  • Gov. Wike faults method adopted by security agencies in destroying illegal refineries

    Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has declared that the black soot damaging the state’s environment is mainly caused by Federal Security Agencies destroying illegal refineries.

    Governor Wike stated that the Rivers State Government has formally approached the Federal Government to help resolve the challenge, without any assistance from that quarter.

    Speaking during a special appearance on Channels Television Sunrise Daily at the Government House Port Harcourt on Friday, Governor Wike said that security agencies must find alternative ways of destroying illegal refineries.

    He said: “We set up a technical committee to investigate the black soot problem. The committee’s report indicated that the black soot was largely a product of the destruction of illegal refineries by security agencies.

    “It is not within the purview of the state government to tackle control the security agencies. Therefore, we met with them and appealed that they find alternative ways to destroy the illegal refineries.

    “We also appealed to the Federal Government to intervene, but so far they are yet to do anything”.

    The governor added: “We have prioritised this issue, but we cannot stop the security agencies. There must be a refined way of stopped the oil criminals, without damaging the environment “.

    He said that politics must be separated from governance in respect of issues that affect the people.

    “We should separate politics from governance. This issue of environmental challenge posed by the black soot requires the direct intervention of the Federal Government.

    “We are working with all major stakeholders to address this challenge. We are working with international oil companies to provide needed solutions. The Federal Government should as a matter of urgency intervene, because the solution is within her purview “, Governor Wike said.

    The governor explained that the Rivers State Government’s Committee has taken the fundamental steps of checking the indiscriminate burning of tyres, but the major challenge is the manner the Security Agencies destroy illegal refineries.

     

  • Governor Fayose commissions roads in Rivers state

    Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose has commissioned the reconstructed High Street and Rehabilitated Prof Okujiagu Street and Danjuma Drive, Off Odili Road, Trans Amadi, Port Harcourt.

    This is as Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike declared that he will continue to give Rivers people the best, because they deserve sustained development.

    Commissioning the roads constructed by the Wike administration, Governor Fayose commended the Rivers State Governor for his excellent performance and the delivery of projects.

    He commended Governor Wike for being a credible voice for the people in these perilous times.

    “Commissioning has become an attitude for Governor Wike. Everyday, there is a new project. I commend him for transformingthe state “, he said.

    The Ekiti State Governor who likened the Rivers State Governor to the Biblical Daniel who has remained upright, noted that Governor Wike has contributed meaningfully to the development of the country.

    He said: “Only PDP states are working in the country. We will not allow our voices to be brought down”.

    In his remarks, Governor Wike said that the companies and residents around the area would testify to the transformation of the key roads in the economic zone.

    He assured the people of Rivers State that he will remain focused on the development of the state because of his passion for the state .

    He said while other leaders have links to other states, everything about him revolves around Rivers State.

    The governor said that those who had the opportunity to serve the state but failed to make impact, should stop peddling falsehood about projects in the state.

    He said: “The people know the truth and the truth will always prevail. For instance, we have tranformed Borokiri, which was abandoned by the immediate past administration “.

    Commissioner of Works, Rt Hon Dum Dekor said that the new roads have revived the economy of the area. He said before the reconstruction of the roads, residents could not ply the roads.

    He said that the road was a refuse dump site, necessitating the piling of the road for more than three metres. The commissioner said that though the contractor was given eighteen months, through proper funding, the road was completed in 12months.

    Caretaker Committee Chairman of Port Harcourt City Local Government Area, Amadi Oparaeli thanked the Rivers State Governor for executing key projects in the area.

     

  • Governor Wike flags off the construction of Odufor-Akpoku-Umuoye road

    Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has flagged off the construction of Odufor-Akpoku-Umuoye Road to link the rural communities of Etche Local Government Area to the economic zone of the state.

    Flagging off the road construction on Wednesday , Governor Wike said that the road will expand economic opportunities in the area and empower the people.

    He said that the 23.3kilometre road is the fifth major road to be constructed by the administration since May 29, 2015.

    He said: “Etche people this is the fifth major road this administration is constructing in this local government area.

    “This is to show that politics must not be deceitful. If you make a promise, you are under obligation to fulfil the promise.

    “Some politicians plead for votes, but after elections, they run away. It is unfortunate that since the creation of this state, this important road has not been constructed “.

    The governor noted that in line with his campaign promises to the people of the area the road will be constructed on schedule .

    “We are not here to give excuses, because excuses are not necessary. This tells the Etche people who is their brother? Under this administration, an Etche man became a High Court judge and an Etche man was appointed a Vice Chancellor of a university.

    “Etche is key and very important to Rivers State and it must be at par with others. Etche was relegated in the past, but we are working to lift Eitche. We will continue to support and develop Etche “, Governor Wike siaid.

    Rivers State Works Commissioner, Mr Dum Dekor said that the 23.3kilometre road has 20 culverts and will provide 550 direct employment opportunities for the people.

    He said Odufor-Akpoku-Umuoye Road is a virgin road being constructed from start to finish by the Wike administration.

    A representative of the communities, Mr Amadi Sunny said Governor Wike has rescued them from the grip of under-development through the construction of the road.

    He said since the colonial era the road has been in a deplorable state because successive administations have neglected it.

    Mr Amadi said that the people of Etche will support Governor Wike and the PDP in 2019 because of the kind gesture.

     

  • ONELGA women endorse Governor Wike for re-election

    Women from Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area (ONELGA) have endorsed the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike for a second term.

    Thousands of the women on Monday marched through the streets of Port Harcourt before converging on Government House Port Harcourt, where they presented their position to the Rivers State Governor.

    Spokesperson of the ONELGA women, Dr Mrs. Grace Akolokwu stated that the main reason for the endorsement of Governor Wike is his restoration of peace in the area.

    She said: “As women of ONELGA, we hereby convey our sincere thanks for successfully initiating the peace process and for rebuilding our LGA as an economic centre of the state.”

    The ONELGA women lauded the governor for key projects in the area, saying that many youths have been employed in the process.

    Leader of hundreds of APC Women who defected to the PDP, Mrs Gladys Ajie noted that the execution of several projects in the area convinced them to join PDP.

    Rivers State PDP Chairman, Bro Felix Obuah stated that the party will cater for the needs of all the ONELGA women because of their support.

    Responding, Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike announced the setting up of a fund to assist the less privileged women of ONELGA recover from the ills of prolonged insecurity.

    Governor Wike urged the women to ensure that they invest the funds in small and medium-sized enterprises to uplift the living condition of their families.

    “We are committed to the empowerment of women. We shall therefore set up a fund that will give grants to women of ONELGA because of the security challenges they faced. Please invest the funds wisely”, he said.

    He also directed the State Commissioner of Water Resources to work with stakeholders in ONELGA to set up a water processing plant.

    The governor assured the people of ONELGA that his administration will continue to work towards the improvement of security for the economic stability in area.

    He said: “I will not sit down in Government House and allow criminals to torment the people. Wherever these criminals are, we will track them down”.

    He said that the APC was in power for eight years, but failed to restore security to ONELGA. He said that the APC Federal Government has neglected ONELGA which produces the wealth of the country.

    He urged INEC and security agencies to conduct credible elections during the 2019 General Election.

    The ONELGA women presented a special plaque to Governor Wike in recognition of his wonderful achievements in the local government area.

     

  • Rivers state govt. destroys petty shops along roads in Port Harcourt metropolis

    The Rivers State government today carry out demolition of petty shops erected along newly constructed roads across Port Harcourt metropolis.

    In a statement by Simeon Nwakaudu, the Special Assistant to the Rivers State Governor on Electronic Media, the state Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike decried the manner street traders deface newly constructed roads across Port Harcourt metropolis.

    According to the statement. The Governor spoke after stopping some traders that defaced parts of the Nkpogu Roundabout on the Garrison-Trans-Amadi-Elelenwo Road under construction by his administration.

    The governor appealed to the traders to use existing markets to sell their wares, saying that their activities by the roadside is not helpful to aesthetics.

    Governor Wike who was accompanied by Former Rivers State Governor, Sir Celestine Omehia told the street traders that selling at such points also endanger their lives.

    He directed security operatives to work with relevant state government agencies to restore sanity on major locations across the state capital.

    He urged residents of Port Harcourt to support the efforts of the Rivers State Government to improve the sanitation of the state capital.

     

  • Wike’s wife to Nigerians: Show love, exude forgiveness

    Justice Eberechi Suzzette Nyesom-Wike, wife of Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, governor of Rivers state, has called on Nigerians to show love and exude forgiveness this festive season and beyond.

    Justice Nyesom-Wike made this call Boxing Day while playing host to Children from the 23 Local Government Areas of the State.

    Addressing the Children at the party, Justice Nyesom-Wike preached love, unity and friendship as a way of moving the country forward.

    She said “Christmas reassures us of the love of God that is never failing, always constant. God loves us till eternity and he will never forsake us.

    “Christmas is a joyous time and that’s why people share gifts at this time, show love to one another and exude forgiveness.

    “Those who are privileged reach out to people who are in need as much as possible. That is the only way we can show that we are Christians and that we love God”.

    Justice Nyesom-Wike added that “If we don’t love our fellow human beings that we see, how can we love God that we don’t see physically.

    Justice Nyesom-Wike used the Christmas Party to reach out directly especially to Rivers kids as she shared gifts, danced with them and sang different Christmas songs with them.

    Aside children from the 23 Local Government Areas of the state, Children of non-indigenes from different states of the Federation enjoyed the splendour of the Christmas Party hosted the wife of the Governor.

    On hand to lend support to the Rivers Governor’s Wife were the Deputy Governor of the State, Ipalibo Harry Banigo; Chief Judge of Rivers State, Justice Adama Iyayi-Laminkanra; female Commissioners and wives of Commissioners and senior government officials.

    “My message to the Children of Nigeria is that we should all learn to live together and love God by expressing love to everyone that comes across us.

    “Christmas is all about love. It is all about God’s unfailing love. We thank God for the opportunity to celebrate Christmas”.

    Deputy Governor Ipalibo Harry Banigo, in her remarks, prayed God to preserve Governor Wike for him to continue to develop the State and defend the people.

    Country President of International Federation of Female Lawyers, Mrs Inime Aguma said that the Wike Administration has lifted Rivers State through quality programmes, hence the economy of the State is waxing stronger while other states are in recession.

    The children were treated to exciting fireworks, jokes and displays by television cartoon characters.

    Wike flags off N500million Private Hospitals Loan Scheme

    The Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, in order to ensure that more residents of his State have access to quality healthcare, has on Wednesday flagged off the Private Hospitals Loan Scheme.

    According to information emanating from the Special Assistant to the Rivers State Governor on Electronic Media, Simeon Nwakaudu, the first batch of the scheme will witness 37 hospitals in the State access N500 million to upgrade their facilities and improve service delivery to the people of the State, adding that while seven of the beneficiaries are non-indigenes, 30 are from Rivers State.

    Flagging off the Private Hospitals Loan Scheme at the Government House in Port Harcourt, Governor Wike urged the private medical practitioners to apply the loans judiciously, assuring the beneficiaries that while the State government will pay the interest on the loans on behalf of them, they are expected to pay the principal sum.

    “This loan is for the private hospitals to improve their facilities. It is not meant for the owners of the hospitals to solve personal problems.

    “Private hospitals are critical to healthcare delivery in the state, hence our decision to create this loan scheme to support their improvement,” Wike said.

    He noted that the beneficiaries of the N500 million loan will form the first batch, pointing out that their successful application of the funds will lead to another batch.

    In his remarks, Rivers State Health Commissioner, Dr Theophilus Odagme lauded the Governor for his investment in the health sector.

    The commissioner said 17 General Hospitals are presently being rehabilitated by the Wike Administration, while majority of the resolutions of the meeting the Governor held with the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) are being implemented.

    The Health Commissioner appealed to the private medical practitioners to pay back the loans, so that others can benefit.

    Representative of the NMA, Dr Ibitoru Korubo, said that the Governor’s intervention will help in reviving the health sector in the state.

    Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Dr Sunny Obele of Sonabel Medical Centre Eleme said that the Private Hospitals Loan Scheme should be emulated by other states and the Federal Government.

    He said that the intervention is relevant because 80 per cent of Nigerians access healthcare through private health facilities.
