DSS orders Sowore to retract harmful Tinubu tweet in one week

The Department of State Services (DSS) has given the former presidential candidate under the African Action Congress (AAC) and pro-democracy activist, Omoyele Sowore, one week ultimatum to retract what it described as a “false, malicious, and inciting” social media post against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

TheNewsGuru.com(TNG) reports that the DSS, in a letter dated September 7, 2025, accused Sahara Reporters publisher of making “criminal and derogatory” remarks against the President in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on August 26, 2025.

The agency warned that failure to comply with its demands would force it to “explore all lawful means” to protect national security and public order.

Sowore had in the post described President Tinubu as a “criminal,” accusing him of lying to Nigerians after the President reportedly claimed in Brazil that corruption no longer existed under his administration.

The DSS, through its Director of Legal Services, Uwem Davies, said the remarks had sparked anger among citizens and could “incite public disturbance, disunity, and even insurrection.”

“Your choice of words in the description of the President are false, malicious, and capable of inciting public disturbance, disunity, and breakdown of law and order,” the DSS said in the letter addressed to Sowore.

“These statements are to say the least capable of causing insurrection, as they are odious, repugnant, derogatory, and uncomplimentary towards a person occupying the highest office of this country.”

The security agency directed Sowore to retract the post immediately using the same X platform and with the same prominence as the original post.

It further asked him to publish a public apology in at least two widely read national newspapers and two television stations with national coverage.

“Make an immediate and unequivocal retraction of the false and repugnant post through the same platform and with the same prominence as the initial post; publish a public apology in at least two national dailies and two television stations with national spread; and send your representation within one week of receipt of this letter,” the letter read in part.

The DSS also copied the United States Embassy in Abuja, suggesting the matter had drawn the attention of diplomatic circles, given Sowore’s dual residency in Nigeria and the United States.

The secret service reminded Sowore, who has consistently criticised successive Nigerian governments, that individuals seeking to play leading roles in the country’s democratic space must exercise restraint and a sense of responsibility in both speech and action.

CUPP demands immediate release of Sowore

The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has demanded the immediate and unconditional release of a politician, Omoyele Sowore, by the Nigerian Police.

CUPP National Secretary, Chief Peter Ameh, said in a statement on Thursday in Abuja that Sowore’s arrest was unconstitutional and must not be allowed to stand.

Ameh noted that Sowore, the 2023 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), was entitled to freedom of expression under Section 39 of the Constitution.

He said the law guarantees the right to hold opinions and share ideas freely, without fear or interference from any authority.

“This arrest is a clear abuse of power and violates the principles of justice and accountability enshrined in our Constitution,” Ameh stated.

He added that the police must explain the reasons behind Sowore’s arrest to the public.

“Denying him bail is unjustifiable and reflects a dangerous use of power aimed at suppressing dissent,” he said.

Ameh insisted that Sowore must be released immediately and unconditionally, or charged to court if there is any legitimate case.

He further questioned how someone could attain the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police within just 10 years of service.

Such a rapid promotion, he argued, raises valid concerns about systemic corruption and favouritism within the police structure.

Ameh called for a public inquiry to ensure fairness and transparency in promotions within the Nigerian Police Force.

He said using the police to harass or silence citizens should be condemned by every well-meaning Nigerian.

“Accountability is our collective duty, and we must resist any attempts to stifle free speech,” he added.

Ameh urged the Nigerian Police to uphold the rule of law and stop serving as a tool for oppression.

Buhari ordered soldiers to open fire on peaceful #EndSARS protesters – Sowore lists former president’ sins

The former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has reeled out major shortcomings of former President, Muhammadu Buhari who died on Sunday,July 13th, 2025.

TheNewsGuru reports that Buhari passed away in an undisclosed London clinic after a brief illness, and his remains are expected to arrive in the country on Monday for burial in Daura, Katsina state.

Reacting to his death, Sowore via his Facebook page alleged that the late Buhari slaughtered hundreds of Shiites, men, women, and even children.

The popular activist also accused the former Nigerian leader  of ordering soldiers of the Nigerian Army to open fire on peaceful EndSARS protesters waving the Nigerian flag, in October 2020.

According to Sowore, the former president is behind the disappearance of Abubakar Idris, a social media influencer and staunch critic of the Nigerian government who was abducted on August 1, 2019.

He further alleged that late Buhari ordered the massacre of young Southeasterners whom he branded IPOB, adding that Buhari disobeyed court orders, jailed critics arbitrarily, destroyed the economy, and ruined everything he touched.

He wrote, “Muhammadu Buhari slaughtered hundreds of Shiites, men, women and even children. He ordered soldiers of the HQ Nigerian Army to open fire on peaceful #EndSARS protesters waving the Nigerian flag.

“He “disappeared” Dadiyata. He ordered the massacre of young Southeasterners whom he branded IPOB. He disobeyed court orders, jailed critics arbitrarily, destroyed the economy, and ruined everything he touched.

“And now, because he’s dead, some people with selective memory want us to mourn or worship him? Shameful. NO, we do not mourn tyrants. We remember their victims.”

    Why I can’t join 2027 coalition opposition – Sowore

Omoyele Sowore, the 2023 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC),  has said that many politicians in the 2027 opposition coalition have done Nigeria dirty and committed evil acts during their time in government.

Sowore made this known while speaking on Wednesday during Channels Television’s ‘The Morning Brief”, describing them as politicians without conscience, character or pedigree.

Sowore who dissociated himself from the coalition, stated that he can’t even sit across the table from some of the coalition members, adding that there is no way some of the coalition members can wash themselves clean of the evil acts they’ve committed in the past.

He said, “There are just too many people in the coalition that you are mentioning that I can’t even sit across the table from, I mean, personally, without being tempted to act out of my own personal character. So that’s the issue.

“I cannot ignore those things. I can’t ignore so many of the people in coalition who have done Nigerians dirty, who have done what is regarded as evil. People who we know have no conscience, they have no character, they have no pedigree.

“There is no there’s no amount of conditions you can give to them that will make them wash their ways, or change the way they have behaved, or the way they used to behave. These are typically people whose way of life is being evil, being bad, being corrupt, shortchanging the public, being selfish. So there is no there is no condition that is available for them.

Sowore fumes over protest disrupted by thugs

Mr Omoyele Sowore, the leader of End Bad Governance protest, said that the peaceful protest on Thursday, was aimed at raising public awareness of citizens’ rights to democratic participation.

Sowore, a former presidential candidate of African Action Congress (AAC), in a chat with journalists in Akure, said the protest was also to speak out against bad governance.

He explained that a letter had been written by the group’s legal counsel to the Commissioner of Police on the rights of citizens to hold the peaceful protest.

Sowore, however, alleged that despite the letter, the peaceful protest was disrupted by thugs.

“What is so sad is that a letter had been written by a lawyer to the Commissioner of Police.

“The letter was not to plead with the police that we want to protest, but just to remind them of their duties as policemen to protect people in the country.

“It’s shocking that they failed in that responsibility because they have aided thugs to disrupt this protes.

“The Commissioner of Police did promise that something would be done, but we’ve given him a matching order that if something is not done, we’ll come back here and take over the place.

“Nobody has the right to prevent another Nigerian from expressing themselves, and that is why, you see, I’m always in the crosshairs of the police, whether the person oppressed is a policeman, or whosoever.

“We are not going to accept it. We are not and that’s why we have come here today. These hired thugs came to sabotage and hijack the protest. They came to attack the peaceful protesters,” he said.

Also, Mr Tope Temokun, a human rights activist, said that the protesters had formally requested the intervention of police to ensure the safety and protection of peaceful protesters scheduled to take place in Akure.

Reacting, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Wilfred Afolabi, said that no policeman would be allowed to associate with thugs.

“With the level of training we have received both locally and internationally, we will not allow any policeman under my watch to have anything to do with thugs.

“So the allegation that maybe police connived with thugs to attack the group is baseless,” he said.

    Tinubu, a failure – Sowore

Omoyele Sowore, the former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) has described President Bola Tinubu-led administration in the two years as a failure.

Sowore in a brief statement on his 𝕏 handle, noted that President Tinubu destroyed the nation’s economy, after which, imposed hardship, hunger on citizens.

According to Sowore, Tinubu pushed the exchange rate to ₦1,600, destroying the purchasing capacity of the citizens.

He criticized the President’s poor policies, including the removal of the fuel subsidy for low-income citizens, while continuing to subsidize the luxuries of the wealthy, as insecurity devastates all regions of the country.

It read: “Today marks Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second year in office as President.

“A man who took two years to construct only 30 kilometers of highway on his signature 700 km Lagos-Calabar highway project is failure.

“A man who met the other exchange rate at ₦400 and pushed it to ₦1,600 is a failure!

“A man who ended the petrol subsidy for people with low incomes but still subsidizes corrupt government officials and lawmakers in the name of budget padding is a failure!

“A man who met Boko Haram in Borno and Yobe but let them move down south to Kogi is a failure.”

They should be celebrated, not punished – Sowore vows to fight for student queried over viral video on Remi Tinubu

The former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has vowed to back Delta nursing student, Osato Edobor, over her involvement in a viral video that showed student nurses allegedly ridiculing First Lady Oluremi Tinubu.

TheNewsGuru reported that the school’s Provost, Evbodaghe Rita Ogonne, in a letter dated March 27, said the student nurse committed a punishable offence for allegedly posting the song against the First Lady on TikTok.

This is a punishable offence as enshrined in the Student Handbook under standardized disciplinary action for some punishable offences No 8, Page 21.

“You are therefore requested to explain in writing in triplicate copies within 24 hours of receipt of this letter why disciplinary action should not be taken against you for this act,” it read in part.

Reacting, Sowore  via the microblogging platform on Fridat stated that the students ought to be celebrated rendered than being subjected to punishment.

The human rights activist assured Edobor that she would be provided with all legal might against the threatened disciplinary action of the school management.

“The audacious nursing school students who suitably rejected Bola Tinubu’s wife, Senator Remi Tinubu, in that ‘Na Your Mama Be This’ song ought to be celebrated, but as is characteristic of this Tinubu repressive era, one of them is being targeted for sharing this charming rendition on her TikTok page.

“We will be providing backing to this lady with all our physical and legal might to ensure the authorities at Delta State College of Nursing Sciences do not perpetrate this egregious act of injustice, as an injury to one is an injury to all,” he wrote.

Sowore, Adeyanju dragged as FG unveiled plans to visit Egypt to learn power generation, transmission

Nigerians on social media have criticized the 2023 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) Omoyele Sowore, and Deji Adeyanju, the Human rights lawyer and activist, following the recent federal government’ plan to visit Egypt to learn power generation and transmission.

Recall that in 2022, Sowore had taken to his X handle to tackle the presidential candidate of the Labour party in the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi over his 3-day visit to Egypt to understudy the country’s “power sector, education, planning and finance sectors”

Sowore stated that election is in 9 months yet Obi who was the Labour Party Presidential candidate wants to go “learn something from Egypt in 3 days?”

He further said that this is his problem with “unprepared candidates.”

He wrote: “Heard @PeterObu traveled to Egypt to learn how to fix Education /power problems, this is exactly the problems with unprepared candidates. Its is 9 months to election and a two term gov. and former VP candidate want to go learn something from egypt in 3 days? Wow! wecnat continue like this.”

Adeyanju, on the other hand,  joined in, to call out the former Anambra governor over his trip to Egypt

Adeyanju said, “Tinubu is in Ekiti working hard for his party, Atiku is in Abuja; Obi on his way to Egypt to study Egypt. Later, people will come to shout rigging. Peter Obi should be going to Ekiti, not Egypt. Election is happening on Saturday in Ekiti, Obi says he’s going to Egypt to understudy their system. The Labour Party has a Guber candidate in Ekiti. This was how Moghalu was all over social media but someone called Dumebi defeated him,” he added.

However, the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, in a recent meeting in Abuja with the Egyptian Ambassador to Nigeria, Mohammed Fouad, said the government will learn power generation and transmission from Egypt which it described as a role model in the sector.

The minister in a statement through his spokesperson, Bolaji Tunji,  reaffirmed its commitment to rural development through improved electricity access, where he noted its interest in strengthening bilateral cooperation in energy expansion, with a focus on renewable energy and rural electrification.

Adelabu who commended Egypt’s achievements in the energy sector,  expressed Nigeria’s interest in learning from Egypt’s experience in energy generation, transmission, and distribution, adding that the success in Egypt led to the engagements with Siemens with a view towards stabilising Nigeria’s power sector.

“Egypt has made remarkable strides in energy transformation, and we are eager to collaborate and learn from your expertise. Our goal is to ensure reliable, stable, and affordable energy access for all Nigerians,” he added.

The development, led X users to call out Sowore, Adeyanju for attacking Peter Obi for the very thing the President Bola Tinubu-led administration is trying to embark on.

Ragnarok wrote: “The same Egypt that Peter Obi went to and the entire APC’s propaganda machine went overdrive and called him all sorts of names.  Even the Ronu rascals insulted him to high heavens. Is that the same Egypt you want to go? Ah, ah, now ,make una get small shame at least after criticising Peter Obi for what you are about to do.”

Aku wrote: “Someone should wake up Sowore and those APC nonentities.”

J Omojola wrote: For all the Ronu, know this and know peace. Peter Obi and not Tinubu was what Nigeria needed.  So after 3 years Obi visited Egypt, Tinubu admistration is just coming to the realisation that they are the one we should learn from.”

Adéwálé_Roboco wrote: PO was ridiculed because he went to Egypt to study there power sector to have a first hand knowledge as a president, but see this mdf now. God’s judgement will come suddenly upon all of you that secretly or openly supported Tinubu.”

The Local Government Inspector of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) who had earlier summoned a corps member, Ushie Rita Uguamaye, also known as Raye, for criticizing President Bola Tinubu‘s administration has reportedly refused to show up after Nigerian activist cum politician, Omoyele Sowore, accompanied her.

TheNewsGuru reports that a message from the NYSC Local Government Inspector (LGI),instructed Rita, identified by code number LA/24B/832, to report to the Eti Osa 3 local government office by 10 a.m. on Monday without fail.

Recall that Rita via the TikTok handle @talktoraye, expressed frustration over the deteriorating economic conditions in Nigeria, lamenting how hard work seems futile in the face of the country’s financial struggles.

Rita who broke down in tears, shared her frustration over the high cost of goods in the market, further calling President Tinubu’s government a “terrible” one for paying little attention to the hike in commodity prices. Her outcry quickly gained widespread attention, prompting an official response from the NYSC board.

Sowore, in a post via his 𝕏 handle on Monday, said he accompanied Raye to the LGI’s office alongside some legal practitioners.

Sowore said the NYSC official absconded and did not show up throughout their stay.

He wrote: “We arrived at the Eti-Osa LGI offices of the National Youth Service Corps with youth Corper, Ushie Rita Uguamaye in Lagos.

“She was scheduled to appear before the LGI today and we escorted her to their offices with attorneys, Festus Ogun, Adeyinka Oyesomi and Ojienoh Justice but LGI official had absconded failing to show up throughout our stay.

Nigeria’s former Vice president, Atiku Abubakar, celebrity Skit Maker, Debo Adedayo, popularly called Mr Macaroni, and human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore, have defended Lagos-based National Youth Service Corps member, Ushie Uguamaye, also known as Raye, who called President Bola Tinubu a “terrible” president.

TheNewsGuru reported that Rita via the handle @talktoraye, expressed frustration over the deteriorating economic conditions in Nigeria, lamenting how hard work seems futile in the face of the country’s financial struggles.

Rita who broke down in tears, shared her frustration over the high cost of goods in the market, further calling President Tinubu’s government a “terrible” one for paying little attention to the hike in commodity prices.

“We should start calling out the government. For example, Tinubu, you are a terrible person. What are you doing to help our economy?

“If a lot of Nigerians come out and start speaking about what we are going through, maybe changes will be made in the government,” she said in the video.

In another video, the female corps member alleged that Lagos National Youth Service (NYSC) management threatened her for the video she made condemning hardship in the country.

Reacting to the alleged threat, on his 𝕏 handle, Macaroni issued a stern warning to  NYSC management against intimidating the female corps member.

He wrote: “To the DG, Coordinators and every official of the NYSC!!! You cannot threaten, intimidate or victimize any corper for expressing their view on the performance of the president. They are citizens with rights! The president is in office to serve the people and every Nigerian, Corper or not has the right to hold their Leaders accountable!!!”

On his party, the former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Sowore said the corps member stated a fact, not an insult. He added that NYSC was no longer serving its purpose.

Saying that Bola Tinubu is a terrible person/’president’ is not an insult; it is a statement of fact. NYSC has outlived its usefulness, if it was ever helpful at all, considering its deceptive origin and outright corrupt nature,” he wrote on his 𝕏.

Atiku, on the other hand, praised Raye’s courage, describing her as a symbol of a new generation of politically engaged women committed to advocacy and democratic participation.

“Raye embodies the spirit of a new generation of women who champion the ideals of popular participation and unwavering advocacy in the political sphere.

“I deeply admire her boldness and wisdom—her fearless resolve to speak truth to power, undeterred by the weight of opposition,” Atiku wrote.

According to the former presidential candidate,  Raye like historic female activists such as Gambo Sawaba, Funmilayo Ransom-Kuti, and Margaret Ekpo, is playing pivotal roles in Nigeria’s political landscape.

The Nigerian leader further admonished the public to support Raye, rather than being hostile towards her.

“Rather than being met with hostility, Raye deserves encouragement and support. She is a shining emblem of the Nigerian youth—a testament to the long-held promise that the leaders of tomorrow are already among us, ready to shape a better future,” Atiku said.
