Igbos should emulate Tinubu – Ohanaeze

Apex Igbo socio-political organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo worldwide, wants the South-East politicians to emulate the All Progressive Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The Secretary-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, said Tinubu dominates the political atmosphere of the South-West by working hard.

Isiguzoro pointed out that the APC presidential candidate is fair to other tribes.

In a statement he signed, Isiguzoro said the former Lagos State Governor introduced other tribes to mainstream politics.

The Ohanaeze chieftain lamented that many Igbo politicians have failed to make a meaningful impact like Tinubu has done in the South-West.

Isiguzoro appealed to the Igbo governors and elites to emulate such a feat by Tinubu in the South-East

Isiguzoro’s statement reads in part: “The political misfortunes of the South-East are traced to the individualistic selfishness of desperate APC governors in the South-East and some South-East senators who are de-marketing the zone, their actions promoted the insecurity and economic challenges of the zone.

“Ndigbo need the type of leaders like APC Presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who has worked hard for the South-West to regain control of mainstream politics. Tinubu was fair to all in Lagos as governor.

“He introduced all tribesmen to governance and empowered them, and it’s not late for South-East governors and leaders to emulate him. This is the best way to regain control of the political spectrum of the East, which is in the hands of non-state actors.”

  • 2023 Presidency: Ohaneze speaks on supporting Tinubu

The Lagos State chapter of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo socio-cultural organization, has denied reports making the rounds that it has dumped Labour party’s presidential candidate Peter Obi  to  start supporting the All Progressive Congress  (APC)’s presidential candidate Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The Lagos chapter of the Sunday Ossai, posited that the speculation was misleading and false, saying it was from the pit of hell.

Ossai blamed his predecessor, Solomon Aguene, for peddling such claims.

He stressed that nobody other than himself was authorized to speak on behalf of the group.

In a statement signed and released by Ossai, the Indigbo Ohaneze Lagos chapter president said some persons spoke with sentiment and claim to represent the body.

The statement read partly: “The attention of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has been drawn to the news making the rounds with a caption ‘Ohanaeze Ndigbo dumps Peter Obi, declares support for Tinubu’.

“The purveyor of the above remarks is Chief Solomon Aguene, the immediate past president of Ohanaeze, Lagos State Chapter.

“Ohanaeze, therefore, informs the general public that the current president of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Lagos State Chapter is Chief Sunday Ossai and only the Chapter President or an authorized officer of the current Lagos state executive has the right to speak on behalf of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Lagos State Chapter.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the misleading impression that ‘Ohanaeze dumps Obi’ is from the pit of hell and meant to serve private interest. Such a statement is hereby vehemently debunked.”

  • 2023: Ohaneze threatens APC, PDP over plans to defy zoning

2023: Ohaneze threatens APC, PDP over plans to defy zoning

The Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has dropped a hint it would boycott the 2023mpresidential elections if the two major political parties, the All Progressives Congress, (APC), and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, do not zone their tickets to the Southern region.

This is in reaction to the latest position that Arewa Consultative Forum, ACF, and the Northern Elders’ Forum, NEF that the presidency should be thrown open instead of limiting the space.

However, Ohanaeze, through its Secretary-General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro said in a statement made available to the public states that the abolition of the gentleman agreement on power rotation would come with dire consequences.

He said it was obvious that “the Northern Elders’ Forum has opted for absurdity in issues that will strengthen internal democracy in all political parties and in the country.”

According to him “any attempt by northern socio-cultural groups to arm-twist the two major political parties, through their sons who are National Chairmen of both the APC and the PDP, to derail the electoral process, will lead to revolts and boycott of the 2023 presidential election in the South, especially in the East.”

He claimed that the leadership of both political parties were under coercion from northern lobbyists and northern socio-cultural groups “to destroy the trust and confidence that bind Nigerians together through the rotational presidency between the North and the South.”

He said those making such moves ought to have learnt from the sad experiences of the North when they frustrated President Jonathan’s administration and installed Buhari in 2015.

“The aftermath of that betrayal is the worsening insecurity in the North,” Isiguzoro said.

He declared that, “we will encourage the Southern Governors and socio-cultural groups to mobilize our people and boycott the 2023 presidential election in the South, especially in the South-East if the Northern candidates emerge in APC and PDP.

“Whenever it gets to the turn of the Igbo, the narratives will always change against them.

“Whenever it’s the time for the Igbo to attain any position, there will be gang ups and clandestine networks to fuel crisis and disasters against them, but it won’t work this time. Igbos will surely survive all these political conspiracies against them.”

TheNewsGuru.com recalls that Ohaneze wants both major political parties to zone presidency to the South with preference to the Southeast region.

  • 2023 Elections: Ohaneze endorses Wike, Amaechi for presidency

2023 Elections: Ohaneze endorses Wike, Amaechi for presidency

Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo has endorsed the candidacy of Rotimi Amaechi and Nyesom Wike for 2023 presidency.

The group noted that it it would not be out of place for either Rotimi Amaechi or Nyesom Wike to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.

Ohaneze made their position known In a statement released by the group and signed by its Secretary-General Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro

Isiguzoro said the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide had broadened its search for a Nigerian President of Igbo extraction beyond the scope of the South-East zone to include “our own in the South-South Nigeria.”

According to him, “it became necessary for the Igbo to jettison artificial separation through boundary adjustment by the Military and then reunite with our kith and kin in the Niger-Delta region.”

He noted that “the Ohanaeze Ndigbo constitution written by our founding fathers, in their wisdom, enshrined that Anioma in Delta and Ikwerre in Rivers State are part of Igbo speaking States, as we have seen in Late Amb Raph Uwechue and late Col Joe Achuzia from Anioma in Delta State, who led Ohanaeze Ndigbo as President-General and Secretary-General, respectively, likewise Dim Uche Okwukwu from Ikwerre in Rivers State, who is the immediate past Secretary-General Ohanaeze Ndigbo”.

Isiguzoro added that, “Governors Okezie Ikpeazu and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi are still very much in the race as core igbo presidential hopefuls but reiterated that it’s still not out of place if the duo of Rotimi Amaechi and Nyesom Wike contest as Ikwerre under APC and PDP respectively.

“Moreover, Obio Akpo and Mbiama are part of Ikwerre, Igbo speaking part of Rivers State, and we are very committed to Igbo aspirations for the Presidency. You also know that the next leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo will come from Rivers State in 2025″.

Isiguzoro however, made it clear that Ohaneze hasn’t decided on who to support for the 2023 presidency.

Findings show that decision-making organ of Ohanaeze Ndigbo) will take decision on the 2023 election after the Presidential Primaries in the APC and the PDP.

Isiguzoro however noted that the outcome of the primaries will determine their next line of action but congratulates all presidential hopefuls.

“But right now, the Ohanaeze leadership congratulates all Igbo presidential hopefuls from the Southeast and the South-South. Nigeria will be better if any of these aspirants succeeds President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.

“We are calling for consensus among the contenders in the APC and the PDP to allow Igbo to be the consensus flag bearers in both leading political parties,” he further stated.

  • Igbo Presidency: Apologize to me, Oluwo replies Ohaneze

Igbo Presidency: Apologize to me, Oluwo replies Ohaneze

The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi has again accused the South-East of engaging in self-inflicted punishment in a united Nigeria.

The Iwo monarch admonished the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to drop their weapons and embrace peace and dialogue to achieve a United country.

Recall that the monarch had said in one of his statements that the Igbos cannot be trusted with the country’s presidency saying that there is instability in the South-East region; to which Ohaneze replied that the Monarch should stop meddling into politics and face his monarchical business.

Reacting to the post, the Iwo Monarch demanded that the Pan Igbo group (Ohaneze) should tender an apology to the throne of the Oluwo.

He accused Ohaneze of rushing to push out hasty and unguarded vituperations.

Citing that no monarch felt the pains of Ndigbo like he did, he asked the Ohanaeze Ndigbo to read more about his activities before jumping to the media.

The monarch, posited that his message was in the interest of the Igbos and not against them, saying the advice was mentioned in good spirit and oneness.

His words read, “I want to challenge the Igbos further to name a monarch outside the South-East who has ever dressed like an Igbo king? I remain an Oba and very committed to the unity and oneness of Nigeria. The Igbos should act more, talk more and do more on the unity of Nigeria instead of their vituperation against an unrepentant preacher and promoter of one Nigeria.

“I was the first monarch outside the South-East to visit Innoson manufacturing company owned by an Igbo man Innocent Chukwuma and the only Nigerian monarch using an Innoson vehicle, which I bought in January 2018. I went further to advertise and promote the made in Nigeria vehicle on highway billboards throughout the country on my personal expenses.”

Oba Akanbi, who lamented that he was surprised Ohanaeze Ndigbo could picture him as dividing Nigeria, added that he has cordial relationships with respected monarchs and personalities from the South-East.

He noted that he never meant Igbos can’t produce the president, explaining that there was need for them to re-strategize.

“I appeal to IPOB to sheath their sword and embrace one Nigeria. Our diversity is a strength. We must be smart with it and convert it to advantage. Achieving one Nigeria is a collective responsibility. I challenge Ohanaeze Ndigbo to take responsibility, appeal to IPOB and ESN to ceasefire. It is then that we will know we are all Nigerians in Nigeria and enjoy a better sense of belonging.

“The stakeholders in the zone should address their subjects to promote mutual coexistence. People should be allowed to go to work and transact business. Sit-at-home order will do more harm to people’s means of survival. Secession is an abstract concept in modern Nigeria,” he added.

The Iwo monarch had in an earlier statement declared that he cannot trust any Southeasterner to be the President of Nigeria.

The traditional ruler’s comment and Ohaneze’s counter-comment are made at a time when the Igbos are clamouring for an Igbo presidency.

  • Ohaneze replies Oluwo of Iwo over anti-Igbo comments

Ohaneze replies Oluwo of Iwo over anti-Igbo comments

The Igbo socio-cultural Organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo has reacted to comments made by the Oluwo Of Iwo Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi over igbo presidency.
Ohaneze admonished Oba Abdulrosheed to keep quiet and stop meddling into politics and sowing seeds of discord among the igbos.
The organisation advised the monarch to subject himself to some tutelage under more experienced cosmopolitan urbane intelligent monarchs like the Oni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi on how to be a traditional ruler.
It said, “One of the qualities of a well-adjusted traditional ruler is to be open minded towards all, especially people of other ethnic groups that may be found in his domain. One of the reasons the traditional rulers are insulated from partisan politics is to avoid an overdrive or the kind of overzealousness exhibited by Oba Akanbi in an effort to retire a gift from his candidate for the presidency in 2023. In promoting his preferred candidate, he has committed a fallacy of hasty generalisation when he stated that ‘the style by south easterners is barbaric’; the Igbo cannot be trusted with power, etc.”
Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, said this in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Chief Alex Ogbonnia on Tuesday, in reaction to Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi that the Igbo cannot be entrusted with the office of the Nigerian presidency.
Recall that oba Abdulrosheed had said that the style by the South easterners is barbaric, no Nigerian will feel secure in the hands of a leader whose ethnic attachment deprived other Nigerians of their rights.
Ogbonnia, however, said that the prejudice, innuendo and vitriolic group vilifications made against the entire Igbo nation by the monarch is “unreflective of a royal father whose primary duty is to sow seeds of unity in his kingdom and beyond.”
He added that Ohanaeze is civilized organization that respects culture and tradition and will not go into exchange of words with the Oluwo of Iwo.
He said, “The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide led by Professor George Obiozor is a civilized cultural organisation and by its prospectus, Ohanaeze has profound respect for culture and traditional rulers. We will therefore restrain from hoisting the monarch with his own petard, rather we advise that he should undergo some tutelage under some more experienced cosmopolitan urbane intelligent monarchs.”
Obiozor advised the Oluwo to use his throne to preach peace and unity rather than promoting disunity.
He added, “It is self-evident that Nigeria is a beleaguered country that urgently needs nation building; inflammatory and incendiary remarks from monarchs and the highly placed are antithetical to peace and unity of Nigeria. One of the qualities of a well-adjusted traditional ruler is to be open minded towards all, especially people of other ethnic groups that may be found in his domain.”
Ohanaeze posited that the Igbos are audacious and very hardworking, saying that nation building is their strength. It added that any claim saying otherwise about the igbos is incorrect.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the Igbo are adventurous nation builders; they are found in all parts of Nigeria and beyond. They make friends easily and also feel at home with their children in all parts of world. Records across the world indicate that the Igbo are branded in Midas touch. They quickly learn the language and culture of the host community with a view to contribute towards the socio-economic growth of the community. The people of other ethnic groups that had their National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) in Igbo land can always attest to the Igbo friendliness and hospitality during their service years; some ended up marrying Igbo.
“The wild. claims that the Igbo prevent people from the other parts of the country from acquiring properties in their domain or have an obnoxious policy of depriving other Nigerians of their rights cannot be substantiated. On the other hand, it is inconceivable that a group that builds modern houses in all parts of the country will prevent other ethnics from building in their homestead. One would think that the morbid fabrication of falsehood is a terrible mischief, only for the uninitiated”, Ohanaeze said.

  • 2023: Ohaneze insists on zoning presidency to South East

2023: Ohaneze insists on zoning presidency to South East

Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, an Igbo apex socio-cultural organisation has insisted that zoning the presidency to the South East will remain a fundamental ingredient for national unity.

This is contained in a release signed by Presidential General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Prof. George Obiozor and made available to newsmen in Owerri on Monday.

Obiozor, a former Nigerian Ambassador to the United States and Israel said that the current state of the nation underscored the need for a president of Igbo extraction.

According to him, wherever the next president of Nigeria comes from will send a strong message to Ndigbo (Igbo people).

“Nigeria will, above all, once again experience resurgence of nationalism with enthusiasm under a Nigerian President of Igbo extraction, with malice towards none, and charity to all,”.

He urged the nation’s political class to drop all fears and prejudices against Igbos and to forge a common front to move the nation forward.

The former ambassador also said that there was no better time for Nigerian politicians to embrace patriotism and political wisdom and jettison personal ambition.

He noted that the Igbos were blessed with a good number of capable, patriotic and credible personalities, who were eminently qualified to govern the country and meet the expectations of the citizenry through equity, justice and fairness.

Obiozor assured Nigerians that a president of Igbo extraction would bring into office, an amazing sense of peace and harmony to the country, ensure the imperative of national unity and commitment to good governance with dedication, decency and decorum.

“Igbos have been campaigning for their rights to leadership in Nigeria since 1960, hence the complaints of marginalisation in critical areas of politics and government,” he said.

The Ohaneze leader admonished political elites to take serious note of denial of justice to any group or groups in the history of Nigeria.

“We need a leader who can unite us as one nation and one destiny and not one Nigeria with disputed destinies as incrementally observed in our history in recent years.

“How many Nigerians are more popular than Ndigbo political elites within and outside Nigeria who have a high visibility and popularity in Nigeria and outside?

“Above all, it is part of the prejudice Ndigbo complain about that when the opportunity for leadership comes to them, our rivals and political adversaries always try to shift the goal post whenever Ndigbo are within the penalty box.

“In a country where you have a glaring statistics of power sharing history as Nigeria, there is absolutely no doubt that it is politically and morally defensible and justifiable for power to shift to the South and to the South-East,” he said.

President of Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide, Professor George Obiozor has said the Ndigbo nation of the political entity known as Nigeria is more than prepared to produce the next president of Nigeria in 2023.
TheNewsGuru.com, (TNG) reports this is coming barely 24hours after the Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Mohammed and other prominent Nigerians from the north had also declared that power must shift back to the north after President Muhammadu Buhari’s eight years administration eclipses in 2023.

Obiozor hinging his submission in a piece he personally signed with verifiable hard facts stated that:

“Today, if the truth must be told, the imperative of zoning the Presidency to the South East is an idea whose time has come.

“Certainly, Ndigbo are prepared and look forward to it as a national priority. It is also indeed reasonable and logical that before any other zone in the country goes for a Second Turn of occupying the office of the Presidency that Ndigbo should at least have their First Turn.

“As Ayo Adebanjo, the leader of Afenifere, the Apex Yoruba socio cultural group said “you talk about unity, that is where you will know where sincerity lies. If you are keen about unity, will there be a unit of the country that you will deprive Presidency? What does that mean for unity? ”

“We are talking about people who want Nigeria to stay together. How can anybody who loves this country talk of the Presidency coming to the South West in 2023?

“Why should you exclude the South East? Is South East not part of Nigeria? “South West has had, South South has had, the North has had, why exclude the South East if you want them to be there? That is the point”.

    PROF GEORGE OBIOZOR WROTE

IGBOS ARE PREPARED FOR THE 2023 PRESIDENCY.

Let it be known and clearly understood that Ndigbo are more prepared than the North when President Buhari was elected in 2015. By then Boko Haram had threatened to over run the North and the country, and the nation’s priority then was security and the issue of who will guarantee security to the country favoured Buhari, a former Head of state, a General e.t.c. The only preparation in the north was having available a man like Buhari presumed to have the capacity to confront the security challenges in the North and the rest of the country.

In the South West, how prepared were they in 1999 when President Obasanjo was elected? Infact, many people from the South West did not vote for him in that election. The people of the South West zone were deep in the crises of NADECO and displeasure over the June 12, 1993 election annulment. Here, notwithstanding, the Nigerian nation and the people through the two main national political parties zoned the Presidency to the South West in order to heal and reconcile the nation over the post 1993 election crisis.

Today, if the truth must be told, the imperative of zoning the Presidency to the South East is an idea whose time has come. Certainly, Ndigbo are prepared and look forward to it as a national priority. It is also indeed reasonable and logical that before any other zone in the country goes for a Second Turn of occupying the office of the Presidency that Ndigbo should at least have their First Turn.

As Ayo Adebanjo, the leader of Afenifere, the Apex Yoruba socio cultural group said “you talk about unity, that is where you will know where sincerity lies. If you are keen about unity, will there be a unit of the country that you will deprive Presidency? What does that mean for unity? ”

“We are talking about people who want Nigeria to stay together. How can anybody who loves this country talk of the Presidency coming to the South West in 2023? Why should you exclude the South East? Is South East not part of Nigeria? “South West has had, South South has had, the North has had, why exclude the South East if you want them to be there? That is the point”.

The General opinion of patriotic Nigerians or as Ahmadu Bello would put it those with ‘Conscience Nurtured by Truth’ the “Yoruba have had a fair share of power since 1999, with eight years of former president Olusegun Obasanjo and Professor Yemi Osibanjo who would be completing eight years as Vice President in 2023 under Buhari’s presidency. It will be unfair, unjust and unpatriotic as well as against the national spirit and interest to deny Ndigbo their own opportunity and pretend as if they do not exist as part of Nigerian nation.

As one commentator on Nigerian political affairs stated “The rest of the Country may not like the feistiness of the Igbo or any of their other idiosyncratic worldviews, but there is no excuse for denying them justice, fairness and equity”. And likewise, General Alabi Isama also said’ Let power shift end but Igbo must be President first. There is an Igbo proverb that says, ‘You don’t take the tortoise wife because he has a small thing’ such injustice cry to heaven and to God who created him. Ndigbo waited patiently and cooperatively for the Southern zones-South West and South South to have their opportunities to produce the country’s Presidents. Who really wants to push Ndigbo out of Nigeria by denying them a place in history, to produce the President of Nigeria.

Also no leader in history was ever indifferent about who would succeed him and President Buhari will not be an exception. Consequently, it is expected that Mr. President must have a critical role in the emergence of his own successor. To this effect, it is important for the President not to lose sight of political developments that may be injurious to national unity and corporate existence of the country. It is the national expectation that Mr. President continues his policy of national healing and reconciliation to a logical conclusion.

We should be mindful of those who want to pursue a politically motivated strategy that treats the South East as a hostile territory which is grossly wrong and unacceptable definition of the situation in the South East. Overwhelming majority of Ndigbo do not believe in secession or separatism from Nigeria. An Igbo President will “Focus on what can be done, instead of arguing over what is impossible”.

Indeed, there is no doubt that in the history of Nigeria from Nnamdi Azikiwe to the present, Ndigbo have demonstrated the highest virtues of patriotism and genuine nationalistic propensities. By history and character, what defines Ndigbo is friendliness and peaceful coexistence with others regardless of tribe, religion or race, Ndigbo are market people, travelers, entrepreneurs or business men. We know that the Devil in Nigerian politics is Power Sharing and an Igbo President will demonstrate to all Nigerians that power sharing can be done peacefully, justifiably with equity and fairness to all and his willingness to take last. The fear of Ndigbo by other ethnic groups is equally unjustified and a fiction of the imagination of those who create distorted image of Ndigbo. We seek solution and not a blame game.
As for those Igbos like, Fredrick Nwabufo who prefer to play the Manchurian complex as in his article in January 23, 2022 page 15, THISDAY, SUNDAY NEWSPAPER, implying that Ndigbo are not prepared, or drifting into one or another political parties should leave such criticisms to the enemies or rivals of Ndigbo.

Patriotic Nigerians at home and abroad who understand the fundamental issues in 2023 Presidency understand also the historic imperative of zoning the Presidency to the South East ,the last zone and only the zone left out in Southern Nigeria in the First Round of the Presidency across the country.
Consequently, indeed, it is politically wise and reasonable, morally justifiable and defensible and patriotically persuasive for all the parties to zone the Presidency to the South East.

For any zone in the South to aspire to hold the Presidency TWICE while South East has NOT had it even for ONCE, will be politically and morally unjustifiable and a national political blunder as well as a clear and open case of discrimination. Above all it smacks of reckless political adventurism to despise or ignore other peoples feelings or their fundamental rights as fellow citizens. No politician in Nigeria this time should have the illusion that Nigerians don’t know what is wrong or right, Nigerians are awake.

In Igbo land today, we have many competent personalities that can confront and solve Nigeria’s perennial and endemic socio- political problems and guarantee peaceful coexistence for all the citizens regardless of ethnicity, religion or race. We are ready and with an Igbo President, Nigeria and Nigerians will experience the true meaning of a Federation with justice, equity and fairness.

Show mercy on Nnamdi Kanu – Ohanaeze begs Buhari

Ohanaeze-Ndigbo has pleaded with President Muhammadu Buhari to show mercy to Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Prof George Obiozor, President-General of Ohanaeze-Ndigbo Worldwide made the plea on Friday while featuring on Arise TV.

Recall that President Buhari has in a recent interview insisted that Kanu’s trial is an opportunity for him to defend himself in court.

However, Obiozor pleaded with Buhari to stop the case before judgement is delivered, maintaining that the president has the power to end the case if he wants to.

“The president said that the matter is in the court and you cannot fault it. There is division of labour at the federal level where judiciary is independent.

So, he is technically right in thinking that the case is already on. We are asking for something different from the judiciary and we are asking for him to consider his prerogative of mercy, which is his own prerogative.

“Also, the idea of treating him with mercy as a son and citizen, to be considerate and compassionate. We are not talking about the judiciary.

“If he is taking the judiciary route then he is taking the right route logically, but then away from what we are talking. We are appealing for mercy and some form of amnesty,” Obiozor said.

Obiozor further said that IPOB does not speak for Ndigbo.

He also criticised Northerners who encourage their youths to make inciting comments.

He said, “Take it from me and it is the right statement: IPOB doesn’t speak for Igbo and that is the truth.

“To be very candid with you, the IPOB anger is an accumulated anger based on perceived or real injustice against Ndigbo for so long.

“We understand their anger and the anger of many youths across the country.

“However, the truth of the matter is that they are not mandated to speak for Ndigbo.

“The Northern groups that are making the statements are unfortunate because we don’t respond when their youths in their youthful exuberance make certain comments like they did before that all Igbo must leave the North.”

Kanu is expected to appear in court on Wednesday, January 19, 2022, for continuation of his trial.

Ohaneze Ndigbo commends Army for restoring security, peace in South East

Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has commended the Nigerian Army for its sacrifice in restoring security and peace in the South-East and nation at large.

The President-General of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Prof. George Obiozor, made the commendation on Wednesday, when the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 82 Division, Maj.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, visited him in his office in Enugu.

Obiozor, who expressed delight over the GOC’s visit to the Ohaneze House, said “without peace, nations cannot progress.

“And without the Armed Forces, we will have more problems. They are the pillars of Nigeria’s unity.”

The Ohanaeze leader also described the Nigerian Army as one of the best in Africa.

He urged the various armed forces to sustain their efforts toward ensuring peace and security across the country.

Responding, Lagbaja described Ohanaeze Ndigbo as a key stakeholder in managing the affairs within the division’s core Area of Responsibility (AOR).

The GOC said, “Nigerian Army is an instrument of the state that helps to ensure peace, security and stable economic activities.”

He said the army chose to partner all stakeholders to achieve its mandate.

He commended the leadership of Ohaneze Ndigbo for advising against the threat by the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra to use force to enforce its planned weekly sit-at-home order in the zone.

Lagbaja assured the residents of the zone of adequate security, saying the division would not tolerate any acts that would threaten the prevailing peace in the area.
