Guber election 2023: Why Deltans rejected Omo-Agege

    By Akpomudiare Justin

On March 18th 2023, when the people of Delta State went out to vote for a civilian governor, the greater majority may have heeded the advice of an erudite French poet who urged that virtuous minds should actively and vigorously scorn the vices that wicked minds stimulate, it was therefore not surprising that the majority of voters in Delta state rejected Senator Ovie Omo- Agege, the face behind the stealing of the national symbol of Legislative authority in the National Assembly in full glare of a global audience. Furthermore, voters in Delta State have several other reasons for an outright rejection of Senator Omo Agege that bear further explication.

At first there were some Deltans who were willing to embrace the democratic notion of such a politician entering the race for the highest office in Delta state, if only in the hope that reelection concerns might motivate other political actors to behave in the voters’ best interest, but the entry of Senator Ovie- Omo Agege into the race further allowed closer scrutiny of his public records. Under public scrutiny it was unearthed that he had a fuzzy and shady past record in the United States of America where he was reportedly disbarred from practicing Law in the United States of American for an offence he committed in 1995 which involved a case of forgery and fraud for which he was charged in the Los Angelese County Superior Court with case number BA111331hich indicated in the charge sheet that on or about March 7, 1992 h3 committed the crime of forgery of check in violation of Penal Code section 470, felony. Where he signed a check in the name of Elpert Defrietas in the amount of $890 and attempted to pass the said check as a true and genuine check knowing that the check was forged with the intent to defraud the Bank of America, Ahined Mahome and Elpert Defrietas among other counts. He was convicted for Forgery on November 30, 1995 and in April 12, 1998 the state bar court issued an order suspending him from practicing Law in Carlifornia for two year effective May 30, 1996.

Many Deltans were keenly aware, unlike in the United States where he could not escape accountability and the Law that he escaped accountability in Nigeria owing to the protection he received from his principals and the reward he received for debasing democracy, receiving the position of a Deputy Senate President for stealing the national legislative mase in the chamber of the national Assembly, he thus became a poster boy for all the policy missteps and governance mishaps of the APC regime in the eyes of Deltans, the failings of the Government became his failings, and they were ample; such as the Naira Re- design a policy that brought so much anguish to voters that they took unabated into the polling units.

The hardship of the naira re-design was accompanied by many others, including unrelenting fuel queues, the severe insecurity of lives and property where many Deltans could not farm or fish in their homelands, while those who harmed them were protected by the same people that Omo-Agege served and venerated. By all metrics, it was clear to all Deltans that voting for Omo-Age was like bringing the ant-infested wood into the Government House in Delta state.

While, these burdens weighed heavily on Senator Omo-Agege with respect to accountability, which is requirement that elected leaders or public officials have to answer to the common citizens regarding their actions, decisions or indecisions during the time they are or were occupants of the public offices, the test for transparency, which is allow for public scrutiny of what a public official did or does in and out of public office, was even a more difficult test for Senator Omo-Agege; many Nigerians and particularly Deltans were shocked that Ovie Omo-agege voted against E-transmission of polling units results using BVAS after boasting and lying to the whole world that he single-handedly wrote the 2022 Act. Having claimed to have authored the Act he vehemently and publicly voted against the most important part of the Act that the public yearned for.

Furthermore, although he was voted into the Senate to represent the entire Delta Central Senatorial Area, he concentrated most of the constituency benefits he obtained from the office in his home town Orogun, which in the annals of Urhobo history contrasted completely from the template of even development for Urhoboland which the foremost urhobo leader, late Chief

Mukoro Mowoe demonstrated, when he influenced the location of Eku hospital Urhobo College and the Government College Ughelli which spread development even across the length and breadth of the community.

Like the community, individuals were not also spared his narcissistic venom, Urhobos and Deltans alike who could have been helped to attain higher pedestals were set back by the personal ambitions and vengeful desires of Omo-Agege to be the pre-eminent and only force in Delta, both, strong grounds for this premise is laid by reports that he lobbied against excellent performers from Delta state including , Sir Richard Odibo: who after his nomination for the position of National commissioner for the Board of Census Commission, he clandestinely instigated petitions to have him removed until other Deltans strongly intervened to block his petition; he was similarly involved in lobbies against illustrious Delta sons such as Barr. Mike lgini that Nigerians have generally acknowledged and applauded for his incorruptibility competence and integrity throughout his service in INEC; within the political patronage circles that elevated him, he turned his back against Great Ogboru, the force of whose political whirlpool swept him into political prominence and in the same way he turned his back against Chief Joe Omene whom he described as an insurgent leader after riding on his support.

It therefore did not come as a surprise that he was rejected at the polls by most Deltans because of his personal, community and national failings, indeed,Senator Omo-Agege was never really a serious contender for the position of governor of Delta state, his opportunistic dalliance in the APC could not deceive the Delta people who knew him well for what he truly stands for, a man that stimulates scorn due to his many vices.

“We will challenge this fraudulent result using all legal means” -Omo-Agege vows

Deputy Senate President and the governorship candidate of All Progressives Congress, APC, in Delta State, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has revealed his plan following the declaration of Sheriff Oborevwori as the winner of the state’s gubernatorial election.

He vowed to challenge the victory of the PDP candidate in the election (Oborevwori), describing it as “fraudulent, damning and daring for it to be acceptable in any decent society.”

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) recalls that on Monday, March 20, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, had declared Oborevwori as the governor-elect following the March 18 governorship election.

As a Democrat and Deputy President of the Senate, Omo-Agege will explore all lawful avenues to reclaim the mandate freely given to him by the good people of Delta State

According to the state’s Returning Officer, Professor Georgewill Abraham, PDP’s Oborevwori polled 360,234 votes; APC’s Omo-Agege, 240,229 and LP’s Ken Pela, 48,047.

Reacting to the declaration by INEC, Omo-Agege in a statement released by Sunny Areh, his Chief Press Secretary, said the declaration was made despite the myriad of infractions and acts of impunity on the part of PDP in the course of the election.

He noted that the infractions were brought to the attention of INEC with ‘incontrovertible proof’.

Omo-Agege said the election was characterized by massive fraud, unprecedented vote buying and voter suppression perpetrated by the PDP.

In his words: “Most of those infractions are on the public domain and known to INEC officials and the security agencies involved in superintending the election. In the February 25 presidential and National Assembly elections, the results pointed to an unequivocal rejection of the PDP. Of the three senatorial zones in the state, APC won two, while PDP controversially edged out the Labour Party in the Delta North Senate race.

“It was an unadulterated verdict of Deltans on how they have fared under 24 years of governance of their state by PDP. On the basis of the factors listed and more that will come later, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, governorship candidate of the APC in Delta State as well as the leadership of the party, unequivocally reject the declaration by INEC of Sheriff Oborevwori of the PDP as the winner of the March 18 governorship election.

“We will challenge this fraudulent result using all legal means. As a Democrat and Deputy President of the Senate, Omo-Agege will explore all lawful avenues to reclaim the mandate freely given to him by the good people of Delta State,” he said

He urged his supporters and APC faithful to be calm, assuring them that PDP’s “pyrrhic celebration of a stolen mandate will be short-lived,” and he will be sworn in as governor on May 29.

Guber Polls: Delta PDP accuses Omo Agege of using thugs to disrupt election

Following the just concluded gubernatorial and State House of Assembly election in the state, the Delta state Peoples Democratic Party has accused the Senator Ovie Omo-Agege and the All Progressive Congress, (APC) of deploying thugs to scuttle electoral processes in the country.

The Delta PDP made this accusation via a statement released and signed Deputy Director, Media & Publicity, Dr. Ifeanyi Osuoza.

The statement reads in part: The attention of the Delta State Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has been drawn to a most callous anti-democratic and counter-progressive frenzy which confirms that Senator Ovie Omo-Agege and the All Progressive Congress, APC have deployed thugs and personnel dressed in Army and Police uniforms, to disrupt elections and cart away electoral materials in Orogun Ward 2 and all units in the Ward, which is Omo-Agege’s home town.

The reports also confirm that Prof. Patrick Muoboghare and Spencer Ohwhofa, two well-known APC Chieftains, came to the Collation Centre in Uwheru, Evwreni, Ughelli North general area, with persons dressed in Police Uniforms as well as a detachment of suspected Soldiers, shooting sporadically, and carted away all INEC sensitive materials, including BVAS machines, to unknown locations. This orgy of senselessness was provoked by the fact that they are losing badly in these areas.

We are drawing the attention of the police authorities and the military high command to these atrocities allegedly committed by their men acting on the instructions of Senator Ovie Omo-Agege and we strongly urge them to take swift and appropriate disciplinary action against anyone found culpable in these incidents.

We are equally putting INEC on notice that we would not accept any contrary results declared from areas where we were clearly leading but elections were visibly disrupted, electoral materials destroyed or carted away and election officials intimidated, harassed, and even abducted, by persons identified as acting at the behest of APC and Ovie Omo-Agege.

I believe we are going to win at the end of the day – Omo-Agege

Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege, the Delta All Progressives Congress (APC ) governorship candidate says he believes the party will win the election in the state.

Omo-Agege said this shortly after he cast his vote at Ohromuru Orogun in Ughelli North Local Government Areas of the state.

”The die is cast. Today is the day. I have cast my vote.

”With my assessment so far, I believe we are going to win at the end of the day. There is no doubt about that,” he said.

Omo-Agege who, however, alleged attacks by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in some polling units across the state, noted that PDP entered the contest with determination to ensure attacks were launched in polling units across the state.

“Having said that, the PDP entered into this contest with a determination to ensure attacks are launched on polling units across the state, mostly those in Delta Central senatorial district to destroy votes.

”Since morning, we have been receiving reports of those attacks in polling units in Erhueni in Ughelli North LGA. We also received same report in Ughelli South LGA.

”We also received reports of attacks from Oteri in Ughelli North LGA and of course some mischiefs are going on since last night in Gbaramatu and Oporoza communities in Warri South West LGA.

”Uvwie LGA is almost a war zone where people are being threatened that if you are not voting PDP, don’t come out and those who have come out are being threatened that they will be killed.

”All along, we have been getting security agencies to respond and they have been responding; but it thus appeared that they are being overwhelmed .

”But we are here out to protect our votes because we have votes across the state. But inspite of these attacks, we are very confident of our victory,” he added.

Omo-Agege, therefore, appealed to the electorates and the people of the state to remain calm.

“Do not be provoked at the end of the day, we  will be declared winner,” he assured.

The deputy senate president was accredited at about 11. 08 a.m.and he voted at 11.11 a.m.

Election: Delta PDP demands immediate arrest of Omo-Agege over death threat in a viral video

The Delta PDP has called for the immediate arrest of APC guber candidate Senator Ovie Omo-Agege over an alleged viral video in the social media networks where a town crier in Orogun announced that voters would be killed for voting PDP.

This was contained in a statement signed by Dr Ifeanyi Osuoza, Deputy Director, Media & Publicity,
Delta PDP Campaign Council/ State Publicity Secretary,
    Delta State PDP stating that:

“Our attention has been drawn to a viral video where a town crier in Orogun, the home town of Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, the APC Governorship candidate in Delta State, is threatening voters to either vote the APC or risk being killed.

“Claiming to be delivering a message from an unnamed Deputy Inspector General of Police, the town crier warned that any indigene of Orogun who votes for the PDP in the forthcoming Governorship election will be “beaten to death by the police and thugs,” adding that “their corpses will be buried by the Government if they dare to vote the PDP.”

The town crier further warned that “whosoever says he will not vote for Omo-Agege should stay at home.”

“The Delta State Peoples Democratic Party, PDP is alarmed that Senator Ovie Omo-Agege has resorted to crude threats, blackmail, and blatant intimidation to cow the electorate in his inordinate quest for power.

“Indeed, the video validates our assertion that Omo-Agege is unfit to govern a multi-ethnic State like Delta. It is also undeniable proof that he is so unpopular and unacceptable that he is not confident of winning a free and fair election even in his village.

“The Delta State PDP is calling on the Inspector-General of Police to urgently investigate this matter and arrest the purveyors of this death threat. We do not want to believe that the Police is colluding with this village tyrant to subvert the electoral process and the will of the people.

” The people of Orogun have a right to freely vote for any candidate of their choice and should not be denied that right by a desperate power monger and despot in the person of Omo-Agege.

“Deltans are urged to come out on March 18, 2023 and vote the UMBRELLA and PDP all-the-way, for the Sheriff Oborevwori/Monday Onyeme joint Governorship ticket and all the PDP House of Assembly Candidates.

“We further implore and enjoin all eligible Deltans to turn out enmass as voters for the election, to be peaceful and firm throughout the process and must be resolute in defence of their votes, no matter the intimidation by the enemies of democracy.

OPINION: Chief Joe Omene reveals Omo-Agege’s real identity, describes him as self-centred-By Dr. Ifeanyi M. Osuoza

We have always known that Delta APC Gubernatorial candidate and Deputy Senate President, Obarisi Ovie Omo-Agege, is not the sanctimonious, squeaky clean, Knight in shiny Armour saviour, his obsequious loyalists and some of those selected smiling photographs on social media and Google images portray.

But we had refrained from deconstructing him at a personal level since we are not a political party that succumbs to low, dirty personality propaganda and hoped that one day, someone very close to him would do us the favour of presenting him the way he really is.

Today, the chickens have finally come home to roost as Chief Joe Omene, a great leader, elder statesman, and former President General of the Urhobo Progressives Union, UPU, has literally exposed and derobed Omo-Agege, leaving him bare to tan in the harsh electoral harmattan season of Delta’s political landscape.

A recent 6 minutes, 57 seconds trending video, posted on Social media by RERO TV, left no one in doubt about Omo-Agege, as High Chief Joe Omene, took the Deputy Senate President to the cleaners, in a caustic, unsympathetic, and forthrightly authoritative, sage-like baritone, which tore the reputation, personality and integrity of the Delta State APC Gubernatorial Candidate to shreds.

Hear him: “The Omo-Agege you’re seeing, just think of any politician from Urhobo, he’s the worst. He’s a very greedy man, self-centred, and everyday, when I see him criticize Governor Okowa in the papers I just laugh. Assuming he becomes Governor, he will be far worse.

“He is also a betrayer. Just look at the people he started working with, he has betrayed all of them,” the distinguished Urhobo leader declared.

This was just the first salvo in a steady six minutes profiling of Omo-Agege, which is better heard than reported, except to hint that Chief Omene went on to give a graphic and detailed commentary of how the Delta APC Guber candidate betrayed former Governor, Chief James Ibori, who brought him into Government from the United States and gave him top positions like SSG and Commissioner Special Duties, only to be betrayed because Omo-Agege did not get the Governorship ticket.

Chief Omene revealed how Omo-Agege betrayed Chief Great Ogboru, who was instrumental in ensuring the two Senate tenures he’s now enjoying and even the UPU, which stood as guarantor for his Senatorial ambition as Deputy Senate President, only for him to deviously embark on a divide and rule regime as the highest political office holder in Delta Central and Urhoboland, in order to exploit the division in Delta Central political structure, for his own selfish ambition.

He even called those who endorsed him for the position of Deputy Senate President “insurgents”, after he had secured the position. Hear Chief Omene again: “We endorsed him without any preconditions and even wrote to President Buhari as the umbrella body of Urhobo ethnic nation, but he later called us insurgents after he had got the position.

“He called us insurgents, but when we were endorsing him we were not insurgents o. After endorsing him and getting what he wants we became insurgents. How can a lawyer say something like that about people who were in Court? It’s not proper for a lawyer.”

Shedding light on Omo-Agege’s clannish development agenda, Chief Omene had this to say: “You’re the Senate President (sic). As the (Deputy) Senate President he brought Law School, where did he site it? Orogun! He brought Polytechnic, where did he site it? Orogun! He brought so many other things, where did he site them? Orogun! He didn’t site anyone in any other part of Urhoboland. No ooo.

“That will tell you the kind of person he will be, assuming some people vote for him foolishly to become Governor. He does not have the overall interest of Urhobo,” the great Urhobo elder statesman said unflinchingly.

Delta PDP has never had any doubts about the Chameleonic nature of Ovie Omo-Agege. He was once a member of our great party and the circumstances under which he left the party were less than noble, disturbingly dishonourable, acrimoniously petty, and uncharitably rancourous, as he fermented all manner of disharmony within party ranks in his selfish quest to overturn an already accepted zoning arrangement, because of his “emi lo kan” mentality, just like his Presidential candidate in APC.

Chief Joe Omene has done Deltans a great service by exposing the real Ovie Omo-Agege to the world and we are quite gratified by this honest revelation. We have also been vindicated in our unwavering position that even in his own community and so-called stronghold, Ovie Omo-Agege already has major trust, personality, and integrity issues and the initial effervescence of his emergence which is fast fading, will continue to dissipate and evaporate rapidly, as the 2023 election draws ever closer.

  • Ovie Omo Agege; The Mastermind Of Urhobo, Isoko, Delta Ijaw And Itsekiri Loss On NDDC Board

Ovie Omo Agege; The Mastermind Of Urhobo, Isoko, Delta Ijaw And Itsekiri Loss On NDDC Board

    By Olorogun Olori Magege

Ovie Omo Agege thinks he is the beloved son of President Buhari. Of course, he is not. A Fulani man has no abiding love for anyone. His love is as fleeting as the moving cloud above, changing as it dissipates over the horizon. That is strange to Ovie because he stole the mace of the Senate of the Federal Republic to stop the phantom impeachment of Buhari. Shouldn’t Buhari forever lick his backside? So he thought. Of course, Ovie didn’t know that Buhari knew there was no impeachment plan on that day and he is only amused by the dexterity of the mace snatchers. It was a comic relief from an otherwise tense Executive/Legislature relationship of that era. But Ovie in his self-induced egomania, overstretched his goodwill with President Buhari.

When he got rewarded with the plum job of the Deputy Senate President over his role in the mace snatching, he got giddy-headed; he nicknamed himself Ovie Omo Buhari, he was unstoppable, the anointed of Aso Rock. He had direct access to the President of the Federal Republic.

His first plan was to be anointed as the APC leader of the South-South Zone. But he was rebuffed by the big boys of Rivers, Cross Rivers, and Akwa Ibom. ‘Who are you?’ they asked him. He staged a quick retreat. Buhari was silent, amused by the antics of the mace snatcher.

Not done yet he set his eyes on the NDDC Board. He reckoned as the Deputy Senate President who hails from the South-South he is the alpha and omega of the NDDC and he should decide who gets nominated into the Board.

So he sold the idea of the Board to the then National Chairman of APC Comrade Oshiomhole and together they got to work. Ovie knew the Managing Director position would guarantee him the funding of his Guber dream. But he sold a dummy to Adams that the position of the Board Chairman is more befitting to him to appoint as the Chairman of APC. Adams swallowed the bait and he nominated his ex-Deputy to the position of Chairman. Of course Ovie nominated Bennard Okumagba who is said to have bankrolled his second Senate bid. They got some others to nominate for the remaining positions. The job was done and dried, so they believed.

They bid their time until Buhari had left the country for medical treatment, and they forged a letter to the Senate announcing the nominations and Ovie sought for Senate clearance. Of course, the Senate screened the nominees and passed them. Ovie had delivered, Ovie had vanquished, Ovie had triumphed……Ovie Omo Buhari!!!!

Ovie in his wildest dream did not anticipate the revolt his actions would provoke; in intensity and severity. Buhari was not amused. Many claimed to be the son of Buhari just because he took pictures with them or because they ran errands for him sometime ago. But only Buhari knows his sons; if you doubt me ask El Rufai.

Ovie grossly underestimated Buhari’s resolve to clean the augean stable that NDDC had become. The forensic audit would be carried out to catch the thieves and to reposition the Commission for effective mandate delivery.

So Akpabio didn’t really have any convincing to do on Buhari for Buhari to jettison Ovie NDDC Board.

The problem with Ovie is his ego. He believes he is the smartest person God has ever created, he knows it all, the alpha the omega. Anything he does not know does not exist. Because of his superego, he did not believe he needed to carry anyone along in his mischief-making. In the art of diplomacy, he has no knowledge of and therefore no need for it.

How he thinks he can single-handedly nominate a board of such an important interventionist agency beats all imagination. But that is how the world of sadists and despots revolves and the innocent suffer the consequences.

So when the new Board was being selected Ovie was denied access. He had done his own and alone. This time around his input was denied, and his advice was not needed.

And the Urhobos, the Isokos, the Delta Ijaws, and the Itsekiris were left out of the Board. Ovie’s arrogance of purpose has cost my people a no representation on a Commission specifically created and mandated to ameliorate the hardships arising from oil exploration and oil degradation of their ancestral lands.

And Ovie wants to be their Governor. God forbid!

…say as first pro-democracy activist president, Nigerians will hold him to high standards

…hail Obidiens for redrawing Nigeria’s political map

Deputy Senate President and Delta APC Governorship candidate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, and the Delta APC Campaign Council, have congratulated Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu on his victory at the 2023 presidential election.

Omo-Agege in a congratulatory message personally signed by him said Tinubu’s victory is a testament to a renewed hope for a better, forward-looking thinking Nigeria, in which we can better define our destiny as a people.

In its own statement, the Campaign Council described Tinubu as a true renaissance president, a pro democracy activist who was obviously destined for leadership. The council stated that Nigerians have closely followed the President-Elect’s trajectory as a leader of the National Democratic Coalition, NADECO, Senator, Governor and eventually, National Leader of the Progressives under the auspices of the APC.

“The country holds you to higher standards than most, and we are confident that you will take the nation to heights previously unknown.”

Senator Omo-Agege assured the President-elect of his readiness to work with him to maintain and consolidate the overall development of Delta State and the country at large.

He specifically congratulated Labour Party candidate, Mr Peter Obi, for his tenacity, commitment and perseverance; and for creating a new thinking among Nigerians especially the youths. He assured Mr. Obi and his teeming supporters, ‘the Obedients’, in Delta State, that when elected, he will uphold the shared values of responsible governance, transparency and accountability, and ensure people feel the impact of governance.

His words: “On behalf of myself and the good people of Delta State, I congratulate Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu, President-elect of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. I send you the warmest wishes as you exercise your new mandate. I pray God’s blessing upon you, your government, and the people of our dear country.

“I can attest to the fact that you truly have had a front-row seat in the socio-economic and political development of Nigeria. It is evident that in you, we have a fearless, tested, experienced, urbane, business-like, well-rounded, and visionary president-elect…you represent the best bet for the continued prosperity of the country.

“There is no doubt that your victory is a testament to renewed hope; the certainty of victory over poverty and the conviction that our country carries within its bosom the potential of the world’s next economic power. Renewed Hope for a Better Nigeria will drive forward-looking thinking and show that we can begin to define our destiny as a people.

“Be assured of my constant readiness to work with you to maintain and consolidate the overall development of Delta State and our dear country.

“Let me also congratulate my dear friend and brother, Mr. Peter Obi. We are so very proud of you! Through this election, you have solidified your reputation as an ethical personality. Your tenacity, commitment and perseverance have created new thinking among Nigerians, especially the youth.

“However, the most significant issue I have taken from your participation in the 2023 election is your concern about responsible governance through transparency and accountability. I assure you and your teeming supporters, especially in Delta State that when elected, I will uphold those beliefs and ensure that our people feel the impact of government. I wish you even more success in the future.

“I also commend all the staff of INEC and all the security agencies for their services. However, more needs to be done, especially regarding the early arrival of materials to the polling units and more security for voters and staff of INEC.

“Finally, I congratulate all Nigerians on a successful presidential election. I urge all registered voters to once again turn out en masse for the March 11, Governorship and House of Assembly Elections to vote for all APC candidates. We must free and save our dear State in the interest of generations yet unborn.
    Your vote is your right!”
