    NSCDC sacks officer for looting COVID-19 relief items in Abuja

    The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has sacked its officer, Corps Assistant Illiya Ibrahim, of the Gwagwalada Division Abuja for partaking in the looting of a warehouse in the Federal Capital Territory.

    Ekundayo Gbenga, Media Assistant to the Commandant General, NSCDC, Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday evening.

    Bags of grains, including rice and cartons of noodles and spaghetti, were looted from the facility.

    However, Ibrahim was seen helping himself with a carton and three bags of rice.

    In a statement on Tuesday, Ekunola Gbenga, NSCDC spokesman, said Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu, commandant-general, approved the recommendation of a disciplinary committee for the dismissal of the officer.

    Gbenga said the officer was charged under the public service rule which is related to “unbecoming conduct of officers”.

    “This disciplinary measure was taken after a series of investigations and deliberations by the junior disciplinary committee and recommendations were made to the management,” he said.

    “The CG appreciates officers and men of the corps including members of the public for providing useful information that has continued to assist the corps in identifying unfit individuals within the ranks for appropriate action.

    “He tasked the personnel to remain committed, resolute and firm in the discharge of their duties.”

    ONDO DECIDES: NSCDC deploys 60 sniffer dogs, 7,079 personnel for governorship poll

    The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps(NSCDC) said it has deployed no fewer than 7,079 personnel and 60 sniffer dogs to provide security for the Saturday governorship election in Ondo state.

    Deputy Commander General(DCG) in charge of Operation Mr Hillary Madu said this in Akure Madu who said that the personnel were drawn from six South West states, Kogi and Kwara commands added that four Assistant Command General would also be on duty during the poll.

    According to him “beside complementing other security agencies in providing security for electorate and electoral officials during the poll, NSCDC would also deploy to critical national assets being part of his core mandate.

    He said that six of the sniffer dogs would be deployed to INEC headquarters to complement personnel from Special Force, Intelligence Department and SWAT unit that would be on duty.

    The NSCDC boss noted that “the men that would be on duty had been properly briefed on their roles during the poll and assured that people’s right would be respected without compromising security of lives and property.

    “We have come to monitor and provide security for the governorship election in Ondo State coming up on Saturday.

    “We promise Ondo State people that the exercise is going to be very peaceful election and I will advice people of Ondo state that nobody should die because someone want to becoming a governor.

    “We want to call on our royal fathers, religious leaders and our mothers to warn their wards that they don’t cause any havoc during this exercise. “The state belonging to youth but let us have a credible and peaceful election coming Saturday,”

    “When we go for election, we ensure that we have our eyes opened to ensure that we do not have money politics. That is, people bringing money or gifts to voting centres.

    “Our men will respect people of this state. Nobody should indulge in use of excessive force on the indigenes of this state and our armed men would not be deployed close to voting centre. Sixty sniffer dogs will also be deployed across the state.” Madu also said that the personnel would also monitoring the critical national asserts and infrastructure across the state.

    NSCDC officer, 2 others burnt as 2 motorcycles collide in Badagry

    An official of Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corp (NSCDC) and two others were on Tuesday burnt beyond recognition following the crash of two motorcycles along Badagry-Seme expressway.
    A witness told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Badagry that the collision, which occurred around 8a.m. at Iyaafin area, resulted in an explosion.
    “The two men on the motorcycle laden with petrol were on top speed and collided with the NSCDC officer on official bike.
    “Fire however broke out and inflicted various degrees of burns on them.
    “They were later rescued and taken to Badagry General Hospital where they were later referred to LASUTH for further treatment,” he said.
    An official told NAN at Badagry General Hospital that the victims had been assigned an emergency ambulance to take them to LASUTH Gbagada for further treatment.

    Popular Nigerian artiste Daniel Oyebanjo, a.k.a D’banj commended the Federal Government for its Agro-Rangers initiative undertaken by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

    D’banj gave the commendation in a statement issued in Abuja on Saturday by his Corporate Manager, Mr Damien Okoroafor, following his decoration on Friday by the NSCDC Commandant-General, Abdullahi Mohammadu, as an Agro-Ranger.

    The Agro-Rangers programme inaugurated in mid-2016 is expected to forestall attacks on farms, boost farmers’ confidence and to enhance FG’s food security plan.

    D’banj said he would dedicate his life and personal effort to put the country and the NSCDC on the global map and ensure that the insecurity challenges suffered by Nigerian farmers would be a thing of the past.

    “I find this initiative undertaken by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps as a wonderful opportunity to serve my country.

    “Organisations or agencies such as the NSCDC need the support of the general public to do so effectively since they were established to protect Nigerian citizens.

    “Being myself a farmer of over 15 years, I very well understand the challenges suffered by farmers as incessant and re-occurring attacks stifle production and productivity,” D’banj said.

    NSCDC boss Mohammadu urged D’banj to always promote the initiative as government had concluded plans to employ young and agile people in the 36 states of the country and FCT as Agro-Rangers.

    “Nigeria has witnessed an escalation of deadly attacks in several years between farmers and herdsmen in Plateau, Benue, Kaduna, Nasarawa, Taraba and Niger States.

    “We expect that all hands should be on deck to make the initiative succeed and tackle head-on the insecurity crisis suffered by our farmers country wide.

    “It is expected that the initiative will also create jobs and further empower the youth to participate more actively in playing a role in the system,” Mohammadu said.

    NSCDC arrests 8 suspected kidnappers in Oyo

    The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Oyo State has arrested eight suspected kidnappers terrorising the people of Ado Awaye, Araromi, Okaka, Ilero and Otu in Itesiwsju Local Government Areas of the state.

    This was disclosed in a statement by the corps’ Public Relations Officer, Oluwole Olusegun, and made available to newsmen on Saturday in Ibadan.

    Olusegun quoted the Commandant of NSCDC in Oyo State, Iskilu Akinsanya, as saying that the suspects were apprehended by the Agro Rangers Squad of the command.

    Akinsanya said that the suspected kidnappers were arrested at about 9:15 pm on Thursday through information received from the Chief Jowuro of Oke-Ogun, Alhaji Baani Abubakar, that suspected kidnappers operating in the area were spotted in Bobajiroro Hotel, Oke Adeta, Iseyin.

    “The eight suspected kidnappers which consist of six males and two females were arrested at the Bobajiroro Hotel.

    ” During cross examination of the suspects, one of the trailed suspects to the scene of the arrest who was 25 years old, declared that the number used in tracking him belongs to his friend.

    “Further interrogation revealed that those numbers were stored on his phone with different codes such as 52,42,33, while the suspect later assisted the corps in apprehending the remaining seven suspects,” Akinsanya said.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that items recovered from the suspects included two red Boxer Motorcycles marked BDJ 580 UL and EGB 628 UF, six cell phones and N32,510 cash.

    The commandant said that the suspects would be handed over to the Anti-Kidnapping Squad of the police in the state for further investigation and prosecution.

    NSCDC arrests 387 suspects for various crimes in Edo

    The Edo Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) says it has arrested no fewer than 387 suspects for various crimes in the last five months.

    Mr Makinde Ayinla, State Commander of the Corps disclosed this in an interview in Benin on Wednesday.

    Ayinla explained that of the figure, 39 suspects were arrested for crimes such as alleged adulteration of petroleum products, vandalism, armed robbery, cultism, kidnapping, human trafficking and prostitution as well as illicit drug peddling.

    He said the other 348 suspects were arrested for violating government order and protocol on COVID-19 in the state.

    He also disclosed that within the period, five vehicles were recovered from hoodlums, while their victims were rescued unhurt.

    He told NAN that of the 23 registered Private Guard Companies (PGCs) in the state, 15 had renewed their operational licenses on expiration, while the licenses of five were yet to expire.

    He further disclosed that the peace and conflict management unit of the command had within the period resolved 31 cases out of the 38 cases brought before it, while six cases were still under investigation.

    The commandant said that the sum of N824,000 was recovered by the anti fraud unit of the command from suspected fraudsters.

    He also disclosed that the command has 26 cases pending in various courts across the state, explaining that the cases were tied to illegal dealing on petroleum products, vandalism and theft of armoured cables.

    He added that in line and fulfilment of its core mandate, personnel of the Corps ensured the protection of National Critical Assets, as well as forestalling herders and farmers clashes.

    Ayinla also said that within the period, the command carried out sensitisation in markets and other public places on the dangers of COVID-19.

    He added that the command also deployed personal to ensure safety and protection of lives during last Monday and Thursday APC and PDP primaries respectively.

    NSCDC arrests man for defiling three-month-old Nasarawa baby

    The Nasarawa State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has arrested a 27-year-old man, Ahmadu Yaro, for allegedly defiling a three-month-old baby in Adogi village, Lafia Local Government Area of the state.

     

    The Deputy State Commandant of the NSCDC, Mr Bisi Olugboyega, who paraded the suspect on behalf of the Commandant, Mr Mahmud Fari, said, “We have tracked and apprehended the 27-year-old suspected rapist, Ahmadu Yaro.

     

     

     

    “He is presently in custody for allegedly defiling a three-month-old baby in Adogi village, Lafia Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.”

     

    He noted that the suspect would be prosecuted when the command completed its investigation.

     

    Olugboyega stated that the suspect was arrested on June 22, 2020, around 3.28am in Adogi.

     

    He added that Yaro had confessed to the crime.

     

    The NSCDC deputy commandant said the suspect was detained two years ago by the community for a similar offence, adding that Yaro was left off the hook without the involvement of security agencies.

    “The suspect is believed to be a one-man gang claiming partial mental disorder, which is not yet confirmed or established,” he added.

    NSCDC distributes customised face masks, hand gloves in Delta

    The Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp (NSCDC) in Delta, Mr Chike Ikpeamonwu, has distributed over 1,000 customised face masks and hand gloves to the personnel of the command.

    Mr Eke Onyenkachi, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the NSCDC in the State, disclosed this in a statement on Friday in Asaba.

    Onyenkachi quoted the commandant, as saying that the officers deployed to strategic locations in the state to enforce the lockdown order needed face masks and hand gloves while on duty.

    He said the measure was necessary and in compliance with the Federal and Delta Governments orders on mandatory wearing of face masks in public places, as part of precautionary measures to combat the spread of COVID-19.

    The PRO said the commandant had urged the officers and men to ensure judicious use of the items, adding that they needed to protect themselves while protecting others.

    NSCDC penetrates Ogun riverine areas to enforce lockdown order

    The Ogun Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) said on Saturday that it had penetrated the riverine areas of the state, to ensure full compliance with the lockdown order to check the spread of Coronavirus.

    The Public Relations Officer of the Command, Dyke Ogbonnaya, said this in a statement he issued in Abeokuta.

     

    Ogbonnaya said that the NSCDC had maintained constant surveillance around the riverine areas which had always been considered as difficult terrain to access.

     

    He explained that the corps had to travel and access the areas through canoes.

     

    “All major river border areas are being strategically manned since the commencement of the lockdown on Friday by the corps to forestall possible attempts at crossing through such routes to other parts of the state.

     

    “No fewer than 45 personnel were deployed in the riverine routes including Akere in Ipokia Local Government area and Makun-Omi in Efire community of Ogun–Waterside Local Government area.

     

    “Meanwhile, our land borders across the state are also under close monitoring by a task force team comprising the NSCDC, the Nigerian Police Force (NPF), the Department of State Services (DSS) and in case of emergency situations, the Nigerian Army,” he said.

     

    The PRO added that the Commandant of the NSCDC in Ogun, Hammed Abidunrin, and the heads of other security agencies in the state had continued to move round to ensure compliance with the directive.

     

    He said that Abodunrin had directed the NSCDC personnel “to keep an eye on all critical assets of the Federal and Ogun Governments while they continued to enforce the directive.”

    JUST IN: Five JAMB staff, NSCDC operatives kidnapped in Kogi released

    The Kogi State Police Command has confirmed the release of all the five Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) staffs kidnapped along the Obajana-Kabba road, over a week ago.

    Also, all the five personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) that were kidnapped around Ajegwu, along the Ayingba road have secured their freedom.

    The police command, in a statment on Tuesday, stated that all the Kidnapped victims were hale and hearty and have reunited with their families.

    It however did not disclose if any ransom was paid to secure their freedom.

    Close family source of one of the released NSCDC operative confirmed their release.

    The freed JAMB workers were said to have been from the examination body’s head office in Abuja and were headed for Kogi West, ahead of the mock UTME which held last Tuesday while the NSCDC operatives were abducted on their way for a promotion examination in neighbouring Benue State.
