Omo-Agege seeks genuine reconciliation in Delta APC

Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege has said that APC chieftains in Delta are not united because there had not been genuine effort to bring opposing leaders to a roundtable since 2023 general elections.

Omo-Agege, former deputy president of the Senate, made the disclosure at an interactive meeting of the leaders and stakeholders on Thursday in Warri.

The former lawmaker noted that while reconciliation was important, it must be genuine and not just political rhetoric.

“I do not know any politician who does not want reconciliation. Everyone talks about it because, as they say, talk is cheap.

“But let us be honest, talking is easy, real reconciliation requires action.

“We have done everything possible, and we are still ready to do more, but only if it is genuine and based on a shared determination to win.

“No real efforts has been made to bring opposing party leaders together for meaningful discussions since the 2023 elections.

“Rather, false narratives were pushed, claiming that I and my team have rejected reconciliation.

“The last thing we heard was, they do not want reconciliation. But was there ever a real attempt to reconcile? no,” he said.

Omo-Agege noted that successes in an election required collective efforts.

He expressed gratitude to the APC leaders and members for their sacrifices and unwavering support.

The former legislator, who expressed optimism in the party’s future in Delta, urged the supporters to remain united and focused on the 2027 general elections.

He also advised them to strengthen the party’s grassroots presence, stressing that the future of Delta depends on collective effort and holding leaders accountable.

Earlier, Prince Yemi Emiko, APC chieftain in Warri South, urged party leaders and members in Delta to unite and support Omo-Agege.

He said that Omo-Agege had rightfully earned the leadership of the party in Delta through hard work and grassroots mobilisation.

According to Emiko, leadership is earned and not enforced.

He, however, criticised those attempting to claim the party leadership in Delta without meaningful contributions to the party’s successes.

EK Clark was a titan among men – Omo-Agege

Deputy Senate President in the 9th assembly, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has described the passing of Chief E. K. Clark, as the end of an eventful era characterised by the distinguished role of some leaders who fought assiduously for the building of a Nigeria anchored on justice, fair play, equity and true federalism.

Reacting to the demise of the elder statesman, Omo-Agege said his life was a testimony to courage.
He said: “I received the news of the passing of our foremost leader and patron of Pan Niger Delta Forum, PANDEF, Chief E.K Clark, with profound pain and sorrow. Nigeria, nay, the Niger Delta has lost a leader whose voice for the good of all transcends boundaries, a bridge builder across political lines who struggled for the enthronement of a just and egalitarian society.

“Daddy’s principled voice, especially for the emancipation of the Niger Delta, will be deeply missed. A nationalist par excellence, we will miss his interventions and activism which have greatly enriched our political landscape and provided a well trodden path for future generations.

“Though we mourn his departure at the ripe age of 97, we wish that he stayed more for us to be continued to be guided by his vibrant and genuine intentions as we forge our democratic tendencies.

“He never wavered in his commitment to justice, especially the justice denied the people of Niger Delta when successive governments exploited crude oil, with only a class of people and areas overwhelmingly arrogating the resources to themselves while the Niger Delta was left in ruins through environmental degradation.

“Despite the injustice meted out to his people, Daddy Clark loved Nigeria and put her first. He only wanted fair treatment for the Niger Delta within a true federal system”, the former Deputy Senate President said, adding, “He was father to us all and continued to espouse the principles he held dearly.”

“According to the family, Daddy transitioned peacefully yesterday, May his soul rest in peace and may the Almighty God grant his nuclear and extended family the fortitude to deal with this irreparable loss. Amen.

  • Oborevwori to Omo-Agege: na pepper body dey do you

Oborevwori to Omo-Agege: na pepper body dey do you

Sheriff Oborevwori, the Governor of Delta State has slammed the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege over his criticism of a “Governor of the Year” award he received from a media house.

TheNewsGuru understands that ThisDay had honoured Oborevwori with the “Governor of the Year” award.

However, Omo-Agege, during a visit to Kwale in Delta State on Saturday, called out Oborevwori, accusing him of mortgaging the state’s resources for personal recognition.

In reaction, the state’s Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Charles Aniagwu, in a statement stated that the award was given in recognition of his fiscal discipline and innovative governance.

We thought we were alone in terms of observation of these giant strides of the governor, not knowing that even in faraway Lagos and Abuja, the editors of THISDAY and ARISE News, or rather the two media outlets, were also busy with their eagle eyes, taking copious notes,” Aniagwu said.

The commissioner agrued that the sitting governor truly deserved the award for his administration’s numerous completed and ongoing projects.

We do not have issues with some persons in opposition, particularly our brother and leader, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege. We are not stopping them from playing politics or making constructive criticisms because it emboldens us to do more, but to begin to ask what we are doing and why we were given the award is, at best, seen as ‘Pepper-body’,” Aniagwu remarked.

Aniagwu further advised Omo-Agege to desist from his political rivalry and acknowledge the progress being made in Delta State.

He said, “We expect that if their state has been picked as making progress, they should be happy. Trying to de-market the state because of personal interest is not in the interest of anybody.”

He also called on Omo-Agege to focus on the development of Delta State rather than political attacks.

Hon. Evance Ochuko Ivwurie has been described as community peace maker who utilised his time as a lawmaker to consolidate peaceful coexistence among the communities in his constituency.

Deputy President of the Senate in 9th Assembly, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, gave the commendation in his goodwill message to the former lawmaker on his 58th birthday.

Ivwurie’s peaceful disposition was demonstrated through the swiftness with which he intervened to resolve the Ovre-r’eku and Ovre-r’igun dispute during his time as member representing Ethiope East Local Government Area in the Delta State House of Assembly, Omo-Agege recalled.

“As a lawmaker, you chose to walk with your constituents as shown in your advocacy and untiring intervention for the provision of infrastructural and developmental amenities for your people.

It is a legacy that precedes you and continues to speak for you,” the former Deputy Senate President who was the gubernatorial flag bearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 elections stated.
Omo-Agege urged him to continue on his pro-people trajectory, saying that at a time like this, politicians and leaders are needed to stand up for their constituents.

Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, former Deputy Senate President, has expressed shock over the weekend fire disaster that led to the death of a yet-to-be-determined number of people when a tanker laden with fuel crashed and exploded into a fireball in Agbor, Delta State.

In a statement issued by his Media Adviser, Sunny Areh, Senator Omo-Agege regretted the circumstances that led to the disaster, urging the government of Delta State to urgently come to the aid of the injured people and families of the victims.

He said medical facilities should be fully mobilised to provide succour to those requiring treatment.

“It is a huge disaster losing many people at the turn of the new year. I feel the pain of those directly affected by the disaster.

” I urge the state government to come to their aid because this sort of accident is never scripted and no effort should be spared in providing support and succour to them,” Omo-Agege said.

Chistmas: Omo-Agege expresses optimism in Nigeria’s fortunes

Despite the lingering economic challenges facing Nigeria, immediate past Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has affirmed his conviction that the economy is already turning the corner and returning to prosperity.

In his Christmas message he personally signed, Senator Omo-Agege acknowledged that the recent reforms introduced by the federal government have caused hardship for many Nigerians.

However, he noted that the economy is already witnessing positive gains, including improved growth rates.

“We acknowledge that the recent reforms have caused hardship for many Nigerians, particularly with the removal of fuel subsidies and the unification of the naira’s multiple exchange rates.

Nonetheless, it’s essential to recognize that these reforms are designed to address decades of economic mismanagement and put Nigeria on a path to sustainable growth.

“The reforms are crucial for transitioning our economy from import-dependent to self-sufficient, productive, and job-creating.

” Achieving this ambitious long-term goal requires patience and perseverance. “Encouragingly, we are already witnessing positive gains, including improved growth rates, reduced imports, increased exports, higher incomes for farmers, and increased FAAC allocations to state and local governments.

“These gains demonstrate that the reforms are yielding positive results, and with continued patience and perseverance, Nigeria can overcome current challenges and emerge stronger, more resilient, and more prosperous,” he noted.

However, he declared his optimism about the country’s future. “The government’s economic reforms, although challenging, are a necessary step towards a more prosperous future.”

In fact, agriculture contributes significantly to the global economy, providing employment, raw materials, and economic development opportunities.

According to him, “As your opposition leader, my vision is for a Delta State where every citizen has access to quality education, healthcare, economic opportunities, and a living wage. Let’s work together to make this vision a reality.

“As we move forward, it is crucial that we collaborate to build a brighter future for our nation. With perseverance and collective support, we can overcome current hardships and emerge stronger, more resilient, and more prosperous.”

As 2025 rolls in, he urged Nigerians to “rally behind President Tinubu’s administration as they steer Nigeria through a critical economic restructuring process and implement the Budget of Restoration: Securing Peace, Rebuilding Prosperity.

” Let’s remain optimistic and supportive as Nigeria navigates this critical phase of economic transformation.”
He wished Deltans and Nigerians “merry Christmas, and may the New Year bring us peace, prosperity, and happiness.”

No more handwritten lists in Delta APC congresses – Omo-Agege declares

Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, the Deputy Senate President of the 9th Senate and governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 elections, has declared that the era where few leaders compile names of would-be party executive is over.

Addressing APC leaders, stakeholders and members in Sapele, Omo-Agege vowed to uphold fairness and transparency in the party’s upcoming congresses, insisting that no delegates list will be handpicked.

“I recognise our leaders here in the LGA,” he told hundreds of party faithful and leaders who assembled from across Sapele’s 11 wards. “But let me say this: for as long as I live, this next congress will be free and fair. Nobody will write any list. If you want to be a ward chairman or LGA executive, let the people line up behind you and vote for you.”

The event, organised to foster unity and reconciliation within the party, was attended by prominent leaders, including, State Acting chairman for APC, Chief Francis Obigbor Hon. Monday Igbuya, Delta State’s representative on the board of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Chief Emuobo Enamotor, Hon. Innocent Anidi, , Hon. Moses Ogodo, Hon. Ejaife Odebala alongside Hon. Friday Erubasa, APC Local Government Chairman.

Omo-Agege emphasised the importance of unity and reconciliation within the party as they prepare for the 2027 elections. “APC came very close to winning Delta State in 2023,” he said, adding “We won two Senate seats out of three and several House of Assembly seats. This is the closest APC has ever come to taking over Delta State. For us to win in 2027, we must reconcile our differences and consolidate our gains.”

The APC leader also highlighted the importance of addressing internal grievances, calling for genuine efforts to mend relationships. “We’re ready for peace, but it must be genuine reconciliation. Only a madman wouldn’t want peace,” Omo-Agege stated. He also praised the acting State Chairman, Chief Francis Obigbor, while urging members to respect the party’s constitution regarding leadership structure.

Reflecting on APC’s loss in the 2023 governorship race, Omo-Agege acknowledged the party’s effort while expressing gratitude to members for their sacrifice. “Did we win? No. But we know why we didn’t win, and that’s no excuse not to say thank you. I came here today to thank you for your support. We fought hard, and I know we will fight even harder in 2027,” he said.

He emphasised the need to analyse past mistakes and implement corrective measures. “We need to ask ourselves where we went wrong. To win, we must consolidate where we succeeded and rebuild where we failed. This is why gatherings like this are essential,” he said.

In a veiled warning to internal saboteurs, Omo-Agege urged members to focus on the party’s collective success saying “Some people profit from crisis. Let’s not encourage those who don’t want us to succeed. Instead, let’s build around those who are committed to our success.”

Again, he called out Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, alleging mismanagement of funds by his administration. “In the past year and a half, over ₦900 billion has flowed into Delta State, yet we only hear of flyovers costing ₦86 billion. Where’s the rest of the money?” he asked, stating that “We have a very good chance in 2027. Let’s not throw it away. Together, we can win.”

The gathering ended with a vote of confidence in Senator Omo-Agege, moved by Rev. Daniel Omofeye and seconded by Engr. Michael Pemu. Party leaders like Hon. Monday Igbuya and Hon. Ejaife Odebala also spoke, echoing calls for reconciliation at the state and national levels.

“Delta State is a low-hanging fruit,” Igbuya remarked. “We need unity and peace within our ranks to claim victory in 2027.”

  • Ughelli North APC passes vote of confidence on Omo-Agege

Ughelli North APC passes vote of confidence on Omo-Agege

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State has passed a vote of confidence on Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, immediate past Deputy President of the Senate, affirming their belief in his leadership of the party in the state.

In a meeting of APC leaders and stakeholders from the local government, an APC chieftain and a former member of the Delta State House of Assembly from Ughelli North, Hon. Abel Oshevire, moved the motion for a vote of confidence on Obarisi Omo-Agege’s continued leadership of APC in the state. It was unanimously adopted by voice vote by party elders, leaders and stakeholders at the meeting.

Addressing the meeting, Omo-Agege assured the party faithful that Ughelli North will emerge stronger ahead of 2027 elections, charging the party leaders to build and consolidate on the gains of the last election. According to him, if leaders in other councils achieved close to what Ughelli North did, APC would have been in Government House in Asaba.

Noting that APC won two of three senatorial seats in Delta, Omo-Agege said the showing effectively debunked the narrative that Delta is a PDP state, adding that with unity among party leaders, APC is poised to take over Delta in 2027.

“What we need to do know is to build on the gains of the last election and consolidate on the area that we did very well, while devising strategies to overcome our areas of weakness ahead of 2027.

“We won in Delta Central and Delta South, so we need to consolidate on these two senatorial districts. We lost in Delta North, therefore, we need to rebuild the party in Delta North, because that is our weakest link.

“Only two days ago as part of our consolidation efforts we were able to attract a political juggernaut, the real lioness of the NIger Delta, Hon. Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu and her teaming supporters into Delta APC.

He charged Deltans to hold Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to account on how the huge federal allocation coming to the state is judiciously applied for the overall benefits of Deltans.

“I want Deltans to ask Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on how he is spending our money, because the money he is spending today is meant for the development of the State and to empower Deltans. So, we as a people must hold him to account.

“Delta has received over N900 billion in the past one year and six months, that is even more than the total allocation going to the five states in the South East, but what is Sheriff doing with it, he will say he is building bridges, how much is the bridge? Building a flyover bridge is good, he is using N86 billion for the bridges. However, when you subtract N86 billion from over N900 billion we have over N700 billion, coming to Delta State. Can you tell where such money was spent? This is why Deltans should begin to ask questions,” he added.

Present at the Ughelli APC meeting were the Acting State Chairman of the party, Barr. Francis Obigbor, State Secretary, Surv. Peter Akarogbe and several some members of the State Working Committee (SWC).

Others were the leaders of the party in Abraka, Chief Judith Emuobonuvie Enamuotor, and Ughelli North, Prof. Ibodje as well as Chief Joseph Asa, Dr. Otive Igbuzo, APC chairman in Ughelli North, Mr. Onoabedje Obakpororo, Chief Ominimini Obiuwevbi, among other party stalwarts.
