BBNaija is devil incarnate misleading Nigerian youths – MURIC

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has condemned Big Brother Naija’s reality TV show saying it is a tool for misleading the Nigerian youths due to its content.

MURIC has supported calls by Chief Segun Runsewe for the National Assembly (NASS) to give the National Council for Arts and Culture (NCAC) powers to go after BBNaija for the purpose of stopping nudity.

This is contained in a statement by Group Director, MURIC, Prof. Ishaq Akintola on Sunday in Abuja

“The Director General of the National Council for Arts and Culture (NCAC), Segun Runsewe on Oct. 4 called on the National Assembly (NASS) to give his agency powers to go after BB Naija in order to stop nudity in the reality TV show.

“The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) supports Runsewe’s call and we see no reason why the NASS will hesitate to give him all necessary backing. Big Brother Naija’s reality TV show is the devil incarnate misleading Nigerian youth.

“MURIC has been consistent in its condemnation of BB Naija. We can recall two separate statements issued on the reality TV show. On July 12, 2019, we made a statement titled ‘Ban BB Naija,” Akintola said.

He added: “Again on Oct. 8, 2020, we issued another statement under the caption ‘MURIC Chides Ogun Governor Over BB Naija Gifts’.

“That was when the governor gave a bungalow and N5 million cash to the winner of the reality TV show. We saw the governor’s action as idolising immorality and demonising discipline. We described his action as ‘disappointing, disgusting, misplaced and myopic.

“We call on the NASS to listen to Runsewe. It is the voice of reason. BB Naija is forcibly dragging our youths to a world of nudity, debauchery, and shamelessness. BB Naija constitutes a potent threat to every home. It is open rape on our cultures, values, and norms. BB Naija is luciferous.

“The NASS will have its name indelibly carved in letters of gold if it hearkens to the plea made by Runsewe. His appeal has revealed the weakness in our legal system. It has revealed that there are no extant laws powerful enough to stop romance and sex on our television channels. The time to give the law the teeth to bite is now.”

  • Don preaches against nudity in Nigerian films

Prof. Abdulrasheed Adeoye of the Department of Performing Arts, University of Ilorin on Friday advised Artistic-Directors in the Nigerian film industry against promoting nudity in films.

Adeoye made the call in his paper presentation at the 186th inaugural lecture of the University of Ilorin entitled:”Poetics of Legislation and De-Legislation on play Directing”.

He said that in the post-colonial age, flaws remained a combatant or combination of illusion and the performing artists are not exempted.

According to him, this is so because nudism sells and indecent dressing through body exploitation brings money to some performing artists.

He stated that his studies on films showed that artistic directors who placed economic gain above other positive issues allowed the pressure from producers to override their beliefs.

He said that studies also showed there was dislike for actors and actresses who often act nude, half-nude or dress indecently.

“The culture of copying bad Western tendencies and behaviours should be discouraged,” he said.

The expert in performing art also pointed out that theatre could be used as a critical conveyor of culture because of its universality.

“Performing artists as philosophers of revolution and reality can use theatre to show societal ills such as armed militias, indiscriminate killing, Boko Haram insurgency, corruption, maladministration, unemployment and anti-democratic tendencies.

“The aim is to bring desired change. The performing artists are expected to use the current local, national and international issues for artistic creation, direction and production of performances,” he said.

Adeoye urged Performing and Theatre Arts Departments to include the multicultural society in the country to their art plays to foster unity and cohesion.

Nudity more prevalent in music industry- Emeka Enyiocha

Veteran actor, Emeka Enyiocha has revealed that nudity is more prevalent in the Nigerian music industry than in Nollywood.

Enyiocha speaking in a chat with PUNCH stated that the music videos released these days can be compared to soft porn.

“Nudity is prevalent in the music industry, not in Nollywood. There is practically no music video you would see today without someone being semi- nude in it. The musicians just do their thing, but I don’t know if there is a way they can cut (reduce) it. For Nollywood, the Censors’ Board is there to regulate what they do. Right now, our music videos can be compared to porn.”

Speaking on the growth of Nollywood, he said: “The changes are coming in gradually, and productions are getting better. People are trying to embrace the industry. In every industry, the help of the government and private sector is needed.”

She said black coloured cloths could be won with any other colour of accessories, unlike other coloured clothes.

” Black undies conceal your nudity when your outfit is transparent and prevents you from being embarrassed in public when your cloth slips off unknowingly or when there is a heavy wind.

” This happens when am doing photoshoot so I tell my clients to come with black undies when coming for photoshoot,” she said.

The fashion designer advised ladies to stop wearing strapped brassieres with off shoulder tops to appear responsible and decent.

She said everyone should be cautious in their dress sense and ensure that their undies were completely concealed under their clothes.

” Save yourself the embarrassment of allowing people see your singlets underneath your clothe, rather, wear V neck singlets in such situation.

” For busty ladies, you should avoid wearing round neck dresses or cloths with collars as such renders the breast unattractive regardless of the brassieres won.

” Ladies should stop wearing off shoulder clothes with strapped brassieres and always wear black undies under transparent cloths.

” Ensure healthy hygiene in managing your undies to guide against contacting diseases,” she said.

‘Being naked is part of what makes us human’-Paris Jackson

Michael Jackson’s daughter , Paris Jackson has revealed her opinion about the concept of nudity. The 19-year-old, who recently signed with IMG models, believes nudity is also a way she can convey her feminist ideas. She said that nudity is what makes us human

In her words:‘I’ll say it again for those questioning what I stand for and how I express myself. Nudity started as a movement for ‘going back to nature’, ‘expressing freedom’, ‘being healthier’ and was even called a philosophy.

‘Being naked is part of what makes us human. For me it helps me feel more connected to Mama Gaia. I’m usually naked when I garden.

‘It’s actually a beautiful thing and you don’t have to make it sexual the way many Hollywood stars (and the media) do.

‘Not only is your body a temple and should be worshipped as so, but also part of feminism is being able to express yourself in your own way, whether it’s being conservative and wearing lots of clothes or showing yourself.’

‘We don’t always agree with one another and that’s okay. But again, we are all human, and to appreciate the things that other people do that make us human helps us feel connected. How can that be a bad thing?’

Nudity in music videos is not wrong- Iyanya declares

Your Waist singer, Iyanya whose song Up to sumthing is rocking the airways is one singer who uses sex appeal to his advantage. The artiste who was signed to Don Jazzy’s Marvin in a recent chat said nudity in Nigerian music videos is not wrong. He made this known in an interview with Hip TV.

According to him, the issue of nudity in music videos is up to the music video director to decide. Hear him:”It depends on the director’s concept, you get what am saying. It also depends on the song. If it’s a song that has a beach house vibe or has a party vibe, What’s wrong with that? If you are shooting by the pool side there is nothing wrong with a girl swimming.

“The funny thing is that is what people want to see actually don’t think there is nothing wrong in it, because everybody is doing it. It depends on the director’s concept. I doubt If the artistes deliberately want bum showing or want a cleavage showing in a music video, I don’t think so” he said.
