He said that the meeting would provide an opportunity for Tinubu and his running mate, Kashim Shettima, to discuss their strategies with the party’s leadership ahead of the campaign.

2023: Adamu urges APC members to close ranks to ensure victory

Sen. Abdullahi Adamu, the All Progressives Congress (APC), National Chairman has urged party members to close ranks and work as a team to ensure victory in the forthcoming general elections.

Adamu made the call while speaking with newsmen after inaugurating an eight-member Abia Reconciliation Committee.

“We have to do some work and forget some of the prejudices and stand together.

”We don’t want anybody to come here after the elections and start crying and laying blame on us for our failures.

“I will not listen to that, this is the time to unite, this is the time to work for unity, if we do, God will be with us,” the APC national chairman said.

He said ahead of inaugurating the committee, comprehensive meetings were held between the party’s leaders in Abia.

Adamu said that they were involved in negotiations and its National Working Committee (NWC), especially during its primaries and after it.

Adamu expressed optimism that with the inauguration of the committee, there would be peace in APC Abia.

“We are not going to hold reconciliation meetings again. We will now leave it to the leaders of the party in Abia to play their politics in the state.

“Abuja is not about Abia, go to Abia and play politics there, do the necessary, lobby and reconciliation there because all politics is local.

“Abuja is not Abia locality, Abuja is the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), we converged here from various states. Let Abia go and work together,” he said.

Adamu however, added that the party would not be satisfied with just 25 per cent of votes cast at the general elections.

“All the national elections, House of Representatives, Senate, Governorship, likely the presidential election, we will not be satisfied with just the 25 per cent of votes cast.

“No halfway about it, if we are to win, we must try to win every state,” Adamu stressed.

The Chairman of the committee, Mr Chris Adighije, in his remarks, said the committee would reconcile all aggrieved APC members in Abia.

This, he said, was critical to enable the party build strength to face challenges from other political parties

The APC National Chairman urged the members to quickly come together to work in unity.

“We are on our way back to Abia to play the local politics, reconcile all our members and ensure that we go straight for the low-hanging fruits which would have lost if we don’t get together.

“And I know that by the grace of God and with the team, we are going to do the needful and ensure victory for our party,” he added.

Adighije said the party’s chances of winning APC in the coming elections were bright.

“If you look at my face very well you will know that I am an old war horse and I wouldn’t be standing here if I am not sure.

“So, we have great chance, we only have to do the needful to work together,” he said.
He added that the committee would do the needful to address every of the party’s challenges in Abia.

Newsmen reports that Sen. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, Deputy Chief Whip House of Representatives will serve as secretary of the committee.

Other members of the committee are Mr Henry Ikoh, Minister of State for Science, Technology and Innovation, Emeka Atuma,  Martins Azubuike and Dr Emeka Wogu, former Minister of Labour and Productivity.

The APC Abia governorship candidate, Mr Ikechi Emenike is also a member of the committee, among others

APC guber primary: NWC orders re-run in 12 LGAs of Benue

The National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has ordered re-run for the governorship primaries in 12 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Benue.

The Chairman, Benue Governorship Re-run Committee, Mr Joel Omajali, disclosed this when he addressed APC members on Thursday in Makurdi.

Omajali listed the affected LGAs as Kwande, Ushongo, Buruku, Konshisha, Ogbadibo, Agatu, Ohimini, Ado, Oju, Okpokwu, Obi and Apa.

He, however, stated that, in Buruku LGA, the re-run would take place in only three council wards namely: Mbaya, Mbaapen and Binev, respectively.

He said that the party in the state was in a race against time, as it was the last day for the submission of candidates by parties to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

“We have a timeline for this exercise. We are supposed to turn in our results latest by 5pm today, since it is the last day for all primaries.

“If we do not do it now, then Benue will risk not having a candidate. So, the Returning Officers will be dispatched on time, Omajali said.

On June 4, the Appeal Committee of the APC recommended the nullification of the governorship primaries.

The Benue APC had adopted direct primaries which the governorship congress held on May 27, produced a suspended Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia as winner.

The appeal committee, in a report submitted to the National Chairman of the party, Sen. Abdullahi Adamu, on Saturday in Abuja, said the exercise should be nullified, to avoid the agony of not fielding a candidate in the 2023 governorship election in Benue State.

The report was signed by the Benue APC Primary Election Appeal Committee Chairman, Mr Uzoamaka Onyeama, and the Secretary, Gyang Dung Gyang.

The committee said it received petitions and reports from party faithful and citizens of the state, including governorship aspirants, Sen. Barnabas Gemade, Prof. Terhemba Shija, Mr. Michael Aondoaka (SAN), that the said governorship primaries never hold.

The report in part reads: “the few result sheets the aspirants presented to us had more curiously no agent of the governorship aspirants or agent of the declared candidate to prove the results sheets produced and declared genuine.

“It is the submission of the Appeal committee members that form the foregoing, the past event of Zamfara State and the most latest and potent danger of Anambra State; that no governorship primary held in Benue State and we recommend as follows; that the NWC cancel in its entirety the gubernatorial primary election in Benue State and conduct a fresh election.”

Primary: APC NWC issue warning signal to Southern presidential aspirants, says Lawan is still Buhari’s choice

The National Youth Leader of All Progressives Congress, Dayo Israel, has warned presidential aspirants and political leaders from the South against disunity.

According to him, there is a danger for the Southern aspirants as the party holds its presidential primary today.

Israel urged the aspirants to leverage the position of the Northern governors to shift power to the South.

Among the southerners contesting are National Leader of APC, Bola Tinubu, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi.

He said, “The Southern Aspirants better get their acts together and leverage on the commitment of the Northern Governors proposing to zone Presidency to the South.

A word is enough for the wise. Ewu mbe loko longe (there is danger).”

The Northern governors also asked aspirants from the northern region to withdraw.

“We affirm that upholding this principle is in the interest of building a stronger, more united and more progressive country.

“We, therefore, wish to strongly recommend to President Muhammadu Buhari that the search for a successor as the APC’s presidential candidate be limited to our compatriots from the southern states.

“We appeal to all aspirants from the northern states to withdraw in the national interest and allow only the aspirants from the south to proceed to the primaries,” the governors had said.

Israel also said members of the National Working Committee members rejected Ahmed Lawan as the consensus candidate of the APC because it negated the federal character principle.

He said, “Earlier today, during the NWC meeting, the National Chairman informed us that after the consultations hosted by the President, he is instructed to inform us that Ahmed Lawan is the preferred choice.

“We were only informed, it wasn’t deliberated upon. Neither was our opinion sought

“The issue at stake is not about consensus but about federal character. Let’s not mix issues. What is at stake is should power be retained in the North or moved to the South? The Northern governors with the president have supported the Southern agenda, the NWC members support this.”

An attempt by the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Abdullahi Adamu, to select Senate President Ahmad Lawan – a northerner – as the preferred candidate of the APC, failed on Monday as both the Presidency and 12 northern governors of the party openly distanced themselves from the move.

Adamu had summoned a meeting of the 25-member National Working Committee at the party’s headquarters in Abuja ahead of the presidential primary slated for Tuesday (today).

At the meeting, Adamu informed the NWC that Lawan was the anointed candidate of the party, a move which was not accepted by all of the members.

After the meeting, Adamu hurriedly jumped into his vehicle and zoomed off.

The APC’s stand on Monday threatened the hope of the South to produce the next president as a northerner, former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, on May 28 got the presidential ticket of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party after defeating southern aspirants including the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, and the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel.

But northern governors in the APC, at their meeting on Saturday night, raised the hope of the South when they insisted that the presidential candidate of the party should emerge from the southern part of the country.

Adamu’s plot to impose Lawan was on Monday greeted by a groundswell of opposition from some NWC members, northern governors and other presidential aspirants.

Moments after the NWC meeting, about seven members led by the National Organising Secretary of the APC, Suleman Argungu, told journalists at the party secretariat that Lawan was not the preferred candidate of the party.

  • LAWAN: APC Chairman made a pronouncement beyond his competence- Akeredolu

Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, has said the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, made a pronouncement beyond his competence, by announcing the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, as APC presidential consensus candidate.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) recalls that on Monday, the APC national chairman announced Lawan as the consensus candidate for the presidential ticket, but the party’s national working committee (NWC) led by Sulaiman Argungu, the national organizing secretary, said it would align with APC governors on power shift to the south.

Reacting to Adamu’s choice in a statement issued on Monday, Akeredolu said the decision made by the national chairman is beyond his competence.

He said the chairman’s choice runs contrary to that of the majority in the party, and as such it is dangerous.

In his words: “My attention has just been drawn to the expensive joke purportedly enacted by the national chairman of APC, Senator Abdullahi Adamu. The speculation is rife that the chairman took a flight of fancy and decided to make a pronouncement beyond his competence.”

“He has, allegedly, made public his preferred choice as the candidate of the APC for the office of the president in the next general elections. This alleged pronouncement runs contrary to the position of the majority of northern governors in APC and their counterparts in the south.

“Our agreement is unanimous on this issue. The office of the president should be contested for by qualified persons from the southern part of the country if the move to get a consensus candidate fails. There has been no shift from this settled issue.

“Let it be known that the chairman or anyone who holds a contrary opinion does so at a personal level. He is at best embarking on a frolic which reasonable people will consider dangerous. We are grieving but have not forgotten that power must shift to the south. On this, we stand.”

Presidential primary: Adamu runs for cover as APC Govs meeting with NWC ends in deadlock

The meeting between members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF) and the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) ended in deadlock at the party’s national secretariat on Monday night.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports almost all the members of the NWC and the Progressive Governors were in attendance during the meeting at the National Secretariat of the ruling party that lasted for an hour except the National Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu.

In attendance include Governors of Lagos, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Kaduna, Nasir El-Rufai, Kano, Umar Ganduje, Plateau, Simon Lalong, Niger, Sani Bello, Nasarawa, Abdullahi Sule, Borno, Babagana Zulum, Gombe, Mohammad Inuwa Yahaya, among others.

The governors that arrived at the party’s national secretariat around 8 pm, and headed to the NEC Hall of the party came out without addressing newsmen that waited endlessly.

The meeting was not unconnected with the controversy rocking the party over the choice of the party’s presidential candidate for the 2023 presidential election.

Sources close to the governors revealed that the meeting has shifted to the Abuja home of the national chairman, adding that they could not arrive at any agreement over the consensus candidate due to interests.

All Progressives Congress (APC), National Working Committee has debunked news making rounds as announced by the National Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu, that Ahmad Lawan has been anointed consensus candidate of the party.

Shortly after the National Working Committee (NWC) meeting, the Organizing Secretary, Sulaiman Argungun, made the clarification while addressing journalists at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja.

He debunked earlier claim by the National Chairman Abdulahi Adamu in his briefing to journalists that Ahmad Lawan is the anointed candidate of the party dismissing it as a mere information that was not deliberated on by members of NWC.

He further reiterated the National Working Committees support with the Northern Governor on shifting power to the south.

  • Crisis in APC as NWC members accuse Adamu of blackmail

Crisis in APC as NWC members accuse Adamu of blackmail

Crisis deepens in the All Progressives Congress (APC) party as the National Working Committee (NWC) members accused National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu of blackmail into accepting his decisions.

The NWC members lamented that the National Chairman takes decisions unilaterally when it suits him.

They equally decried that he invokes the name of President Muhammadu Buhari to blackmail NWC members into accepting his decisions.

In a statement issued Tuesday titled, “APC and the Need for Vigilance: Urgent Call for Intervention”, and jointly signed by the National Vice Chairman, North-West, Dr. Salihu Lukman and the National Vice Chairman, South-West, Mr. Isaacs Kekemeke, said no member was elected at the March 26, 2022, National Convention to warm seats or offices in the National Secretariat.

They lamented that every effort to get the Chairman to respect the authority of the NWC as elected was proving very difficult.

They stated that they were compelled to make a statement following the serial postponement of the scheduled NWC meetings, twice within 48 hours.

The party Chieftains noted that they were convinced beyond doubt that this was a deliberate attempt to foist a fait accompli on the NWC on fundamental issues that affect the party.

They stated: “Within just two months in the lifespan of the new leadership of our great party, APC, led by His Excellency, Sen. Abdullahi Adamu, the NWC, organ of the party vested with the power of managing the day-to-day affairs, including implementing decisions of the National Executive Committee (NEC), as provided in Article 13.4 of the APC Constitution, has been rendered redundant.

“The National Chairman takes decisions unilaterally. When it suits him, he invokes the name of our leader, President Muhammadu Buhari to blackmail NWC members into accepting his decisions.

“Every effort to get the Chairman to respect the authority of the NWC elected on March 26, 2022, APC National Convention is proving very difficult, if not impossible. Note that NEC’s donation of its powers was to NWC and not to the National Chairman or any individual.”

Against this background, the NWC members called all APC leaders to intervene urgently and call Adamu to order.

The added: “The National Chairman must be properly reminded to recognise that the business of managing the day-to-day affairs of the party is the responsibility of the NWC as provided in provisions of the APC Constitution.

“He is free to consult any party leader(s). Such consultations will not represent decisions of the NWC or any organ of the party unless and until it is adopted by a properly constituted meeting of the NWC or organ in question according to the letters and spirit of the APC constitution.

“As a party, we have suffered enough judicial embarrassments arising from clearly avoidable leadership breach of our party’s constitution and spelt out rules.”

APC National Organising Secretary Sulaiman Arugungu confirmed that the exercise had been shifted.

He said: “As far as the party is concerned all the 28 aspirants that paid and picked the forms for the nomination as Presidential aspirants, nobody has formally written to us that he has withdrawn his aspiration.

All the forms of the 28 aspirants will be taken to the screening committee, not tomorrow, but on Tuesday, God’s willing, at Transcop Hilton Hotel.”

Arugungu said the panel will be constituted today.

“But, we have to consult with our leaders before we make it public. By tomorrow we will know who are the panellists,” Arugungu assured.

2023: Again, PDP NWC adjusts dates for primaries

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has adjusted the dates for the primaries ahead of the 2023 general elections.

The Lagos State Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr Hakeem Amode, disclosed this in a statement in Lagos.

According to him, the new date of the party’s primary elections for the State Houses of Assembly and the House of Representatives seats is now May 22.

Meanwhile, the primary for the Senate remained May 23.

He urged the party members and members of the public to take note of the new dates.

Meanwhile, the earlier adjusted dates of the primaries for the senate and governorship earlier scheduled for May 23 and May 26 were not tampered with in the new adjustment.
