Ooni of Ife Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi has reacted to the 48-hour ultimatum given to him by the Alaafin of Oyo Oba Abimbola Owoade over the conferment of the Okanlomo of Yorubaland title on businessman Dotun Sanusi.

TheNewsGuru.com(TNG) reports that Ooni’s media aide, Moses Olafare, said on Tuesday that the monarch had directed him not to issue an official response to the Alaafin’s demand.

Mr Olafare wrote on Facebook, “My Principal has directed me against issuing a Press Release on the Empty Threat of the Alawada Babasala. I beg to disappoint you gentlemen of the press.

“We cannot dignify the undignified with an official response. We leave the matter to be handled in the public court of opinion as it is already being treated.

“Let’s rather focus on narratives that unite us rather than the ones capable of dividing us.
No Press Release pls. 48 Hours My Foot!!”

On Monday, the Alaafin,  Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade, had issued the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi, a 48-hour ultimatum to revoke the Okanlomo of Yorubaland chieftaincy title recently conferred on Ibadan business tycoon, Engineer Dotun Sanusi.

In a statement on signed by his Director of Media and Publicity, Bode Durojaiye, the Alaafin described the Ooni’s action as an “affront.” He also claimed it was a direct challenge to his authority.

The Alaafin reiterated that he holds the exclusive right to bestow titles that cover the entire Yorubaland.

According to the statement: “The conferment of a Yoruba-wide chieftaincy title by the Ooni is not only ultra vires but an insult to the Titan of Yorubaland.

“The Supreme Court itself has ruled that only the Alaafin has such authority. Yet, the Ooni continues to act above the law, trampling on both tradition and the courts.”

The Alaafin warned that if the Ooni fails to withdraw the title within 48 hours, “consequences will follow.”

  • Ooni of Ife speaks on alleged $180,000 marriage scam with US-based female doctor

Ooni of Ife speaks on alleged $180,000 marriage scam with US-based female doctor

Ooni of Ife Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi has distanced himself from the allegation that he swindled one Ms Fagbule in a $180,000 marriage scam.

The monarch via his spokesman Moses Olafare in a statement on the microblogging platform X, formerly Twitter urged women to protect themselves from internet marriage fraud due to their desire to become his wife by all means.

The statement said, “The following assertions are hereby made for necessary clarifications: That the news as posted by a Twitter (now X) handle called ‘99% OPPRESSED’ is fake, untrue and absolutely an unfounded allegation only adopted as a nugatory character assassination tactic, aimed at achieving cheap popularity with a view to drawing huge followers/traffic for avaricious monetisation from Twitter (X).

“That the so-called Ms Fagbule was and is never known to the Ooni of Ife for any interpersonal communication or relationship whatsoever, talk less of being so promised with a marriage proposal.

“Ooni Adeyeye does not operate any Facebook accounts personally. He runs the palace as an institutional organisation with a functional media directorate, which has a section that operates his social media handles – Instagram, Facebook etc.”

Oba Ogunwusi queried that if the woman so mentioned as Ms Fagbule is from Osun State or Ile-Ife in particular, why didn’t she come to the palace to meet him in person throughout the so-called relationship?

“Rather than taking her matter to the appropriate agencies like EFCC and the Police for professional investigation, which could have adequately helped her, she chose to make it a social media brouhaha.

“If, for whatever reason, she had preferred social media to the Police and EFCC who are professionally trained, shouldn’t she have engaged a credible mainstream media organisation – print and electronic, or consulted credible Human Right crusaders like CDHR, Femi Falana Chambers and their likes in the country, who undoubtedly possess tested capacity and passion for applying principles of justice and fairness in their efforts of thorough investigation in any matter of injustice against the oppressed,” the Ooni further asked.

The monarch further  described the said letter of marriage proposal paraded on the X handle of the so-called ‘99% OPPRESSED’ as a fabrication of lies.

He affirmed that the letterhead used for the letter does not reflect the originality of the palace’ official letterhead, adding that the body of the letter does not also grammatically reflect letters he personally signs in any way.

“With the Ooni’s status in wealth, business success, philanthropy and highly revered royalty, to allege or even suggest that he would be collecting money from any lady for travel expenses and others in exchange for marriage with a huge portfolio of billions of naira being handled by Ooni Ogunwusi for humanity, can only be viewed by reasonable people in the society as a figment of the imagination of Mrs Fagbule and her social media Messiah.

“If the lady truly has a genuine case of marriage proposal fraud against anyone, whether or not it affects the name of the Ooni, she is hereby invited to the palace in Ile-Ife to physically meet the Ooni for fatherly assistance, and with the help of the law enforcement agencies to uncover the perpetrators of this inhuman crime against her,” the statement said.

  • Ooni of Ife drags ex-Queen Naomi’s brother to Court over illegal conversion of N26m

Ooni of Ife drags ex-Queen Naomi’s brother to Court over illegal conversion of N26m

The police in Ondo have charged Ogunseyi Akinfolarin, a former brother-in-law of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, with forgery and illegal conversion of N26 million.

The accused is Naomi Silekunola’s brother, the former wife of the Ooni of Ife.

Akinfolarin was accused of forging the Atibiti Faaye family’s receipt for the acquisition of 32 parcels of land. He was charged with three counts of forgery and illegal conversion of money.

One of the charges read: “That you, Ogunseyi Akinfolarin, fraudulently convert the sum of N26m being proceeds of the sale of plots of land belonging to Atibuti Oni at Akure, Ondo State.”

According to the prosecution, the alleged offenses were committed in September 2019.

The alleged offenses are punishable under sections 467 and 390(8)(b) of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Vol 1 Laws of Ondo State 2006. Akinfolarin pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Prosecuting counsel DSP Osoobu Itunu told the court that the team is ready to open the case, adding that all witnesses are ready to testify.

Justice Yemi Fasanmi adjourned the case to January 9, 2023, for trial.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports that the three-year marriage between Naomi and the Ooni of Ife had come to an abrupt end, with the estranged Olori stating in her Instagram post, “Today, I am a mother to God’s unique gift. I am no longer a slave to my thoughts of perfection.”

Naomi and the Ooni tied the knot in 2018 after Olori Wuraola left the Ooni in 2017.

Announcing the separation, Naomi set the records straight about her separation to avoid any misconceptions, saying her decision to move on has nothing to do with the Ooni marrying another queen.

She stated that she was indeed the only wife of the Ooni throughout their marriage even though there were side attractions, which “was never an issue.”

“I shall no longer be referred to as wife to the Ooni of Ife or as Queen of Ile-Ife” as she described herself as the Queen of the people and mother of her son.

Naomi further alleged the hypocrisy of the monarch, stating that Ooni’s public perception is different from his true character.

Her post reads: “I bless the Lord Almighty for His faithfulness in the last 3 years of my marriage. In life’s journey, it isn’t how far. Still, how well, indeed though satan should buffet if trials should come, I have this blessed assurance controlling all situations and saying to me it is well with my soul. Certainly, it is well. I made my journey into the ancient throne of Ife with faith in my heart and love for the keeper of it.

“Few impressions I would love to correct. If anyone knows otherwise, they are free to come up with facts. Let it be known that this decision to move on did not come because his majesty is married to another queen. As many would love to assume, throughout our life as a couple, I was the only married wife to him. There were side attractions, but it was never an issue.

”I never approached him with any revelation of any sort, as many believed he contacted me first and made his proposal known several months later.
The marriage was not an arranged one, as many have misconstrued. I never knew the prophetess said to have introduced me to him. Instead, he introduced her to me after I agreed to marry him. I was only being polite out of respect for him.
