Ondo CJ breaks silence on alleged involvement in brother’s predicament, three-year jail term without trial

The Chief Judge of Ondo State, Justice Olanrewaju Akeredolu, has reacted to allegations against her by Mr. Olupelumi Fagboyegun.

Fagboyegun who claimed to be the CJ’s brother in a viral video said she (CJ) ordered his remand for three years without trial.

He therefore called on Nigerians to assist him to get justice on the matter, alleging that the CJ was using her power on him.

In a reaction posted on thenigerialawyer.com, Justice Akeredolu denied the allegation leveled against her by Fagboyegun, saying the matter was the handiwork of some persons who were using Fagboyegun against her family.

She also said Fagboyegun had a paternity issue with her family.

She said two years after her father died, somebody bearing his name filed a suit against her mum, two of her brothers, and the eldest male of her father’s family, stating that they should exhume her father’s body and do a DNA because Olupelumi alleges to be her father’s son.

She said he (Olupelumi) filed a Writ of Summons which was served on her mum which itself made her mum felt agitated and embarrassed.

According to her, a lawyer who filed the Writ told her that Fagboyegun alleged that he was born in the household of her grandmother; and that, his mother was living with her (CJ) grandmother when he was born.

She said, “One or two years after my mum died, he went to one of my father’s premises, where my cousin wanted to establish a poultry farm. One morning, he went with thugs wielding cutlasses but he was prevented from entering the premises.”

She alleged that Olupelumi also came with thugs and cutlass wanting to take over one of their premises, adding that her cousin responded by inviting the police to arrest him.

Impeachment: Ondo CJ declines Assembly’s requests to set up panel on Deputy Gov

The ongoing move to impeach Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Hon Agboola Ajayi, has been stalled following refusal of the Chief Judge of the State, Justice Olaranwaju Akeredolu, to set up a seven-man investigative panel.

Speaker Bamidele Oleyelogun had written to the Chief Judge that impeachment notice has been served on Hon Ajayi.

A total of 14 lawmakers signed an impeachment notice against Ajayi.

Speaker Oleyelogun informed Justice Akeredolu that setting up of the panel was in line with section 188 (5) of the 1999 Constitution as amended.

A letter to the CJ and signed by the Speaker reads: “By the Resolution of the House today pursuant to Section 188 (3) and (4) of the 1999 Constitution as amended it was resolved that the allegations be investigated forthwith.

“It is in line with the above that request that you set up the 7-man panel to conduct the investigation as resolved by the Honourable House and the Panel, shall soon as possible, report back to the House.”

But the Justice Akeredolu, in a letter dated July 9 and addressed to the Speaker, said the lawmakers have not completed the constitutional process that would lead the Speaker to invite her to set up an investigative panel as stipulated by the Constitution.

Akeredolu said she also received a letter from Kayode Olatoke SAN that the matter of the impeachment of Ajayi was subjudice.
