  • Some Nollywood actors are gay- Jude Orhorha

Jude Orhorha is one actor who has paid his dues in Nollywood. He became popular with his role as a deaf and dumb in the now rested soap opera, Checkmate and also Fuji House of Commotion.

The actor who was recently quizzed by newsmen spoke about the state of the industry and why some actors seem to be getting more prominence than others. He also revealed that he has been approached by gays.

According to him:” I know what some actors and actresses did to gain the fame that they are enjoying now. Some of the men in the industry are gay while the women sleep around and that is why I am not bothered about where I am today. When it is your time, it is your time. Some entertainers are opportunist while others are born lucky. Omotola was born lucky from day one; her first character was a lead role. Some people marry for money and not love. That is why I am not really bothered because some of the guys are gigolos. They do not make their money from the movie industry but from the gigolo business. I cannot do such because I have a name to protect. In the 80’s when I started this business, none of them was anywhere to be found. I have seen it all and I refuse to join them.

“Gays have approached me but I declined their offers because my anus is an exit point and not an entrance. The same thing with sugar mummies but I refused to accept their proposal because I cannot sleep with married women. I believe in karma. If it does not happen to you, it would happen to your generation” the actor said.

  • Most filmmakers in Nollywood are supposed to be spare parts dealers – Young lady laments

A video showing a young Nigerian lady condemning Nollywood movies and filmmakers has been generating the myriad of comments on social media. In the video, the unidentified lady said most filmmakers in Nollywood are supposed to be spare parts dealers and not fit for the movie industry.

According to her:” Nigerian movie producers should stop ranting, stop making noise, work on your storyline. We make too much noise, we should go and work on our audio, and we should work on our lightning. Most of Nollywood filmmakers are not professionals. The light men are quacks they don’t know what they are doing. Why is it that people prefer to watch Mexican films, Zee world and Telemundo other than Nollywood films?

“You people should ask yourselves this question. We have lost it. Most of these so called producers need to be spare parts dealers, instead of wasting their time in Nollywood” she said.

Read some of the reactions from Nigerians below:

“Isn’t this the same goat that was canvassing for Biafra. As for the movie industry, she got it backwards. It’s producers who should stop giving roles to girls for sex. The girls are already runs girls, they have little or no acting talent so sex is the only thing they can offer. Most of the upcoming actresses go into the industry for runs, not to become an established actress. How many of them depend on movie pay for their lifestyle? The talented new actresses don’t need favours from any producer. The other ones know themselves” Folake said

A certain Obi wrote:”Na true she talk na. Those Nollywood auditions are just messed up. You see naked women everywhere. I just wonder what been nakedness has to do with movie auditions. Nollywood lacks good stories”.

  • A lot of Nollywood actors believe in charms and juju- Ernest Asuzu

When you think of Nollywood actor, Ernest Asuzu what comes to mind is a flamboyant youngster who lives life on the fast lane. The role interpreter had some life threatening experiences that changed his life. Ernest is now born again and has made some salient confessions about Nollywood

According to him, most Nollywood practitioners depend heavily on charms for a solution to their challenges.

Asuzu, who suffered the stroke a few years ago, said he intends to become a Pastor and preach the gospel to his colleagues in order to ensure Nollywood as an industry gets closer to God.

“I will either be a pastor or prophet. But I am begging them (Nollywood actors and actress) to leave evil alone. Evil does not pay anybody. They inflicted me with stroke but I did not feel I had a stroke for one day.

“So, if God chooses me as his vessel, I will say ‘Here am I, send me’. I want Nollywood to get closer to God because the time we are now is evil.

“I’m not angry but I don’t like the way they treat human beings. What I don’t like about the practitioners is their heavy dependence and trust in charms.

“They should leave charms alone and turn to God, the ultimate for the solution to all their challenges.”

Speaking about the change is bringing back to Nollywood, he said:”What I’m bringing back to Nollywood is concrete change. This is not a political slogan. What I want is for everyone in Nollywood to be God-fearing. I want the industry to know God because I’m a testimony. A lot of practitioners believe in charms, juju and evil, but when you know God, you will know it all and will not have room for doubt and unbelief. I want to bring God back to Nollywood, that’s what I want to accomplish this year”

  • Nollywood is the biggest problem of theater in Nigeria- Yerima

Nollywood is the biggest problem of theater in Nigeria- Yerima

No doubts , theater has lost its voice since the emergence of Nollywood. Lovers of live theater prefer to visit cinemas or watch the films in the comfort of their homes. This has inadvertently contributed to the dearth of theater in Nigeria

Theater practitioner and Professor of Theatre Arts at the Redeemers University, Professor Ahmed Yerima has lamented on how the emergence of home videos killed the live theater tradition in Nigeria.

According to him, Nollywood is the first and major culprit as people find it easy to watch movies at home. The thespian also said technology has made it easier for people to access the films they want.

Hear him:” Nollywood is the first and biggest problem for theatre and that’s because people find it rather convenient to sit at home and see these movies rather than go out to live-theaters even though variety is the spice of life, and technology has also made it a lot easier for people to have access to a film any time they want to. For instance, at work, anyone can sit behind the system and download whatever movie it is they want to and not even having to go to the cinema to do so”.

  • FG approves extra N420 million grant for Nollywood

The Federal Government says it has released N420.2 million to the Nigeria film industry popularly called Nollywood to improve and support aspiring practitioners.

According to a statement issued by the Deputy Director of Information, Federal Ministry of Finance, Patricia Deworitshe, on Friday in Abuja, the money, which is the second payment to the sector, will help 105 film distributors.

The government had earlier introduced the “Project Act Nollywood’’, with three primary components aimed at developing the movie making value chain.

The components are the Film Production Fund (FPF), Capacity Building Fund (CBF) and Innovative Distribution Fund (IDF).

The FPF and CBF have been fully implemented, while the IDF, which is the third component of the project, is on-going.

The IDF covers online, National, Regional and community categories of Nollywood Film distribution and exhibition.

The objectives of IDF are to improve the distribution network of Nigerian Audio-Visual contents, cut down on piracy, create jobs, and protect Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) within the Nigerian Entertainment Industry.

TheNewsGuru.com reports that N1.8 billion was approved for disbursement to 106 beneficiaries in this component; and N1.335 billion was disbursed earlier in the year as first tranche to 105 beneficiaries.

Mrs. Deworitshe said before the release of the second tranche, the finance ministry had carried out a successful monitoring and evaluation of the first tranche disbursement.

Fifteen community cinemas and viewing centres have been established through the grant and this has improved the distribution network of movies in Nigeria.

The programme has supported 18 firms in strengthening online distribution platforms, this has helped curb illegal downloads and piracy.

Two hundred and fifty six permanent jobs and 544 temporary jobs have been created through the financial support provided to 105 beneficiaries by the programme,’’ she said.

Mrs. Deworitshe said the programme had also aided the extension of the Nollywood Industry to sub-Sahara Africa through the funding of National distributors to expand their distribution capacity and network.

She said through the programme, distributors had expanded their capacity to lip-synching their content in French for onward distribution to the ECOWAS sub-region.

The half caste actress recently poured out her mind about her pains in Nollywood. According to her, cabals are killing the Industry and this is limiting the growth of the movie industry.

“There are a lot of cabals in Nollywood. They say If you don’t use some individuals in your film, they cannot accept your movie. These are the reasons the industry isn’t growing the way it should.

“In every other area we are doing well. We have very good writers now, we have dynamic directors and producers.
