been on this one for a year now, but it’s 98% ready.

  • I lost a good relationship because of the negativity surrounding Nollywood- Monique Samuel

I lost a good relationship because of the negativity surrounding Nollywood- Monique Samuel

Nollywood actress, Monique Samuel doesn’t have to do much to attract attention, her provocative stature, sense of style and talent does it for her.

The rising role interpreter who started acting in 2013 has become one of the most sought after damsels in Nollywood.

In this chat with TheNewsGuru, she opens up on her acting journey, being satisfied with Nollywood, among other issues.

Can you tell us about your voyage into acting?

I got into acting in 2013/2014. Acting has always been my passion , but because I was working and also running my business, I didn’t get into the industry on time .So when I quit my job , I decided to pursue a career in acting.

Your name, Monique Samuel has a foreign ring to it, what part of the country are you from?

Monique is my other name and a stage name derived from MONICA . I am from Edo-state, Benin-city to be precise.

What is the life of an actress like, I mean your daily routine and how you generally get your work done?

When I have a job I resume location a day or two and I work till I am done from that job. Sometimes I stay in the hotel and if it’s not so stressful, I go from home. My daily routine is simply focused on home and work.

Are you satisfied with how far you have come in Nollywood?

I am not 100 percent satisfied because I still have a lot to give and more work to be done. I am not where I want to be, but with time, I will get there. But I am grateful for every job that comes and doing what I love.

What is responsible for you being scandal free?

I just try to stay away from anything controversial and anything that will tarnish my image .I believe a good name is earned. So I tread carefully

Actresses come expensive to maintain as both wife and girlfriend, how expensive are you to maintain?

Being expensive is an individual thing, if you can afford an expensive lifestyle then go for it. If you can’t, then don’t beat yourself up over it. I live a lifestyle I can afford.

When I googled your name, I saw stories about you focused on your alleged bum surgery. How does that make you feel?

People’s opinion about me does not bother me. Everyone is entitled to his or her opinion .No matter how you try to defend yourself or convince people, they will believe whatever they choose to believe. It sometimes hurts when they focus their attention more on my body instead of my work. But its okay, they will be fine.

What is the greatest price you have ever paid for being an actress?

The fact that I lost a very good relationship because of how people perceive the industry and the negativity surrounding it. But its fine, if it was meant to be, I guess it would have worked.

What makes a woman sexy and would you describe yourself as sexy or just beautiful?

The level of sex appeal you put out there is what makes you sexy, but to be beautiful comes with a full package, inside and out, mentally and physically. So I consider myself beautiful because I have more to give aside my physical appearance.

There is a cliché that “no beautiful woman can stay with one man”, how has your experience been with men and how would you describe Nigerian men in romantic relationships?

I don’t know where that is coming from but as a woman if you find a man who is nice and has good qualities why will you look elsewhere? For me, I don’t double date. I am a ‘one woman one man kind of girl’ .Some Nigerian men are romantic while some still struggle with the term romance. People show romance in different ways, we all can’t be same.

Nollywood: Nigeria, France sign agreement on movie distribution

The National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) and the Alliance Francaise have signed an agreement to showcase and distribute the two countries movies through the “French-Nigerian Film Distribution Conference.”

The agreement was signed during a courtesy visit by Mr Jerome Pasquier, Ambassador of France to Nigeria, to the Headquarters of the NFVCB on Tuesday in Abuja.

Mr Adedayo Thomas, Executive Director of the board and Mr Arnand Durnon, Director of the Institue Francaise signed the agreement on behalf of the two organisations.

Thomas, in his remarks, said that the collaboration was to present a platform where investors, producers, distributors and other stakeholders in the motion picture industries of both countries could meet for mutually beneficial deals.

He noted that the collaborative venture will, among other incentives, encourage and promote the distribution of Nollywood movies in France.

He explained that both parties have conceived ‘French-Nigerian Cinema Days’, to screen and showcase the two countries movies, as part of the distribution conference scheduled to hold later in the year.

“Our Nigerian distributors would be more than happy to collaborate with big time French distributors such as Pathe, Studiocan and Bacfilms as planned in the coming collaboration conference.

“The French distributors take delight in releasing movies from many different nationalities, whether big or small, as it is their belief that the French moviegoers love movies from around the world.

“France prides itself as a country of moviegoers with over 5,000 screens, while in Nigeria, we are proud to say that we have achieved 200 screens, from 39 in the last two years.

“Its film industry is acclaimed to be living ‘La vie en rose’ (life in roses), that its Nigerian counterpart would love to attain,” he said.

The Executive Director, however, decried the high rate of piracy as a major bane facing the evolving Nigerian moving industry, especially with the emergence of digital distribution platforms.

He, therefore, solicited for technical support from France to make the sector strive with piracy effectively nipped.

“Let me not pretend that all is well with the industry as we have serious piracy issue in Nigeria, though piracy is not directly within the regulatory purview of the NFVCB.”

“Secondly, with the pervasive nature of ICT, online distribution/exhibition of movies has created regulatory nightmare for us at the NFVCB.

“France, no doubt, has experience in handling these issues and we therefore solicit technical support from you in tackling these issues,” he said.

In his remarks, Pasquier, the French Envoy, said he was delighted at the partnership, adding that it was a common ground for both countries to grow their film industries and also strengthen bilateral relations.

“The film industries in France and Nigeria are contributing a lot to their economies, and this agreement will further present opportunities for both countries.

“This will bring better relationships, not just between the two countries government, but between their citizens as well.

“Private investors of both countries will sure benefit from this collaboration, in terms of investment in distributions and marketing of films,” he said.

NAN reports that the NFVCB is a Federal Government body that regulates the films and video industry in Nigeria.

The board is empowered by law to classify all films and videos, whether imported or produced locally.

It is also the duty of the Board to register all films and videos outlet across the country, as well as keep a register of such registered outlets, among other functions.
