    Arsenal has announced that Oleksandr Zinchenko will don the number 17 shirt for the upcoming season. Previously, this shirt was worn by Cedric Soares, who recently departed the club.

     

    Zinchenko expressed his excitement about the change on Arsenal’s website: “The number 17 holds a special significance for me. It’s the number I wore as a young player and have always requested to wear when playing for my country. With 17 now available since Cedric left, I asked if I could switch.     Arsenal attacker Bukayo Saka has sung the praises of former Manchester City pair Gabriel Jesus and Oleks Zinchenko.

    Saka and Zinchenko go head to head in Sunday’s Euro 2024 qualifier between England and Ukraine. Ahead of the game, Saka has spoken on the influence his team-mate has made at club level.

    He said: “Zinchenko has brought quality – but he’s brought so much more. You can see how he plays and how he controls the game. He’s an outstanding player.

    “He has great leadership qualities, so he’s really helping us on all fronts. They (Zinchenko and Gabriel Jesus) have brought that winning mentality to us as players who have been there and won the league.

    “In difficult moments they know how it feels, they can encourage us because we have a lot of young players. They really help us with the mental side of things.”

    Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta has revealed the position Oleksandr Zinchenko will play when he eventually signs for the club side.

    The gaffer confirmed that the club is in the final stages of signing the Ukrainian left full-back from Manchester City.

    Arteta made this known after defeating  Orlando City 3-1  in a pre-season game and said there were just a few formalities left.

    The Gunners boss, however, knows the two positions he intends to play Zinchenko in.

    When asked if Zinchenko is a left-back or midfielder, Arteta replied: “Both, he can play in both.

    “He was a natural no.10 early in his career and we converted him into a left-back which can do a lot of things we want.

    “That versatility is something that is going to be important for the team.”

    Arsenal and City have agreed to a £ 30 million fee for the Ukraine international, who will sign a contract until 2026 at the Emirates.

    Oleksandr Volodymyrovych Zinchenko is a Ukrainian professional footballer who plays as a defender or midfielder for Premier League club Manchester City and the Ukraine national team.

    Zinchenko began his career at Russian Premier League team Ufa before joining Manchester City in 2016 for a fee of around £1.7 million.
