“We the Democrats wish to thank the independent National Electoral Commission(INEC), for conducting a free, fair and credible election in Edo state.

“Besides, we appreciate President Buhari’s role for his non-interference with the electoral processes.

“We also appreciate our security forces for their role in keeping the peace and thus uproviding a violent-free environment for the election”, the socio-political activist stated.

Chief Onitiri white calling on President Buhari to sign the electoral act into law, emphasised that elections in Nigeria do not deserve the blood of any Nigerian.

According to Onitiri, the Edo people have successfully put an end to godfatherism in our politic. Let the votes of the people count. We urge INEC to let the people’s votes also count in Ondo and other states of the federation.

Ondo people should also replicate what happened in Edo on October 10, this year, so that we Nigerians can return to genuine democracy, added.

Onitiri applauds Sanwo-Olu over timely action on Coronavirus

Governor Babajide SanwoOlu of Lagos State has been given a pat for the timely steps taken so far by the government on the coronavirus outbreak in Lagos state.

In a press release in Lagos yesterday, renowned socio-political activist, Chief Adesunbo Onitiri said SanwoOlu deserves to be commended for this positive action by all Lagos residents.

“But the Lagos State Government can still do more as Lagosians deserve more.
No doubt the disease is a serious and deadly one that deserves serious attention.

“We implore the Governor to ensure that necessary drugs and preventive equipments are provided in all our hospitals in the state.”

According to Chief Onitiri, there is need for improved health standards in the collection and disposal of wastes in the state.

“All drainages should be well cleaned and kept in good sanitation. The government should improve on good potable water for the citizens. There should be aggressive public enlightenment on sanitation.”

Above all, he said, the government should provide sanitizer, face masks and gloves free in all government hospitals, public schools and public centres et cetera.

Prevention, Chief Onitiri emphasised, is better than cure. The social critic added that all flights coming from China should not be allowed to land in Lagos, so as to protect all Lagosians from the scourge of Coronavirus disease.
In addition, Chief Onitiri advised Lagosians to abide by the government’s instructions not to panic but wash their hands more regularly and keep their environment very clean always.
“We cannot afford this epidemic to destroy our economy, population and social life. As we defeat Ebola so we shall defeat Coronavirus, alias COVID 19”, he added.

Onitiri calls for new approach to solve nation’s problems

Lagos-based socio-political activist, Chief Adesunbo Onitiri has called for a new approach to resolving the nation’s current humongous security and economic problems.

He said there is need for leaders of thoughts, traditional and religious leaders from all the six geo-political zones of the country to meet and chart a new course for Nigeria.

They should proffer suggestions and solutions that would assist the Federal Government to subdue all these challenges in order for the citizens to live peacefully anywhere in any part of the country, he said.

In a statement in Lagos yesterday, Chief Onitiri noted that the Federal Government has not been hard on the criminals creating the problems of insecurity, kidnapping, banditry, cattle-rusting, cultism, robbery, herdsmen, and a lot of others.
Presently, he noted, the herdsmen are having the field-day all over the country as if they have the backing of the government to enter and destroy people’s farms without being challenged.

“This group of Nigerans creating problems for the farmers are supposed to be declared terrorists group by the Federal Government. They operate every where as if they own Nigeria.

“In actual fact, one needs to agree with the Northern Elders Forum, headed by Professor Ango Abdulahi that the Federal government has not taken the bull by the horn to secure and pilot the affairs of the Nigerian nation in particular, in terms of security of lives and property of Nigerians”

The socio-political critic said: “I join other Nigerians to call for the immediate removal of all the country’s service chiefs who had spent over four years in office. They have done their best and they should leave the office for other younger officers with fresh ideas.”

Chief Onitiri called on all patriotic democrats of Nigeria and leaders of thoughts nationwide, organized labour and business community to rise up to the occasion and save the nation from total collapse by the operations of Boko Haram and armed bandits.

“The present administration has not lived to expectation in fighting corruption adequately by being selective in who or not to prosecute. Alas! corruption thrives in the country more than before as pronounced by the Transparency. On the economic front, Nigeria is rated as the world’s poverty capital, ranking third as the world’s poorest nation. This is not good for our country’s image.

“We urge the Nigerian Bar Association(NBA) Nigerian Labour Congress(NLC) Nigeria Union of Journalists(NUJ), the student’s union, and all Human rights organisations not to keep quiet, while the nation is drifting.

“This is not the country our heroes past beget to us. We should rescue it because we have no other country we can call our own.”,Chief Onitiri, socio-political activist added.

  • Face Governance, Onitiri counsels Sanwo-Olu

Political/social activist,Chief Adesunbo Onitiri has advised Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State to face Governance with all seriousness it deserves.

In a statement in Lagos yesterday, the erudite, politician noted that since Lagosians trooped out to elect Governor SanwoOlu, nothing tangible has happened in the state.

“There are myriad of problems such as security, sanitation, traffic jams everywhere, housing, bad roads, new minimum wage, youth unemployment, and several others dying for solution.”

According to Chief Onitiri, since last month 100-day celebrations of all political office holders, till date, there was little or nothing to celebrate in the Centre of Excellence state. Now that the rains are here most of the major roads in Lagos are impassable and flooded.

“We are yet to see the election promises of the Governor fulfilled. The Lagos – Badagry Express road is now worse off. Only bikes play the road. No vehicle can play the road. Seems people of Badagry are now cut off from civilisation.

“The Ajah – ibeju Lekki is totally bad, always flooded and filled with pot holes. The Apapa gridlock is still very much present. Most roads in Lagos are flooded and covered with pot holes.
“All the projects of former Govervor Akinwunmi Ambode are now left uncompleted and abandoned. We wish to call on Governor Sanwo-Olu to face Governance and stop hounding his predecessor”

According to Chief Onitiri, Governors Babatunde Fashola and Ambode have set high standards, taking a cue from our former Action Governor Alhaji Lateef Jakande.

The Lagosian cried out: “We wish to call on Governor Sanwo-Olu to face Governance and do the needful. Please this is a clarion call that you should fulfil your electoral promises,” Chief Onitiri pleaded.

  • Olakunrin: Denounce your membership of Miyetti Allah or resign as Nigeria's president, Onitiri tells Buhari

The Lagos Central senatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 general elections, Chief Sunbo Onitiri has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to either stick to his membership of Miyetti Allah group and resign as the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria or retain his position and openly denounce his membership of the Miyetti Allah group.
Onitiri said this on Sunday in a statement sent to TNG.
Onitiri’s statement is coming in the wake of the murder of the daughter of the pan Yoruba cultural group, Afenifere; Pa Reuben Fasoranti.
The late Mrs. Funke Olakunrin was on Friday evening murdered in cold blood allegedly by Fulani herdsmen. The murder has generated national outrage and President Muhammadu Buhari had since ordered security agencies to fish out the killers.
    Read full statement below:
RESIGN NOW AS MEMBER OF MIYETTALLAH OR RESIGN AS PRESIDENT OF NIGERIA AND DECLARE FULANI KILLER HERDSMEN A TERRORIST GROUP.
I wish to implore President Buhari to disown and immediately resign as a member of the dreaded Miyett Allah group or resign as President of Nigeria as membership of such dreaded group is in conflict with the constitutional role of protecting lives and properties of Nigerians.
You would all recall that on May 29th 2019 PMB openly swore on oath before all Nigerians to protect all Nigerians and defend the Constitution of the federal Republic of Nigeria. As we speak The security of all Nigerians is totally being compromised and it’s in imminent danger.
The terrorist Fulani killer Herdsmen have laid siege on our highways and forests with our security agencies looking the other way. The bandits not only kidnap but open fire on innocent and defenceless Nigerians.
The imminent question that comes to mind is do we have our Security agencies on the side of Nigerians? Then how come that these bandits get away with the mindless killings they unleashed on hapless Nigerians. The killing of Mrs Funke Olakunrin is a death too many. It is an affront on the women fold, an affront on all defenceless people of Nigeria which we should all rise to condemn and call to question the loyalty of our so called Nigerian Army. We have spent our huge resources on our security agencies and till today they take a lion share of our annual budget. Is this what we pay for?.
The primary duty of every responsible government is to protect the lives and properties of its citizens . You would all agree with me that this government has failed woefully in combating the Boko Haram, kidnappers, Fulani killer Herdsmen and other bandits. The insecurity in our country has worsen since PMB took over. We heard that the killer Fulani Herdsmen have organised cells in the South West, South East and South South asides their already well established cells in the North. This means that the Fulanisation of Nigeria is almost complete. Nigeria is under siege while our security agencies look the other way.
We stand on the Constitution of the federal Republic of Nigeria and call on President Buhari to declare Fulani killer Herdsmen a Terrorist Group and wipe out all its cells in our highways and forests. Nigeria is not home to all Fulanis in Africa. The Jihad must stop. Enough of killings of innocent Nigerians.

  • Resign now over poor performance, Onitiri tells Yakubu, INEC Boss

Resign now over poor performance, Onitiri tells Yakubu, INEC Boss

The PDP Lagos Central senatorial candidate Chief Sunbo Onitiri has condemned the INEC’s role in the last Governorship and state Assembly elections .

In a statement made in Lagos yesterday, Chief Onitiri said INEC has got it all wrong and lost its remaining credibility.

“INEC has lost it all with the last Presidential and National Assembly elections which made people to stay away from the Governorship and State Assembly elections. This is a clear indication of silent protest by Nigerian voters in the sanctity of the election and a loss of faith in INEC”.

“The voter apathy experienced in the Governorship elections last Saturday is a vote of no confidence in INEC and our democratic process. It’s now an indisputable fact that our votes will never count”, Chief Onitiri alleged.

He called on all patriotic Nigerians to prevail on President Muhammadu Buhari to urgently organise a National Referendum on our Democratic process .

“I wish to condemn the hounding and arbitrary harassment and arrests of the opposition whereas members of the ruling party continue to violate the electoral laws with impunity and ignominy.

“By the two elections of Presidential and Governorship elections, INEC has succeeded in wasting our huge resources, bastardise our democratic process and insulted our collective intelligence as a Nation. INEC has lost its remaining credibility, Chief Onitiri decried.

Sunbo Onitiri said the last Governorship and state Assembly elections were characterised with ballot box snatching, killing and maiming of particular party agents, militarization of voting process, over -voting etc .

He alleged that the elections were predetermined by the ruling party before it was held.

“What a shame of a Nation! Our elections do not deserve the blood of innocent Nigerian people. We should borrow from the exemplary lesson of our patriotic former President, Goodluck Jonathan that conceded victory willingly before the process was concluded.

“This country belongs to us all and no one is greater than Nigeria. Nobody can freely suppress the will of the people and rule Nigerians by force. Nigeria we hail thee!”

Onitiri therefore called on the chairman of INEC Prof. Mahmud Yakubu to honourably resign his position and apologise to the country for giving Nigerians the most “fraudulent, compromised and scandalous “elections Nigeria ever had in the history of her democracy.

  • Nigeria @57: Our problem in Nigeria is bad leadership not corruption – Onitiri

A social commentator, Chief Adesunbo Onitiri has said Nigeria’s myriad of problems is caused by bad leadership and not corruption as made to believe by the ruling class.

Onitiri stated this in his independence message to Nigerians on Thursday.

He also advised President Muhammadu Buhari to cut down cost of running governance in Nigeria.

Onitiri, an accomplished and reputable Estate Surveyor/Valuer noted that Nigerians have not yet to feel the impact of good governance in the country because the cost of maintaining public office holders is too high.

His statement reads in full: “President Buhari should raise new generation of visionary, patriotic and committed politicians that will take us to the promised land.

Our present political structure has been taken over by looters, vagabonds and thugs who don’t mean well for our country.

Besides, President Buhari should cut down on the cost of governance, slash down salaries and entitlements of political office holders especially the take-home pay of National Assembly members.

He should strive to plug all loopholes and conduit pipes in government so that it will be difficult to steal by politicians and government officials.

The problem of Nigeria is visionary Leadership and NOT CORRUPTION.

The Presidency should ensure that all strategic public appointments are distributed equally amongst the six geographical zones so that no zone is marginalized. The Presidency should promptly attend to all genuine agitations of marginalization and nepotisms.

Happy independent anniversary and God bless Nigeria.
