Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is preparing to lose Jesse Lingard and Odion Ighalo next month.

The Daily Star reports Solskjaer was hoping to continue his search for a new centre-back and right-sided attacker.

Yet the report adds that Solskjaer could now target cover elsewhere with at least two stars set to leave next month.

Lingard is once again being tipped for the Old Trafford exit door having been linked with a move to Spurs in the summer.

And Ighalo’s stint back in the Premier League is set to end on January 31 ahead of his return to parent club Shanghai Shenhua in China.

Fans return will improve Man Utd home form – Solskjaer

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes the potential return of fans to Old Trafford could have an instant impact on home form.

United have won just one of their six home games in the Premier League this season, whereas their form on the road has been scintillating so far.

United released a statement in October claiming they could safely house 23,000 people with social distancing. And Solskjaer told the club’s website that he believes Old Trafford could house more than the 2,000 or 4,000 currently allowed, depending on the tier.

“Well, I think we want fans in safely and surely,” he said. “There must be a way we can get more and more fans in quickly. I know our club, we have looked at it many, many times and we’re ready to give a lot more people than the 2,000 or 4,000.

“So you know we’ve got a big capacity here. I don’t think there are very many that enjoy football more without fans. The quicker we get fans back in, the better the football will be.”

Solskjaer suggested fans will change the way teams approach games both home and away, believing there isn’t much difference between the two at the moment.

“Teams have a lot of respect for us in the way they’ve set up in the games,” he added.

“Home and away doesn’t really matter now. We’re going to have to look back at these stats and there are not going to be a lot of home teams having the better results. When we get fans in, the better advantage we’ll get from them – the extra passion and extra energy from them will definitely make a difference.”

I’ve spoken to Pogba about Raiola comments – Solskjaer

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admits he’s spoken to Paul Pogba about his agent Mino Raiola’s claims this week.

However, Solskjaer insists his conversations with Pogba are no different than they are with any other player.

“I speak to my players on a daily basis and Paul’s no different to anyone else,” Solskjaer said.

“We speak in small groups and for me what was disappointing this week was us going out of the Champions League.

“Players wanna go through in that and whatever anyone’s representatives say can’t really affect me.

“I’ve said what I wanted to say about that.”

Solskjaer plays down breaking Man Utd away win record

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is very proud of the record his team has set away from home in the Premier League.

The Red Devils came from behind to defeat Southampton 3-2 at St. Mary’s, making it their eighth win in a row away from home in the league.

While Solskjaer prefers to focus on the result at hand, he admitted it was pleasing to earn such a record.

He told the club’s website after the game: “It’s a difficult league of course, but I think the no crowds away from home has had an impact on that record.

“We don’t care about that one though, we just care about the three points today.

“The manner they came from the first kick to the last really, you can see the boys were focused, ready.

“We played well and created chances, we just couldn’t take them all, but we got what we deserved.”

Solskjaer admits Bruno Fernandes can’t play every game

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is aware of the need to rest star man Bruno Fernandes.

The Portuguese has gotten through an incredible amount of football since signing for the Red Devils in January.

He is nearly ever present in the starting lineup, even in games where others are rotated.

But Solskjaer knows he cannot risk burnout with the man who is carrying the offensive load for his team this season.

The Norweigna was asked about Fernandes and squad rotation in general ahead of Tuesday’s clash with Istanbul Basaksehir.

“Five subs isn’t a relief, but it gives you the chance to rest players earlier because if you want to make two subs at half-time, you’ve still got the chance to make subs and rest players,” Solskjaer said.

“It’s going to be a long season and it’s not just about this game, but it’s the whole accumulation of football.

“I like the five subs and I also like the size of the squads because the players feel they’re involved, especially during lockdown when sometimes you’re told you’re not in the squad you’ve got to stay at home, you’ve got no one to see.

“You can’t go and see a friend and see the game with your friend. It’s another [aspect of] mental welfare that we have to look after the players.

“The Champions League, I like it.

“Bruno… he’s not going to be able to play very single game, that’s for sure.

“When he only played one-and-a-half games for Portugal during the international break, I was very happy.”

Moyes warns under-fire Man Utd manager, Solskjaer

West Ham manager David Moyes has warned Ole Gunnar Solskjaer he will need to improve results soon if he is to remain at Old Trafford.

Scrutiny on Solskjaer has been building in the wake of back-to-back defeats to Arsenal and Istanbul Basaksehir.

Fomer United boss, Moyes was sacked eight months after replacing Alex Ferguson in 2013, with his final match a 2-0 defeat at Everton, the team Man Utd face next at Goodison Park on Saturday.

Moyes knows only too well that pressure on Solskjaer will continue to build if United do not start winning games.

“All managers are under pressure,” he said on Friday.

“At Manchester United there is more pressure than any club in the world. It comes with the job. We know what happens if you don’t win enough games.”

  • Cavani: What I and Solskjaer have discussed

Cavani: What I and Solskjaer have discussed

Manchester United signing Edinson Cavani says he and manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer are on the same page.

Cavani admits he’s spoken at length with Solskjaer about plans for the season.

He told the club’s website: “We spoke a bit about the mental side of things, and a little about how you can go about preparing for each game, about what it is to compete, about what is important within a group, and you could say that we agreed strongly on a lot of the things we spoke about and discussed. Things like self-sacrifice, commitment to your team-mates, creating a competitive spirit, and thinking of others, and competing altogether.

“All things that I really like and appreciate, I believe that when you pretty much agree on things like this and think in a similar way, I reckon it also makes you want to join a club even more, and to then give of your best, train hard and prepare yourself in the best way you can.

“I hope I can score plenty, and I’ll be working hard towards doing that. As I said earlier, I’m coming here with a real desire to work hard and to prepare, and to be available for my team-mates and to the manager for selection. I want to be able to take all that effort and hard work out onto the pitch, and together be able to achieve great things, big things with Manchester United. I’m so keen and excited to get playing and competing again, and God willing, I can score goals, which is pretty important for everybody and also for me, as a striker.”

  • Fernandes left angry with Solskjaer after defeat to Tottenham

Fernandes left angry with Solskjaer after defeat to Tottenham

Bruno Fernandes was left furious by Man Utd manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s decision to take him off at half-time during last Sunday’s 6-1 defeat against Tottenham.

According to The Athletic, Fernandes was among the most vocal players in the United dressing room during the break.

Solskjaer’s men were 4-1 down, having been reduced to 10 men, after Anthony Martial was shown a red card for shoving Erik Lamela.

Fernandes’s display of passion away from the cameras, did little to dissuade Solskjaer from taking the decision to haul off his most creative player.

The decision was a tactical one, given he felt he needed more legs in midfield, with the introduction of Fred and Scott McTominay.

Solskjaer was also said to feel that with Fernandes facing the prospect of three games in the space of a week with Portugal, it was the correct course of action to withdraw him from the fray at the expense of risking injury or the former Sporting Lisbon star losing his temper.
