  • Four NSCDC officers abducted in Kogi

    At least four officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have been kidnapped.

    William Aya, a deputy superintendent of police, revealed that the officers were kidnapped at a spot in Alo-Offoke community on the Itobe-Ayingba road.

    The officials were said to be travelling to Makurdi for promotion examination when their vehicles were stopped by some gunmen.

    “Information gathered reveals that four civil defence personnel were among the kidnapped victims,” Aya said, indicating that those kidnapped may be more than four.

    He said three other persons that sustained injuries during the attack were currently receiving treatment at a hospital.

    Aya said the police responded immediately it received distress calls that some armed men were operating between Alo- Offoke and Ayingba.

    “The Divisional Police Officer in charge immediately mobilised his personnel to the scene where they met two abandoned vehicles, one Volkswagen Sharon bus with registration number Kogi KNA 220 LG and a Volkswagen Gulf car with registration number Lagos EZ 376 SMK,” he said.

    “Both vehicles were riddled with bullets and occupants suspected to have been abducted while 20 expended AK47 ammunition and civil defence kits were recovered from the scene.”

    Aya said the command had flagged off aerial surveillance patrol of Obajana axis and other black spots.

    He said the operation also involved ground troops consisting of police and military personnel who are now combing the bush to rescue victims.

    He said the new operation was being led by the state Commissioner of Police, Ayuba Ekpeji.

    Imo victory party tragedy: NSCDC bans display of firearms by personnel in public functions

    The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu has banned members of the Civil Defence armed squad from displaying firearms, especially in public places.

    This is in response to the death of Action Alliance Chieftain in Imo State, Mr. Ndubuisi Emenike through an accidental discharge by an operative of the NSCDC.

    Abdullahi said this when he paid a condolence visit to the former governor of Imo state and serving Senator Rochas Okorocha to commiserate with him on the demise of an illustrious son of the state. He maintained that the order was necessitated by the need to prevent future occurrences of such costly accidents.

    He profusely warned that any personnel caught flagrantly displaying or brandishing firearms in whatever circumstances or during any celebration risks dismissal.

    “And henceforth, it has become an offence for armed bearers to stay within the immediate perimeters of any occasion; they must keep a 50 meters distance away from events or party venues,” the CG said.

    He assured Senator Okorocha and the entire people of Imo state of decisive punitive action against the alleged shooter of the chieftain without any compromise.

    ”As the head of a disciplined and responsible organization, the condolence visit is necessary to commiserate and identify with the people of Imo state at this period of mourning”.

    Gana consequently warned all state commandants to put their house in order and ensure that their personnel exhibits the highest form of professional discipline wherever they find themselves.

    He stressed that on no account must he receive a report bothering on misuse of firearms from any state command because when that happens, such commandant should be ready to face the consequences as any breach of security and safety of the people would no longer be condoned from any command forthwith.

    He expressed regret over the incident and assures that the Corps is with the family in prayers and will be paying personal condolence visits to the immediate family of the deceased in Imo and Lagos state soon.

    Police arrest NSCDC orderly for killing Imo politician at victory party

    The Police in Imo has confirmed the arrest of Sydney Ogudoro, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) official who allegedly killed the Action Alliance (AA) chieftain, Chief Ndubuisi Emenike.

    Ogudoro allegedly shot Emenike at the residence of Princess Mariam Onuoha, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate on Sunday.

    The incident occurred during celebration of Onuoha’s victory at Saturday’s rerun election for Imo North federal constituency.

    Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Orlando Ikeokwu, confirmed the arrest to newsmen in Owerri on Monday.

    Ikeokwu, who spoke on behalf of the Commissioner of Police in the state, Fafowora Olaniyi, said that the killer corps was arrested after credible information confirmed that Ogudoro fired gunshot at Emenike on Sunday.

    He said that the NSCDC in Imo had been informed of the arrest and detention of Ogudoro, an officer with the Imo command of the Corps, adding that joint investigation by the police and NSCDC was ongoing.

    He added that the alleged culprit, an orderly attached to the candidate would be prosecuted if the Force found that to be necessary after investigation.

    He, however, appealed to youths of Ehime Mbano Local Governmet where the deceased hailed from, to remain calm and be law abiding as the police was on top of the situation.

    “The command hereby confirm the arrest and detention of Sydney Ogudoro, a two star officer of the NSCDC, who allegedly shot and killed the AA senatorial candidate for Imo north in the 2019 elections, Chief Ndubuisi Emenike.

    “We are currently carrying out a joint investigation alongside the NSCDC in some areas of operation and prosecution will follow if necessary.

    “We also appeal to the good people of Isiala Mbano to remain law abiding and trust the police to fully carry out its constitutional responsibility of bringing culprits to book and toeing the path of justice and fairness. We will leave no stone unturned,” he said

    Imo Senatorial candidate shot dead by aide during victory party

    An operative of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps on Sunday shot dead the 2019 senatorial candidate of the Action Alliance in Imo North Senatorial District, Ndubuisi Emenike.

    The police spokesperson in the state, Orlando Ikeokwu, confirmed that the incident had been reported to the police.

    According to an eyewitness, the incident took place around 5 pm during a victory party for the All Progressives Congress candidate, Miriam Onuoha.

    The APC candidate had been declared by Independent National Electoral Commission as the winner of the rerun election in Okigwe North Federal Constituency held on Saturday.

    However, the victory party hosted at the APC’s candidate house at Umunachi in the Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of the state was aborted after the NSCDC officer attached to the AA senatorial candidate mistakenly shot his boss.

    It was gathered that he was shooting consistently into the air and mistakenly shot Ndubuisi Emenike.

    The victim fell and lost consciousness and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, St Joseph’s Hospital, Umunachi, before he was later rushed to the Federal Medical Center, Owerri, in an ambulance.

    One of the sources said, ” Ndubuisi Emenike has been shot by one of his security aides. He was shot during APC victory party at Isiala Mbano LGA. He was shot at his lower abdomen by his aide, an NSCDC officer. This is very tragic and very unbelievable. We pray he makes it. The incident has shattered our victory party.”

  • NSCDC recovers N21m debts in Jigawa

    The Jigawa Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) said it had recovered about N21 million as debts from some residents of the state in the last quarter of 2019.

    The NSCDC Commandant in the state, Alhaji Garba Muhammad, made this known to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse on Friday.

    Muhammad said the amount was recovered following complaints received by the command from aggrieved creditors within the period under review.

    He explained that the command has amicably resolved the disagreements between the debtors and their creditors.

    The commandant added that the recovered funds were handed over to their owners after the resolution of the disagreements.

    According to him, the corps will continue to ensure that residents of the state live in peace and harmony.

  • Missing cash: 4 quizzed NSCDC back to post at Bayelsa govt. house

    Four personnel of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) arrested over alleged theft at Bayelsa Government House Yeagoa have returned to their duty posts.

    Mrs Christiana Abiakam-Omanu, Bayelsa Commandant of NSCDC told News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday, said the NSCDC personnel were questioned and freed by the Police.

    “You know whenever something happens, security personnel deployed are usually the first suspects and they were questioned and have since resumed work at their duty posts.

    “They are back to work as we speak while the investigation by the police continues.

    ”On our own at NSCDC we are conducting our independent investigations and there is no substantial issue to comment on at this time,” she said.

    The Bayelsa Police Command had confirmed reports of stealing of large sums of money at the Bayelsa Government House, Yenagoa amidst discrepancies about the amount.

    Superintendent of Police, Asinim Butswat, who spoke to a NAN, said that some arrests have been made while investigation was underway.

    According to Butswat, seven security men comprising three policemen and four Civil Defense personnel on guard duties when the money got missing were in custody and being interrogated.

    “On 5th December, 2019, at about 08:50 hours, the Command received a report of burglary and stealing in the office of the Deputy Chief of Staff, Government House, Yenagoa.

    “It was reported that the main entrance door to the office of the Deputy Chief of Staff was broken and the safe inside the office were destroyed.

    “The crime scene was visited by Policemen and it was further revealed that the sum of Three Million Five Hundred Thousand Naira was stolen.

    “Three Policemen, four personnel of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps and one maintenance staff on guard duty at the Governor’s office were arrested.

    “They are being interrogated at the State Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department, Yenagoa,” Butswat said

    Gunmen abduct NSCDC officer, wife, son in Abuja

    Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers abducted nine persons including, a 12- year -old child, another Nigeria Security and Civil Defense (NSCDC) officer with his wife and one of his children at Dafara community in Kuje area council of the FCT have been abducted.

    A resident of the community, John Mamsa, said the incident happened around 8:38 pm when the kidnappers invaded the community late Wednesday through the bush and abduct the NSCDC officer with his wife and one of his children.

    He said a member of the vigilante group at the community, which he identified as Williams, was shot dead by the kidnappers when some vigilante members attempted to prevent them.

    According to him, the gunmen opened fire on the door of the NSCDC officer’s apartment and whisked him away alongside his wife and one of his children.

    He said: “They shot and destroyed the key of the NSCDC officer house before they now have access into the house and took him away with his wife and one of their child.

    “It was the sound of the gunshot that attracted the attention of the vigilante members as they try to go after the gunmen, in which one of the kidnappers opened fire and killed one of the vigilante members.”

    Chairman of Pegi Community Development Association (PECDA) Mr. Taiwo Aderibigbe, confirmed the incident.

    He told newsmen that : “You can imagine after 78 hours another civil defense officer, his wife and one of his child were again abducted at Dafara”.

    ” Abuja is under siege, that is just the truth of matter as some people are playing politics with our lives, which is uncalled for”.

    Dafara community is just a one kilometer distance from neighbouring Pegi community where nine persons were kidnapped on Monday night.

  • Kidnapped Civil Defence operatives released, says commandant

    The Edo State Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has confirmed the release of two of its senior operatives abducted on Sept. 27.

    The Commandant, Mr Makinde Ayinla, confirmed the release in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Benin on Tuesday.

    Ayinla said the operatives were released early on Tuesday by their abductors at Ebelle community in the Igueben Local Government Area of Edo.

    He said, however, that no ransom was paid to secure the release of the operatives.

    The commandant thanked the Nigeria Police, the vigilante in Ebelle town and the families of the abducted workers.

    Ayinla also commended other security agencies for their support and collaboration in ensuring the release of the two men.

    The two officials were abducted at about 2:30 p.m. at the railway bridge between Ebelle and Ewosa communities on the Ebelle-Agbor highway on their way to Benin.

  • Kidnappers of two senior NSCDC officials demand N6m ransom

    Kidnappers of the Commandant of Irrua Division of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), in Edo State, Mr. Albert Eguavoen, have allegedly demanded N6 million ransom to free their victim.

    This is even as the abductors of the wife of the Managing Director of Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Mrs. Francisca Okhiria, have allegedly demanded for N20 million before she could regain her freedom.

    It was gathered that the Eguavoen’s abductors made the ransom demand on Monday when they opened negotiation with his family.

    But it could not be ascertained if the ransom demanded by the abductors was for Eguavoen alone.

    Recall that the Commandant was abducted last Friday afternoon, alongside Francis Okunwe who is attached at the Area Commander of the Edo North Area Command, around Ewossa before Ekpon in Esan Senatorial District of the State, while travelling to Benin City, the State capital.

    Sources at NSCDC said the officials were traveling through Igueben road, due to the bad state of the Benin-Auchi-Okenne highway.

    It was gathered that his abductors allowed him to speak with his family members, during which he reportedly urged them to raise the said ransom to enable him regain freedom.

    The Commandant was said to have also pleaded that the Redeemed Christian Church of God, where he is a senior usher at Eagles Wings parish of the church in Benin, should intensify prayer to ensure that he is not hurt.

    A family member who did not want to be named, said: “we fear for the safety of our brother because from the voice of the kidnappers we could deduce that they are herdsmen.

    “I urge the authorities of NSCDC to intensify efforts to ensure Eguavoen and his colleague’s​ safe return.”

    Meanwhile, the authorities of the NSCDC in the State, said they have dispatched operatives into the forests in search of the two abducted colleagues.

    Spokesman for the NSCDC in the State, Mr. Efosa Ogbebor, who described the incident as unfortunate, added that its men will comb the forest and ensure their colleagues are released unhurt.

    Meanwhile, the Edo State Commissioner of Police, Mr. DanMallam Mohammed, who confirmed the incident, added that a combined operation of security agencies in the state was being put in place to apprehend the abductors.

    In the other incident, Mrs. Okhiria who was whisked away by suspected gunmen in the Edo State capital of Benin, five days ago, is is yet to be released by her kidnappers.

    The Edo State Commissioner of Police, Mr. DanMallam Mohammed, however assured that the police were on top of the situation as they were hot on the trail of the kidnappers.

    Mohammed, who spoke in Benin on Monday, said that the police were not relenting in ensuring that Mrs. Okhiria was freed unhurt by her abductors.

    The Edo Police boss, however, said that he was not aware of ransom demand of N20 million by the kidnappers before letting go off their victims.

    Mohammed said: “We are on the case. The police in Edo is not taking kindly to this kidnap case. Investigations are still ongoing. We will get to the root of the case. We are not relenting and will release her, unhurt.”

  • BREAKING: Gunmen abduct two senior NSCDC officials in Edo

    Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted two officials of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

    The two officials who were on their way to Benin city, the state capital from Edo North Area Command were identified as Francis Okunwe the Area Commander of the Edo North Area Command and Chief Superintendent of Corps (CSC) Albert Egauvoen, the Divisional Officer of Irrua.

    Sources at NSCDC said the two officials took off through Igueben due to the bad state of the Benin-Auchi-Okenne Highway, and were attacked at Ewosaa before Ekpon near Ebele in Igueben local government area.

    The source said the attack happened at about 2 pm and the Toyota Sienna van they were travelling in has been recovered from where it was abandoned.

    According to the source: “They were on their way to Benin but because of the bad state of portions along the Auchi – Benin road, they decided to pass through Igueben to cut off the bad spots but unfortunately the incident happened around Ewossa before Ekpon.

    Edo Commissioner of Police, Danmallam Mohammed, confirmed the incident to and said a combined operation of security agencies in the state were being out in place to apprehend the abductors.
