According to Ugozor, “We feel strongly that the Chief Executive Officer of the Innoson Group of Companies, Dr Innocent Chukwuma who is doing well in automobile manufacturing industry in Africa and beyond, hence should be encouraged with our support to establish a university in his name.

“The proposed name is Innoson University of Technology.

“We also considered Prince Arthur Eze as one of those who have the capacity to establish a university in Anambra State to be named Arthur Eze University of Management and Legal Studies.

“You can even hold us accountable the way we want to hold governments accountable. We want to live by example.

“We know the mindset and thinking pattern of personalities we have chosen to work with and we know they will always do anything that can promote Anambra State. When we might have started the projects, in the next four to five years, the State will not be the same.

I had no altercation with Obasanjo – Obi of Onitsha counters presidency

The Obi of Onitsha, Nnaemeka Achebe has countered the presidency, saying there was no time he had an altercation with former Presiden Olusegun Obasanjo.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports this is contained in a statement released on Tuesday by Chinyelugo Osita Anionwu, Chief of Staff to the Ime Obi Onicha.

Recall that Garba Shehu, presidential spokesman in a statement on Monday criticised Obasanjo for criticising the present administration under President Muhammadu Buhari.

Shehu also said Obasanjo deceived the south-east during the flag-off for the construction of the Second Niger Bridge, adding that the Obi of Onitsha had some altercation with the former president.

“Obasanjo laid the sod for the bridge in his first term as elected President and work never started. When he sought re-election for his second term in office, he returned to the site to turn the sod for the bridge the second time.

“When the Obi of Onitsha, forthright and scholarly, reminded him that he had done this in the past, Obasanjo told the foremost Southeast traditional ruler that he was a liar, in the full presence of the Chiefs and Oracles in his palace,” Shehu stated.

However, in the statement on Tuesday, the Obi of Onitsha said he wasn’t involved in any sod-turning ceremony for the bridge during Obasanjo’s first tenure.

The statement reads: “The attention of Ime Obi Onicha(The Palace) has been drawn to a State House Press Release of January 2, 2023 by Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to the President (Media & Publicity), titled MORALLY SQUALID OBASANJO ATTACKS LEADERS OUT OF FRUSTRATION.

“His Majesty, Nnaemeka Achebe, CFR, mni, Obi of Onitsha, by his position as traditional and natural ruler, should normally not engage publicly in high level discourse on affairs of State between two of our highly respected national leaders, President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR and former President Olusegun Obasanjo, GCFR.

“However, the Palace deems it absolutely necessary to ensure that public statements relating to our monarch are factually correct. Accordingly, the Palace would like to state categorically that His Majesty was never involved in any sod turning ceremony for the second River Niger Bridge during the first tenure of President Obasanjo as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and, therefore, could not have engaged in any altercation with the then President as stated in the above press release.

“The only involvement of His Majesty with President Obasanjo regarding the Second River Niger Bridge was at the very tail end of his second term as President during a low-keyed flag-off of the project when His Majesty prayed that the succeeding administration would construct the bridge expeditiously.

“Onitsha people will continue to express their utmost gratitude to President Buhari and his Government for successfully constructing the magnificent bridge.

“This is solely a statement of facts and nothing more or less”.

He noted that “the age of a man does not matter much” as to his achievements and contributions to humanity, adding: “The life of a man really begins at 70”.

“It is not the number of years you spend here on Earth, the most important thing is your positive contributions to humanity and God,” he said.

He prayed God to continue to guide the celebrant as he continues to make positive contributions to development and unity of the country.

Chief Ayo Adebanjo, Afenifere Leader, also extolled the uncommon trait of Nwodo to build bridges and friendships across the country.

Adebanjo said that Nwodo stood out for peace and equity of all parts and ethnicity of the country, adding he had done that by words and vivid actions.

“I congratulate him for his love for humanity and progress of everybody he comes across. We thank God for his life,” he said.

Earlier, in his homily, Most Rev. Geoffrey Onah, the Catholic Bishop of Nsukka Doicese, noted that God at no time did not limit the age of men, but “it is our sinful nature that brought us to this limitation”.

He said: “However, long years do not make life honourable but wisdom and fear of God.

“Age is about your investment in doing good, extending positive tidings to others and spreading your daily work towards the common good of all”.

Onah congratulated Nwodo and urged other leaders in the country to emulate his fine virtues of patients, meekness, accommodation of others and love for humanity.

In a vote of thanks, Nwodo thanked those who came from various parts of the country to grace the thanksgiving service, attend the colloquium and launch his book – “John Nnia Nwodo: Great Speeches”.

He said that his 70th birthday was coming at a time that the country was on a crossroad of change and value re-orientation towards national progress and true unity.

“I prayed that God, in His infinite mercy, would grant people who came from all over the country to rejoice with me, more years in their lives and positive developments too,” he said.

Highlights of the service were the special thanksgiving by the Nwodo family on behalf of Chief Nnia Nwodo and a Special Papal Blessing from Pope Francis on Nwodo.

  • My ascension to Onitsha traditional stool, journey of leadership change – Obi of Onitsha

My ascension to Onitsha traditional stool, journey of leadership change – Obi of Onitsha

The Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Achebe, said that his ascension to the throne some 20 years ago was to fast-forward an ancient traditional society to the 21st century.

Achebe, who is the Chairman of Anambra Traditional Council, said this in his address at the 2022 Onitsha Ofala Festival at the Ime-Obi palace on Saturday.

The traditional ruler, who was crowned on May 14, 2002, also used the occasion to celebrate his 20th anniversary on the throne.

Achebe described his reign as a journey of leadership change, noting that every society should anticipate and be at pace with change or be overtaken by it.

He said upon rising to the throne, he defined a personal ruling philosophy premised on peace and reconciliation, based on truth and transparency as a foundation for sustainable development.

According to him, drawing from this philosophy, “we have shaped a vision of re-inventing and re-positioning the Onicha Ado N’Idu kingdom”.

‘’We have applied modern management and leadership principles to traditional governance and the progressive evolution of the culture of our people,” he said.

The 81 years old traditional ruler said reinvention and repositioning strategy had helped to rebuild trust amongst the people, resolved disputes within and between kindreds, families and villages.

He said his rulership had redeveloped the palace as a symbol of change, redefinition of the community, promotion of self pride and the spirit of ‘Onichaness’.

Achebe said the vision was pursued through various initiatives, including youth development workshops, physical and virtual town hall meetings, think tank strategy sessions, engagements with Onicha indigenes outside of the homesteads, and annual conference.

He said under his reign, the Ofala festival had received endorsement by the Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation as a major Nigerian festival.

This, he said, had boosted plans of bringing the world to Onitsha to experience the rich cultural heritage, and enhance the growth and development of the community.

‘’I ascended the throne of Ezechima, the founding father of Onicha Ado N’Idu, 20 years ago on May 14, 2002, which coincidentally was also my 61st birthday.

‘’Thus, I have chosen to formally mark this milestone anniversary with the 2022 Ofala festival as the pedestal for thanksgiving and celebration. This milestone provides an opportunity for some reflection.

Achebe thanked Globacom and International Breweries, main sponsors of the festival, saying their relationship over the years with the organisations had contributed in no small measure to the growth and development of the Ofala.

He further thanked other donors and supporters, including NTDC, the Anambra Government, especially for the promise to ensure renewal of Onitsha Urban City through construction of roads and other infrastructure.

“Our visitors have come from far and near, within and outside the country, to felicitate with us, notwithstanding the travel challenges of the post COVID-19 era.

‘’We do not take your friendship for granted and look forward to opportunities to reciprocate your kind gesture. We pray for God’s protection as you journey back to your destinations.

‘’Our appreciation also goes to the various security agencies in the state who have collaborated tirelessly and effectively to ensure a hitch-free celebration,” he said.

  • IPOB has no right to stop election in Anambra – Obi of Onitsha

The Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe has warned the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) against carrying out its plans to disrupt the governorship election in Anambra State.

The monarch said IPOB had no right to stop election in Anambra State, insisting that the November 18 gubernatorial election must hold as scheduled by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the state.

Igwe Achebe stated this when the State leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo led by Chief Damian Okeke-Ogene visited him in his palace.

He said that the traditional institution in the state had endorsed the rotational of governorship slot to every zone, just like the town Union and Ohanaeze Ndigbo had done.

According to him, “The election is for us not for the entire country. You cannot have a referendum in one part of the country without carrying other parts of the country along and the government must support and sponsor it before it will be organized and not curving out some part of the country for the referendum. The election must hold and nobody or group of persons will stop it. Nobody should come to the state to cause unnecessary tension”.

Igwe Achebe, who doubles as the Chairman of Anambra State Traditional Ruler’s Council called on the Ndigbo in other parts of the state and country to invest at home in order to make Igbo land an economic hub in the county.

“Our people should come home to invest in industry, factory, build schools and hospitals that will be beneficial to our people. We need non-partisan strong institution to create a good environment for development.

“I commend the new Ohanaeze Ndigbo leadership both at the national and state level for their efforts within six months to unite Ndigbo,” Achebe stated.

In his remarks, the State Ohanaeze Chairman, Chief Okeke-Ogene said they visited the traditional ruler to show respect and to carry the traditional institution along in whatever they do as custodian of culture in Igbo land.

“There is nothing we will do without you. If there is any case that is beyond us, we will consult you for advice and possible resolution.

“Obi of Onitsha is the bridge between the people and the government and his throne is the falling point for Ndigbo, Onitsha culture is a complete and standard that other Igbo land emulates”, he said.
