DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, the command’s spokesman, who confirmed the incident to NAN on Thursday in Ore, said that efforts were ongoing to identify the culprits of the heinous crime.

Ayanlade explained that operatives have been deployed to the community to apprehend the perpetrators.

He said that the corpses have been evacuated by the police and deposited at the Ore General Hospital morgue.

“I can confirm to you that three bodies were recovered at a river in Odigbo and immediately it was reported at the Ore Division.

“The DPO moved a detective to the scene where the three headless bodies were recovered.

“Community leaders and other interest groups have been invited to identify the corpses but unfortunately the bodies are yet to be identified.

Ondo workers will resist planned demolition of staff quarters – NLC

The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) in Ondo State has vowed to resist the planned demolition of staff quarters in Alagbaka, Akure, by the state government.

The state Chairman of NLC, Ademola Olapade, made this known during the inauguration of the executive members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ondo State Council, on Wednesday in Akure.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Leke Adegbite and Meshack Olaoluwa were re-elected unopposed as the chairman and secretary of the council, respectively.

The NLC chairman said that the move to demolish the staff quarters for urban renewal projects would cause friction between the state government and the organised labour.

He noted that that there was no prior meeting and conversation between the labour unions and the state government to discuss the modalities for the demolition of the Alagbaka staff quarters.

“Government must do everything to leave our members in the quarters. The place should not be demolished because our members live there.

“We are talking of over 156 units with over 600 people living there. So, government cannot just ask them to leave in a jiffy, giving them a week, a month, but must come up with something better.

“Organised Labour in Ondo State will resist any move by the state government to make the occupants of Alagbaka staff quarters homeless,” he stated.

He urged the new NUJ executive in the state to continue to protect the interest of its members and be a voice for the voiceless.

Responding, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ebenezer Adeniyan, said that the policy of the government to go into regeneration of the entire Government Reservation Area (GRA) was for the beatification of the state capital.

“The Alagbaka staff quarters is an estate of 40 years ago that must be renovated. The renovation started with the government house last year, so it is not new and it is important.

“What the government is doing is to give a new look to the state capital starting with Alagbaka Area, the seat of power.

“We cannot leave the area with such dilapidated structures for years. As a matter of fact, some of the occupants of the place could not even maintain them.

“From observation, 70 per cent of the occupants are not even supposed be there because the place is meant for low salary earners,” he said.

Adeniyan promised that the affected occupants would be compensated for relocation by the state government.

He urged the organised labour to engage the government for proper understanding instead of resisting the move.

Adeniyan, while congratulating the new chairman of NUJ and other executive members in the state, appreciated the “robust relationship” between the state government and the leadership of the union.

In his acceptance speech, Adegbite appreciated God and union members for the opportunity given to him to serve.

He promised that there would be consolidation on the achievements of the leadership council, especially in the area of capacity building for members.

It’s difficult working with individuals on personal gain – Spokesperson quits PDP

The spokesperson of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State, Mr Kennedy Peretei, has resigned, citing personal interests hijacking the party’s core purpose.

In a letter to the Chairman of PDP, Arogbo 1 Ward, Ese-Odo Local Government, Peretei blamed the leadership’s indifference toward winning elections.

He wrote: “I’ve decided to quit the PDP, as its supposed leaders have no real intention of winning any elections, now or in the future.

“It’s difficult working with individuals focused solely on personal gain, using the party as a political marketplace every election cycle.”

Peretei noted he had served as the State Financial Secretary (1999–2003) and State Publicity Secretary from 2020 till date.

“I’ve contributed significantly, yet the same people have gripped the party tightly, causing repeated electoral failures over three cycles,” he stated.

He likened the party’s current state to one in an intensive care unit, now heading toward the morgue.

He criticised those using the PDP as a financial lifeline, urging them to find alternative means of livelihood.

“To those surviving on election funds and patronage, I advise finding second addresses to live more meaningful lives, not as political bandits or ‘Yes’ men,” he said.

Police in Ondo State have recovered three headless, decomposing bodies from a river along the Odigbo-Ore Road.

Confirming the incident, spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, Alayande Olayinka, stated that the bodies have been taken to the mortuary. He explained that once the report reached the Ore Division, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) immediately dispatched detectives to the scene.

“The DPO ordered the recovery of the bodies and their transfer to the morgue. He also called on community leaders and interest groups to assist in identifying the victims. So far, no one has come forward with any information,” Olayinka said.

He further noted that investigators believe the victims were killed elsewhere and their bodies dumped in the river, possibly by unknown assailants.

“The location borders other states like Ogun and Edo. There’s a strong possibility the bodies were not from Ondo but were brought in and abandoned at that spot. The river may have even carried them downstream,” he added.
