    BREAKING: Buhari nominates all newly retired Service Chiefs as Non-Career Ambassadors

    President Muhammadu Buhari has forwarded the names of the immediate past Service Chiefs to the Senate as non-career Ambassadors-Designate.

    TheNewsGuru.com, TNG reports that President Buhari sacked and replaced the former service chiefs on Tuesday, January 26, 2021.

    In a letter to Senator Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan, President of the Senate, the President said: “In accordance with section 171 (1), (2) (c) & sub-section (4) of 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended, I have the honour to forward for confirmation by the Senate, the under-listed five (5) names of nominees as Non-Career Ambassadors-Designate.”

    The nominees are: Gen Abayomi G. Olonisakin (Rtd ), Lt Gen Tukur Y. Buratai (Rtd), Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (Rtd), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar (Rtd), and Air Vice Marshal Mohammed S. Usman (Rtd).

    The President urged the Senate to give expeditious consideration to the nominations.

    Senate confirms Seriki, Adesina, Djebah, 38 others as ambassadors-designate

    Senate President Ahmad Lawan on Wednesday called for adequate funding of Nigerian embassies abroad.

    Lawan who spoke after the Senate confirmed 40 non-career and one career ambassadors-designate recently nominated by President Muhammadu Buhari, however advised the Federal Government to consider either closure or merger of some of its foreign missions if there is no resources to properly fund them.

    He argued that there is no need to send an envoy to a foreign land to represent the country without making adequate provision for the ambassador’s upkeep or the sustainable administration of such an embassy.

    Meanwhile, the Senate has confirmed Debo Adeshina representing Oyo State, Oma Djebah (Delta), Ademola Seriki (Lagos), Umar Sulieman (Adamawa), Kevin Peter (Adamawa), John Usanga (Akwa Ibom), Elejah Onyeagba (Anambra), Abubakar Ibrahim (Bauchi), Philip Ikurusi (Bayelsa), Tarzoor Terhemen (Benue), Paul Adikwu (Benue), Al-Bishir Al-Hussain (Borno), Bwala Bukar (Borno) and Monique Ekpong (Cross River) for appointment as non-career ambassadors.

    The Senate also confirmed the nomination of Ominyi Eze representing Ebonyi State, Yamah Musa (Edo), C. O Ugwu (Enugu), Hajara Salim (Gombe), Obiezu Chinyerem (Imo), Ali Magashi (Jigawa), M. A Markarfi (Kaduna),
    Hamisu Takalmawa (Kano), Jazuli Gadalanci (Kano), Sadiya Nuhu (Kano), Yahaya Lawal (Katsina), Dare Sunday Awoniyi (Kogi), Ibrahim Laaro (Kwara), Abioye Bello (Kwara) and
    Zara Umar (Kwara) for appointment as non-career ambassadors.

    Other non-career ambassadorial nominees confirmed by the upper chambers include Henry Omaku (Nasarawa), Sarafa Isola (Ogun), Nimi Akinkube (Ondo), Adejaba Bello (Osun), Adeshina Alege (Oyo), Folakemi Akinyele (Oyo), Shehu Yibaikwal (Plateau), Maureen Tamuno (Rivers), Faruk Yabo (Sokoto), Adamu Hassan (Taraba) and Abubakar Moriki (Zamfara state).

    Mr Suleiman Sani was also confirmed as a Career ambassador representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

    Buhari renews appointment of 12 non-career ambassadors [Full list]

    President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the renewal of the appointments of 12 non-career ambassadors.

    The president, however, assured Nigerians of fairness in representation and inclusiveness in all matters of governance.

    The assurance from the President became necessary following recent complaints after the announcement of 41 non-career ambassadors that some states were not captured.

    However, a statement signed by Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to the President, said approval for continuation in office of the ambassadors was done after performance evaluation.

    The statement added that President Buhari will still decide if others will remain in their current postings.

    However, the ambassadors whose appointments were renewed are:

    1. Mrs Uzoma E. Emenike (Abia)

    2. Yusuf M. Tuggar (Bauchi)

    3. Muhammad B. Madugu (Bauchi)

    4. Amb. Baba Ahmad Jidda (Borno)

    5. Uyigue O. Oghogho (Edo)

    6. Dr. Eniola Ajayi (Ekiti)

    7. Deborah S. Iliya (Kaduna)

    8. Mohammed D. Rimi (Katsina)

    9. Prof. Tijjani Muhammad-Bande (Kebbi)

    10. Dr Modupe E. Irele (Lagos)

    11. Adeyinka Asekun (Ogun)

    12. Sen. Goni Modu Zanna Bura (Yobe)

    The President, however, congratulated the ambassadors on the renewal.

    He urged them to keep upholding and promoting the values of stewardship to Nigeria, while bridging good relations with other nations.
