Anambra 2025: I’m open to coalition that can stop Soludo – Nwosu

Mr John Nwosu an aspirant in the Nov. 8 governorship election in Anambra says he will support any coalition that will stop the reelection of Gov. Chukwuma Soludo.

Nwosu, who is aspiring on the platform of the Labour Party said this while speaking to newsmen in Awka on Monday.

He said Anambra was going through its worst government since the fourth republic and needed redemption even though if it will take a coalition of people who were ready to provide a better deal for the people.

Nwosu said the development going on in Anambra is not commensurate with the increase in resources accruing to the state.

“The new infrastructure the government claim to have built are hardly commensurate with the revenue the state has garnered in three years, focusing on infrastructure at the expense of peace, security and quality of life is counterproductive.

“In fact, talks about coalition are ongoing, the common denominator is the collective will to bring this disastrous administration to an end.

“Anambra’s interest supersedes any personal interests or ambitions. If it will take a coalition of like minds to stop Gov. Chukwuma Soludo and his cabal, so be it.

“I am ready to be part of that coalition, we must all get involved in rescuing Anambra,” he said.

Nwosu said he was confident that the 2025 election would be free, fair and that the masses were now aware enough to make electoral choices and defend them

He said he was the best candidate for LP ticket and most qualified to takeover from Soludo while reiterating his commitment to serve for one term of four years.

“I believe the people of Anambra State will get the government they deserve if they turn out boldly to vote for such a government.

“There will only be one LP candidate after the April 5 primaries, if it is me, I will expect my fellow aspirants to rally around and support me, if it is someone else, I will do the same,” he said.

    Police release Okorocha’s son-in-law, Nwosu

The Police have released a former Imo State gubernatorial candidate, Uche Nwosu.

Nwosu, a son-in-law to former Governor Rochas Okorocha, was whisked away by the security agencies at St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Eziama-Obaire, Nkwerre Local Government Area of Imo State on Sunday.

The heavily-armed security operatives stormed the church with high-powered security vehicles and shot sporadically into the air before arresting Nwosu.

Confirming the release via a statement on Monday, the Special Adviser to Nwosu on Media, Nwadike Chikezie, said his principal did not spend a night in custody.

“I have spoken with him and he extended his greetings to all of us out there. While we await police report on why the abduction and arrest, we call on everyone to remain calm and focused because God is in charge of the whole situation,” the statement read.

“The act of desecrating the House of God we all know a direct affront and challenge to God Almighty. We leave God to do his fight because vengeance is of God but to all Christians, does it now mean that the Government has no more respect for God, and does it now mean that the House of God is no more a place one can take refuge? God prove your answers.”

The earlier arrest of Nwosu created panic in the community as it was the outing service of his late mother who was laid to rest on Wednesday 22nd December 2021.

While police authorities did not immediately confirm the incident, they released a statement later to clarify that Nwosu was arrested and not abducted as feared in some quarters.

  • Imo 2023: Okorocha speaks on campaigning for son-in-law, Nwosu

Imo 2023: Okorocha speaks on campaigning for son-in-law, Nwosu

Former governor of Imo State and member representing Imo West Senatorial District, Senator Rochas Okorocha says contrary to the claim in some quarters, he has not begun to campaign for his son-in-law Ugwumba Uche Nwosu for the 2023 Imo governorship seat.

Okorocha was last week quoted in some media outlets to have said that he had commenced moves to make Nwosu the governor of the state during the empowerment programme of Hon. Ugonna Ozuruigbo, a member of the House of Representatives.

Nwosu contested but lost the 2019 governorship position.

But, the former governor, in a statement issued by his media adviser, Sam Onwuemeodo, described the report said he would not have begun to campaign for Nwosu at such an event by one of the strongest members of his political family.

The statement said, “Those whose programme or only project for Imo people, has remained Okorocha, even almost two years after he had left as the governor of the state and has been busy with legislative business in the senate, had gone to town with the false claim that Okorocha had begun to campaign for Nwosu, for the 2023 Imo governorship.

“In marketing that falsehood, they had said that Okorocha made the statement at the empowerment programme of Rt. Hon Ugonna Ozuruigbo, a member of the House of Representatives. Okorocha would not have begun to campaign for Nwosu at such an event by one of the strongest members of his political family.

“At the programme in question, Okorocha had highly commended Ozuruigbo and also added that all the members of the House of Representatives who are members of his political family, have been doing exceptionally well and added that, if Ugumba Nwosu had become governor in 2019, he would have also done very well, to the delight of Imo people and to all and sundry.

“Those who are still cowed by Okorocha’s monumental achievements as governor, and who have been finding it difficult to cope with the burden of governance, and who also think that the only way they can measure up or level up is by either destroying some of Okorocha’s signature projects or by blackmailing him, injected virus into that innocent comment to achieve their petty goal. Having been denied his obvious victory in the 2019 governorship election, Nwosu had since, moved on with his life. Okorocha had also kept that incident behind him.”

The statement added that there was no reason for Okorocha to begin to campaign for Nwosu who had not told anybody that he is interested in the Imo governorship seat.

It continued, “It is important to also state that, the only way anybody can diminish Okorocha’s popularity in Imo or stop Imo people from loving him, is by achieving more than him. Any other approach or method to lower the antenna of his amazing achievements in Imo will not work.”

The statement urged the general public to disregard such gimmicks when they come up.

  • Imo poll: Supreme Court voids Uche Nwosu’s candidature

The Supreme Court on Friday, voided the candidature of Uche Nwosu as governorship flag bearer of the Action Alliance (AA) in the 2019 general elections in Imo, over double nomination.

The apex court, in its judgment delivered by Justice Adamu Augie, upheld the judgment of the Court of Appeal, Abuja Division.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the court had, about two months’ ago, upheld the decision of the Federal High Court which also voided Nwosu’s candidacy.

A chieftain of the Action Peoples Party (APP), Mr Uche Nnadi, had dragged Nwosu to the Federal High Court where the court held that he was not qualified to stand for the election.

The court based its verdict on the fact that Nwosu already had a valid ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Unsatisfied with the ruling of the Court, Nwosu approached the Court of Appeal to put the decision to further test.

The Court dismissed all issues raised by Nwosu in his appeal.

Not satisfied with the decision of the Court of Appeal, Nwosu headed to the apex court to upturn the decision of the lower court.

The Supreme Court, in its judgment, dismissed Nwosu’s appeal, saying that he could benefit from his iniquity.

The Court also dismissed the argument by Nwosu’s lawyer that the suit was statute barred.

Justice Augie said, ”The appellant cannot be allowed to benefit from his own iniquity.

“The action is not caught up by limitation of time.

“This case rest on the issue of illegality and this court cannot be used to enforce illegalities.

    “This appeal is hereby dismissed.”

In his reaction shortly after the judgment was delivered, the Chairman of APC, Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, said the implication was that all the votes given to Nwosu at that election were void votes.

  • Okorocha’s son-in-law approaches A’Court, to challenge tribunal ruling upholding Ihedioha’s election

The Action Alliance (AA) says its governorship candidate in Imo, and Rochas Okorocha’s son-in-law Mr Uche Nwosu will go to the Court of Appeal to reject the judgment delivered on Saturday by Imo Election Petitions Tribunal.

The party in a statement signed by its Acting National Secretary, Mr Eli Moses in Abuja on Tuesday said that the tribunal’s verdict was “judgment and not justice.”

The tribunal led by Justice Malami Dogondaji had on Sept. 21, dismissed three petitions challenging the election of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Gov. Emeka Ihedioha of Imo at the election held on March 9.

Moses said that the tribunal did not take cognisance of the provisions of the constitution on two-third of the local government areas in winning governorship election.

“The attention of the National Think Tank Committee of our great Party Action Alliance, has been drawn to the ruling of the Imo Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal delivered at Abuja on Sept. 21.

“We wish to state as follows:That the party having interfaced with our team of lawyers, reject the outcome of the ruling by the tribunal as it only qualifies as a judgment and not justice.

“That the party and our governorship candidate Chief Uche Nwosu insist that the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is and remains the ground rule for adjudication.

“And therefore, the PDP and its candidate at the election did not meet the constitutional requirement of two-thirds majority in the 27 local government areas of the state as required by law,” he said.

According to the party’s scribe, the judgment of the tribunal is in total violation of the provisions of the constitution and therefore, shall be challenged by the party at the Court of Appeal with a view to seeking justice.

“The party is and remains in total support of its governorship candidate Chief Uche Nwosu as he seeks justice at the Court of Appeal,” he said.

It would be recalled that the three petitions were filed by the All Progressives Grand Alliance and its candidate, Ifeanyi Ararume, Action Alliance Party, and its candidate Mr Uche Nwosu as well as the All Progressives Congress and its candidate, Hope Uzodinma.

The three-man tribunal led by Justice Malami Dogondaji unanimously held that the petitions lacked merit.

The tribunal also held that the petitioners failed to prove that Ihedioha was unlawfully declared as the governor of the state by INEC.

JUST IN: Tribunal dismisses Nwosu, Araraume, Uzodinma’s petitions, upholds Ihedioha’s election as Imo gov

The Imo State Election Tribunal sitting in Abuja has dismissed the petition of the All Progressives Grand Alliance and its governorship candidate Senator Ifeanyi Araraume for lacking in merit.

The tribunal in its sitting today, Saturday, September 21, 2019 also dismissed the petition of the candidate of the Action Alliance Party, Mr. Uche Nwosu, for incompetence.

The Judges unanimously struck out the petition of the All Progressive Congress, APC, candidate, Senator Hope Uzodinma for been based on hearsay evidence. Tribunal finds that the petitioners did not prove the unlawful exclusion of results as they are contending.

Three petitions were filed by the governorship candidates of the Action Alliance (AA), All Progressives Congress (APC) and All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), asking the tribunal to nullify the election of Mr Emeka Ihedioha of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on the ground that he was unlawfully declared as the governor of the state by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

However, the three petitions have now been dismissed as lacking in merit and election of the PDP candidate, Emeka Ihedioha upheld by the 2019 Imo Governorship election petition tribunal.

  • Imo: Tribunal grants AA’s request to withdraw Nwosu’s petition against Ihedioha’s election

The Imo State Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Owerri has granted the request of Action Alliance (AA) to withdraw from the petition filed by its governorship candidate in the 2019 election, Ugwumba Uche Nwosu.

The party had, in a letter dated May 27 and signed by its Legal Adviser, Anaukyaa Peter, requested its counsel, Okey Ehieze, to discontinue his appearance in the suit no: EPT/OW/GOV/IM/02/2019, in which AA is the second petitioner.

Chairman of the Tribunal, Justice Michael Adewara, Monday, said that the Tribunal has no option but to grant the request of the petitioner.

The Tribunal, however, rejected the request of the respondents, Emeka Ihedioha and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to have the case struck off.

But Nwosu in reaction said that he was not perturbed by the ruling.

In a statement signed by the Director, Media and Publicity Ugwumba Uche Nwosu Campaign Organization, Onwuasoanya FCC Jones, the AA guber candidate said that as disappointing as this decision was, he assured his supporters that there was absolutely no cause for alarm, as the ruling has in no way vitiated the credibility of the petition.

Nwosu maintained that he was the undisputed winner of that election, and expressed optimism that the learned justices would serve justice by declaring him the winner of that election.

He said, “We are not unaware of the jubilation going on in the camp of the PDP, and the suspicious interest they have shown in this matter. While we sympathize with Imolites over the possible squandering of our commonwealth to procure individuals and accessories, that may help them perpetuate their illegal reign, we encourage all Imolites of goodwill to remain steadfast and firm, as the best news for Imolites is yet ahead.

We are also delighted to inform Imolites that attempts by the PDP and Chief Ihedioha to prevail on the tribunal to strike off our matter was resisted by the learned justices. With this development, His Excellency Ugwumba Uche Nwosu is still very much on course to retrieve his mandate from the thieving locusts,” he added.

However, Nwosu who came second in the governorship election, after the contentious declaration of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Emeka Ihedioha as governor-elect, stated that he has put aside the injustice visited against him by the leadership of the APC and is willing to form a coalition with the party to reclaim his mandate.

According to him, “the national leadership of the APC made a mistake by not giving the party’s ticket to me, we warned them against giving the ticket to Hope Uzodinma but the leadership of the party ignored our warnings, but the outcome of the elections has justified us. We joined the AA two months to the election and I won the governorship election if not for the manipulations, we also got two Federal House Representatives seats and eight seats in the State Assembly but now that they have realized their mistakes we are ready to form alliance with APC to reclaim our mandate”.

Nwosu, who addressed selected journalists in Owerri, disclosed that he has petitioned the Tribunal against the declaration of Ihedioha as governor-elect, adding that he is confident that the election will be upturned.

He pointed out that the declaration of the PDP candidate as the governor-elect by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was an aberration to the Constitution and will not stand.

In his words, “I have petitioned the Tribunal and I am sure that the issues raised which bothers on Constitution cannot be swept away, I am certain that I will reclaim my mandate in no distant time”.

Nwosu, who attributed his success in the election to Imo youths, stated that power has temporarily left the masses.

He however urged the youths to remain calm and law abiding, stating that “what is happening is an interim setback, it will soon be over and power will once more return to the people.”

Nwosu also commended President Muhammadu Buhari for presenting level playing ground for all political parties during the elections.

Nwosu, a former Chief of Staff to Governor Okorocha, added, “We are going to work with APC to deliver Imo State to President Muhammadu Buhari.

“We will deliver Governor Rochas Okorocha as senator because Action Alliance has no senatorial candidate in Orlu zone.

  • 2019: Nobody can stop me from succeeding my father-in-law in office – Nwosu

The Chief of Staff to the Imo State Governor, Mr. Uche Nwosu, has said he will succeed his father-in-law, Rochas Okorocha, as governor in 2019.

Nwosu, who spoke at a press conference in Abuja on Sunday, described as “unfortunate” comments attributed to the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Adams Oshiomhole, suggesting that he (Oshiomhole) would not serve as an enabler for Okorocha to establish a family political dynasty.

Nwosu said there was no part of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) making it an offence for someone to seek an election to office on account of him/her being married to the offspring of an occupant of such an office.

He said, “I won that (primary) election. I remain the candidate of the APC and nobody can take it away from me. It might take a while but let me state it and state it clearly, I am the candidate of the APC and by the special grace of God, come 2019 I have no doubt that I will be the governor of Imo State.”

He explained that the claim by Oshiomhole that the APC National Working Committee under his leadership upheld the result of the primary submitted by the he Chairman of the Imo State governorship primaries, Ahmed Gulak, was “fraudulent”.

He stated that he won the one earlier conducted by a majority of the members of the Ahmed Gulak panel after the former Political Adviser to former President Goodluck Jonathan allegedly sneaked out of Owerri to Abuja to announce a result which the party’s headquarters cancelled.

He insisted that he also won the second one conducted by the Ibrahim Agbabiaka committee.

Nwosu said “The APC NWC set up the committee led by General Agbabiaka and they came to Owerri to conduct another primary, which I won.

The committee sent their report to the NWC, and the national committee approved the result.”
