TRENDING: Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Akanbi caught on camera wrapping “Marijuana”

Oluwo of Iwo Land, Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi Ilufemiloye, has been captured in a video rolling what seems like a big spliff of marijuana inside his palace.

In the video, the kind appeared to be the only one in a large room. Although there was background noise, no one was seen in the large room where he was wrapping the substance that looks like marijuana.

On the stool before him, he had a transparent nylon bag containing the “weed” and two sticks of the substance that he had successfully wrapped, Oba Akanbi who is currently serving a suspension by the Traditional Ruler’s council in Osun state appeared to be wrapping the third splif when the video was made.

In related news, the estranged wife of the queen, Chanel Chin, has also accused him of being a rapist and a drug addict and this new video making rounds on social media seems to prove her claims.

  • I did not assault fellow Oba – Oluwo

The Oluwo of Iwo in Osun, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, has denied the allegation that he assaulted the Agbowu of Ogbaagba, Oba Dhikrulahi Akinropo, during a peace meeting in the state.

Oba Akanbi, at a press conference on Tuesday in Osogbo, said the allegation was a desperate gang up against him.

The monarch, who denied the trending report of physically assaulting Oba Akinropo, said what happened was a ‘mere altercation and not physical combat’ .

Oba Akanbi said what transpired between him and the Ogbaagba monarch was a fallout of a courageous move on his part to put a stop to economic oppression against the downtrodden by kings in his domain.

“I did not punch Agbowu of Ogbaagba, although there was altercation that almost resulted to exchange of blows, but that didn’t happen at all.

“I brought him and other Obas to the police to talk to them on the need to stop selling land that did not belong to them.

“I am fighting corruption in a traditional way.

“They are selling a hectares of land at the rate of N60,000, which I’m kicking against.

“I did not touch Agbowu of Ogbaagba, although he was aggressive and we almost had altercation but I did not punch him,” the Iwo monarch said.

The Iwo monarch added he was a peace loving personality.

“If I am that boxing king you people are calling me, I should have done that in Iwo and not in Osogbo.

“I personally initiated the peace meeting in which I involved the AIG when those kings refused to desist from land grabbing despite my several warnings and advice,” Oba Akanbi said.

It would be recalled that Akanbi was alleged to have assaulted Akinropo during a peace meeting at the office of the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 11, Bashir Makama, in Osogbo on Friday.

The state government, however, condemned the incident, describing it as unfortunate and avoidable.

The government in a statement by Mrs Funke Egbemode, the Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, said a situation where monarchs engaged in public display of temperament did not edify the revered stools of “our forebears.”

  • Osun monarch explains why he wants ‘Emir of Iwo’ title

The Oluwo of Iwoland in Osun state, Abdulrasheed Akanbi, has clarified that he did not adopt the title of “Emir of Yorubaland” and could only be called Emir by “Hausas and ardent Muslims”.

The monarch had reportedly said he adopted the Emir title, which is peculiar to the North in place of Oba, a title connected with the south, because northern Emirs “do not begrudge themselves like Yoruba Obas”.

He has also been seen in the traditional northern regalia, which he says is “appropriate” for him.

However, in a statement released on Sunday by Akanbi’s media aide, Ali Ibrahim, he clarified that he could be referred to as an Emir to “integrate Nigeria nation as an indivisible entity.”

He asked if he could stop people from addressing him as Emir if they chose to.

The statement reads, “Oluwo has never adopted the Emir title; he only said he could also be called an Emir by the Hausas and ardent Muslims.

“Oba Akanbi is an Oba for the nation, with special attachment to the Yorubas. He promotes Yoruba culture to the admiration of many youths.

“Just because of Oluwo dress code today, many children are attracted to Yoruba culture of wearing aso ofi.

“I said so (reference to being an emir) to integrate Nigeria nation as an indivisible entity. All working tools are available for the integration and unity of our dear country.

“I’ve visited the north several times. Core Hausa hardly pronounce Yoruba words correctly. They call me emir when I am with them. Is there anything wrong in answering to such?

“Even, the Hausa in Iwo here call me emir. Will I stop them from addressing me as such?” the monarch asked.

  • Oba’s coronation: Olubadan sues Ajimobi, Attorney General, 22 others

The Olubadan of Ibadan land, Oba Saliu Adetunji, has sued the Oyo State Governor Abiola Ajimobi and 23 others, over their involvements in the crowning of 21 kings in Ibadan on August 27, 2017.

Joined in the suit are the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in the state, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters in the state, the eight high chiefs that were elevated to kings, as well as the Baales that were conferred with kingship status.

Apart from the suit filed by Olubadan, there are others variously filed by Rashidi Ladoja, Abdul Jelil Karimu and others.

In the suit with file number I/1077/2017, which was filed at High Court of Justice, Oyo State on September 19, 2017, the Olubadan is claiming that the governor violated the Chiefs Laws CAP 28 of the state, saying that Ajimobi does not possess the power and authority to confer anybody the right to wear a beaded crown and coronet.

The Olubadan is also claiming that the crowing of the kings is illegal and void since the governor did not consult with the Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs.

The Olubadan is seeking an order setting aside the Gazette Numbers 14 and 15 of Volume 42 of August 23 and 24, 2017 made by the governor and which conferred the right to wear crown and coronet on the elevated high chiefs and Baales.

He said the governor’s action violated provisions of the CAP 28 of the Chiefs Laws of the state.

The monarch, therefore, prays the court to set aside the installation of the new kings.

TheNewsGuru.com reports that Governor Ajimobi had some few weeks ago presented staff of office to 21 monarchs in Ibadan apparently against the wish of the Olubandan.

The governor further warned the Olubadan not to be involved or allowed himself to be used by politicians as the coronation of the 21 obas was in the interest of the people.

TheNewsGuru.com reports that the Olubadan who shunned the ceremony vowed to seek redress in court insisting the 21 monarchs were wearing cartons and not crowns.

  • Chieftaincy laws: You have no right to tamper with the system, Olubadan blasts Ajimobi

The Olubadan of Ibadan land, Oba Saliu Adetunji, has said the recently reviewed chieftaincy laws was an aberration of the system as no king, governor or chief have a right to tamper with the system without proper consultation with the people concerned.

The monarch said the recommendation of 32 crowns for Ibadan by the Boade Commission set up by Oyo State was a joke too far.

Reacting to an interview granted the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Mr. Bimbo Kolade, on a Splash FM programme, Oro Sunnukun, the ruler, who spoke through his Director of Media and Public Affairs, Mr. Adeola Oloko, insisted his opposition to the chieftaincy review remained same.

According to him, the erroneous impression in that interview was that Kabiyesi had, at one time, opposed the chieftaincy review before he changed his mind to support it.

Oba Adetunji said: “For the avoidance of doubt, there was never a time the Olubadan supported the review embarked upon by the Oyo State government. This was why the first-class monarch did not submit any memorandum nor make any representation to the panel. When, last week, the panel submitted its report to the governor, the public would vividly remember that the Olubadan was not in the picture, because he was not invited.

The young and old in Ibadan know that the Ibadan chieftaincy system is not a creation of the government. It is a creation of Ibadan people. No king, no governor, no elite, no high chief has the right to tamper with the system without recourse to our people.

How many town hall meetings has the state government convened before arriving at the conclusion that Ibadan deserves 32 crowns? To show ignorance of our tradition, the panel lumped up our highly respected high chiefs with baales, who are always nominated by the family mogaji.

Secondly, if the traditional institution wants a review, it is not the duty of government to spearhead the review. It is the duty of the Olubadan-in-council to sit down and look at what they want to review and register same to the state government for approval.

In Ile-Ife, which the commissioner mentioned in the interview, this is the tradition. The Osun State government did not spearhead the review. In Lagos and Ogun states, the case is similar.

Besides, there are two cases in court on this same issue, which the Oyo State government is not unaware of.

Thirdly, you do not have to be a member of the Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs to know the creation of royalties and crowns is a matter for discussion and deliberation. So, the question is: how long ago has the council met? Therefore, it is an exercise in futility to embark on the creation of new crowns and royalties without first resolving these issues.

Besides, how many emirs are in Kano city, if you are talking of size and population? How many Sultans are in Sokoto? And how many queens are in England? Kabiyesi will not be able to attend the meeting called by the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters to discuss the issue slated for August 23 (today) because of a subsisting court order as Olubadan is a law-abiding citizen of Nigeria.”

  • Court orders Oba’s arrest over alleged involvement in ‘Yahoo Yahoo’ scam

An Osun State Chief Magistrate Court has issued a warrant of arrest against a first class traditional ruler in the state, the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi.

According to a report by Channels Television, the arrest warrant is coming days after Chief Magistrate, Olusola Aluko, threatened at the last sitting of the court that if Oba Akanbi failed to appear before him in compliance with the order of the court on November 25, in a case filed against him by the Oluwo of Iwo-Oke, Oba Kadiri Adeoye, he would have no option but to issue a bench warrant for his arrest.

At Tuesday’s sitting, while the applicant, Oba Adeoye, was in court, the Oluwo of Iwo was conspicuously absent, a situation that drew the rage of Magistrate Aluko.

He had at the last sitting sent another monarch, Ologburo of Ogburo, Oba Asimiyu Sadiq, to represent him.

Counsel to the Oluwo of Iwo-Oke, Mr Soji Oyetayo, in his submission urged the court not to entertain any of the applications filed by the respondent until he complies with the order of the court.

He said: “The first respondent (Oba Akanbi) filed an application of stay of proceeding yesterday afternoon, so, I am of the opinion that he is not ready to move any application today.

Meanwhile, the court made an order on 25 November, 2016 and up till now the order has not been complied with. The application asking for a stay of proceeding cannot stay the order already made.

The order of the court is meant to be obeyed. The non-appearance of the first respondent in this matter is a flagrant disobedient of the order of the court”.

Counsel to Oba Akanbi, Mr Olayide Yekeen, explained that his client submitted the notice of preliminary objection, challenging the jurisdiction of the court to hear the case on November 15 and that by careful perusal of the State Magistrate Law, Section 19:1, the court could not entertain the matter.

According to him, “it is the threshold of all cases that whenever the issue of jurisdiction is raised, it is to be taken first. On the issue of jurisdiction and the competence of the case, the respondent has the right to be heard first before any enquiry can be made in the matter”.

In his ruling, Magistrate Aluko stated that he agreed with the respondent’s counsel that the issue of jurisdiction must be treated first.

On the order of the court made on November 25, 2016, the order remained. I hereby issue a bench warrant against the first respondent while further proceeding on the matter is adjourned to December 27, 2016,” he told the court.

    Involvement in “Yahoo Yahoo” scam

Oba Adeoye had approached the Magistrate Court accusing the Oluwo of Iwo of concealing some facts about his past to the state government when he was installed as a first class monarch about a year ago.

Oluwo-Oke in a 33-paragraph affidavit said Oba Akanbi’s character did not befit a person of his status and calibre as he was used to carrying armed thugs, miscreants and hoodlums around to harass, intimidate, molest and attack persons whom he perceived as his enemies.

He further alleged that Oba Akanbi forged his name to obtain travelling documents to the United States where he was jailed in New York City and deported to Nigeria in year 2000.

He added that Oba Akanbi later travelled out with his real name to Canada in 2001 and became a Canadian citizen but was also arrested in Toronto and was in jail between 2006 and 2007.

These facts were concealed for the state government which appointed and installed him as the Oluwo of Iwo,” the suit read.

He also accused him of presently making money through the internet fraud otherwise known as “Yahoo Yahoo” and was using his palace as a cover-up.

However, Oba Akanbi reacted to these allegations in a 13 paragraph affidavits through the Aremo of Iwo land, Mr Adelani Akanbi, describing the application filed against the Oluwo of Iwo by Oba Adeoye as “scandalous, vexations and designed to embarrass, blackmail and ridicule the monarch in the view of right thinking members of the society”.
