2023: Omo-Agege’s reign as SSG was saturated with parochialism, greed, excessive abuse of power -Oborevwori

…says NASS where he operates has been tagged the worst Assembly in Nig

…we are owing over $40bn courtesy of DSP’s docile Senate

The Delta State PDP Guber candidate, Sheriff Oborevwori has said the reign of the APC governorship candidate, Ovie Omo-Agege was enmeshed in parochialism, greed and excessive abuse of power.

The Delta State guber candidate made this assertion at the inauguration of the party’s campaign council on Thursday describing the NASS the APC guber candidate uses to boast as the worst in the political history of Nigeria.

    Hear him:

“The other day I listened to the brash and unguarded utterances of the APC governorship candidate in Delta State. I wish to remind Deltans that all well-meaning Nigerians agree that the current Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, of which Omo-Agege is the Deputy President, is the worst in the history of Nigeria.

“Courtesy of this toothless, docile, and rubber stamp Senate, Nigeria’s external debt portfolio currently stands at $40b as at the second quarter of this year. With hyperinflation, naira free fall, escalating food prices, widespread poverty, dilapidated state of federal roads, labour discontent, and general insecurity, let Omo-Agege tell Deltans what these monies were used for.

“Lest we forget, Omo-Agege’s tenure as Secretary to the Delta State Government was characterized by parochialism, greed, abuse of power, and undemocratic tendencies.

“The records are there for anybody who cares to check. Let me stop here for now but suffice it to say that Deltans do not need a despot like Omo-Agege, but a liberal, broadminded, and selfless leader like myself who stands for equity and fairness.

  • Delta 2023: 15 Senior Advocates to begin legal fireworks in Oborevwori v Edevbie at Supreme Court

Delta 2023: 15 Senior Advocates to begin legal fireworks in Oborevwori v Edevbie at Supreme Court

As the battle continues to rage on who becomes the PDP guber candidate, 15 legal luminaries, all SANs have been picked by Sheriff Oborevwori and David Edevbie to represent both contenders at the apex court.

The two combatants for the ticket, David Edevbie have moved their legal teams to the Apex Court to know who will fly the PDP’S flag at the gubernatorial poll.

Court processes sighted by TheNewsGuru.com, (TNG) indicated that while David Edevbie is urging the Supreme Court to uphold the judgment of the Federal High Court which declared him the PDP candidate, Sheriff Orohwedor on his part, is pleading with the Supreme Court to endorse the Court of Appeal which voided the decision of the high court.

About 15 Senior Advocates of Nigeria SANS have been assembled by the two parties to undertake the legal fireworks.

To prevent the suit from being statute barred, Justice Amina Augie appointed by the Chief Justice of Nigeria CJN, Olukayode Ariwoola to head the panel that would resolve the dispute, has fixed September 30 for the determination of the suit to a finality.

A Federal High Court in Abuja had earlier disqualified Sheriff, currently, the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly from the gubernatorial race on accounts of certificate forgery among other criminal allegations and replaced him with David Edevbie who came second at the PDP primary election.

The Court of Appeal in Abuja on August 29, however, reversed the decision of the Federal High Court and restored Sheriff as the flag bearer.

The appellate court had voided and set aside the judgment of the Federal High Court which on July 7, 2022, nullified his nomination on the grounds of certificate forgery and perjury.

Justice Peter Olabisi Ige who delivered the Court of Appeal decision had ruled that claims against the Speaker are criminal in nature and must be proved beyond reasonable doubts.

But Edevbie hinging his argument in legal documents sighted by TNG is insisting that there’s error in judgment on 18 grounds.

Insisting that the lower appellate Court erred in law occasioned a great miscarriage in justice to the appellant when the court held that “the heinous allegation of swearing to an affidavit, forging and faking of educational credentials made by the first respondent against the appellant cannot be established or proved by mere assertions and comparisons carried out by the first respondent in the supporting affidavit to his originating summons. The first respondent is under a bolden duty to produce the originals of the credentials or the certificates claimed by the appellant as belonging to him at the lower Court”.

  • Delta: Appeal Court verdict jubilation truncated as Edevbie heads to Supreme court over Oborevwori Guber candidature

Delta: Appeal Court verdict jubilation truncated as Edevbie heads to Supreme court over Oborevwori Guber candidature

The Appeal Court judgment affirming Sheriff Oborevwori as PDP candidate that made Deltans to jubilate has been truncated as David Edevbie Campaign Organisation on Wednesday in Asaba broke its silence on the judgment of the Court of Appeal and vowed to continue at the Supreme court.

At an enlarged meeting of the organisation and various focus and volunteer groups including the Delta Unity Group and Edevbie Movement’23 which had various PDP stalwarts and supporters from the 25 Local Government Areas of the state in attendance, the organisation assured its supporters that it would be heading to the Supreme Court and was confident to get justice.

Calling the meeting to order, Dr Karo Ilolo, former Delta State Commissioner for Urban Renewal, said the meeting was to reassure Deltans that hope was not lost in their dream for a modernised and more prosperous state under the leadership of David Edevbie.

Also addressing the crowd, the Director-General of the organisation, Chief Clement Ofuani, appealed to Edevbie supporters across the state to remain calm and positive, stressing that the organisation was already on its way to the Supreme Court.

“We received with shock the judgment of the Appellate Court, Abuja, upturning the judgment of the Federal High Court Abuja but we are not deterred to pursue the cause of integrity for our dear state.

“Olorogun David Edevbie’s competence and capacity is widely known by Deltans and they have been looking forward to the period for him to set the state on high developments grounds. It is not about him, it is about the good of the people and the movement is more than a revolution.”

In his remarks, former Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Peter Onwusanya, said the Appeal Court judgment has come only to spur Edevbie Delta Modernisation Movement to work harder.

He said no matter the ill-treatment Edevbie and his supporters were receiving from the State PDP, they still remain PDP members.

“Even though they are treating us like outsiders we will reclaim all our supporters through meetings like this. The intention at the PDP Governorship Primary was to make Edevbie come 3rd or 4th position but, as God would have it, with our supporters’ firm stand, we conquered their plan.”

Also speaking, Hon. Godwin Tuoyo told the supporters to consider the judgment of the Court of Appeal as a minor scratch.

“Our legal team would be directed to approach the Supreme Court against the judgment and we will surely pursue the matter to victory. We trust God and believe that victory will be ours eventually, for no matter how fast falsehood and injustice appear to travel, truth and justice will ultimately overtake both in the fullness of time,” Tuoyo assured

  • Edevbie vs Oborevwori: PDP in Court as appellant in Abuja

Edevbie vs Oborevwori: PDP in Court as appellant in Abuja

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, is currently at the Appeal Court in the Abuja Judicial Division to challenge Thursday, July 7, 2022, judgement of the Federal High Court, Abuja, which had declared Sheriff Oborevwori not qualified to be the party’s governorship flag bearer in the 2023 general elections on the grounds of discrepancies in his documents submitted to the Independent Electoral Commission, INEC.

TheNewsGuru.com, (TNG) recalls the presiding judge of the Federal High Court, Abuja, Justice Taiwo O. Taiwo in the judgment of July 7, 2022, ordered PDP and INEC to replace Oborevwori’s name with Olorogun David Edevbie, who came second in the party’s governorship primary held on Wednesday, May 25, 2022.

The PDP in Delta State had the same day in a statement by the state Publicity Secretary, Dr Ifeanyi Osuoza, said it hopes that the disqualification of its governorship candidate will be upturned on Appeal.

The PDP appeal with SUIT NO: FHC/ABJ/CS795/2022 and dated July 19, 2022, has David Edevbie, Oborevwori Sheriff Francis Orohwedor and the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) as first, second and third respondents respectively.

The Notice of Appeal reads in parts, “TAKE NOTICE that the APPELLANT being dissatisfied with the decision of the Federal High Court, sitting at Abuja contained in the Judgment of Honourable Justice Taiwo Taiwo delivered on the 7th day of July 2022 in SUIT NO: FHC/ABJ/CS/795/2022 between David Edevbie v OBOREVWORI SHERIFF FRANCIS OROHWEDOR & 2 ors, doth hereby appeal to the Court of Appeal, Abuja upon the grounds set out in paragraph 3 and will at the hearing of the appeal seek the reliefs as set out in paragraph 4 AND the APPELLANT further states that the names and addresses of the persons directly affected by the appeal are set out in paragraph 5.”

The PDP is appealing the Federal High Court judgement on the following three grounds:

    1. The learned Trial judge erred in law and thereby occasioned a miscarriage of justice when he assumed jurisdiction to entertain the suit.

    2. The Learned Trial judge erred in law when he shifted the burden of proof to the 2nd Respondent and stated that the 2nd Respondent should have called the issuing authorities to authenticate the certificates he submitted to his political party for nomination.

    3. The Learned Trial judge erred in law when he held that the suit was properly commenced by way of originating summons.

The party is therefore seeking the following reliefs, “An order allowing the appeal, dismissing the 1st Respondent’s amended originating summons and setting aside the judgment of the lower Court delivered on the 7th day of July, 2022 in SUIT NO: FHC/ABJ/CS/795/2022 between David Edevbie v OBOREVWORI SHERIFF FRANCIS OROHWEDOR & 2 ors.”

  • Delta Guber: Remain calm, I remain Delta PDP candidate – Oborevwori to supporters

Delta Guber: Remain calm, I remain Delta PDP candidate – Oborevwori to supporters

Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly and State PDP Governorship Candidate, Chief Sheriff Oborevwori, has assured his supporters that he remains the Delta state PDP guber candidate, urging them to remain calm as there was no cause for alarm

He made this known in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Dennis Otu.

According to the statement, “I wish to appeal to all my supporters, political associates and well wishers to remain calm and law-abiding over the judgement of the Federal Court.

”There is no need to panic, all is well. We will certainly appeal the judgement and so let us maintain the peace as all hope is not lost. All is well and it will end in praise to the Glory of God Almighty.

“The courts have always been part of our democratic experience and our confidence in the judiciary which is the last hope of the common man is unwaivering.

”So, as we embark on the appeal process, our supporters and indeed the people of the state should kindly note and rest assured that Sheriff Oborevwori remains the Gubernatorial flag bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State for the 2023 general Elections.

”The Sherrification Movement is well and alive and, by God’s grace, we shall overcome.

“Once again, I want to appreciate God Almighty for giving us victory at all times, and we will certainly not stop praying for more victories because the state is in God’s hands.

”Be reassured that God will take us to the Promised Land at the end of the day. We also wish to thank our teeming supporters for their steadfastness”, the Speaker added.

Recall that the Federal High Court, Abuja on Thursday disqualified Oborevwori from contesting the 2023 election.

Delivering judgement on a suit filed by Mr Olorogun Edevbie, Justice Taiwo Taiwo held that Oborevwori lacked the legal competence to participate in the election.

The judge held that the suit had merit and accordingly granted the reliefs sought by Edevbie against Oborevwori.

In the same vein, the State PDP confirmed that it has received the judgement from the Federal High Court.

A statement by the State Publicity Secretary PDP, Dr Ifeanyi Osuoza, said, ”we have received the judgement of an Abuja Federal High Court, against our Gubernatorial Candidate for the 2023 general elections, Chief Sheriff Oborevwori, on the grounds of discrepancies in his documents.

”We have already engaged our team of legal experts to critically study the ruling and explore grounds on which we can confidently approach the Court of Appeal.

”We want to, therefore, enjoin our teeming supporters and loyal party faithful to remain calm, unperturbed, and law-abiding.

”We assure them that we are quite confident in our conviction, that justice will be done and we will get judgement at the Appellate Court.”

  • Delta 2023: How crab mentality to bring down Oborevwori may rob PDP of another tenure

Delta 2023: How crab mentality to bring down Oborevwori may rob PDP of another tenure

Delta State political terrain is presently undergoing a surgical operation laced with the crab mentality that may sweep off the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP out of governance in 2023.

In a state parading the best political brains in Nigeria, it’s sad to note that out of sheer show of power and who is who in the political demography of the ‘Big Heart’ things may soon fall apart if the crab mentality is not eschewed for the common good of all Deltans.

The Delta State Speaker, Sheriff Oborevwori in the last two weeks has been dealt several blows from known and unknown political enemies particularly the enemies who want him nailed to the cross for daring to aspire beyond number three citizen of the state.

Iyorchia Ayu the PDP national chairman visited and sent a veiled message to all the political goliaths to shield their swords for a smooth transition but nay, the man was on his own as the bulldozers and caterpillars in the state launched a massive attack on the person of Sheriff.

Even after the zonal PDP screening committee had cleared him, they brought in certificate scandal to question his character.

Here’s is a man that is a two term speaker, how was he cleared to be a lawmaker in the first place if his certificates had k-leg as alleged by his political detractors?

How did the Department for State Security, DSS, PDP state and national screening panels clear him to contest?

Is it not out of place that the speaker of a state like Delta could be involved in such a scandal? This is a one million mark question begging for an answer from Delta Central kingmakers.

The political cold war between Asaba and kingmakers in the Delta Central may rubbish the long run of governance by the PDP and usher in the most hated party in Nigeria considering the fact that they’re in power.

Delta has been standing on a tripod reflecting the three senatorial districts courtesy of the fact that the three zones respected this formula.

Now that it has gone through the full circle why destroy it in the name of who must occupy Government House in Asaba come 2023.

Oborevwori may not be a saint but does he deserve these plethora of unsolicited attacks coming from within and outside PDP?

The ‘otoge’ mantra that rubbished the one man political machine in Kwara State may rear its ugly head in the Big Heart if this crab mentality designed to rubbish the Delta Speaker is not carefully handled.

The best governor Delta State ever produced in this political dispensation, Chief James Ibori had his hands properly burnt while in government in 2003 if not for the grace of God.

The same people he thought were behind him clandestinely sponsored those attacks but in this case where did Sheriff Oborevwori go wrong?

His loyalty to PDP has remained intact and even to the power brokers who hailed his emergence as speaker.

Political detractors and the pillars holding the the Delta State tripod should tread softly or ‘otoge’ mantra is just around the corner.

Count down to the 2023 governorship election in Delta State, the Forum of Urhobo Traditional Rulers, Monday, at the palace of Owhorode of Olomu Kingdom prayed for the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, to succeed in his governorship ambition.

The Speaker told the Urhobo royal fathers that he came for two things, to inform them of his intention to run for governor of the state and to also seek their royal blessings to succeed in the race, in order to consolidate and build on what Governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa has done in the State.

According to him, in 2017 when he emerged as Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, the traditional rulers prayed for him adding that their prayers have worked for him.

He also said that it is the efficacy of the prayers of the traditional rulers that encouraged him to seek their prayers to succeed in his quest to succeed governor Okowa in 2023, saying that; “Today, I have come to be refilled with your royal blessings and prayers”.

He said as a grassroot politician he was fully prepared to pilot the affairs of the state if elected the governor in 2023 noting that his achievements as the youngest Chairman of Osubi Community some years ago are there for all to see just as he added that as a Pan Deltan, his support base cuts across the 25 local government areas and promised to accord the traditional rulers institution its due respect.

Our traditional rulers have helped in maintaining peace and order in the State hence we are enjoying peace throughout the State. In 2023, if I am elected as the Governor, we will sustain the prevailing peace in the State and the current recognition being enjoyed by our traditional rulers will also be sustained. I am not here for a campaign, but to receive royal blessings from our monarchs”, the foremost governorship aspirant stated.

Responding on behalf of the Urhobo Traditional Rulers Forum, the Ovie of Agbon Kingdom, Ogurimerime-Ukori 1, said that Rt Hon Oborevwori is a prominent son of Urhoboland and that they are proud to identify with him.

Chairman of the Urhobo Traditional Rulers Forum, the Owhorode of Olomu Kingdom, prayed for the actualisation of the Governorship ambition of the Speaker.

One after the other, the seventeen Urhobo traditional rulers present prayed for the success of the Governorship ambition of the Speaker.
