Buhari speaks on cure, answer to insecurity in Nigeria

President Muhammadu Buhari says no responsive government can ignore the role of religious and traditional rulers in tackling insecurity in the country.

Speaking at an Iftar dinner with religious and traditional rulers on Thursday in Abuja, the President said his administration would continue to count on the invaluable advice and guidance of members of the revered institutions toward improving the current security challenges in the country.

According to him, moving Nigeria forward remains a collective responsibility, urging leaders at all levels to contribute meaningfully in making the country a better place.

”Today, insecurity is one of the greatest challenges facing Nigeria’s existence. This administration has invested more resources than any other to tackle insecurity.

”We have acquired advanced equipment for our armed forces and the police to strengthen their capacity to confront terrorism and banditry. We have made adequate budgetary allocations for security.

”Whatever the security agencies request I make it available to them immediately.

”But insecurity is a world-wide phenomenon. The cure and the answer is for all sections of society to do their bit and confront the criminals head-on.

”The success of our armed and other security forces also depends on intelligence about the activities of bandits and terrorists.

”Those aiding and abetting terrorists are helping to destroy their own communities.

”Our traditional and religious leaders have a key role to play in terms of improving intelligence gathering about the movement of and activities of criminals in their domain,” he said.

According to the president, the challenges confronting the country are surmountable.

He recounted that when this administration came on board in 2015, the local governments occupied and controlled by insurgent terrorists were recovered through the determined efforts of government and cooperation of local leadership.

”A similar effort is required now for all localities to work in full cooperation with security agents and Insha Allah we shall see the back of this problem soon,” he said.

Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ooni of Ife, commended the Buhari administration’s timely response in curtailing the spread of COVID-19 pandemic.

According to him, it is symbolic that when the country looks inward it can surmount many of its challenges.

”Mr President, thank you for inviting us for Iftar. I remember vividly that last year we couldn’t meet to break the Ramadan fast because of the COVID-19 pandemic and we pray that such will never come our way again,” he said.

The Ooni of Ife urged Nigerians to use the Holy month of Ramadan to always strive for unity, and celebrate the strength in Nigeria’s diversity.

”We have so many positives to celebrate in our country. Yes there are challenges but let us look more on our strengths than our weaknesses,” he said.

The General Secretary, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Joseph Daramola, said he believed that ”God is at work in Nigeria,”

He stated that there were spiritual lessons to learn on nation building from the Muslim Holy month of Ramadan and the Christian Lenten period that just ended with the Easter celebration.

”The power that raised Jesus Christ from the dead is able to bring our nation back to life, making every situation that looks impossible, possible,” the CAN scribe said.

2023: Rotimi Amaechi storms Ile- Ife to consult Ooni

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has equated leadership positions to that of a steward, who is meant to serve others.

Ogunwusi stated on Monday this at his Ile Oodua Palace, Enuwa, Ile-Ife, while playing host to the Minister of Transportation, Mr Rotimi Amaechi.

The minister, who led a high-powered team to Ile-Ife, was on a courtesy visit to the Ooni as part of his presidential bid consultation.

The Ooni described the minister as one of the luckiest politicians in the country, pointing out that Nigerians had a lot to gain from his wealth of experience.

“You have been relevant since the start of this republic; it is for a reason and I urge you to use that grace for the betterment of all Nigerians.

“What is obvious in your team is the inclusion of women, I am proud of this and I want you to keep doing more in this regard.

“Women are so powerful, especially when given leadership opportunities, they see what we men do not see,” the Ooni said.

Earlier in his address, Amaechi lauded the oba for preserving and upholding the prestigious Yoruba culture.

He said that governance of the country had a lot to benefit from the traditional institution.

He said that he decided to start his consultation and visitation from Ile-Ife because “the ancient city is the Source.

“If elected as Nigeria’s president in 2023, I will sit down with the National Assembly to address the relevance of the traditional institution in Nigeria.

“There is need to consult our traditional rulers in order to bring governance closer to the people,” the presidential aspirant said.

On his presidential ambition, Amaechi, who is 56-year-old, described himself as the bridge between the young and the older generations in the country, adding that he was the most qualified.

“With due respect to my brothers in APC, PDP and other political parties, I am the most qualified in this present race.

“I am grateful to God for the opportunities given to me over the years,” he he said.

The Chairman, Senate Committee on Army, Sen. Ali Ndume, who is the chair of Amaechi campaign team, led other dignitaries to the palace.

Palace reacts to Queen Naomi’s divorce from Ooni of Ife

The palace of Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has reacted to the trending report of Queen Naomi’s divorce from the Yoruba monarch.

It denied knowledge of the report that the marriage between the monarch and his wife has ended.

Queen Naomi had announced through her social media handles on Thursday that her marriage to Ogunwusi has ended.

But in his first official reaction to the claim, the Director of Media and Strategy, Ooni’s palace, Moses Olafare, said as of Wednesday evening, Ogunwusi and Naomi went to bed as husband and wife.

According to him, separation in marriage cannot be done by one of the parties, stressing that probe will be launched into whether or not Instagram page of Naomi was hacked.

Olafare, during an interview with our correspondent, said, “Separation is a two-way affair, it is not something that is announced by one party. The announcement of separation is subject to agreement by both parties.

“The palace is not aware of such separation because we all went to bed last night (Wednesday) the two being the king and queen.

“So, if by this morning, the queen went to social media to write that she is no longer in marriage with Ooni, we will look into it to see whether or not the Instagram page truly belongs to her, and to know the reason behind it.

“But as of today, this moment, the palace is not aware of the separation. Marriage is a private affair, no matter how prominent the personalities involved, it is a private affair.

“We will dig deeper and know what happened, but like I said, all of us just woke up to read about the separation on social media.

Even by this time yesterday, (Wednesday) kabiyesi was still packaging special gift for her.

“If you want to separate with someone, you cannot be packaging gift for her. I was aware that Kabiyesi was putting special Christmas gift together for her. If he is not in love with her, he cannot be doing that. In fact, the Christmas gift has been delivered to her already.”

Ooni of Ife is not who he claims he is – Ex-Queen of Ife, Naomi

Naomi Silekunola Oluwaseyi, third wife of Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi has said the Ooni of Ife is not who he claims he is.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Naomi, who married the Ooni of Ife in October 2018, stated this on Thursday via an Instagram post announcing her separation from the monarch.

Naomi stressed that His Majesty has a picture he would love the world to see and perceive him as and another one which is his true self.

Speaking on her separation from the Ooni, Naomi stated that she no longer wants to be referred to as wife to the Ooni of Ife or as Queen of lle-Ife.

Naomi, a prophetess, who runs an interdenominational ministry based in Akure, Ondo State, stated that she made the journey into the ancient throne of Ife with faith in her heart and love for the keeper of it.

She cleared the air that teligion was never an issue between herself and the Ooni, and that a girl, who is is being said to be her daughter, is not her daughter, but her niece.

Naomi’s Instagram post announcing her separation from the Ooni reads: “I bless the Lord almighty for His faithfulness in the last 3years of my marriage.

“In life’s journey, it isn’t how far. Still, how well, indeed though satan should buffet if trials should come, I have this blessed assurance controlling all situations and saying to me it is well with my soul. Certainly, it is well. I made my journey into the ancient throne of Ife with faith in my heart and love for the keeper of it.

“Few impressions I would love to correct. If anyone knows otherwise, they are free to come up with facts. Let it be known that this decision to move on did not come because his majesty is married to another queen. As many would love to assume, throughout our life as a couple, I was the only married wife to him. There were side attractions, but it was never an issue. I never approached him with any revelation of any sort, as many believed he contacted me first and made his proposal known several months later.

“The marriage was not an arranged one, as many have misconstrued. I never knew the prophetess said to have introduced me to him. Instead, he introduced her to me after I agreed to marry him. I was only being polite out of respect for him.

“I have never been pregnant all my life before Tadenikawo; my son is my first ever pregnancy with medical reports to back it up. The girl who is said to be my daughter is my niece I did my best to endure and make it work; many times, I smiled through the struggle, but I have finally realised I had just one assignment, my son, and when God is done, He is done. He chose Saul to be king, and when He was done, He told the prophet Samuel I have moved on.

“Religion was never an issue between us; please refer to my interview on News Central TV. Instead, His Majesty has a picture he would love the world to see and perceive him as and another one which is his true self.

“Today I announce the beginning of a new dawn and the close of a chapter. Today, I am a mother to God’s unique gift. I am no longer a slave to my thoughts of perfection. I, at this moment, announce that I shall no longer be referred to as wife to the Ooni of Ife or as Queen of lle-Ife but as the Queen of the people and mother of my adorable Prince”.

TNG reports Naomi got married and became the Olori after the Ooni’s marriage to Olori Wuraola crashed in 2017.

Naomi, who is a prophetess, married the monarch in October 2018 and welcomed their son on November 18, 2020.

My daughter almost lost her life to SARS operatives -Ooni

The Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has recognized the ongoing protest against brutality and extortion by Special Anti-Robbery Squad operatives.

Ogunwusi recounted on Twitter that his 25-year-old daughter once had a horrible experience with SARS operatives that almost made her lose her life.

Tweeting through his handle, @OoniAdimulaIfe, he said, “I understand your plight, my 25 year old daughter had a nasty experience with SARS, almost losing her life. On her way to the airport, she was stopped and terribly ransacked and surrounded by fully armed plain clothes policemen in a bus, detained for close to 30 minutes of thorough questioning.

“Imagine a young female for that matter; all her belongings completely searched all because she was with a laptop on an official assignment from her office in Lagos. I can only imagine the countless ones that have lost their lives from such ordeals, may their souls rest in peace.
“I assure you that this is the beginning of greater things to come in Nigeria. I implore you to demand for more, but plead with you to do so in a peaceful manner, as anything outside of that will cause unnecessary havoc for all.”

The king said he was aware that some demonstrators had been unfairly arrested by the police.

Ogunwusi urged the police to understand that the protests would also improve the welfare of men and women of the Force and asked them to see it as such.

The monarch said: “I have been informed of many innocent souls that were arrested and currently being detained, be rest assured that I am pursuing the matter and they will be set free.

“To the men and women of the Nigerian police force, be assured that this movement is also for you, we know you are humans also and your reality is as a result of your environment.

“This movement demands better on your behalf, and is aimed at pushing the government to do better for you and elevate your standard of living. Do not persecute your advocates. God bless Nigerian youths and God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
