  • We are ready for genuine reconciliation – Kashamu

A leader of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ogun State who was also its gubernatorial candidate in the 2019 elections, Senator Buruji Kashamu, has stated that he is ready to reconcile and work with aggrieved members of the party in the state to ensure its success.

Kashamu, who stated this in a statement he released on Thursday in Lagos as a follow up to the earlier one released on April 14, 2020, called on all aggrieved members of the party to come together to forge a strong front.

According to him, “I have the mandate of all the altruistic leaders and elders of the party in Ogun State to declare once again that we are willing, ready and available for genuine reconciliation that will reposition our party and move it forward.

“Let me also publicly declare that I have no interest in any elective position, including the governorship and therefore have no reason to oppose the ambition of any member of the party aspiring to be governor of the state because I know that all powers belong to the Almighty Allah. My fight has always been against illegalities, injustice and imposition.”

The former legislator also reiterated his willingness to cooperate with national and zonal leaders of the party to strengthen the opposition party.

He said, “It should also be borne in mind that the PDP as well as our respectable national and zonal leaders belong to all of us. While trying to protect our various interests, we may have roughened feathers in the past. But, that does not mean we cannot bury the hatchet and move ahead. As it is said, ‘to err is human and to forgive is divine’. Henceforth, we will all be attending meetings called by the national and zonal leadership of our party in order to forge a more united front.”

Senator Kashamu in his reaction to the allegations leveled against him by the suspended state party chairman and secretary, Chief Bayo Dayo and Semiu Sodipo respectively, described the allegations as a product of confused minds.

He said having worked for the success of the party at the state, zonal and national levels, he could not now work against the interest of the party. He described those behind the allegations as men “ruled by the gods of their stomachs.”

According to him, the duo had lost their powers to speak on behalf of the party having been suspended by the proper organs of the party.

He said, “It is most ludicrous that Engr. Adebayo Dayo and Semiu Sodipo who are parading themselves as genuine members of the Ogun State PDP Executive Committee recently suspended each other at different times. While the Dayo-led State Exco suspended Sodipo on the 28th of February, 2020; Sodipo and former members of the State Exco suspended Dayo on the 29th of February, 2020. Dayo’s suspension was even ratified by the South West Zonal Committee of our great Party on the 3rd of March, 2020. Afterwards, Dayo’s fate was literally sealed on the 26th of March, 2020 when he was suspended by the authentic State Executive Committee of our party – the same State Exco members that sat with him to suspend Sodipo in the first instance. How then can he now turn round to deny the same Exco?

“Indeed, Dayo in a letter dated 3rd of March, 2020 to TRLP Law firm, listed the names of the authentic Ogun State PDP Executive Committee. He also attached several letters which showed former state officers who either resigned to contest elections or left for another party and were subsequently replaced. Some of the letters were jointly signed by Dayo and Sodipo while others were signed by either of them. All these facts have been deposed to in affidavits filed in Suit No. FHC/AB/CS/24/2020 in a case instituted by Dayo (in his capacity as the then Chairman) alongside other members of the State Executive Committee.

“For Dayo, Sodipo and their co-travellers to be claiming that they are the authentic State Exco shows the level of their desperation, deceit and fraudulent tendencies which are geared towards causing chaos in Ogun State. This has now become a matter for investigation by the relevant security agencies.”

Oyedepo apologises to Ogun Govt after defying ‘Coronavirus’ order

The Bishop and Founder of Winner Chapel, better known as Living Faith Church, has tendered his sincere apology to Ogun state government for defying the order that was given to curb the spread of Coronavirus that has hit the world.

On Thursday the state government had banned any gathering that is more than 50persons which includes:Jumat services by Muslims, Church services, party, club and so on. But Winners chapel defied the order [Read more here].

The apology letter read:”Coronavirus: Compliance with Government Order – Matters Arising.

“It has become necessary to issue this statement to clarify issues surrounding why Faith Tabernacle, the International Headquarters of Living Faith Church, Ota, in Ogun State, held its regular church service today, although with less than half of her regular worshippers.

There has been diverse responses varying from well-meaning concerns to uncharitable insinuations, misinterpretations, and unfounded allegations that the service was held in deliberate defiance of Ogun State Government ban on high-density gatherings, in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic. Nothing can be further from the truth.

For avoidance of doubt, as stakeholders and as a responsible organisation, Living Faith Church fully supports and encourages compliance with all initiatives of the government to combat the spread of this dreaded virus. However, information has to be strategically disseminated to the grassroot, noting that the Church is a family and not an industry, it is for this reason that enlightenment and sensitization from the Church platform is a most effective way to get people involved in playing their part in terms of prayers and intercessions and not just staying away from Church without knowing what to do.

Invariably, a press release from the office of the CAN President, through his Special Assistant on media on Saturday March 21, 2020, expressed the same position that members who may gather in church premises, many of whom may not be aware of this regulations should be allowed to worship for the purpose of enlightenment on the subject matter.

As we all know, the Church is made up of both literate and illiterate congregants; many are not in touch with any of the modern platforms of communication and this is what we did yesterday. Indeed, the service was devoted entirely to sensitizing and mobilizing members of the Church regarding the danger of this deadly virus and the need to comply with government directives.

The Bishop has since engaged Ogun State Government at the highest level to clarify this issue and any misgivings and reiterated the full support of the church for the State Government’s efforts to ensure public safety, towards curtailing the spread of this deadly virus. He appreciates the opportunity of direct engagement and the understanding of the government. Cooperation to safeguard public safety is not just a moral obligation or civic responsibility; the church also considers it a spiritual duty.

For instance, to show how law abiding our organisation is and in compliance with government directives, all our primary and secondary schools across the nation have been directed to close down. Also, our students at Landmark University, Omuaran, Kwara state were sent back home, while Covenant University Students, who are currently on vacation were instructed to stay back at home while awaiting further directives from government.

As a responsible and law abiding organization we wish to state that will ensure compliance with the government directives in all our churches across the state .

The Church shall continue to engage all necessary logistics to ensure compliance with government directives and continue to pray for speedy divine intervention to stem this deadly virus.

Amarachukwu is an experienced medical officer with a demonstrated history of working in the hospital and health care industry. “I want to thank God Almighty for intuition and knowledge and also for the safety of my teammates and I who worked together at the time. Special thanks to Lafarge, @NCDCgov @OGCovid19update @LSMOH @Fmohnigeria @IntlSOS for their prompt and professional response; Prof Moji Adeyeye DG NAFDAC @DGatNAFDAC @TundeIrukera (DG FCCPC) for your prayers, calls and support.

Meanwhile, Ogun State has congratulated the Italian index case on completion of his treatment and expressed pleasure that he will be reunited with his family and friends after being cleared of the COVID-19 disease.

“We congratulate the Italian index case on completion of his treatment and are pleased that he will be reunited with his family and friends after being cleared of the COVID-19 disease. There are valuable learnings to take from this case towards the successful management and limitation of transmission of the COVID-19 disease.

“Firstly, a heightened index of suspicion, amongst frontline health workers such as Dr. Allison. Particularly Private Healthcare providers because they are the first point of contact for sixty percent of the populace.

“Secondly, early diagnosis and prompt intervention by health personnel trained in the management of COVID-19 disease. Thirdly, strict self isolation and social distancing is effective in curtailing the spread of the disease as shown by the 40 contacts of the index case who were quarantined within designated facillities for 14days, until they were deemed fit to resume normal life.

“Lastly, but most significant is the collaborative efforts of a multi disciplinary/multi sectoral team comprising of the federal government, the state governments of Ogun and Lagos, partners, both international and local.

“Including the private sector, where latent resources, ranging from infrastructure to financial were tapped into to mount an appropriate response to COVID-19 disease. These all led to the success story of the first index case being discharged and integrated back into society within three weeks of diagnosis,” the State health ministry tweeted.

VIDEO: Why we are not wearing protective gears around COVID-19 patient – Hospital MD

Dr. Bowale Abimbola, Managing Director of Mainland General Hospital, Yaba, where the confirmed Nigerian case of Coronavirus (Covid-19) is being isolated, monitored, and treated has provided a reason why officials are not putting on protective gears around the centre.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Dr. Abimbola gave the reason on Sunday during a tour of the Lagos State owned Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH), where he said maintaining a distance of 2 meters away from the Covid-19 patient guarantees against the disease.

Recall that a faint picture of the Italian man who brought Coronavirus to Nigeria was unveiled on Saturday, with Prof Akin Abayomi and Dr Abimbola seen very close to the door leading into the ward where the Covid-19 patient is being kept.

In the photo, the Italian man could be seen faintly discussing with Abayomi from where he is isolated. Neither the Commissioner nor Dr. Abimbola was putting on a face mask or anything else from the clothes they were wearing. This sparked fears from some persons who felt officials who attend to the Covid-19 patient should be using some form of protective gears.

Abimbola explained that the position where himself and the State Commissioner for Health spoke with the index patient at the former place where he was kept, was a safe distance.

“As you can see me, I am not using any face mask because the distance between me and where the patient is, is more than 2 meters, so I cannot get infected.

“It is only when I am going to move into the ward or when I am going to move closer to the patient less than 2 meters I am going to put on my full protective gears.

“We know what we are doing, and there is no need for anybody to panic,” Dr. Abimbola said.

Speaking on why the Covid-19 patient was brought from Ogun State to Lagos, Prof. Abayomi said it was because the patient started his journey to Ogun from Lagos.

  • Ogun sets up committee to review appointment of 75 Obas by Amosun

Ogun sets up committee to review appointment of 75 Obas by Amosun

The Ogun State government, on Friday, set up a committee to review the appointment, installation and promotion of traditional rulers in the state, carried out by the out-gone governor, Ibikunle Amosun, in the twilight of his administration.

A total of 75 people were appointed and installed as coronet Obas by Amosun across the state and this has continued to elicit condemnation, even from the state’s House of Assembly, which passed a resolution suspending the installed monarchs on the grounds that their appointment didn’t follow due process.

Foremost businessman, kingmaker and politician, High Chief Alani Bankole, for instance, condemned Amosun’s installation of the 75 Obas in one swoop, describing the action as “pure madness.”

He said, that, a governor is not elected to disrupt the social and cultural system of a people, lamenting that even in a community where the residents were less than 200, Amosun, allegedly, appointed an Oba there, wondering the rationale behind such decision

Bankole, who is the father of the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole, noted that as a kingmaker, he has a duty to promote, protect and defend the sanctity and sacredness of the culture and traditions of Egba people, added that the incident was an abnormality.

However, in a statement by the newly appointed Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the Governor, Kunle Somorin, and made available to journalists, the state government stated that the Review Committee comprises.

His Royal Majesty Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, Olu of Ilaro and Paramount Ruler of Yewaland (chairman); His Royal Highness, Oba Yinusa Adekoya, the Dagburewe of Idowa; His Royal Highness, Oba Adewale Osiberu, the Elepe of Epe, Sagamu; High Chief Yinka Kufile, the Aro of Egbaland; Babajide Oyeti, former Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs; and Lanre Osota, the current Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, who will serve as the secretary to the committee.

The Committee’s Terms of Reference are to identify all the Obas and Chiefs whose appointments or promotions fall within the review period as contained in the recent resolution of the Ogun State House of Assembly and determine on a case-by-case basis, whether such appointment or promotion is in accordance with due process and extant laws of Ogun State.

Others are to identify and address any other issue that the committee may consider relevant to its assignments and make appropriate recommendations as deemed necessary to the government.
