Abiodun Inherits N202billion Debt On Road Projects From Amosun

Ogun State Commissioner for Works, Engr. Ade Akinsanya, has disclosed that the present administration inherited a debt of N202 billion on road projects alone from the administration of Senator Ibikunle Amosun.

Akinsanya who stated this in Abeokuta at the weekend, however, stated that Governor Dapo Abiodun has approved phased payment of the debt.

According to Akinsanya, the governor has also approved payment of compensation to the owners of houses demolished for road projects across the state by Amosun’s administration.

He said the governor approved the payment to alleviate the sufferings of the house owners, saying that the payment will also be in phases.

Amosun embarked on the massive demolition of properties across the state in his desire to expand some roads to as much as 8-lane without paying compensation to the affected owners.

However, the desire turned out to be a double jeopardy as many of the roads were abandoned midway while others did not take off at all.

Akinsanya while shedding more light on the development explained that the massive demolitions carried out by Amosun’s administration was unnecessary.

He said that it ended up compounding the problems being faced by the present government.

According to him, the state government now has billions of compensation claims to contend with in addition to looking for another huge sums of money to complete the abandoned roads projects.

The commissioner said the state government has decided that no house will be demolished again for road project in any part of the state.

He stated that house will only be demolished where necessary and unavoidable.

Adesanya revealed that Amosun administration had earmarked some houses for demolition preparatory to the rehabilitation of Kemta-Somorin road in Abeokuta.

“The project is nearing completion now without any demolition carried out.

“Our road design and construction is such that we try to avoid demolition.

“Our road design and construction is such that we try to avoid demolition.

”It is actually not necessary to demolish while constructing roads, unless it is actually unavoidable,” he said.

The Commissioner also disclosed that most of the bridges constructed by Amosun were a waste of resources.

“The same thing applies to bridge construction. Most of the bridges constructed by that regime were a waste of resources.

“For instance, on the entire stretch of the 19- kilometre Atan-Lusada-Agbara road has only one bridge. And the length is short,” he said.

Meanwhile, Governor Abiodun has been praised for approving payment of compensation to the owners of demolished houses.

A resident of Agbado, who lost many shops to the demolition, Mr Abayomi Olanreway, commended Governor Abiodun for his magnanimity.

He berated the last administration for subjecting people to unnecessary hardship, even as he regretted that the road had been abandoned for more than six years now that the demolition took place.

Olanrewaju, who said he depended on his shops to survive before the demolition, also disclosed that the road was in a better condition before the bulldozer moved in for the reconstruction .

Another resident, Taiwo Adebari, also expressed gratitude to the state government, noting that the compensation will help in alleviating some of their sufferings.

Speaking about Amosun, the governorship candidate said the immediate past governor also did well while in power.

  • 2023: Governor Abiodun, Amosun fight dirty over elections

2023: Governor Abiodun, Amosun fight dirty over elections

The crisis that rocked the Ogun state All Progressive congress during the 2019 guber elections in the state has re-surfaced.

Governor Abiodun has attacked Senator Ibikunle Amosun following his comment that  Governor Dapo Abiodun did not win the 2019 governorship election in the state.

Trouble started when  Amosun and Abiodun, went up in arms with each other following the controversial primary election of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun.

At the time, the dissolved Adams Oshiomhole-led National Working Committee of the APC supported Abiodun and his group and this move angered Amosun and his anointed son Hon. Akinlade later joined Allied People’s Movement (APM).

Abiodun was declared the winner of the keenly contested election as Akinlade came second with less than 20,000 votes.

Meanwhile, in its reaction, some APC stalwarts, said Amosun, a chieftain of the APC, was suffering from  “political amnesia and out-of-office loneliness.”

APC Publicity Secretary, Tunde Oladunjoye via a statement released by the party and issued on Saturday said Amosun needs prayers.

He called on the general public to pray for Amosun, who is a serving Senator representing Ogun Central Senatorial District, over the comment that the governor got to the office through the rigging.

Amosun had on Friday shortly after receiving an award from the Abeokuta Club during its 50th anniversary held in Abeokuta, said Abiodun won through rigging in 2019 and that those who rigged the election for the governor had apologized to him

Reacting to the allegation, the APC described the ex-governors claim as “an after-lunch belching of a man suffering from political amnesia and loneliness.”

The statement read: “The attention of our party has been drawn to a statement reportedly credited to the immediate past governor of Ogun State and the chief promoter of the Allied Peoples Movement, His Excellency, Senator Ibikunle Amosun.

“The quoted statement was not only an insult to the psyche of the people of Ogun State but also a sad indication that the former governor is yet to purge himself of extreme arrogance and intolerance that were his trademarks, which earned him a suspension from our party, even as a sitting governor.

“The APC, therefore, calls on the general public, and particularly our esteemed members, to pity and pray for the former governor as he suffers from political amnesia, loneliness, and absolute lack of touch with reality.

“There is absolutely no truth in the specious utterance of the former governor who is still sulking from the electoral defeat of his surrogate party in 2019. Our party and candidate not only won fair and square but the victory of Prince Dapo Abiodun was also attested to by his co-contestants, many of whom later joined APC and are still in APC.

“It is on record that many of the then opposition figures like former deputy governor of Ogun State, Alhaja Salmat  Badru, the deputy governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr. Rueben Abati, and others served in the Economic Transition Committee chaired by Mr. Tunde Lemo, which was set up by Prince Dapo Abiodun, immediately after the elections.

“While confirming the victory of Governor Abiodun at the Saturday, March 9,  2019  election, the tribunal led by Justice Yusuf Halilu, in its judgment, stated that: “This petition does not only fail, it is destined to fail, it fails and hereby dismissed.”

“Not satisfied, the APM and its candidate went on appeal at the Court of Appeal, Ibadan, and later at the Supreme Court where they also lost. It is remarkable that in all the petition and court cases, the judgments were unanimously passed without any dissenting voice from the tribunal members and the judges at the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court,’’ the statement added.

Earlier, the Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, had taken a swipe at his predecessor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, saying, Ogun State is not anybody’s father’s inheritance”.

Abiodun said this on Saturday while speaking with newsmen shortly after the grand finale of the 50th anniversary of the Abeokuta Club.

Gov. Abiodun insists he wouldn’t join issues with Amosun, saying he wouldn’t allow anyone to deride him.

He declared that he would not be distracted by any person who has a problem with self-delusion.

Abiodun said he would rather focus on his mandate and not join issues with anyone who wants to play God.

Amosun had on Friday said the election that produced Governor Abiodun was fraudulent, vowing that he would ensure the removal of the governor come 2023.

He said “I will not be distracted by any person or persons who have a problem with self-delusion.

“I will not be distracted by any person who does not appreciate that Ogun State is not anybody’s father’s inheritance, we are all stakeholders in this commonwealth called Ogun state.

“I am not going to join issues with anyone that wants to play God; I will leave them to God, God can deal with whoever is challenging His authority and wanted to play God.”

  • Hope rises for Lagos – Abeokuta road as Ogun gov’t promises December completion

Hope rises for Lagos – Abeokuta road as Ogun gov’t promises December completion

The Ogun State Government has promised to complete the reconstruction of the Sango-Ota road on the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway by December.

The state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Waheed Odusile, and his counterpart in the ministry of works and infrastructure, Ade Akinsanya, said this while addressing journalists on Wednesday.

The government said the new road approval was prioritised due to its deplorable condition and challenges confronting motorists plying the route.

It refuted the allegation that its newly approved road project was to seek the people’s votes for the second-term ambition of the state Governor, Dapo Abiodun.

The government said the State Executive Council had on Monday approved the reconstruction of 32km Ijoko/Sango/Agbado road.

It stressed that the 32km road included Alagbole, Akute-Agbado crossing.

Akinsanya said contractors have already been mobilised to site.

He added that the construction of the road which connects Sango-Ijoko-Agbado-Akute-Alagbole and Yakoyo ends of Ojodu Berger of Lagos started in 2013 under Senator Ibikunle Amosun’s administration but the administration failed to complete it.

He added that the Mowe-Ofada Road, awarded in 2014 by past government and abandoned, would be reconstructed and expanded with drainage system.

Akinsanya said work will commence simultaneously on the 7.5km Singer to tollgate due to its deplorable condition and difficulty for motorists to ply.

He added that the 7.7km Toll Gate to Singer will be sectional rehabilitation while palliative will be done on other sections of the road to Brewery in Abeokuta.

Akinsanya explained that initial work will be done on the 8.5km Sango end and 1.5km on Lagos/Ogun end.

He said, “The road projects on the Lagos-Abeokuta road will be completed by December. We are taking it phase by phase. Others will be done .”

In his remarks, Odusile said the government decided to take up the road projects since the federal government refused to come to the rescue.

He added that, despite the dwindling income from the Federation Account Allocation Committee which he said affected the current administration’s physical projects, Governor Abiodun’s administration had continued to improve on the state’s Internally Generated Revenue.

He said, “The dwindling FAAC is taking a toll on our administration. Without inflicting pain on our people we have been increasing our target to N100bn.

“We are expecting FG’s reaction on Singer/ Tollgate. So, we are not waiting if help is not coming from Abuja, we have to help ourselves.

“The road we are focusing on now are FG roads that we have made efforts in the past to fix. More than four times, Dapo went to Abuja with the Minister of Works. It is not about second term, we have been doing roads.

“What government has been doing is to use FAAC to take care of salaries and recurrent expenditures and dedicate our IGR to capital expenditures.”

PVC Registration: Governor Abiodun declares Tuesday work-free day in Ogun state

The Ogun State Government has declared Tuesday, July 26 2022  as a work-free day to enable workers in the state to process and collect their permanent voters card (PVC) in the state.

Recall that INEC has said there’s no going back on its July 31st deadline for registration of voters card in the country saying they need time to adequately prepare for the elections starting next year in February.

In a statement issued in Abeokuta on Sunday by his Chief Press Secretary, Kunle Somorin, the Governor said the “one-day public holiday is to provide a window for all workers in the state, who have either lost their cards, not registered or who might need to travel to their wards, local government areas and constituencies to perfect their Permanent Voters Registration or transfer their cards, where necessary, to enable them to participate in the next general elections”.

“As an inclusive, participatory, and accountable government, the role of PVCs to the citizens cannot be overemphasized,” the statement added.

The Governor, therefore, urged all eligible adults to seize the opportunity of the holiday to go home to their different wards and constituencies to search for their Registered Voter Cards (PVCs), fill out the claims and objections forms and transfer the PVCs where necessary, the statement concluded.
