… illegally detained a cab driver in Benin

… handcuffed and kept in his apartment’s balcony

A Trending video has emerged online showing the narrative of a cab driver in Edo State who was illegally ‘detained’ in an Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC officer who suddenly turned judge.

TheNewsGuru.com, (TNG) reports the vital video shows the victim, Daniel Uyi that was treated like a common criminal who ironically got his car hit from the rear by the all powerful EFCC officer, Mr Abifade Tunji.

All efforts to reach the EFCC spokesman to confirm whether this ‘judge’ was truly an officer of EFCC proved abortive.

Also, the FPRO, Frank Mbah has not responded to text message sent to him by TNG.

Uyi Daniel, who is a Cab Driver in Benin City, on Saturday, 15th of January 2022 around 9:30pm in the evening was driving along Ihama Road, GRA by Royal Marble Hotel, when suddenly, a white Toyota Venza (Lagos State Plate #: AAA-361GG) hit his Audi 80 car from behind (rear-ended) which caused Uyi’s back windscreen shattered.

The Toyota Venza front bumper was also damaged by the accident. Uyi came out of his vehicle (Audi 80) to see the level of damage as well as the owner of the White Toyota Venza. On seeing the damage on his Toyota Venza, Mr. Abifade Tunji gave Mr Uyi a sounding slap on his face as narrated by Uyi.

Mr Abifade ordered some suspected ‘yahoo boys’ who were present within the vicinity to beat up Mr Uyi not knowing Mr Abifade’s house was close by. Uyi was abducted, tortured and dehumanised by Mr Abifade and his friends who seem to be very loyal to him (Mr. Abifade). They hurled Mr Uyi into Abifade’s compound and handcuffed him to his burglary-proof like a common criminal till the following day at 5pm which was the 16th of January 2022, that was after Uyi’s father had paid the sum of N30,000 (thirty thousand naira only) as ransom to secure the release of his son.

Abifade’s younger brother brought out a knife to stab Uyi but he was resisted by their neighbours. Uyi’s phone was confiscated thereby preventing Uyi from reaching his family, until the next day before his phone was given back to him to contact his family which prompted Uyi’s father to arrived Mr Abifade’s resident. At a point Mr Abifade threatened to shoot at Uyi with his gun which made his neighbours to back off finally.

Abifade Tunji who later introduced himself as an EFCC official serving in the Benin zonal office asked Mr Daniel, Uyi’s father to fix his damaged Toyota Venza. Mr Daniel on sighting his son handcuffed to a burglary-proof, he had to go sought for money to release his son from Mr Abifade’s private detention facility.

Mr Uyi Daniel Audi 80 car is still in Abifade’s compound on the ground that Mr Uyi will fix his car first. Efforts made by Mr Abifade’s neighbours to ensure that Mr Uyi Audi 80 is released back to him proved abortive as Mr Abifade threaten to use his service gun on anyone who will try to interfere with the situation, out of fear they all went into their various apartments.

Nigerians should call Abifade’s mobile number and asked him questions -08060088379.

Uyi who later went to Aideyan Police Divisional Headquarters to lodge a formal complaint, but was told to write a formal petition to the Commissioner of Police or the AIG Zone 5 Benin, as the DCO was quoted saying “the matter pass us”.

Mr Abifade took matters into his hands by circumventing the justice system and taking matters into his own hands. A Motor Vehicle Accident shouldn’t lead to KIDNAPPING/ABDUCTION! This is Gross Abuse of power. This is total disregard for Law. This is an act of wickedness. Mr Abifade should be brought to book and relieved of his duties at EFCC Benin Zonal Office.

Police dismiss officer who killed five, injured four for ‘no justifiable reasons’ in Enugu

The Enugu State Police Command on Friday said it has dismissed an Inspector, Edem Ebong, found culpable of shooting and killing five persons, as well as the injury of four others for no justifiable reasons.

The police also approved the prosecution of the former Inspector for murder.

The shooting incident is said to have happened on June 20 at Golf Estate, Enugu.

Ebong had been attached to Special Protection Unit (SPU) Base 9 Umuahia at the time.

“The Enugu State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in-charge of Zone 13, Ukpo-Dunukofia Anambra State, AIG Muri Umar Musa, LLB, BL, has approved the recommended punishment of dismissal from the Nigeria Police Force and prosecution of Inspector Edem Ebong, hitherto attached to Special Protection Unit (SPU) Base 9 Umuahia, for the offence of murder,” a statement signed by police spokesperson, Daniel Ndukwe, said.

“The approval is sequel to the Command’s conclusion of disciplinary trial and thorough investigation launched into the case of alleged shooting and killing of five persons, as well as the injury of four others for no justifiable reasons, by the Police Inspector, at Golf Estate Enugu, on 20/06/2021.

Police dismiss officer who shot teenager to death in Lagos, court orders his remand

A Chief Magistrate Court in the Yaba area of Lagos has ordered the 30-day remand of a dismissed police sergeant, Samuel Phillips, pending the legal advice of the State’s Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP)

Sergeant Samuel Philips, who has been dismissed from the police force following the conclusion of his orderly room trial, was brought before Chief Magistrate Adeola Adedayo on Friday on a one-count charge for the alleged murder of an 18-year old lady, Monsurat Ojuade.

Monsurat was said to have been hit by a stray bullet on September 11 while the police were on criminal raid investigations in the Ijeshatedo area of Lagos. She died on her way to the hospital.

The one count charge said that Sergeant Samuel Philips at about 11.30 pm at 53, Mogaji Street Ijeshatedo, unlawfully released gunshots into the building which hit Monsurat on her two thighs and led to her death.

At the brief proceedings, the magistrate granted the application made by the prosecutor for the remand of the defendant for thirty days, pending the advice of the Directorate of Public Prosecution.

This is because the magistrate court lacks the jurisdiction to hear a murder charge and the DPP is to recommend that the murder trial be conducted at the State High Court.

Further hearings were adjourned to October 25.

After the proceedings, Counsel to the Ojuade family, Israel Mbaebie, asked the police to change its “stray bullet” narrative as to how the deceased died.

He said “the bullet that killed Monsurat Ojuade was not a stray bullet but a case of premeditated murder on the part of the killer police”.

The lawyer also frowned at the failure of the police to make public the findings of its orderly room trial.

“Our clients frown at this disrespectful and lackadaisical attitude of the police and also wonder how it has been easier for them to organise an orderly room trial of the so called killer police without making public their findings till date and now, arraignment without making public the full identity of the culprit as earlier demanded by our clients,” he said.

Man caught masturbating in Lagos commercial vehicle not an officer – Police

The Lagos State Police Command has said the man allegedly caught in a viral video masturbating in a commercial vehicle on March 13 is not a policeman.

The man was videoed by a lady who made the video to go viral.

CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Police Relations Officer (PPRO), Lagos State Command, gave the clarification on Wednesday in Lagos.

He said that the man simply identified as Mr Matthew, who assaulted the lady, one Olajumoke Okeyemi, for correcting his actions and act of sexual harassment in a public vehicle, was a driver.

According to him, he is employed by GTC Laundry Services, situated on Channels TV Road, Isheri, Lagos, and only impersonated a policeman during the “drama’’ in the video.

Mr Matthew was in a commercial bus from OPIC Estate Isheri to Mowe with the lady when the suspect resorted to verbal abuse and attempted to physically assault the lady.

He was angry at the lady for recording his criminal and indecent act on her phone.

CSP Adejobi said the police, in collaboration with the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team, have started investigation into the matter and intensified efforts to arrest the suspect.

“Incidentally, the suspect has also been identified by some other women who had similar experiences with him in previous years and on the same route.

“The concerned women have made series of comments on the social media which will assist the police in their investigation.

“The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Hakeem Odumosu has condemned such inhuman, immoral and criminal act of Mr Matthew.

“Mathew’s careless and unguided utterances had dragged the name of the Nigeria Police Force in the mud, the commissioner has said,’’ the police spokesman stated.

He added that CP Odumosu warned that Mathew’s act constituted an offence under the law and would not be tolerated.

“The Commissioner of Police has ordered the Gender Unit of the Command to expedite action on the case, arrest the suspect and commence proper investigation so as to maintain sanity in the society,’’ Adejobi added.

Army arrests officer, girlfriend supplying arms, uniforms to bandits in Zamfara

The Zamfara State Government has confirmed the arrest of an Army officer and his girlfriend for aiding banditry in the state.

The officer is accused of supplying arms, military uniforms, and other items to the bandits.

Authorities in the state say the arrest further confirms the position of the state Governor Bello Matawalle, that until the security structure in the state is reviewed, banditry and kidnapping will continue to strive.

The government is worried that some security operatives deployed to protect the lives and properties of residents are now aiding banditry which is worsening the situation.

“Another issue of topical importance is the recent arrest by the Military of an Army officer and his girlfriend who are engaged in assisting bandits with Military uniforms and ammunition in active connivance with other saboteurs.

“While the state government awaits the action the military will take on this matter and make an official statement, the development has further proved the position of Governor Bello Mohammed that until bad eggs and saboteurs among those fighting banditry are cleared, we may not record the desired success in the fight.

“Let me use this medium to salute the courage and patriotism of the individuals who came forward with information that led to the arrest of these traitors,” a government communique partly read.
