The speaker described Akeredolu as a man with passion and love for his people and that his government had brought smiles to the people.

According to him, this is through his landmark achievements in the state, particularly in the area of security.

Anti-party activities: Ondo Assembly sacks two members

Ondo State House of Assembly has declared the seats of two members vacant for anti-party activities.

The House declared that Hon. Favour Tomomewo (APC-Ilaje 2) and Hon. Torhukerhijo Success (APC-Ese-Odo) were actively involved in Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) recent gubernatorial primary election in the state.

The declaration followed a letter earlier received from the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr Ade Adetimenhin, requesting for the sacking of the two lawmakers from the House.

Speaker of the House, Hon. Bamidele Oloyelogun, said the declaration was in consonance with Section 109 (1g) of the 1999 Constitution as amended.

He called on INEC to conduct election to fill the vacant seats within 90 days.

He also directed the two lawmakers to return all government properties in their custody to the Clerk of the House while all their benefits and entitlements have been stopped.

Oloyelogun expressed worry at the lawmakers’ action and said there was no crisis in the APC in the state to warrant it.

The House also passed a bill providing for the establishment of alternative dispute resolution in the state.

Ondo Assembly declares ex-Deputy Speaker, Ogundeji’s seat vacant

Ondo State House of Assembly, on Thursday, sacked its former Deputy Speaker, Iroju Ogundeji, over his defection to Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and declared his seat vacant.

The assembly, presided over by the Speaker, Bamidele Oleyelogun, called on Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct by election in Odigbo constituency I within 90 days.

Clerk of the assembly, Jayeola Benjamin, had read a letter written by the APC Chairman in the state, Ade Adetimehin, requesting the House to declare Ogundeji’s seat vacant.

Adetimehin said that the request was sequel to the letter written to the party by Ogundeji on March 19, notifying it of its resignation from the party.

Ogundeji, who was elected on the platform of the party to represent Odigbo constituency I in the assembly in 2019, had said that he had registered as a member of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The APC chairman quoted Section 109 of 1999 Constitution as stating that any lawmaker who became a member of any political party other than the one under whose platform he was elected into the assembly must vacate his seat.

Majority Leader of the assembly, Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi (APC-Owo II), therefore, moved a motion that Ogundeji’s seat should be declared vacant and was seconded by Deputy Speaker, Samuel Aderoboye (Odigbo II).

The speaker then declared the former deputy speaker’s seat vacant, based on APC’s letter, and in accordance with the constitution.

He directed that a letter be written to INEC to conduct a by election in the constituency within 90 days.

Oleyelogun also directed that Ogundeji’s benefits and entitlements be stopped forthwith and that all the government property in his possession be returned to the assembly immediately.

In his reaction to the development, Ogundeji, however, said that the assembly had acted contrary to the order of the court.

Ogundeji, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), maintained that he was no longer a member of APC.

He said that he decided to join PDP, owing to what he called division in the ruling party.

“APC deregistered me during its registration exercise sometime last year and I have to belong to a political party. That was why I join PDP.

“It is no longer news that the matter is already before a court of competent jurisdiction, that is, a Federal High Court.

“The court had served the speaker, through the clerk of the house, notice against declaring my seat vacant and that no action should be taken in respect of the matter.

“So, if it is true that they have declared my seat vacant, then they have acted in contravention of the court order, which is tantamount to contempt of court,” Ogundeji said.

Ondo Assembly reinstates four suspended members

The Ondo State House of Assembly has announced the reinstatement of four suspended members of the House.

Speaker of the House, Bamidele Oleyelogun, announced this on Monday while presiding over the plenary at the legislative chamber of the Assembly complex in Akure, the state capital.

The reinstated lawmakers include a former deputy speaker, Iroju Ogundeji (Odigbo I Constituency), as well as Favour Tomomewo (Ilaje II Constituency), Adewinle Adewale (Ondo West II Constituency), and Akinrindibo Leonard (Ondo West I Constituency).

Trouble started about six months ago in the build-up to the October 10 governorship election in the state.

This was triggered by the defection of the deputy governor, Agboola Ajayi, from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and later to Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) where he contested the poll.

Following his exit from the ruling party, the Assembly served a notice of impeachment on the deputy governor on July 7, citing allegations of gross misconduct.

But the four reinstated lawmakers and five others refused to sign the impeachment process of Agboola.

After the lawmakers were suspended, they later sued the Assembly before an Ondo State High Court in Akure which ordered their reinstatement.

Justice Ademola Bola who presided over the case had also ordered the Assembly’s leadership to pay each of the lawmakers N5 million for suspending them unlawfully.

Rather than obeying, the Assembly leadership filed a suit at the Court of Appeal seeking to stay the order of the lower court.

It, however, lost the case as the appellate court upheld the decision of the lower court.

[TNG Analysis] Ondo 2020: Finally, Akeredolu bares his fangs as state Assembly suspends Dep Speaker

    By Emman Ovuakporie

Finally, Governor of Ondo state Rotimi Akeredolu in cohort with the state Assembly have succeeded in suspending the deputy speaker, Hon Irioju Ogundeji alongside Adewale Williams.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) in this brief analysis x-rays the many political battles the embattled governor is fighting to remain afloat.

Both lawmakers were among the nine lawmakers that kicked against impeachment move against Deputy Governor of the state, Hon Agboola Ajayi on Tuesday.

Recall that Ajayi had defected to the main opposition party in Nigeria, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP to slug it out with his former boss in the forthcoming guber election in the state.
Also, Ajayi had raised an alarm that his principal was hell bent in greasing the palms of the state Assembly lawmakers to ensure he is impeached.

In the last three days the assembly has been making frantic efforts to perfect impeachment of Ajayi.

On Tuesday, the state Assembly issued an impeachment notice to Ajayi and nine members also notified the assembly that they are not part of the kangaroo arrangements.

On Wednesday two lawmakers were suspended apparently to get the required figures to impeach Ajayi.

Since Ajayi defected, Akeredolu has not known peace fighting his powerless deputy who had relocated from APC to PDP to seek a fresh lease of life to better his political future.

He had sacked all his deputy’s ploitical aides and by last Monday his SSG, Sunday Abegunde fired Akeredolu and narrated how his principal never in the first place won the 2016 guber polls in the state.

Abegunde has equally vowed not to leave APC as he would rather remain behind in the party to fight against Akeredolu.
This is one battle that the embattled governor may not be able to fight as the former SSG will spill more beans and plant mines on the path of Akeredolu.

As the immediate past SSG there maybe more secrets to expose that may turn the tables against the governor.

The forces mounting against the Sunshine State Governor are becoming larger than life as on a daily basis more political enemies are emerging.

At this point, Akeredolu does not really need enemies rather he should be fishing for political allies.
