According to the CP, the victim was kidnapped on May 14, 2025, around Iku Quarters, Ikare-Akoko.

“He was rescued by a combined tactical team of operatives from the command and hunters based in the area.

“One of the suspects involved in the abduction was arrested while the victim was rescued alive and unhurt without paying any ransom.

“He is currently receiving treatment for gunshot wounds at the state Specialist Hospital. Efforts are ongoing to track and apprehend the fleeing suspects who escaped with injuries,” he said.

Just In: Kidnappers kill APC chairman after collecting ₦5 million ransom

Nelson Adepoyigi, a chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ose Local Government Area,  has been murdered by his abductors despite payment of ransom.

TheNewsGuru reports that Adepoyigi was abducted on Monday, May 12th while attempting to park his vehicle at his residence in Ifon.

The kidnappers, in the days following his capture, initially demanded a ransom of ₦100 million, but after extensive negotiation and community appeals, the amount was reduced to ₦5 million.

Following the arrangements, two residents of Ifon volunteered to deliver the agreed ransom sum, but upon reaching the abductors, they were also seized. The kidnappers then demanded an additional ₦30 million for the release of all three individuals.

Though the two volunteers were eventually freed, community sources revealed a chilling claim by the kidnappers: that Adepoyigi had already been marked for execution by those allegedly orchestrating the abduction.

Confirming the tragic incident, the Chairman of Ose Local Government, Kolapo Ojo, expressed deep concern over the worsening state of security in the area. “This pattern of brazen abductions, even at the very gates of people’s homes, confirms that insecurity has taken a dangerous and intolerable dimension.”

He further urged residents to be proactive in safeguarding their communities: “We urge our people to remain vigilant, promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest security post, and stand united as we work together to overcome this threat,” he said.

“I don’t have any update about who was kidnapped again when they wanted to pay ransom.

“And I don’t know if there’s any attempt of ransom negotiation. All I know is that our men have been combing bushes and doing all they can to rescue the victim.

“So, I did not know anything about ransom negotiations,” he said.

It was gathered that the kidnappers had seized two persons who volunteered to deliver N5 million ransom and food items for the release of the APC chieftain.

A family source who pleaded anonymity, said that the kidnappers had earlier demanded N100 million and reduced it to N5 million and food items.

He explained that the abductors were now demanding another N30 million ransom to release the APC chieftain and the seized two volunteers; Bayode Loco and Isimeri.

“Mr Bayode Loco and Isimeri took the ransom to them as agreed during negotiations but are now being held by the same kidnappers.

“They(kidnappers) have now turned around to demand a fresh N30 million ransom before they can release them,” the source disclosed.

The Chairman of Ose Local Government, Mr Kolapo Ojo, confirmed the earlier negotiations saying the ransom had been reduced to N5 million and food items.

Dr Samuel Ibitoye, FRSC State Sector Commander, disclosed this during the 8th United Nations (UN) Road Safety Week held in Akure, with the theme: Streets For Life #Make Walking Safe # Make Cycling Safe.

Ibitoye said the figures recorded had increased compared to the number of cases, deaths and injuries in the first quarter of 2024.

The sector commander attributed the increase in the figure to speeding, dangerous driving, overloading, fatigue, bad roads, host issues, impatience and disregard to vehicle care.

He noted the need for reflection in the attitude of road users and other stakeholders

“Those killed include 39 male adults, 13 female adults and one female child in the first quarter of 2025.

“But in the first quarter of 2024, 33 people were killed, comprising of 24 males, eight females and one female child, while 237 people were injured in the 74 cases recorded.

“These statistics remain horrendous and worrisome necessitating all stakeholders to reflect on the repugnant occurrence.

“So, there is need to reflect on our attitude as road users, government, policy makers, engineers, designers of the roads, and vehicles.

“Other mobility components, Civil Society Organisations are necessary to bring a change in road safety administration and road traffic management to reduce unnecessary deaths on the roads,” Ibitoye said.

He, therefore, called on drivers, pedestrians and passengers to evolve a change in behavior, and urged road users to exhibit positive attitudes for a reduction in the occurrence of RTC’s.

“Drivers are admonished to desist from drunk driving, road rage and speeding on the road to reduce RTC’s, especially the commercial drivers.

“I also commend Gov. Lucky Aiyedatiwa for his concerted exertions to improve mobility and enable the drivers geared at reducing RTC’s in the state.

“I also urge contractors involved in road construction and rehabilitation for government at all levels, to take into cognisance the incorporation of cycling lanes and walkways.

“This will enable non-motorised component of the intermodal transport system, boost trade, reduce traffic congestion, enhance healthy lifestyles of people, reduce carbon monoxide emission while assisting a desired ozone layer,” he said.

Also, Mr Kareem Tajudeen, Deputy Secretary, Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), and Mr Adeniyi Oyedapo, Vice Chairman, National Road Transport Worker (NURTW), commended the command’s efforts to reduce crashes on highways in the state.

Many people saw it – Father of girl killed in Akure by President Tinubu wife’s convoy breaks silence

A father of a nine-year-old daughter, Saratul Lawal, who was reportedly killed by a vehicle in the convoy of Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, during her official visit to Akure, Ondo State has shared the painful story of his daughter’s death.

Speaking in an emotional interview with SaharaReporters on Friday, the father recounted how he was alerted by eyewitnesses, primarily members of the Yoruba community, who claimed that a vehicle from the First Lady’s convoy was responsible for crushing his daughter.

“Yesterday, I was on the road, I stood by the road and saw them when they were going to the airport to carry the President’s wife. I saw the convoy when they were coming back too. But when the incident happened, I was not at that particular spot.”

“It did not happen in my presence. It was people who saw it that came to call me, saying one of my daughters had been killed on the road. By the time I rushed there, they had already taken her to the hospital,” he said.

Despite the heartache, the father expressed reluctance to accuse the First Lady’s convoy without concrete evidence directly.

He said, “People were telling me to go to the government house to tell them their convoy killed my daughter. I said I can’t do that. What I did not see with my own eyes, I can’t say it was them or not. But many people, the Yoruba people, said they saw it—that it was the convoy.”

The bereaved father revealed that his daughter’s name was Saratul, a nine-year-old pupil at an Islamic school in Shasha, Akure.

While initial reports suggested she was seven years old, the father clarified, saying, “Her name was Saratul. She was nine years old.”

He added, “Me, I fear God. All of us will die one day. So I won’t lie. It’s the people around the police station, those opposite the station, that saw how the vehicle killed her.”
