  • Anambra Guber: ‘Give me another chance, don’t let Ojukwu’s APGA die,’ Obiano woos electorate

Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State, yesterday, kicked off his re-election campaign in Awka by begging his people to give him another chance to sustain the good works he had already commenced in the state.

Obiano, who is the governorship candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), urged the people not to allow the only Igbo party left in their care by the late Biafran leader, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, to die.

Addressing a mammoth crowd that gathered at the Alex Ekwueme Square, the governor said for the good works he has on ground to be sustained, the people should give him another chance.

He said that he has in the past three and half years worked tirelessly to ensure that the condition, which he met on ground is improved and that given another chance, excellence would be a habit as he had already set the pace.

Obiano said APGA has in the past 11 years impacted the state positively, adding: “APGA was handed over to us by our late leader, Dim Odumegwu Ojukwu but the person it was handed over to by our leader ran away from the party. Ojukwu had given us the mandate to keep the light of the party shining, but the person jumped ship into an opposition party.

The governor who was flanked by APG National Chairman, Chief Victor Oye; his campaign Director-Governor, Chief Victor Umeh; his wife, Ebelechukwu; Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Hon. Rita Maduagwu, late Ojukwu’s wife, Bianca; former Anambra State governor, Dame Virgy Etiaba and former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, among other party faithful, while reeling out his achievements in the last three years on security, agriculture, employment and increase of workers’ salaries, observed that if past leaders had adopted the strategy of letting all the communities to choose their project for government to finance it, the state would have been more developed.

Earlier in his speech, Umeh, commended party faithful for turning out en mass to show support for the governor, saying that the large turnout is a clear testimony of what the people want. “It is left for the Federal Government and Nigeria to respect the wishes of Anambra people.

We are by this crowd putting other political parties on notice that we are the party to beat. APGA is the peoples’ choice and we won’t allow the torch handed over to us to go off in our hands.”

  • ‘My father, Buhari truly met, agreed on Nigeria’s unity,’ says Ojukwu’s son

Son of late Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, Emeka Ojukwu Jr, yesterday disowned Biafra agitators, vindicating President Muhammadu Buhari on his discussions with his late father on the Unity and indivisibility of the Nigerian nation.

Ojukwu who spoke in a release to reporters in Awka, Anambra State, noted that contrary to news around the internet by Biafra agitators that he had denied that his father met President Buhari, he never granted any media interview or posted any massage on social media that Buhari was wrong about his discussions with the late father.

This reaction is coming on the heels of stories making the rounds in the social media that he; Ojukwu Jr. replied Buhari’s statements as untrue which members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) have been describing as lies, demanding proof of the meeting with the late Ikemba of Nnewi with Mr. President.

Continuing Ojukwu Jr. noted that his late father actually held the said meeting with Buhari before his demise, adding that all that Buhari said in his Nationwide Broadcast were true.

He said, “It has been brought to my attention that there is an article making the rounds on social media attributed to me refuting the remarks of Mr. President concerning his relationship and discussions with my late father.

“Let me state the following categorically; firstly, that I made no such comments to anybody, and secondly that I am aware that His Excellency’s comments were indeed factual.

“I have noticed a disturbing trend recently of fake news being attributed to me on social media. I don’t know who is behind it or what their motivation might be but let me assure you that any time I feel the need to comment publicly on any matter, I will not do so via some anonymous email or anything of the like, rather be rest assured that there will be no ambiguity whatsoever as to whether the comments came from me.

“Let me lend my voice to those of the rest of my fellow countrymen and welcome Mr. President back home.”

Ojukwu Jr. urged members of the public to discountenance the stories in the social media or any media platform whatsoever credited to him that he accused Buhari of telling lies, warning that such malicious and damaging publications would not be taken lightly should it be repeated.

He also urged the President not to take such comments seriously as it smacks of gutter and yellow media reportage aimed at overheating the polity.

  • Provide evidence of your agreement with Ojukwu – IPOB

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has said President Muhammadu Buhari supported the break away of Western Sahara from Morocco and the self-determination demand of Palestinians but has condemned calls for the Independent State of Biafra.

The group described Buhari as a hypocrite.

IPOB said this in a statement in Awka, Anambra State, signed by IPOB’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful on Tuesday.

The attacks come hours after President Muhammadu Buhari had said Igbo leader, late Chukwuemeka Ojukwu agreed Nigeria must be united in a private meeting with him.

It asked Buhari to provide proof of where the agreement was made.

The group’s statement read,” Interestingly enough, there is a well-circulated video of President Buhari addressing the 70th summit of the United Nations General Assembly in New York where he stated unequivocally that no nation, no matter how small, should be denied the right to self-determination.

“Buhari in his characteristic hypocrisy failed to mention the fact that he is a staunch campaigner for self-determination for Palestine and Western Sahara. This same Buhari is the major … and backer of Western Sahara campaign to break away from Morocco.

“The question that must be answered is why it is possible for Buhari to champion the cause of self-determination for Muslims in Israel and Morocco but not so for Biafrans who are Judeo-Christians in the British-created Nigeria?”

The group added, “During his uninspiring nationwide broadcast littered with dictatorial proclamations, the only take away point in the entire turgid show of shame is that Nigeria must remain one; primarily because the dominant cabal which he represents does not want to lose their stranglehold on the finances of Nigeria.

“His hypocritical threat to deal with IPOB members, who are legitimately going about their self-determination efforts without recourse to violence, is indicative of his natural hatred for Christians and indigenous ethnic groups that make up Biafra. It is unfortunate that some people in this mere geographical expression called Nigeria are yet to understand that Biafra is an issue that is bigger than any man.

“We find it laughable that Major General Muhammadu Buhari will embark on the futile journey of deceiving the general public about his brief encounter with Ojukwu in 2003.

“President Muhammadu Buhari and other government functionaries, especially politicians, should stop deceiving themselves about the true nature of the raging Biafran agitation because they cannot provide any incontrovertible proof or verifiable evidence where the agreement was made between Buhari and Chief Ojukwu to keep Nigeria one. And they should stop calling Ojukwu’s name.”
