    Joke Silva shares touching video to mark husband Olu Jacobs’ birthday

    Veteran Nollywood actress Joke Silva has taken to social media share a heartwarming tribute to her husband, Olu Jacobs, in celebration of his 82nd birthday.

    Joke, at wee hours on Thursday, shared a video on Instagram that captured her husband during his youthful days. The video also showed him admiring his house coat.

    Joke prayed for her husband that he would continue to enjoy good health.

    “82 just like that. Agba ko ni nira l’agbara Jesu…Happy birthday and have an amazing year ahead, me darling… Sir J of life.

    @_olujacobs (loving his customized house coat …thanks a mill @thegardentheatre Tosin Otudeko),” she wrote.

    It would be recalled that the veteran actor was rumoured dead on social media in June.

    The family, however released videos to debunk the rumour.

    In a 19-second video, Olu is seen getting his beard shaved while his son informs him about the rumour of his death. The actor appeared surprised about it.

    The son of the veteran actor, Soji Jacobs, who spoke to newsmen on the phone said, “The family is tired of this rumour that keeps recurring every year.”

    Top Nollywood stars have reacted to the false death rumours which dominated social media about veteran actor, Olu Jacobs.

    TheNewsGuru.com(TNG) reports that one Oba K Solo had sparked the rumor after alleging that the veteran, aged 82, had passed away.

    In response, the actor’s family debunked the news with a video of the veteran getting a haircut, after which assured the public that the much-loved veteran actor is alive.

    It is the third time in four years that the award-winning actor would be rumoured dead.

    Taking to their social media pages, the likes of Kate Henshaw, Nkechi Blessing, and Empress Njamah, Yul Edochie condemned the insensitive of those spreading the deadly rumor.

    Nkechi Blessing via her Instgram page questioned Nigerians who jump on false negative news, she wrote, “Person never kpai see speed wey una use break d news, if Dem never kee one blogger the rest no go get sense.Who do Nigerians this thing? God forbid!”.

    Empress Njamah slammed evil people spreading false news about another. She stated that such behavior is a disrespect to the family and to the actor.

    She wrote: “Height of disrespect to the family and to a legend. How evil can you be? Fear God ooh, my heart was pierced, just for clout and following ? Lets not use our own hands to bring curses upon ourselves.

    “Daddy OLU we love you and appreciate you now and always ,this is terrible and heartless ,shame on whoever started this nonsense

    “MAKE UNA FEAR GOD OHHHH, very toxic social media”.

    Kate Henshaw faulted the actions of Nigerians who shared false information, claiming veteran actor Olu Jacobs was dead. Describing it as all shades of wrong, Henshaw, who is also the Director of Communications for the Actors Guild of Nigeria, admonished those rumor peddlers to desist.

    She wrote: “HOW YOU PEOPLE PUT UP. RIP POSTS ABOUT SOMEONE WHO IS STILL ALIVE, YEAR IN YEAR OUT IS VERY SICKENING, TBH!!! You do this to this great man and his family ALL THE TIME!!
    It is all shades of wrong!! Stop for goodness sake!! UNCLE OLU JACOBS is ALIVE!!!”.

    Yul Edochie on the other hand penned a heartfelt note to veteran actor, Olu Jacobs following the death rumours that circulated about him.

    The controversial actor via his Instagram prayed for more life for the veteran as he asked God to give him more life, good health, joy, happiness and blessings.

    Yul who described olu Jacobs as one of the greatest actors in the continent of Africa, revealed that he learnt so much from him while working with him on set.

    He wrote: “More life to you Uncle @_olujacobs You remain one of the greatest actors in the continent of Africa. I learnt so much from you while working with you on set. You’re loved, respected and appreciated. May God give you more life, good health, joy, happiness and blessings. It would be a dream come true to have you on set again. Amen”.

    UPDATED: Joke Silva debunks Olu Jacobs death rumour

    Veteran Nollywood actress, Joke Silva has debunked rumours going round on social media that her husband, Olu Jacobs has passed away.

    According to PMNEWS, Joke Silver said “her husband is alive and doing just fine.”

    Recall that Jacobs, a multiple award-winning actor, has been battling dementia for some time.

    A close source to the family (name withheld), said on phone that the AGN President told him that he spoke with the wife today and they spoke for over one hour without any mention of such news.

    “Somebody who has lost a husband cannot be that chatty and Gail on phone,” the source said.

    Also, Betty Irabor, an associate of the family has also debunked the rumour.

    The final nail on the coffin of the rumour was a broadcast by Channels TV where they were seen speaking with the actor who said he is alive and in fact preparing to go to Ikoyi Club this evening.

    Joke Silva, the wife of veteran actor, Olu Jacobs, has spoken on the current health condition of her husband.

    It would be recalled that the veteran actress confirmed in a previous interview that her husband is battling dementia with Lewy body.

    She disclosed that her husband her been battling the ailment “for a couple of years” and “does not understand what is going on.

    In a recent interview with Mercy Johnson on her Youtube cooking show “Mercy’s Menu”, Joke Silva disclosed that her husband’s condition has had an effect on her, and how she has been able to cope with the management of his health.

    Joke Silva has disclosed that they have sort spiritual and orthodoxy help but all efforts to put him back in good condition have failed. She swiftly added that she has come to accept the new and difficult reality of her husband’s condition.

    In a statement on her Instagram story, Silva said that her husband is alive and doing well.

    “To all those who have decided to ignore our last warning regarding fake news kindly prepare for legal action,” the actress added.

    This is the second time the actress is debunking such rumours in months.

    In an Instastory post she shared, Joke disclosed that her husband is hale and hearty and is “enjoying himself as always in the comfort of his home”.

    TNG reports that Olu Jacobs turned 80 in July and a big birthday celebration was held for the veteran. Friends and Family came from far and wide to celebrate him and it was a lovely event.

    Google on Thursday highlighted the top trending personalities, music, movies, high-profile deaths as well as sports that trended in the first half of 2022.

    Mr Taiwo Kola-Ogunlade, Communications and Public Relations Manager, Google West Africa said in a statement that the first half of 2020 had been eventful with high-profile deaths, politics, and personalities among others.

    Kola-Ogunlade said that such trends and search were as a results of happenings and events of interest  that caught people’s  attention.

    He said the top three trending people in Nigeria in the first half of the year were Peter Obi, Putin and Bianca Ojukwu .

    The manager said that  Peter Obi is a Nigerian businessman and politician who served as the governor of Anambra  from 2006 to 2014.

    Kola-Ogunlade said that Obi is currently the Labour Party nominee for President of Nigeria in the 2023 presidential election.

    According to him, Vladimir Putin, Russia’s President also grabbed the attention of Nigerians in the first six months of 2022 as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine became topical across the globe.

    ‘’Bianca Ojukwu, the widow of late Biafran warlord, Chukuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu also led search interest by Nigerians when she slapped Ebelechukwu, the wife of immediate past governor of Anambra , Chief Willie Obiano.

    ‘’A second famous slap comes in at number five on the list of top trending people, after Will Smith slapped Chris Rock at the Oscars in March.

    ‘’AFCON 2022 topped the list of most searched moments between January and June, Senegal beat Egypt in the final match of the African Cup of Nation (AFCON) football competition to emerge winner,’’ he said.

    According to him, the ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU)  has seen the majority of Nigerian students in public tertiary institutions.

    The communication manager said that staying out of classes for five months was also a top moment that captured the interest of Nigerians online.

    He said that top of the list of notable deaths was the death of popular Nigerian Gospel singer, Osinachi Nwachukwu.

    The communication  officer said that blood sisters, a Nigerian series on Netflx starring Nancy Isime and Ini Dima-Okojie topped the list of top trending movies and TV Series by Nigerians from January to June 2022.

    Kola-Ogunlad  said that Olu Jacobs, the veteran Nollywood actor who recently celebrated his 80th birthday  led the list of top trending actors in Nigeria while Raheem Sterling’s journey from Manchester City to Chelsea FC led him to be the number one trending sports personality in Nigeria.

    Nollywood actress, Patience Ozokwor has given a side on who can replace veteran actor, Olu Jacobs in the movie industry.

    During the 80th birthday of Olu Jacobs held at the Glover Memorial Hall in Lagos on Sunday, Patience said she does not think anyone can replace her colleague.

    While appreciating the actor for his acting skills, she revealed that she misses him on set and his versatility to play any role.

    “I’m missing him on set, he can play an Igbo king, he can play a Yoruba king, in fact, I don’t think anybody can replace him,” she said.

    Buhari joins Nollywood in celebrating Olu Jacobs at 80

    President Muhammadu Buhari has joined Nollywood and professional actors, home and abroad in celebrating stage and screen icon, Olu Jacobs, on his 80th birthday on July 11.

    The president, in a congratulatory message by his spokesman, Mr Femi Adesina, on Sunday in Abuja, felicitated the Jacobs’ family, including the wife, also a renowned thespian, Joke Silva, and their friends on the auspicious occasion.

    According to him, the occasion calls for thanksgiving for God’s care, guidance and protection.

    Buhari affirmed the influence of the veteran actor on the film industry, setting a standard of professionalism that had attracted global recognition and awards.

    He said such award included the Lifetime Achievement Awards conferred on him in 2016 by African Movie Academy Awards.

    The president noted Jacobs’ ingenious ability to interpret roles, simplified complex issues and bringing messages to the understanding of both young and old, levelling cultural, ethnic and religious barriers to become a household name all over the country and beyond.

    Buhari also believed Jacobs’ natural tendency to counsel, inspire and instruct easily earned him the roles, while appreciating his foresight in winning many into the profession and guiding them to stardom.

    He prayed that the Almighty God would grant him better health, longer life and steadfastness in service to the arts, God, and humanity.

    As preparations are in top gear for the 80th birthday celebration of legendary Nigerian actor, Olu Jacobs, some Nollywood actors have started to pour encomiums on him.

    The actors, on Monday, took to their Instagram pages to celebrate Olu Jacobs, who will turn 80 on July 11, with the display of his recent picture.

    Also, Olu Jacobs’ wife, Joke Silva, shared an epic throwback photo of the legendary actor with a cheery caption anticipating his 80th birthday.

    She wrote: “Who has the foggiest idea who this handsome young man is…#80th  Birthday loading….

    Femi Adebayo wrote, “I celebrate a living legend of arts and entertainment on his 80th birthday.

    “Pa Olu Jacobs is a leading light for many of us thriving in the trade of creativity, it is our prayers that God continues to bless your household exceedingly.”

    Also, veteran actor, Jide Kosoko, said, “Happy birthday sir Olu Jacobs.”

    Similarly, actor Uzee Uzman, wrote,  “Old age is a blessing, grey hair is a rare privilege only few gets to enjoy.

    “Happy birthday to one of Nollywood finest, a living legend and an award winning actor, Daddy Olu Jacobs. May God continue to bless you with good health and wellness. I celebrate you Daddy.”

    Saheed Balogun said, “Happy birthday to our greatest legend, Daddy Olu Jacobs, we are really proud of you Daddy.”

    Actor Mustapha Sholagbade in his congratulatory message, wrote, “Happy 80th birthday sir, may God be pleased with your new age sir.

    Oludotun Jacobs, known professionally as Olu Jacobs, was born July 11 1942.  He is a Nigerian actor and film executive, who has starred in several British television series and international films.

    Jacobs has been hailed by many as one of the greatest and most widely respected African actors of his generation.

    Together with Pete Edochie, he is considered by several media, film commentators, critics, and other actors to be one of the most influential African actors of all time, and is widely regarded as a cultural icon.

    He is seen as the bridge between the old actors and the new ones.
