Nigerian Force PRO reacts to bandits displaying bundles of notes

The spokesman of Nigeria Police Force (NPF) Olumuyiwa Adejobi has asserted that its operatives cannot combat all the criminal activities across the country at the time.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports that Adejobi made the remarks while reacting to a post showing some unknown gunmen posing with huge amounts of cash.

The post reads, “They are now posing with the ransom money. Showing that they are balling.”

The PRO, however, further emphasised the continuous efforts of both the police and the armed forces in tackling crime.

Adejobi said, “We can’t apprehend all the criminals at once. At least, appreciate us for the ones we have arrested. We arrest them on a daily basis, in large numbers.

“The armed forces and the police are trying their best. Efforts of security forces should be seen, noticed, and appreciated. We need to look towards having the collective efforts and individualistic involvement in tackling insecurity and other vices in Nigeria.”

Nationwide protest: Military will come out if… – Police PRO

ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) at the Force Headquarters, Abuja has disclosed other security agencies, including the military, will support the NPF to manage the upcoming protests.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports ACP Adejobi to have said on Wednesday ahead of the nationwide protests starting from August 1st that the military will come out in case of any eventuality and that they will not oppress anybody.

Speaking on the preparedness of the police ahead of the nationwide protests, Adejobi also disclosed that President Bola Tinubu has passed out instructions to the security agencies that no life should be lost to the protests, adding that where necessary, the police will engage protesters in a professional manner.

“We are doing our deployment. Other agencies are supporting us. The military is not coming out to oppress anybody. We have not militarised this system. People have been raising issues. But they are going to be out in case of any eventuality. But, majorly they will be protecting critical national infrastructures.

“The President is a democrat. He has given instructions to all of us. He does not want any soul to be lost and we do not pray for that. Where we think we need to engage protesters, we will do it professionally and within the ambit of the law,” he said.

What we will not allow protesters to do – ACP Adejobi

TNG reports Adejobi, who made the disclosures when he was featured in a TVC programme, Your View, on Wednesday, urged organisers of the protests to avoid unplanned and unwarranted processions during the planned nationwide protest.

“If protesters are confined in a place, all unnecessary dangers will be reduced. But with a procession, it will make it very difficult for us. Where people are vandalising vehicles, we will not allow that. Where people are blocking the road and violating the rights of others, we will not allow that. Where people are seen carrying guns in the name of protest, we will not allow that. If the protest turns riotous, we will not fold our hands,” he said.

Since the protests have been scheduled to take place across States of the Federation simultaneously, Adejobi urged protesters to assemble at designated locations so that the police and security forces can protect them.

While confirming that only one group has made its intention to protest known to the police, the Police PRO stressed that it is always difficult to manage, guide, and protect street processions.

“We are not, officially, aware of any other group. Those who want to protest apart from the known group led by the SAN, Ebun Adegboruwa, should endeavour to meet their respective CPs for necessary pre-protest discussions like the one the IGP organised on Tuesday, virtually,” Adejobi stated.

This is embarrassing – Police PRO reacts as officer turns ‘houseboy’ for rich young man

The Nigerian Police Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO) Olumuyiwa Adejobi has reacted to a trending video of  a young Nigerian man who was  filmed spraying money with the help of a police escort.

In the now-viral video, the policeman (yet-to be identified) is seen helping the young man open the door of his car for him, after which helps him hold his money for him.

The video sparked a flurry of social media reactions with netizens wondering how a young man could have a police officer at his disposal in such a manner.

Reacting to the video on Thursday, Adejobi via his X handle condemned the video saying, an investigation has been launched into the case.

He wrote: “This was a case study at the IGPs conference today in abuja. This has been condemned, and investigation has been instituted in the case. Senior officers have been ordered to take action against such in their AoRs and screen those who are to have police escorts and guards.

“Even the guy he was escorting doesn’t deserve to have a police escort. It’s embarrassing to the force and disgusting. Perhaps the police was on an illegal duty. We will fish him out and many alike,’’ he added

Police dismiss personnel, demote 3 over misconduct

The Nigeria Police Force has dismissed one of its personnel from service and demoted three others to their previous ranks over alleged involvement in various acts of indiscipline and crime.

The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said this in a statement on Friday in Abuja.

Adejobi said that the personnel, an Inspector was dismissed; with three others demoted after thorough investigations that confirmed their involvement in various acts of indiscipline/crime.

He said that the Inspector was dismissed over alleged offences of criminal conspiracy, armed robbery/kidnapping and corrupt practice.

According to him, the dismissed officer, along with five others, are alleged to be members of an armed robbery gang responsible for robbing a victim in Gwagwalada, FCT, of the sum of N29.8 million.

He said the gang was also responsible for kidnapping one Ikechukwu Okafor in Tunga Manje, FCT and collecting N4.4 million ransom.

The police spokesman said that the dismissed officer had been charged to court accordingly.

He said the three other officers, attached to the Special Tactical Squad (STS), had been demoted to their previous rank of Sergeant, for the extortion of some motorists in Abuja.

“The trio intercepted an unregistered Mercedes Benz at Gwarinpa, Abuja and forced the occupants to part with the total sum of N29.4 million.

“The matter, when reported by one Harrison Gwamnishu (@HarrisonBBi18), via the social media platform – ‘X’, was taken up and properly investigated.

“While the monies have been returned to the complainants, the officers were subjected to orderly room trial, in line with extant laws and have been demoted,” Adejobi said.

He said that several other senior officers had been subjected to the Force Disciplinary Committee hearings.

The police spokesperson said that the hearings were part of an exhaustive review process to scrutinise and address allegations of misconduct against higher-ranking officers of the Force.

He said that the wave of disciplinary actions was part of a broader initiative to implement comprehensive reforms within the police force.

Adejobi said that the reforms were aimed at strengthening internal oversight mechanisms and enhancing their training programme.

He added that the reforms focused on ethics, community policing and improved transparency in disciplinary procedures.

Why accident and seized vehicles litter our stations nationwide – Police

Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, Abuja, has said it is not the fault of theirs that accidented and seized vehicles litter police stations across the country.

Adejobi was reacting to a query via X (formerly Twitter) when he argued Nigerian motorists drive recklessly and are involved in road traffic accidents too frequently.

The Force Public Relations Officer stressed that the police cannot dispose of these vehicles without a court order, adding that the process is cumbersome.

An X user identified as Uduh Chukwuma had questioned the police officer on why police stations in the country are littered with accidented vehicles compared to what is obtainable in Dubai.

Reacting, Adejobi wrote: “Stations littered with accident(ed) and seized vehicles are not the fault of the police.

“It’s a legal matter and, in most cases, reckless nature of some Nigerian drivers.

“In Dubai, they are not reckless on the road, and you can’t drive in Dubai without being certified and licenced. This is common in Nigeria.

“The citizens comply and respect the law in Dubai. Many of us in Nigeria deliberately disregard and disobey the law.

“They don’t record many road crashes as we do here and be guided that the police can’t dispose of these vehicles without a court order. The process is cumbersome.

“Note again that the rate at which we kill ourselves through road crashes is alarming.

“I know, and based on records we keep, that road crashes claim more lives of innocent Nigerians than the acclaimed insecurity sagas in the country.

“Let’s always address issues objectively, without sentiments, so that we liberate and defend this country from our common but avoidable challenges”.

  • Why IGP banned use of POS machines in police stations

Why IGP banned use of POS machines in police stations

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has said the ban on the use of Point-of-Sales (POS) machines in police stations became imperative following public outcry on alleged illegal and illicit transactions with certain police operatives.

The police boss ordered stoppage POS machines and other electronic mobile money transaction devices within police stations and other police facilities nationwide, on Monday.

Giving further reasons for the ban, the IGP who spoke through the force spokesman, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said the ban was aimed at preserving the integrity and security of police operation.

He stressed that the directive was also to forestall perceived corrupt practices, adding that it was to clear the Commands or Formations of possible criminal intrusion under such guise, and maintaining discipline within the Force.

The top cop said any command or formation caught flouting the order would be severely dealt with while police officers and POS operators involved would face dire consequences.

The statement read, ”Despite previous directives, it has come to the attention of the Force leadership that some Commands and Formations continue to flout this regulation.

“As such, the IGP warns that any violation of this ban will attract severe sanctions on the leadership of the affected Commands and Formations.

“The IGP notes that the use of electronic payment devices within police facilities poses significant risks, including the potential compromise of sensitive information, financial irregularities, and the facilitation of illicit activities, therefore, strict adherence to this directive is non-negotiable.

“The IGP urges all officers and personnel to comply with this directive without exception, and warns that any police officer or POS operator found contravening this order, or conniving to conduct illicit financial transactions will face appropriate disciplinary and criminal action in accordance with the extant laws and regulations, and the Command/Formation leadership will equally be held responsible.”

  • What will happen to policemen collecting N100 on the road – FPRO

What will happen to policemen collecting N100 on the road – FPRO

Mr Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, Abuja has disclosed policemen collecting N100 on the road will soon meet their Waterloo.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Adejobi made the disclosure on Wednesday while interacting with social media users on X.

“It’s pure corruption. It’s not allowed or acceptable. It’s condemned in its totality. 100 naira or whatever amount being collected by some policemen (not all of them) on the road is embarrassing and does not portray police in a good light.

“In fact, the hatred and bad image of the police are tailored to this and some other isolated misconducts. Those you see on the road collecting dirty money do not represent our standards, values, and vision. It’s a matter of time. They will soon meet their Waterloo.

“The IGP detests that and is working assiduously to tackle corruption, misconducts and unprofessionalism in the police. We will soon reveal the outcomes of IGP’s monitoring team’s operations across the country. We have recorded successes in that regard, and it’s a continuous exercise,” Adejobi stated.

The Force Public Relations Officer revealed a particular case he had handled himself, where some policemen in Lagos State collected N5 million from a young man, and they told their OC they collected N2 million.

“This has been condemned. Some of them even drop the names of senior officers, including the IGP’s, when they want to perpetrate their criminal and extortionate deals. The IGP has said it openly that “Dont use my name to extort or do evil, i dont need any gift from you.”

“Do you know that I have handled a case where some policemen in Lagos collected 5 million naira from a young man, and they told their OC they collected 2 million naira. They lie to their OCs in most cases. It’s funny but sad. These ones refunded the money and were punished while the OC was queried bc he’s an accomplice,” Adejobi stated.

  • NPF advised against prosecuting Cute Abiola

NPF advised against prosecuting Cute Abiola

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has been advised against taking legal proceedings against comedian Abdulgafar Abiola, popularly known as Cute Abiola.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports the police in a statement on Thursday by Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Force Public Relations Officer, vowed to go after Cute Abiola over two of his recent skits.

The police accused the comedian of “deliberately desecrating police uniform and accoutrements” and “rubbishing the police institution with regards to the use of uniforms”.

However, Public Interest and Human Rights Lawyer, Inibehe Effiong has said “using ‘police uniform’ in a skit for the purpose of entertainment cannot by itself bring contempt on that uniform”.

He argued that entertainers use military and police uniforms globally for their art and craft.

    Read Inibehe Effiong below:

On this case of Cute Abiola’s skit on “police uniform”, I disagree entirely with you the Force PRO.

The case is not as simple as the Force PRO wants the public to believe.

    Skit is intended for entertainment.

Entertainers use military and police uniforms globally for their art and craft.

Using ‘police uniform’ in a skit for the purpose of entertainment cannot by itself bring contempt on that uniform.

In any event, if what’s demonstrated in the skit is a true reflection of what the police is known for, you will have a hard time proving this case.

The skit maker may want to call up to a 1000 witnesses to testify that the skit is a true reflection of the police mode of operation, and that they did not find it contemptuous of the uniform.

Maybe you think, Sir, that it is the opinion of the police that the court will use to determine whether contempt was brought on the uniform or not. Well, that is not how the law works and you may soon find this out.

This case you want to pursue may end up exposing the police to further public ridicule and judicial rebuke.

By the way, the said offence is a simple offence with a punishment of only three months imprisonment or a fine of forty Naira.

If the Magistrate Court even agrees with your argument, fine may be imposed and I don’t see how forty Naira fine on Cute Abiola will improve the revenue of the police or the federal government.

Rather than dissipate your energy trying to fight skit makers for depicting the police in a way you’re not comfortable with, you should use that energy to curtail the menace, lawlessness and wanton corruption of policemen whose endless abuse of power is what has actually brought the uniform and the Force into contempt.

By the way, you will have to define what constitutes a “police uniform” as provided for by law, and also prove beyond reasonable doubt that what Cute Abiola wore in the skit is a police uniform. It is not as simple as ABC. Law is not a joke.

    Criminal Litigation is not skit.
