    My admin will inaugurate, embark on quality projects for Deltans – Oborevwori +Photos

    Delta State Governor, Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori on Friday said his administration would ensure that only quality projects that meets specifications would be inaugurated for the use of the people.

    Oborevwori stated this while addressing journalists after inspection of some ongoing projects in Asaba and Okpanam areas of the capital territory.

    The projects inspected include the State High Court complex, Asaba; Phases I and II of the Flood Control Measures around Madonna College Road, Okpanam and Drainage Channel around Koka through Agbalusia-Ngele Street to Federal Technical College Asaba.

    According to him, we are considering the transition committee’s report and there are things that we can do for Deltans that they will appreciate and we are already working on those things.

    “In the transition committee’s report, there are short term, medium term and long term reports which we are also studying to see what we can do.

    “That is why I am going round to inspect projects. I know the ones that we can inaugurate. We can’t rush to inaugurate projects that are not properly executed.

    “We will inaugurate projects that are executed according to specification so that when people see such projects, they will indeed know that we have inaugurated well executed projects.”

    The Governor said a bigger drain should be constructed at the Winners Chapel area along Ibusa road to channel flood water around that corridor through Koka to the Federal Technical College.

    At the High Court Complex, the contractor assured that they would deliver the project July ending while the flood control measures along Madonna College Road would be delivered in two weeks.

    Oborevwori hails Eze Anaba on his emergence as NGE President

    Delta State Governor, Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori has congratulated Editor of Vanguard Media Limited, Mr. Eze Anaba, on his election as President of the Nigeria Guild of Editors (NGE).

    Anaba was elected at the 2023 National Biennial Convention of the Nigeria Guild of Editors (NGE), holding in Owerri, the Imo State capital.

    He succeeded Mr. Mustapha Isah of the Silverbird Group, whose tenure just ended. Anaba polled 250 votes to defeat his only opponent, Bolaji Adebiyi, formerly of Thisday Newspapers, who scored 81 votes.

    In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, in Asaba, Oborevwori congratulated Mr Anaba for a well-deserved victory, adding that with his contributions to the Guild as Social and Publicity Secretary, he was destined to clinch the coveted seat.

    The Governor lauded the theme of the Convention- “Post 2023 Election: Promoting Professionalism for Enhancement of Democracy and Good Governance,” saying it was apt and a good agenda setting for enhancement of democracy and good governance by National and Sub-National governments in the Country.

    Oborevwori noted that the entire members of the Guild deserved accolades for electing Mr Anaba as President due to his invaluable and significant contributions to the journalism profession.

    He further described Anaba as a role model who has proved his mettle in the profession, adding that his election was an inspiration to other journalists striving to make a name in the profession.

    The Governor said: “On behalf of the Government and people of Delta State, I congratulate you, Mr Eze Anaba, on your election as President of the Nigeria Guild of Editors (NGE).

    “It is my prayer that you will bring your robust wealth of experience in media management and huge contacts in the public and private sectors to bear, not only in advancing the course of the Guild, but the journalism profession in general”.

    NWFL: Oborevwori congratulates Delta Queens

    The Governor of Delta State, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori has congratulated Delta Queens for winning the Nigeria Women’s Football League, (NWFL) tournament dubbed Super 6.

    Delta Queens defeated Bayelsa Queens 2-1 to emerge winners of the Super 6 Competition on Sunday, inside the main bowl of the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba.

    By emerging champions of the Super 6 tournament, the Delta State girls have qualified to represent Nigeria in the forthcoming West African Football Union (WAFU) B Women’s CAF Champions League qualifiers.

    Oborevwori, who received the trophy from the victorious team on Sunday night, congratulated them for a hard fought victory.

    He said that Delta was renowned for sports and urged the team to prepare adequately for the continental tournament.

    In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Festus Ahon, the Governor described their brilliant performance at the championship as a manifestation of their super outing during the regular season where they topped group B with 26 points.

    Oborevwori attributed the team’s victory to hardwork, commitment and focus on the part of the management, the coaches and the players.

    He assured that the State Government will continue to support the team to win more laurels for the State and the Country, especially now that it has qualified to represent Nigeria at the West African Football Union (WAFU) Zone B play-off for the second CAF African Women’s Champions League.

    Oborevwori said: “I congratulate the organisers for putting up such a quality tournament, where our darling team Delta Queens emerged worthy champions.

    “This victory is particularly sweet for me because we are winning it after 11 years. Therefore, on behalf of the Government and people of Delta, I congratulate our dear Delta Queens for making us proud again.

    “As a State Government, we will continue to do everything possible to support the team to win more laurels for the State and Country as they represent Nigeria in the CAF Champions League via a WAFU qualifying window in August,” the Governor said.

    AUTO CRASH: Oborevwori condoles Diri, Bayelsans

    Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta has sent a condolence message to his Bayelsa counterpart, Senator Douye Diri on the death of some members of the State’s contingent to the Nigerian Women Football League final.

    The Women FA Championship Final is scheduled to take place at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba and the Bayelsa supporters’ team were on transit to Asaba when a bus in the entourage was involved in a fatal crash after Kwale, leading to the death of 4 members of the supporters club with 7 others sustaining injuries.

    Oborevwori in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Festus Ahon, condoled with the families of the deceased, the Government and people of Bayelsa on the unfortunate incident and prayed for quick healing and recovery of the injured.

    He said that the unfortunate incident was regrettable and had caused great pain to the bereaved families. He also, prayed for the souls of the departed.

    “A few hours ago, I was informed of the unfortunate accident involving members of the Bayelsa State supporters’ club on their way to Asaba for the 2022/2023 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Final taking place at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba.

    “It is with a deep sense of sorrow that I commiserate with the families of those that lost their lives in the fatal motor accident of Sunday, June 11, 2023, along Kwale Asaba Road.

    “Indeed, their deaths have caused a dark cloud and great sorrow for their families and Bayelsa State.

    “On behalf of the Government and people of Delta, I extend my heartfelt condolences to my brother Governor, Senator Douye Diri, the bereaved families and people of Bayelsa State on this sad incident.

    “Their untimely deaths have undoubtedly caused great pain and sorrow to their families. I pray for quick healing to the injured and that such tragedy will never occur again.

    “May God grant the families and loved ones the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss and may the souls of the departed rest in peace,” Oborevwori prayed.

    Oborevwori salutes Deltans, Nigerians on Democracy Day

    Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has felicitated with Deltans and Nigerians on this year’s Democracy Day today June 12.

    Oborevwori, in a goodwill message through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Festus Ahon in Asaba, said Deltans and Nigerians should celebrate this year’s democracy day in view of the smooth, peaceful, and successful transition from one civil administration to another.

    He stated that Nigeria’s democracy was waxing stronger, especially with improvements in the nation’s electoral laws, and urged citizens to take advantage of these reforms to choose leaders of their choice for the good governance of the nation.

    Oborevwori, said: “On behalf of my family, the government, and good people of Delta State, I congratulate Deltans and Nigerians on the commemoration of the 2023 Democracy Day, today June 12.

    “As we mark this year’s Democracy Day, it is important that we pay tribute to all those who risked their lives in the struggle to end military dictatorship and enthrone democracy in the country. They are the heroes of our democracy, and it is my prayer that their labour of sacrifice shall not be in vain.

    “We thank God that since the return of democracy in 1999 we have had 24 years of unbroken civil rule; Nigerians have enjoyed the opportunity to elect leaders of their choice for the purpose of good governance.

    “Here in Delta, we have been fortunate and privileged as a political party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to be given the mandate to administer the affairs of the state since 1999.

    “Successive administrations in the state have continued to improve on the infrastructural and human capital developments of our dear state and my administration will not be an exception because we have promised to do more to advance the state through our MORE Agenda.

    [OPINION] Oborevwori: One week in the saddle – By Nelson Egware

    On May 29, 2023, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Francis Orohwedor Oborevwori was sworn in as 5th elected Governor of Delta State. In keeping with his M.O.R.E agenda which means Meaningful Development; Opportunity for all; Realistic Reforms and Enhanced Peace and Security, Oborevwori has demonstrated that he was amply prepared to advance Delta state by hitting the ground running.

    So far, he has taken the gauntlet and immediately after the swearing-in ceremony, his predecessor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa came calling for the official handover which was preceded by the former praying for the incumbent to succeed in his new assignment.

    Immediately after his inauguration, Oborevwori named veteran Journalist and Vanguard Newspaper’s Delta Correspondent, Mr Festus Ahon as his Chief Press Secretary.

    Few days later, the Governor also approved the appointment of Dr Kingsley Emu, a Harvard trained economist and banker as Secretary to the State Government while a former Deputy Majority Leader of the State House Assembly, Hon. Prince Johnson Erijo as Chief of Staff and former Senator Representing Delta Central Senatorial District and erstwhile Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Senator Emmanuel Aguariavwodo was announced as Senior Political Adviser.

    While swearing-in the SSG and Senior Political Adviser, Oborevwori, restated his firm belief in the unity of the state and determination to resist all forms of sectionalism and nepotism in the discharge of his statutory responsibilities.

    Congratulating the appointees on their “well-deserved appointments”, the governor urged them to key into the M.O.R.E Agenda of his administration towards sustained infrastructural renewal, human capital development and social investment programmes.

    He reassured on his promise to run an all-inclusive government but stressed that “capacity and merit” would form the basis of political appointments under his watch. The governor warned political appointees in his administration against ethnic politics and sectionalism but to regard the entire state as their constituency by being fair and just to all citizens of the state.

    The following day he appointed son of late Senator Patrick Osakwe, Hon. Christopher Osakwe a former Chairman of Ndokwa West Local Government Council as Deputy Chief of Staff to the Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme. Oborevwori an apostle and crusader for equity and fairness has so far balanced his appointments as all the appointees cut across the three Senatorial Districts in the state.

    On his first official working day, the Governor met with the State Head of Service, Mr Reginald Bayoko, Permanent Secretaries and Heads of Extra Ministerial Departments and Agencies in the state where he unfolded his vision to the bureaucrats. The meeting which was held at the Exco Chambers, Government House, Asaba, was attended by the Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme.

    Addressing Government House correspondents shortly after the meeting, the state Head of Service (HOS), Mr. Reginald Bayoko said the meeting provided a veritable platform for the governor to formally outline his vision to the bureaucrats.

    He said the Governor charged the entire civil servants in the state to be diligent in the discharge of their duties. Bayoko said that as civil servants who are at the front line of delivering services and implementing the government’s agenda they should be up and doing in the discharge of their services to the state.

    Bayoko further said Governor Oborevwori recounted his promise to the electorate and told them the state needs to feel his impact as his “four-year first term had started counting, and on our part, we promised to give him the full support to deliver on his mandate to the citizens”.

    Oborevwori also attended a grand reception in honour of immediate past Governor of the state, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa on Saturday where he assured that his administration would be fair, Just and equitable to all parts of the state in terms of projects and appointments.

    He commended the Ika nation for organising the reception in honour of the former Governor and pledged to carry out his task as Governor with the fear of God.

    Oborevwori at the ceremony approved the naming of the Old Lagos-Asaba Road cutting across Ika North East and Ika South LGAs after Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa as requested by the Council Chairmen, Hon. Victor Ebonka and Hon. Sunny Tatabuzuogu.

    The Governor who returned home for the first time since becoming Governor, on Sunday, attended a church service at the Living Faith Church, Effurun where he thanked the Church for their prayers and support and promised to be a servant-leader with the fear of God in living up to the expectations of the electorates who trusted him with their votes.

    On his way back to Asaba on Monday morning, Governor Oborevwori seized the opportunity to carry out inspection works on the ongoing construction of the Sector ‘A’ and Sector ‘C’ of the Ughelli-Asaba dualisation project where he promised to continue funding ongoing projects to ensure their early completion.

    He said the road was very important to all Deltans because it leads to Asaba the state capital and the South East and urged the contractors to show more commitment as government was willing to meet their obligations as they fall due.

    The first one week of Governor Oborevwori has been remarkable and we look forward to greater days and years ahead of him as he soldiers on to deliver on his M.O.R.E Agenda aimed at Advancing Delta.

    Delta State Governor, Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori has congratulated a former Deputy Governor of the State, Chief Benjamin Elue, on his 83rd birth anniversary on June 6.

    He described Chief Elue, who was Deputy Governor to Chief James Ibori from 1999-2007, as a renowned teacher and politician, whose humility, dedication and loyalty had continued to inspire younger generation of politicians and leaders.

    He said that Chief Elue had remained loyal and committed to the unity and growth of the State and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

    In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Festus Ahon, in Asaba, the Governor joined family members, friends and associates in celebrating his remarkable life of service to the State and Country.

    He remarked that Elue was a loyal patriot and administrator, whose invaluable service, particularly to Delta and its citizens, would remain green.

    According to Oborevwori: “It is with great joy that I bring very warm felicitations to you on behalf of my family, the government and people of Delta as you clock 83 eventful and remarkable years on earth.

    “As a State, we have been blessed with very loyal and dedicated Deputy Governors of which you are one.

    “As a role model and outstanding patriot, you served our State and Country very passionately and contributed immensely to our party’s winning streak in your home local government area of Aniocha North and Delta North in general.

    “As you deservedly celebrate your 83rd birth anniversary, I join your family to thank Almighty God for His guidance, protection and provision for you and wish you many more fruitful years in the service of God and mankind.”

    Gov Oborevwori vows to continue funding legacy projects for prompt completion

    Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori on Monday reassured Deltans that his administration would continue funding ongoing projects across the state to ensure prompt completion.

    The State Governor gave the assurance while speaking to Journalists during inspection of the Sector ‘A’ and Sector ‘C’ of the Ughelli-Asaba road dualisation project.

    At Sector ‘A’ of the project in Emevor, he commended the contractor for the pace of work being done, adding that the project was very dear to Deltans.

    He urged the contractor to put in more effort to ensure early completion of the project.

    “The contractor has assured us that the 42.5km Sector A would be completed within 18 months as long as we continue paying their certificates regularly.

    “Let me reiterate that this road is very key to all of us in Delta State not only the Isoko people because this is the only road we use to access the state capital.

    “The road is very important to us and we want it completed as soon as possible and hence it’s the first inspection am carrying out since I assumed office as Governor.

    “This is the road I usually pass and I want you to keep to your promise. I appreciate the youths and people of Isoko for their support.

    “The Isoko people are peace loving people; they want the project all of us want the project too so its very key to us as a state and I will be coming from time to time to see the work being done.

    “We will continue to encourage the contractors to make sure they utilise the time to finish the dual carriageway before the rain starts.

    “If they have any certificate and we are satisfied with the work done we will pay as long as we have the money,” he stated.

    On the Sector C of the project at Ogwashi-Uku and Ibusa, the contractor promised to deliver substantial part of the project before the end of the year.

    Former Special Project Director of ‘A’ of the project, Chief Sunny Onuesoke expressed satisfaction with the work done by the contractor, saying they have so far done 17 percent of the project.

    Permanent Secretary Ministry of Works, Engr Fred Edafioghor who conducted the governor round the project, said the contractors were working day and night to meet deadlines.

    Oborevwori mourns Raymond Dokpesi

    Delta Governor, Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori has expressed sadness on the passing of media mogul and founder of DAAR Communications Plc, Chief Raymond Dokpesi.

    In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Festus Ahon, in Asaba, Oborevwori condoled with the family of the deceased, who he described as a consummate leader and elder statesman of repute.

    He said Dokpesi’s death was a huge loss to the media industry and the entire nation, especially at this period in our fledgling democracy.

    Oborevwori remarked that Dokpesi’s pioneering role in Nigeria’s broadcast industry was inspiring and would be missed by those whose lives he touched in various ways.

    He said the late septuagenarian was an outstanding patriot, a detrabilised Nigerian, doyen of private broadcast media in Nigeria, with his founding of RayPower Radio in 1994 and Africa Independent Television, AIT, in 1996.

    “It is with great sadness that I, my family, the government and people of Delta commiserate with the management of DAAR Communications Plc, the Dokpesi family of Aganebode in Edo State on the passing of a septuagenarian and elder statesman, High Chief Raymond Aleogho Dokpesi.

    The governor urged the media and the entire Dokpesi family to be consoled by the legacies left behind by the elder statesman.

    He assured them of the support and prayers of his family, the people and government of Delta at this trying period.

    “His death remains a great loss not just to his family but to the entire nation given his role as a successful media entrepreneur, businessman and exceptional statesman.

    “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and the entire nation that the soul of the deceased rest peacefully and may God grant his immediate family the fortitude to bear his demise,” he said.
