Ooni of Ife used my former wife against me – Oluwo

The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, has accused the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, of using his ex-wife against him and plotting his downfall.

Oluwo, in a statement on Friday night, alleged that Oba Ogunwusi was seeking his downfall despite playing a prominent role in his emergence as the Ooni of Ife.

He stated that the link he used for Oba Ogunwusi would have been used for his elder brother, Tunji Adeyeye, who was his friend and peer at Akobo, Ibadan at a tender age.

Oluwo recalled how he arranged several meetings in Ibadan after one Akin Daodu, then a close ally of Oba Ogunwusi, begged for his intervention.

He said: “To my surprise, the same person I helped to the throne has been planning evil against me.

“He orchestrated my suspension from the Osun State Council of Obas meeting against the AIG who was a star witness to what transpired.

“He is using a few kings in Iwoland to destabilise my territory.

“He attacked me last month in the presence of the governor, that I am discouraging deity worship.

“He was one of those who used my former wife against me.

“He wants me to be removed as Oluwo by all means. Such is a dream that can never come true.

“No one can remove me as Oluwo. No one can kill me and no one can bring me down.

“He should keep trying. He will be the one to live to regret. His cohorts that tried it in the past failed.”

However, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Ogunwusi, speaking through his Director of Media, Otunba Moses Olafare, denied the allegations raised by Oluwo.

He said: “Oba Adeyeye has been ordained as a king from heaven, regardless of who does what. He is a king with God on his side.

“When Oluwo wanted to be king, Ooni supported him with cash and other logistics that we can’t even mention here.

“At the last Council of Oba meeting, Ooni only jokingly told Oluwo that he should not condemn any monarch for worshipping deities but should allow anyone to practice anything they feel is good for them.”

  • Nothing to be happy about 62 years of Nigeria independence – Oluwo

Nothing to be happy about 62 years of Nigeria independence – Oluwo

The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, said the stated there is nothing to be happy about in 62 years of Nigeria’s independence day

In an independence day message addressed to the general public and politicians, signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Alli Ibraheem, and made available to newsmen on Saturday in Osogbo, the monarch stressed that Nigeria got its independence too early.

According to him, “Nothing to be happy about in 62 years of Nigeria independence day and the irony of it is that, we took the independence too soon and left our future in the hands of some heartless leaders. Many of our Leaders were selfish, incompetent, and not God fearing. May nature reward them accordingly for what they have done for Nigeria.

“I challenge them to individually come out to highlight the good they have done for this country. On every independence day like this, a space should be provided for all of them to tell us the pride they have brought to this country. We deserve better. We have everything to our advantage to be one of the very few greatest countries in the world but leaders to our disadvantage.

“As a natural paramount ruler, I’m proud of my achievements as an incorruptible monarch of merit to my kingdom. I take nothing from my people. I protect their interest and resources. I give account of my stewardship and always demand they challenge me when I unlawfully take from their sweat. As one of the leaders today, I’m so proud of myself and beat my chest.

“Nigerians should freely express their mind instead of the usual happy independence. As the giant of Africa, we should be proud of it now.

“My piece of advice to the politicians and leaders in the position of power now is for them to change their ways now and make this country better.

“I’ve the hope we can still kick and better. The ball has not crossed the bar. Nigerians should start electing and appointing credible individuals into positions of authority and always request stewardship. We have the power to reject any elected or appointed leader whose governance is of curse to us.

“The masses must unite to dispossess people of no conscience from power. It is now, it is already late but not too late.”

Yoruba nation: Igboho ready to drop agitations; forgive him, Oluwo begs Buhari

The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi, has begged President Muhammadu Buhari to forgive the self-appointed Yoruba freedom fighter, Sunday Adeyemo Igboho over his agitations to disintegrate Nigeria.

Oluwo said Sunday Igboho, who was declared wanted after his house was raided last week by the DSS, has suffered a lot.

The traditional ruler said Igboho will drop his agitations, adding that he would take him on a visit to Buhari.

In a letter to the President on Friday, the Oluwo said Sunday Igboho earned his popularity as an activist whose joy is to liberate the cheated.

He explained that “Whenever I’ve information about his move, I do call him to order.”

Oluwo recalled that Adeyemo visited his palace in 2011 and he gave him pieces of advice when sought.

However, the Oba regretted that “instead of Igboho to distinctively differentiate between agitation towards government and inter groups activism, he failed.”

The monarch said he was insulted by Igboho for standing up for a united Nigeria, saying, however, that he has forgiven him.

He appealed to the President, saying, “I’m personally beseeching your Excellency as the number one citizen of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to demonstrate your magnanimity by forgiving our promising son, Chief Adeyemo Sunday Igboho.

Why Yoruba monarchs are silent over invasion of Igboho’s home – Olowu

“He is a novice in handling issues against the government. He is a gift to us in Yoruba. He has pledged his readiness to listen to us. I appeal to your Excellency to slow down the security trail on Sunday Igboho. I promise your Excellency that Igboho will mind his steps henceforth. He has suffered a lot. He would step down agitations. I will bring him for a peace talk at an appropriate time.

Oluwo of Iwo raises alarm, warns public against ‘scam’ that he’s finding wife

The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi has alerted the public that he is not looking for a wife in the public domain.

A press statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Oluwo, Alli Ibraheem and made available to newsmen said the notice became necessary following series of reports by some women who fell into the hands of scammers using the Oluwo’s name.

The monarch revealed that he was aware that some detractors had created some social media accounts in his name to perpetrate fraud and discredit his image.

He maintained that he has no personal Facebook page except his official pages.

The statement said “we learnt the victims have interest in Oluwo and fell on scammers in the name of rituals to become the queen. The scammers went on to open accounts in Oluwo’s name to continuously perpetrate such questionable acts.

“Anyone who plays into the hands of these scammers is on his or her own and a paramount ruler of my calibre will not engage in video chats with anyone neither will I exchange inbox messages or video calls on those pages”, he added.

Oba Akanbi disclosed that the security operatives have been briefed for necessary action.

  • Why Yorubas will lose more in war against Fulanis – Oluwo

Why Yorubas will lose more in war against Fulanis – Oluwo

The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, has cautioned the Yorubas to stop the drum of war against the Fulanis in the southwest.

Oluwo argued “the lifestyle of many Fulanis is not worth fighting as they tend to lose nothing except their cows.”

A statement personally signed by the monarch on Friday cautioned the herders to respect human dignity.

He also appealed to Yorubas to consider their brothers in the northern parts of the country.

“The lingering Yoruba-Fulani saga is a fragile issue that demands a witty, technical approach. No doubt, the activities such as killing, kidnapping, raping perpetrated by the bad eggs among the Fulanis are condemnable.

“As a people, we must understand who to fight. I see Fulani as a section of the Hausas. And most Fulanis are not stationed in their origin. They have relocated and settled.

“Their most valued item is cows. Most of their properties are movable. Is this who we want to declare war against?”

“Declaring war against the Fulanis will be derogatorily translated to war against the Hausas. Fulanis are just a section of the Hausas. What will be the fate of billions of investments and properties of the Yorubas in the northern States?

“If their cows could be moved, how will our innocent sons and daughters in the northern states move their investments and properties? I see Yoruba losing more should there be war.

“I’m appealing to all and sundry to dignify human lives and toe the path of honour in sustaining a peaceful co-existence. War is an enemy of humanity. What war can do, peace can do better,” he added.

Send herdsmen abroad, to learn modern cattle farming – Oluwo of Iwo tells Buhari

Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, has urged Fulani settlers in his domain to move to town and relate more with the people.

Oluwo also told the settlers about how he met the Mohammadu Buhari , in Aso Rock and advised him to send herdsmen abroad to learn the modern method of rearing cattle.

Oba Akanbi made the statement during a visit to the Fulani settlers residing at Gaa Fulani, Odo Oba, Iwo.

In a video of the speech made by the royal father obtained on Friday, Oluwo, who spoke in the Yoruba language, said open grazing was no longer in vogue and urged the herders to embrace the modern method of feeding their animals.

He said, “I was in Aso Rock and I met (President) Buhari one on one and I told him to send some of you herders abroad where you will learn modern ways to do your business. How will a cow trek over 20 miles to graze and you expect it to be fattened? Your cows should be kept in a place where they will be well fed.

Oba Akanbi noted that there were beautiful Fulani children in his domain and that he was going to re-orientate the ones amongst them who had chosen a criminal path.

He maintained that the criminal elements amongst them were formed as a result of decades of neglect in the Southwest.

According to him, “When you do not care about people living in abject poverty around you, without helping or checking that girl child coming out of the forest selling local cheese and those small boys rearing cattle from 6 a.m till evening.”

“If someone resides in the forest for so long, there is possibility that they may start behaving irrationally if not properly put in check”, he added.

The traditional ruler assured all non-indigenes residing in Iwo land of his support and protection, adding that he will not discriminate against anybody as their king.

He charged the Fulani to see everybody as their brother’s keeper as this would enhance good neighbourliness

  • Iwo kingmakers demand Oluwo’s removal for alleged misconduct

Iwo kingmakers demand Oluwo’s removal for alleged misconduct

Worried over a series of illicit acttivities unworthy of a traditional ruler, a group of 12 chiefs in Iwo town have demanded the removal of the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi.

The group, under the aegis of the Concerned Kingmakers of Iwoland, made the demand in a petition to the Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola.

The letter, dated September 9, a copy of which was made available to newsmen on Wednesday, was titled, ‘Petition for the removal of Oba Adewale Akanbi (Oluwo of Iwo) from the throne of Iwoland.’

The chiefs said Akanbi, after his coronation in 2016, declared himself ‘Emperor,’ a title they said was unknown to Iwo history, adding that in July same year, the royal father stirred another controversy when he declared that all Yoruba men were entitled to the stool of the Ooni of Ife.

The petitioners also accused him of engaging in a fight against some notable personalities within and outside his domain.

“Oba Adewale Akanbi has penchant for fighting notable personalities within and outside Iwoland. At the moment, Oba Adewale fought Chief Abiola Ogundokun, Imran Adio, (a leading Islamic cleric) whom he removed as Otun Ajanasi. He insulted the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi; Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi; Orangun of Ila, and other prominent Obas in the state,” the petition added.

But the Press Secretary to the Oluwo, Alli Ibrahim, in a statement, said some of those who signed the petition were pressured into doing it by “a detractor.”

He said, “The detractor has gone beyond many times to discredit Oba Akanbi and failed serially. The recent was to divide the kingmakers, but it was dead on arrival. The achievements of Oluwo endeared him to Iwo (people) more. You can’t run down what your children may benefit (from) in the future.”

  • Alleged assault: Court orders Oluwo of Iwo to appear in person

An Osogbo Magistrates’ Court on Friday ordered the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi, to appear in person for the hearing of a matter bordering on allegations of assault filed against him by the Agbowu of Ogbaagba, Oba Dirkrullahi Akinropo.

Oba Akinropo filed a suit accusing Oba Akanbi of assaulting at a peace meeting in the office of the Assistant Inspector- General of Police, Zone XI, on February 14.

Through his counsel, Soji Oyetola, Oba Akinropo on March 6 sought and got relief of the court to file an application to compel the Oluwo to appear in person for trial.

Addressing the court when the matter came up on Friday, Oyetayo urged the court to issue a bench warrant for the Oluwo’s arrest over his failure to appear before the court.

Oyetayo said the defendant was duly served with the court process and should have appeared in person.

But in a counter-argument, lawyer for the Oluwo, Tiamiyu Adegboyega, said the application was served on the office of his client around 12.45pm on March 18.

He claimed that the monarch had not been informed and served the process personally.

He urged the court to discountenance the application for bench warrant for the Oluwo’s arrest, saying it had no basis in law.

Ruling on the application, Magistrate Olusegun Ayilara ruled that Oba Akanbi should appear before the court in person on April 3 when the matter would come up again.

According to him, the matter being a quasi- criminal matter, will require the Oluwo’s presence in court and directed that hearing notice should be pasted on the walls of his residence.

He added that hearing notice should also be forwarded to Oba Akanbi’s verifiable phone number.

  • Court summons Oluwo to appear over assault on Agbowu

An Osogbo Chief Magistrates’ Court in Osun on Friday ordered the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi, to appear in court over an alleged assault.

The Oluwo is accused of allegedly attacking and punching another monarch, Agbowu of Ogbaagba, Oba Dhikrulahi Akinropo during a peace meeting on Feb. 14.

The meeting convened by an Assistant -Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 11, Mr. Bashir Makama, in his Office was called to settle a land tussle in Iwo land between the monarchs.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Mr. Soji Oyetayo approached the court for an order on motion exparte in order to file an application against the Oluwo.

Ruling in an Exparte application, Magistrate Olusegun Ayilara, ordered the police to put the traditional ruler on notice before the date would be fixed for hearing of the matter.

  • I did not assault fellow Oba – Oluwo

The Oluwo of Iwo in Osun, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, has denied the allegation that he assaulted the Agbowu of Ogbaagba, Oba Dhikrulahi Akinropo, during a peace meeting in the state.

Oba Akanbi, at a press conference on Tuesday in Osogbo, said the allegation was a desperate gang up against him.

The monarch, who denied the trending report of physically assaulting Oba Akinropo, said what happened was a ‘mere altercation and not physical combat’ .

Oba Akanbi said what transpired between him and the Ogbaagba monarch was a fallout of a courageous move on his part to put a stop to economic oppression against the downtrodden by kings in his domain.

“I did not punch Agbowu of Ogbaagba, although there was altercation that almost resulted to exchange of blows, but that didn’t happen at all.

“I brought him and other Obas to the police to talk to them on the need to stop selling land that did not belong to them.

“I am fighting corruption in a traditional way.

“They are selling a hectares of land at the rate of N60,000, which I’m kicking against.

“I did not touch Agbowu of Ogbaagba, although he was aggressive and we almost had altercation but I did not punch him,” the Iwo monarch said.

The Iwo monarch added he was a peace loving personality.

“If I am that boxing king you people are calling me, I should have done that in Iwo and not in Osogbo.

“I personally initiated the peace meeting in which I involved the AIG when those kings refused to desist from land grabbing despite my several warnings and advice,” Oba Akanbi said.

It would be recalled that Akanbi was alleged to have assaulted Akinropo during a peace meeting at the office of the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 11, Bashir Makama, in Osogbo on Friday.

The state government, however, condemned the incident, describing it as unfortunate and avoidable.

The government in a statement by Mrs Funke Egbemode, the Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, said a situation where monarchs engaged in public display of temperament did not edify the revered stools of “our forebears.”
