Wike asks CP to establish additional police divisions in Gwagwalada

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr Nyesom Wike, has asked the Police Commissioner, FCT Command, to establish two additional Police Divisions in Gwagwalada Area Council of the territory.

Wike gave the directive during a security town hall with relevant stakeholders on Friday in Gwagwalada, to find lasting solutions to security challenges affecting the federal capital.

The order was in response to the request by the Council’s Chairman, Mr Abubakar Giri, who pleaded for the additional divisions to improve security, particularly in border communities.

Giri said that the area council currently has only two police divisions, one each in Zuba and Gwagwalada.

He also complained of abandoned buildings that have constituted security threats in the area, as most of the buildings have become safe haven for criminals.

Wike, who acknowledged the challenges, assured residents of the area of President Bola Tinubu’ resolve to address the security challenges in the FCT.

He said that the two police divisions would be established immediately considering the security exigency.

The minister also said that he had secured President Tinubu’s approval to procure and distribute operational vehicles and communications gadgets to the police and other security agencies in the FCT.

Wike asked the council chairman to write to him unfailingly on Monday, indicating the number and locations of all uncompleted buildings constituting security threats in the area.

He assured the residents that he would approve the demolition of the uncompleted buildings or alternatively transfer ownership of the buildings to the communities to complete and put them to good use.

He also promised to construct a befitting health facility and implement other development projects in the area as requested by the residents.

“I am here on the directive of President Tinubu to meet and discuss with you the prevailing security challenges and find lasting solutions together.

“I was in Bwari Area Council on Wednesday and today I am here at Gwagwalada on the same issue. Next week I will visit another area council until we cover all the six area councils.

“Security is one of the priorities of the currency government, so, be rest assured that you are not alone, and we will do all that we can to end security challenges in the territory,” he said.

Earlier, the Aguma of Gwagwalada, Mohammed Magaji, urged the minister to assist the police with more operational vehicles to enhance security operations in the area.

Magaji said Gwagwalada Police Division has only one operational vehicle, which is also in terribly bad.

The traditional leader also called for the construction of an additional General Hospital in the area to provide quality health service to residents.

Wike had on Wednesday, began a tour of the six Area Councils of the FCT to meet with community leaders and relevant stakeholders over security concerns.

The visit, which began with Bwari Area Council, was in response to the recent spike in the abductions and killings of residents by bandits, especially in Kuje and Bwari area councils.

Wike had told stakeholders in Bwari that the FCT Administration would provide the needed logistics and equipment to support security agencies to flush out criminals terrorising the territory.

  • After over 2 months, investigators report on 7-storey building collapse in Rivers

After over two months that the 7-storey building collapsed at Woji road in New GRA, Port Harcourt, the judicial commissions of inquiry set up to investigate the occurrence has finally presented reports on the incidence.

TheNewsGuru (TNG) reports two judicial commissions of inquiry were set up to investigate the management and affairs of Integrated Medical Industries Limited (Auto Syringe Factory) and the collapsed 7-storey building at Woji road.

Chairman of the judicial commission of inquiry set up to investigate the 7-storey building collapse at Woji road, Justice Adolphus Enebeli while presenting his report said the building approval process at the Ministry of Urban Development and Physical Planning is a mangled mess of procedures.

Justice Enebeli said from research findings, the current commission of inquiry is the most incisive x-ray of the operation of the Ministry of Urban Development and Physical Planning.

He said past efforts were ad-hoc in nature, and urged Governor Wike not to allow the report to be confined to the dustbin of inaction, in deference to those who died in the building collapse.

He said that the gory details of the videos were enough to force out tears from the strongest of men.

Presenting his report, Chairman of the judicial commission of inquiry set up to investigate the Management and Affairs of Integrated Medical Industries Limited (Auto Syringe Factory), Justice Constance Douyle Green said the findings and recommendations of her commission are contained in a four-volume report.

While hoping that Rivers State Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike will implement the report, Justice Green said the recommendations of the commission of inquiry were in line with its 10-point terms of reference.

Speaking during the presentation of the reports, Governor Wike declared that any official indicted over the collapsed 7-storey building will be duly prosecuted, while also stressing that his administration will implement the reports of the two commissions.

The Rivers State Governor thereafter set up a seven-man White Paper Committee to take immediate steps for the implementation of the recommendations of the two commissions of inquiry.

“Let me assure you that we wouldn’t have wasted our time and resources setting up the commissions of inquiry. The reports will be duly implemented. Anybody indicted for the collapsed building will face the law. If you are connected to the deaths of people, we will prosecute you for murder,” he said.

Governor Wike, while noting that the Rivers State Government will take direct measures to restructure and professionalize the State Ministry of Urban Development and Physical Planning, said any government official serving or retired who is indicted will face the full weight of the law.

On the Integrated Medical Industries Limited (Auto Syringe Factory), Governor Wike said that government cannot be taken for granted.

  • 2019: Will internet services be unavailable during the elections?

In the past, during Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB) Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), Internet services and sometimes gsm services have been observed to be jammed with the view to curb examination malpractices through telecom services.

It has also been observed that internet services and also sometimes gsm services were occasionally unavailable during past elections in the country.

With the 2019 general elections drawing ever closer, Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has alleged that there are plans by the Federal Government through the Office of the National Security Adviser as directed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to work with internet service providers to shut down internet access during the elections.

Governor Wike said that shutting down internet access by the NSA and INEC is aimed at facilitating the rigging of the 2019 General elections.

He made the allegation when he received Savannah Centre Council on Peaceful and Violence Free Election in Nigeria at the Government House Port Harcourt.

The governor said that the negative actions of the Buhari administration indicate that they will not accept defeat when they lose the forthcoming elections.

He advised President Muhammadu Buhari to emulate Former President, Goodluck Jonathan who placed Nigeria above personal consideration.

According to Wike, “The National Security Adviser has met with INEC to ensure that internet service providers shut down the internet so that foreign bodies won’t see what’s happening in the country during the elections.

“They will jam all the frequencies and internet services to stop real-time communication during the elections.

“This plot to rig the forthcoming elections is a recipe for violence. They will not succeed in whatever they are planning. The world will be informed about their criminal activities.

“I don’t think this administration will willingly accept defeat. They should emulate Former President, Goodluck Jonathan who lost elections and accepted the outcome.

“There was no litigation. He went back home and did not generate crisis”.

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has declared that 2019 General Elections will be used by Rivers people to put an end to the dictatorial tendencies of political godfathers.

Governor Wike also stated that Rivers politics cannot be controlled by any single politician, because it is not a State in the South-West where a political godfather has usurped the mandate of the people.

Speaking during the dedication of the 2019 PDP Campaigns at the Cathedral Church of Saint, Port Harcourt on Sunday, Governor Wike said if Rivers people allow political godfathers to succeed in planting their godsons, they will suffer the consequences.

“If you allow Rivers State to be like one of the states in the south-west, we will all suffer for it.

“Luckily for us, we don’t speak one language. Therefore, it is very difficult for any leader from an ethnic nationality to control the entire state. In that South-West state, a political godfather says something against a sitting governor and it happened.

“2019 will be the end of dictatorial tendencies in our politics”, he said.

Governor Wike prayed God to grant INEC and Police the courage to act in line with their constituonal roles during the 2019 General elections.

He said: “The Police should not be professionals in the rigging of elections. We will resist any attempt to rig the elections and the votes of the people must count”.

The governor urged Rivers people to be courageous as they work in unity towards the victory of the PDP in the state.

He said that the APC Federal Government can deploy soldiers to manipulate the 2019 elections, but they will fail as they did in 2015 and 2016 rerun elections.

Governor Wike said that the Rivers PDP Campaign will be issue based, relying on the achievements of the administration to convince the people for another mandate.

He said for every Local Government Area, his administration has planted key projects in line with the New Rivers Development Blueprint.

He said that the PDP decided to dedicate the campaign to God, because it is a tradition that has worked for the good of the party.

He said: “God has used Governor Wike and the PDP to touch the lives of the people and change their fortunes for the better. Governor Wike and his team have improved the infrastructural sector, health and educational facilities and also empowered the people”.

The Cleric added that God has used Governor Wike to put smiles on the faces of Rivers people. He noted that God has chosen Governor Wike for the leadership of the state .

Nigeria @58: Gov. Wike berates APC FG for ignoring ideals of Independence

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has declared that for over three years, the APC Federal Government has done nothing to advance the ideals of independence except failures, excuses, intimidation, insecurity, stealing of elections and weakening of democratic institutions.
Addressing Rivers people during the 58th Independence Day Anniversary at the Sharks Stadium in Port Harcourt on Monday, Governor Wike said that the APC Federal Government has deliberately damaged the National Assembly, the Judiciary, and the security agencies.
He said: “After over three years in power, the Federal Government has done nothing to advance the promise of independence except failures, excuses, intimidation, insecurity, stealing of elections and weakening of democratic institutions, including the National Assembly, the Judiciary, and the security agencies.
“These are difficult times and our nation is on the edge. Democracy is at the crossroads and good governance in abeyance. ”
He regretted that the poor governance style of the APC Federal Government has led to the destruction of the nation’s economy and the impoverishment of Nigerians.
“The economy has remained comatose and is reported receding yet again, with associated economic consequences and hardship on ordinary Nigerians. Never in our history have Nigerians been subjected to untold sufferings as a result of the direct, erratic and ill-conceived economic policies and decisions of the Federal Government.
“Under their watch, our beloved country is now certified as the world headquarters of abject poverty with over 87 million people living below 2 dollars per day”, he said.
Governor Wike urged Nigerians to use the forthcoming 2019 General Election to vote in a leadership that will drive the Federal Government in the right direction.
He said:”We need leaders that would not interfere with our collective rights to live as free citizens and pursue our goals and dreams in peace, security and happiness.
“As 2019 beacons with promise, I hope Nigerians will all rise up to the challenge of leadership and vote for the candidate that would restore our faith in the promise of independence.”
In Rivers State, Governor Wike stated that his administration has translated the New Rivers Development Blueprint into reality through meaningful projects and programmes.
He said: “Today, we are delivering on all our core priorities: our economy is stronger, creating jobs and attracting new investments; our schools are getting better for our children; our healthcare system is delivering better services and our communities are safer.
“Indeed, everyday brings home the progress we have collectively made, the transformational projects we have delivered, the changes in our rural areas and above all, the fact that our State is steadily moving towards the promise of a new Rivers State with boundless opportunities for all.”
The 58th Independence Anniversary Celebration was marked by parade by the Police, Para-Military Organisations and Schools.

“What we saying is that all of us must put our heads together to remove this government that does not mean well for Nigerians. Power comes from God. If God says it is you, there is nothing any man can do about it. Man can only struggle,” he said.

Governor Wike said every member of the PDP must work as a team for the party to emerge victorious in 2019.

TNG reports the former Sokoto State governor was in Rivers to console with Wike over the death of the State’s Attorney General, Honourable Emmanuel Aguma (SAN).

  • Failed Election: Police has declared war on Rivers State says Governor Wike

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has stated that the consistency with which the Police sabotages the electoral process in Rivers State amounts to a declaration of war on the people.

In a state broadcast on Sunday on the failed Port Harcourt State Constituency Three Bye-Election disrupted by the Police and Armed APC Thugs, Governor Wike charged Rivers people not to succumb to the antics of the police, lest they become slaves in their fatherland.

Governor Wike said: “The consistent sabotage of the electoral process by the Police amounts to a declaration of war against the people of Rivers State and their solemn rights to freely and fairly choose their leaders and representatives.

“Clearly there are dangerous times ahead but we must not give in to intimidation lest we loose our liberties and become slaves in our own land.

“Against the backdrop it is up to the people of Rivers State to choose the option that will serve their interest.”

Governor Wike said despite assurances from the Rivers State Commissioner of Police during the last State Security Council meeting that the police will remain neutral and act professionally, the police on Saturday August 18, 2018, joined forces with APC thugs to disrupt elections.

He said: “As we had feared, the Police failed us completely once again and negated all that they promised. Instead of providing security for voters and INEC officials the Police brazenly colluded with political thugs of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to subvert the democratic process and denied the people of Port Harcourt Constituency III their rights to free, fair and credible elections.

“Confirmed reports from the field indicated that INEC promptly and rightly distributed elections materials to all the polling units within a recorded time.

“However, while voting was underway, armed thugs from the APC led by the State’s factional Chairman, Mr. Flag Ojukaye Amachree moved freely from one polling unit to the other, violently assaulted voters and INEC officials and carted away election materials, including smart card readers and ballot boxes.”

The governor added: “It is important to note that Ojukaye Flag Amachree who led the thugs is the same person facing multiple murder trial and instead of arresting him as ordered by the trial court, the Police has continued to aid and shield him from arrest and prosecution.

“It is equally important to note that Ojukaye Flag Amachree and his thugs freely and easily overran the entire constituency and successfully disenfranchised the electorates with the active support, protection and guidance of heavily armed Police operatives from the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (F-SARS) and the Inspector General of Police’s Monitoring Unit.”

He noted that during the June 16, 2018 Local Government Elections where APC refused to participate, the polls were conducted peacefully without rancour.

Governor Wike said that the disruption of the Port Harcourt State Constituency Three Bye-Election was not the first time the Police would be indicted for unconstitutional anti-democratic action during an election in Rivers State.

He pointed out the that following the widespread violence that erupted in the 2016 legislative re-run elections in Rivers State, the INEC Panel Report (at page 66) indicted the security agencies as brazen election riggers and singled out the F-SARS Commander Mr. Akin Fakorede as the arrowhead of the violence and rigging that characterized those elections.

He said: ” This situation is worrisome. If the Nigerian Police cannot secure and guarantee the peaceful and successful conduct of election in a single State Constituency of 8 wards, then what will happen in 2019 when they would be contending with 319 electoral wards and 4442 polling units across 23 Local Government Areas of the State?”

While the Rivers State Governor commended INEC for acting professionally, he berated the police for taking sides and offering illegal aid to APC to undermine electoral process in the state.

He thanked the people of Port Harcourt State Constituency Three for their peaceful conduct in the face of electoral provocation. He said that their action has exposed the true enemies of the state.

“Against the backdrop it is up to the people of Rivers State to choose the option that will serve their interest.

“Finally, I cannot end this broadcast without extending my gratitude to the people of Constituency III who, in the face of brazen provocation by the police and the APC thugs, remained calm and law abiding.

“Your patience has thoroughly exposed the true enemies of Rivers State and by the grace of God, we will defeat them in 2019 for as long as we remain resolute in our determination to defend our rights to be free”, Governor Wike said.
