    Police rescue 7-year-old girl in Ogun

    The Police Command in Ogun says it has rescued a seven-year-old girl, Mercy Akande, who was abducted recently at Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area (LGA) of the State.

    The Command’s spokesperson, SP Omolola Odutola, in a statement on Sunday in Ota said the girl was rescued at Ayetoro Town in Ogun.

    Odutola said the girl was rescued  by the Police anti-kidnapping team, led by the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo.

    “The suspects who abducted the innocent girl were also arrested in the course of rescuing the victim,” she said.

    The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) said the suspects, while holding the girl captive, had demanded for ransom from the parents. She however gave no further information on the suspects or the ransom being demanded.

    Governor Abiodun appoints Chief of Staff

    Governor  Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has appointed Dr Oluwatoyin Taiwo as his Chief of Staff.

    This is contained in a statement  issued by Mr Kayode Akinmade,  Special Adviser  on Media and Strategy to the Governor , in Abeokuta on Thursday.

    Prior to the appointment, Taiwo was the Deputy Chief of Staff (DCOS) to the governor.

    According to the statement, the Chief of Staff’s letter of appointment was handed over to him by Abiodun on Wednesday.

    ”The appointment, according to the letter, took effect from December 18. The governor, while congratulating the new Chief of Staff, described the appointment as well-deserved.

    ”Taiwo served as Commissioner for Culture and Tourism during the first term of Gov. Abiodun and was subsequently elevated to the position of Deputy Chief of Staff before his new role.

    ”He is an alumnus of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, where he obtained a B.Sc. in Statistics before pursuing further degrees up to Ph.D,” the statement said.

    BIZARRE: Suspected ritualist arrested with fresh human head

    The Police Command in Ogun says it has arrested one Taiwo Yemitan, a suspected ritualist found with a fresh human head and dismembered body parts of a female victim in Lafenwa area of Abeokuta.

    SP Omolola Odutola, the Command’s spokesperson, disclosed this in a statement in Abeokuta on Sunday.

    Odutola explained that the 45-year-old suspect was arrested around 1:40 a.m. on Sunday in his home behind Atinsola Petrol Station, Sanni, in Abeokuta.

    She disclosed that the police acted on a tip off from the state local security outfits, the Agbekoya and the vigilante operatives, before the suspect was arrested.

    “The suspect admitted to knowing the deceased identified as Darasimi, whom he lured to his residence with the intent to kill her.

    “He confessed to the murder, naming two other individuals as Kehinde Yemitan and one Kazeem, as accomplices in the criminal act. Their intention was to sell the victims head and other body parts,” he said.

    The police spokesperson explained that the dismembered body had been taken to the morgue at General Hospital, Ijaye, Abeokuta, for post-mortem

    She noted that efforts were underway to arrest the accomplices and to locate the victim’s relatives.

    Odutola added that the suspect would be transfered to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for a thorough investigation.

    She added that similar incident occured early in the year where a suspect, Azeez Adebayo, confessed to killing three ladies whom him and his accomplices lured through hook up arrangements.

    She warned young ladies to stop “hookup” and be “contented”, saying that high number of girls on “hookup” are slaughtered for rituals.

    She urged parents to look after their daughters and also give them thorough training in order not to fall victims.

    NDLEA busts 6-hectare hemp farmland in Ogun

    The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Ogun Command, has successfully destroyed a six-hectare hemp farmland in Alaka village, Ogun.

    The agency’s state commandant, Mr Tijani Rabe, revealed the tactical operation at a news conference organised in Abeokuta on Thursday while presenting the agency’s 2024 scorecard.

    Rabe said four persons were arrested and being investigated in connection with the hemp farming.

    He said the command also recorded other significant success stories in its efforts to curb the hard drug trade.

    According to him, the command arrested 675 drug offenders with 9.7 tons and 537.81 litres of liquid-base illicit drugs.

    He said the command’s special operation, “Operation Closed Gates”, arrested a person with a seizure of 100 bags of hemp, weighing 1.3 tons, in November.

    “Operation Closed Gates was launched as part of our Yuletide initiative and has been a resounding success.

    “It targeted drug merchants and syndicates, sealing all entry roads into the state,” he said.

    He said the command intensified sensitisation and advocacy initiatives by conducting lectures and programmes in schools, communities, and workplaces to educate the public about the dangers of drug abuse.

    “In the year under review, the command conducted 128 sensitisation programmes in institutions.

    “Through these sensitisation programmes, about 27,648 people were impacted,” he said.

    Rabe further said the agency secured 221 convictions and sentences to various terms of imprisonment against drug offenders.

    “Many cases are also at various stages of prosecution,” he said.

    Herbalist trainee nabbed for killing his new born baby in Ogun

    A herbalist trainee, Ifagbenga Tawio has been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command  for allegedly killing his 41-day-old son in the Keesi area of Adatan, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

    The tragic incident occurred after the baby’s mother, Raimat Wasilat, on Monday left him on a bed while washing clothes outside their home.

    Upon returning to the room, Wasilat raised the alarm, calling on her neighbours and the police after discovering her son’s throat had been slit.

    In a video that surfaced on social media on Sunday, Taiwo claimed he was under the influence of a spell when he committed the act.

    He further confessed to using a knife to kill his son but maintained that he was not in control of his actions at the time.

    He narrated that on the day of the incident, he had given his wife money to feed before heading out to his apprenticeship.

    Realizing he had forgotten some protective charms at home, he returned to retrieve them.

    The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident, adding that the wife had accused Taiwo of being responsible for their son’s death, prompting his arrest.

    Taiwo narrated in Yoruba (now translated), “I didn’t go home on Sunday due to engagements at work. I went home on Monday, and when I got home, I took my bath, gave my wife a feeding allowance, and left the house.

    “It was when I got to work that I realised I had left the charms I used for self-protection at home. So, I went home to pick them up. After I picked them up, I returned to work.

    “About an hour after I had returned to work, I just felt a breeze blow at me, and I began to feel uneasy. It was like something was circulating in my body, and I felt like committing a crime.”

    The Ogun State Government has assured fish farmers in the state of continuous support in improving their productivity, reducing cost of production and enhancing food sufficiency.

    The Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Bolu Owotomo gave the assurance on Friday, during his visit to Mojalake Fish Farm, in Ijebu East Local Government Area of the state.

    Owotomo said the support would equally improve the livelihood of farmers across the state.

    He said that government through the Ogun State Economic Transformation Project (OGSTEP) had been assisting registered fish farmers by providing them with subsidised fish feeds to reduce cost of production.

    According to him, we are ensuring that smallholder farmers through OGSTEP benefit from government in terms of input and fish farmers were given 30 percent discount on their fish feeds.

    In his remarks, the Chairman, House Committee on Agriculture, Waliu Owode, emphasised the need for farmers to take advantage of the various intervention programmes put in place by government to improve their lot.

    Speaking on behalf of the fish farmers, the Vice Chairman, Mojalake Fish Farm, Alhaji Razak Kehinde, commended the state government for extending the subsidised fish feed programme to their farm.

    He appealed for more support in the areas of equipment, accessible road, drainage system, security, among others.

    Regulators certify Ogun airport for commercial operations

    The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) and Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) have certified Gateway International Agro-Cargo Airport in Ogun State for commercial operations.

    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports the regulatory agencies in the aviation industry visited the Gateway International Agro-Cargo Airport located along the Ilisan-Iperu axis of Ogun State on Tuesday and commended the quality of facilities put in place as well as its level of completion and thereby certifying it for commercial operations.

    The agencies unanimously adjudged the airport as world-standard and a source of pride for Ogun State. According to the agencies, the critical infrastructure at the airport, which includes the Control Tower, Weather Monitoring Areas, Runway, Fire Service Stations, and the Apron, can rival any of its type around the world and remain one of the best in the West African corridor.

    Speaking during the visit, the Director of Aerodrome and Airspace Standards of NCAA, represented by Ango Mohammed, noted a significant improvement in the state of the facilities at the airport since his last visit, which is now at the level of any other towers in every standard airport around the globe.

    Mohammed said the quality of work carried out at the airport by the Ogun State Government should elicit accolades from all, and he expressed the delight of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority over the project.

    Also speaking, the representative of the Managing Director of NAMA, Tayo John, noted that the purpose of their visit to the airport was to inspect the facilities on-site to ascertain whether they are in strict compliance with the requirements for the provision of air traffic services and safety.

    Meanwhile, the Senior Project Manager of Craneburg, the construction company handling the project, Nicolas Mfarrej, said the airport is about 98% ready to take off fully and begin to serve the interests of the state.

    In the same vein, the Consultant on regulatory matters to the Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, Engineer Oluwole Adeyileka explained that the key players in the regulation and monitoring of facilities for full airport operations had come to assess the level of readiness of the state, adding that it was noteworthy that they had been impressed by what the state had put in place at the airport.

    In their separate remarks, the Manager of Gateway International Airport, Captain Dapo Olumide, and the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engineer Ade Akinsanya, said the ongoing assessment is the last hurdle to be crossed before the airport could go on full commercial operations, adding that the assessment given had shown that the state is set to take the lead in air traffic services in the country, describing it as a good outcome of great commitment and dedication to the realization of the dream of an airport that can meet world standards.

    Ogun N1.05trn 2025 budget passes second reading

    The Ogun State 2025 Appropriation Bill of N1.054 trillion, being the State 2025 budget, has scaled second reading at the State House of Assembly.

    The lawmakers, while deliberating on the bill during plenary in Abeokuta on Thursday, appreciated Gov. Dapo Abiodun’s decision to allocate appropriate percentage to some key sectors.

    The Chairman, House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Musefiu Lamidi (APC- Ado Odo Ota 11), said the 2025 appropriation bill prioritised education, health and infrastructure.

    Lamidi said that the budget would improve the economy of the state, and called for the speedy passage of the bill. He said that the implementation of the budget would portray the fact that the state was contributing to the wellbeing of the people.

    Corroborating, the Finance and Appropriation Committee Chairman, Bisi Oyedele (APC-Ipokia/Idiroko), observed that with the budget proposal, the state was close to internationally acceptable best practices. He lauded the amount allocated to the health sector.

    Other lawmakers, who contributed, also demanded the timely passage of the bill. They called on the executive to give priority to the rural areas, especially primary health centres in the budget. According to them, some sectors should not develop at the expense of others.

    The lawmakers added that emphasis should be made on budget appraisal and oversight functions in order to monitor the implementation and the success of the budget.

    Responding, the Speaker, Oludaisi Elemide (APC-Odeda) , lauded his colleagues for their robust contributions.

    He urged them to do justice to the bill during the budget defence process.

    Elemide, thereafter, committed the bill to the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation for further legislative actions.

    Governor Abiodun had on Wednesday, presented a budget of N1.054 trillion before the members of the State assembly.

    Teacher arrested after causing pupil to lose her eye in ogun

    Adeola Adeyemo, a student teacher at the Tai Solarin University of Education in Ijebu Ode has been arrested by the Ogun State command of the Nigeria Police Force over her connection with an incident that resulted in an 11-year-old pupil losing her right eye.

    The injured pupil, Alao Idera, is a sixth-grade student at Owiwi Nursery and Primary School located in the Obada Oko area of the state.

    Adeyemo, who is a final-year student was posted at the primary school, where she is currently completing her teaching practice at the school.

    Speaking about the incident, the police public relations officer, Omolola Odutola, explained that Adeyemo was holding the cane when a group of primary six pupils approached her, leading to the cane accidentally piercing the pupil’s right eye.

    The injured student was promptly taken to the Federal Medical Centre in Abeokuta, the state capital, where the damaged eye was surgically removed.

    “The child was immediately taken to the Federal Medical Centre in Abeokuta for treatment. Following this complaint, the teacher, Adeola Adeyemo, a 400-level student from Tai Solarin University in Ijebu Ode who was in teaching practice, was swiftly arrested and is currently being interrogated,” she said.

    She, however, clarified that the teacher did not flog the student, nor did the student do anything wrong.

    “It was simply a situation where the teacher, preparing for an end-of-year party, was holding a cane, as teachers often do.

    “However, when the student rushed toward her, the cane accidentally caused injury to the student’s eye. The 11-year and old primary six student underwent surgery at the Federal Medical Centre, where her right eye was removed.

    “After realising that the student’s right eye had been removed, the teacher attempted suicide but was quickly rushed to the hospital where she is currently stable,” the police spokesperson noted in the statement.

    The Police Command in Ogun has confirmed the alleged killing of one Gideon Ebukwe by unidentified armed men at Ok Winners Hotel, Igbosoro, Igode, Sagamu Local Government.

    The Command’s Spokesperson, SP Omolola Odutola, confirmed this in a statement, in Abeokuta on Tuesday.

    Odutola said that at 3.30 p.m., the CDC Chairman, Atobatele Igbosoro, reported an incident involving a suspected assassination.

    He said that a group of  five unidentified armed men arrived at Ok Winners Hotel in Igbosoro, and attacked a guest, Gideon Ebukwe, whose address was currently unknown.

    “At the time of the attack, the hotel staff, mostly women, were locked in another room, while the assailants proceeded directly to the guest’s room.

    “In an attempt to escape, the guest broke through the ceiling but was chased and shot dead, and his belongings were taken.

    “Upon receiving the information, the divisional police officer led detectives to the scene. No arrest has been made, and the body was transported to Jas Medical Mortuary in Ogijo,” she said.

    Odutola said that investigation had commenced to unravel the nature of the crime, if it was cult related.

    She said that the case would be transferred to the Police headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, for a more discreet investigation.
