Why Polygamy is the best form of marriage for Africa – Okey Bakassi

Veteran Nollywood actor cum comedian, Okechukwu Anthony Onyegbule, popularly known as Okey Bakassi, has argued that polygamy is a more suitable form of marriage for Africans, citing the failure of monogamy in the region.

TheNewsGuru.com(TNG) reports that Bakassi while featuring recently on the Honest Bunch Podcast, stressed how unhappy many couples practicing monogamous marriage are.

He said, “Forget all the lip services that we pay to polygamy here. I still think that polygamy is the best form of marriage for Africa. Monogamy is not working.

“We are pretending. Now, what’s the difference between polygamy and monogamy? Polygamy says you can marry two people at the same time. Monogamy says you cannot marry them at the same time, you have to let one go. What if you don’t want to let one go?”

  • Kenneth Okonkwo lashes out at Okey Bakassi over claims made against Peter Obi’s political approach

Kenneth Okonkwo lashes out at Okey Bakassi over claims made against Peter Obi’s political approach

Actor-turned-politician Kenneth Okonkwo has lashed out at popular comedian and colleague, Okey Bakassi over the remark he made against him during a recent Interview.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports that Okonkwo recently withdrew his membership from Labour Party, stressing that the party presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi did not demonstrate the ability to build a strong platform capable of challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections.

Okonkwo in a statement shared on his social media pages also cited persistent internal crises within party and Obi’s failure to resolve them.

Reacting, Okey Bakassi noted that Kenneth wasn’t in the position to tell the former Anambra State Governor how to act, as he does not know politics more than Peter Obi.

Making illustrations in Nigerian politics, Okey Bakassi said, “I don’t think Kenneth Okonkwo is in a good position to make any comment about Peter Obi’s political method. Kenneth Okonkwo is my colleague, and he has never won any election. He is an actor, lawyer and engineer.

“Peter Obi has won election twice, he was a two-term governor of Anambra State, and he has survived trial and tribulation of the electoral process. He has proved himself as a fighter and people mobilizer, wining the two major states in Nigeria, Lagos and Abuja, so he does not have anything to prove to Kenneth.

“Forget Peter Obi’s soft voice he is as strong man. When you approach Nigerian politics, you do it with wisdom, and history will tell you, that Bola Ige and many others died and stories about Nigerian politics have not changed.”

Responding to Bakassi’ statement, Okonkwo, via his social media handle in a lenghty post on Saturday slammed Bakassi, questioning the comedian’s whereabouts while he (Kenneth), alongside others, were defending the mandate of LP after the 2023 election.

Sharing a video of Okey questioning whether Peter Obi has the capacity to defend the votes of Nigerians, Okonkwo reiterated his stands about Peter Obi’s political approach, saying he is interested in supporting politicians of integrity, who can defend the people’s votes, and not bothered about what opportunists like Okey Bakassi may say about it.

He wrote, “No wonder he was hiding under his mother’s bed during the campaign while we were risking our lives fighting for the votes, which were later on not defended.

“For this young man who was attracted to Nollywood after our sacrifice in starting Nollywood with the first movie I acted – Living in Bondage, where I acted as Andy Okeke to come out publicly to open his mouth to disrespect my name is really unfortunate. First of all, in all his movie life, I am not aware of any movie where he played the lead role that ever made a hit. It’s not unusual for failures to try to get traffic in their interviews by twisting facts about notable names. Little minds discuss people, and they do it dishonestly

“This hypocrite said I have not won any election. His intellectual laziness may not allow him to know that I have not contested any election at all. I aspired to contest elections, and when I saw the level of incompetence and corruption that were going on in our electoral system, I withdrew because even if I won, they would steal my mandate. I believed I didn’t have what it took to defend my mandate if people suffered to give me their votes, and I stepped aside and never contested.

“I practise what I preach. Seeing those abnormalities in our elections and not wanting to participate in them, I decided that my first step in my democratic journey is to fight injustice and corruption in our electoral system to enthrone a just and democratic society. This is why I am interested in supporting politicians of integrity who have the capacity to defend our votes. I repeat, no politician should contest if he can not defend our votes to avoid making people suffer in vain. We are dealing with corrupt election riggers who snatch mandates, and the winner must be ready to fight them through protest. I stand by my decisions and words, and I don’t care what hypocrites and opportunists like Okey Bakassi say. Pretenders and sycophants say and do the worst at the back.”

Nigerian comedian, Okey Bakassi has argued stand-up comedy is way tougher than all forms of acting.

In an interview with Hip Tv, the comic act said he finds stand-up comedy more tasking than acting because in acting, you get to edit and retake scripts if they aren’t good enough.

But noted it’s a whole different ball game with stand-up comedy where there are no rooms for mistakes.

  • Okey Bakassi reacts over alleged demand for sex-for-roles

Ace comedian and actor, Okechukwu Anthony Onyegbule, aka Okey Bakassi, has reacted to reports that he demands for sex with actresses in exchange for movie roles.

According to reports, Emeka Ike had granted an interview where he mentioned five filmmakers who were fond of demanding sex for movie roles and Okey Bakassi was mentioned.

However in a chat with Punch, the entertainer noted that he called Emeka Ike to confirm his claims and he denied saying it.

“The reports have been there for a while now; bloggers just went to dig it out. When I saw the news, I called him immediately and he denied it. The truth is that I heard it from people before I read it. Since I confronted the person that was alleged to have said it and he said he didn’t say it, I couldn’t hold anything against him. I guess my mistake at the time was not putting it on record.”

“I cannot remember the version of the article I read, but he was attacking the whole industry in it. Since he mentioned some names, people then attributed the rest of the story to those names. At a time, I spoke to my lawyers to take it up. You cannot substantiate things like that. If it were to be a woman, one could say she was speaking from her experience. Did anyone sleep with him?

If anyone can provide the recording of the interview where Emeka accused me of sleeping with actresses for movie roles, I would take him up on it. You know we live in an era where anyone can pick up anything and turn it into a story,” he said.
