    Ondo NYSC orientation camp to be upgraded, says Aiyedatiwa

    Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa has said that his administration would upgrade the permanent orientation camp in Ikare-Akoko.

    Aiyedatiwa gave the assurance in his address on Tuesday during the swearing in ceremony of Batch ‘B’ (Stream 1) at the permanent orientation camp in Ikare-Akoko, Akoko North-East Local Government Area of Ondo.

    The governor also announced the return of grants and stipends for corps members which, according to the state coordinator, has eluded the state corps members over the years.

    Aiyedatiwa emphasised that his administration would continue to key into the main objective of the scheme, which is to promote unity.

    He also assured to prioritise the welfare and security of all corps members posted to the state.

    “I have received reports of the deteriorating and decrepit state of the infrastructure in the camp; I wish to assure you that we will move to maintain these facilities.

    “As a responsible and responsive government, I say without equivocation that your welfare and security would be adequately taken care of during your service year.

    “Our government will continue to support the National Youth Service Corps in the State, at all times, to ensure that you have a memorable service year,” he said.

    Aiyedatiwa, who promised to improve the electricity in the camp, urged corps members to rededicate themselves and promote things that would facilitate national development.

    “It is noteworthy that your call-up to service is coming up at a time in our national history when questions and concerns are being raised on the development and future of our youths.

    “This is therefore, a time for sober reflection on the evolution of our dear country, and your roles are catalysts for the much needed national rebirth and re-construction,” he said.

    The Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports, Hon. Saka Yusuf-Ogunleye, urged the corps members to see their posting to the state as a divine arrangement.

    Yusuf-Ogunleye urged them to explore the different opportunities in the state, including the tourism sector.

    In his welcome address, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mr Sam Pepple, appreciated the governor for being the first sitting governor to visit the camp in over 13 years.

    Pepple said 1,423 corps members comprising 607 males and 816 females had been registered for the current orientation course.

    He urged the governor to also return the payment of stipends for corps members in the state.

    Fintiri approves immediate fencing of NYSC orientation camp

    Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa has approved immediate commencement of the construction of concrete wall perimeter fencing of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp, Damare, in Girei Local Government.

    Fintiri disclosed this while declaring the 2023 Batch ’B’ Stream 1 orientation course closed at the camp on Tuesday.

    Fintiri who was represented by his Deputy, Prof. Kaletapwa Farauta, said, this is to ensure safety and security of corps members and staff.

    He enjoined the corps members to accept their postings to places of primary assignment in good faith and confront the service year with zeal and determination.

    “I particularly urge those of you posted to our primary and secondary schools to see this as a noble and golden opportunity to mentor our younger ones out there to greater heights.

    “Be informed that the state government has provided special incentives to all corps members serving as teachers in public schools.”

    According to him, “like their serving colleagues, some of them are going to assume the role of acting principals, headmasters, CMDs and so on at the various places of primary assignment.”

    Fintiri also appealed to Corps Employers to always accept and mentor Corps Members posted to them, and make the necessary provisions for their welfare to develop their potentials.

    “I also call on other stakeholders, including State and Local Government authorities as well as rulers, to give the necessary encouragement to the Corps members,” he said.

    In his address, NYSC state Coordinator, Mr Jingi Denis, appreciated Gov. Fintiri’s intervention in augmenting the feeding of corps members and camp officials with assorted foodstuffs ranging from bags of rice, vegetable oil and cows.

    He said these have gone a long way in making the camp a pleasant experience for both the corps members and camp officials.

    “Similarly, your recent directive to expedite work on the approved construction of the concrete wall perimeter fencing of this camp is another great morale booster, particularly as regards the security of the camp,” he said.

    Denis enjoined the corps members to perform their duties with diligence and be guided by the provisions of the NYSC Act and Bye-Laws as well as workplace rules and regulations.

    “Furthermore, I enjoin you to undertake personal and group Community Development Service Projects that will help to uplift the living standard of the host communities,” he said.

    No fewer than 1,442 corps members have successfully undergone and completed their orientation programme at the camp.

    NYSC 2023 Batch A stream ll orientation camp to begin on April 26

    The National Youth Service  Corp (NYSC) has announced that the 2023 Batch A stream ll orientation camp will begin Wednesday, April 26, 2023.

    NYSC orientation course takes a minimum period of three weeks which Corp members are being trained ahead of their one-year service.

    It added that the orientation course for Lagos and Federal Capital Territory will commence on May 3, 2023, while noting that some of those deployed to the FCT will have their orientation course in Nasarawa and Niger Camps. Some PCMs deployed to Lagos will have their Orientation Course in Ogun and Osun Camps.

    All prospective Corp Members are to visit the NYSC portal to get more detailed  information on their deployment.

    It added, “2023 Batch ‘A Stream II PCMs deployed to Lagos State that have been dislodged to Ogun and Osun States for their orientation course are expected to report on April 26, 2023.

    “2023 Batch ‘A Stream II PCMs deployed to FCT that have been dislodged to Nasarawa and Niger States for their Orientation Course are to report on the April 26 2023”

    Recall that the Scheme has asked married female prospective corps members posted to states other than the one their husbands reside to request redeployment

    “All married female Prospective Corps members (PCMs) who are deployed to states where their husbands are not domiciled should report to the nearest NYSC Orientation Camp for their State of Deployment to be changed.

    “They are to report during the period of registration at the Orientation Camps with copies of their marital and other relevant documents as evidence.”

    NYSC is a scheme established by the Nigerian government during the military regime on May 22, 1973, to involve Nigerian graduates in nation-building and the development of the country.

    It was established based on decree No. 24 which stated that the scheme was created “with a view to the proper encouragement and development of common ties among the youths of Nigeria and the promotion of national unity”

    Part of the Scheme’s eligibility is that a graduate must be below or not above the age of 30 years upon graduation. A graduate who graduated before 30 years but skipped the service year, will still be eligible since his certificate of graduation was dated before he clocked 30 years of age.

    However, those above 30 years get a Certificate of Exemption – an equivalent to the NYSC Discharge Certificate.

    NYSC announces Batch ‘C’ Stream One orientation camps opening date

    National Youth Service Corps, (NYSC) has announced the date for the 2022 Batch C stream One Orientation camp across the country.

    This was contained via a statement issued by the scheme on Monday, October 24th, 2022.

    The scheme has directed all prospective corp members to resume camping on 22nd November 2022.

    It said the three weeks orientation exercise would hold simultaneously in all the 36 NYSC Orientation camps across the country including the FCT, Abuja.

    “All the prospective Corps Members (including the foreign-trained) must present themselves for COVID-19 Rapid Diagnostic Test (RDT) or present evidence of full vaccination at the Camp before registration,” the statement said.

    “Prospective Corps Members are advised not to embark on night journey to the Orientation Camps in order not to endanger themselves.

    “Details of camp addresses and locations would soon be made public in the national dailies and online media.”

    It said that the NYSC Director General, Brigadier General MK Fadah, wishes all Prospective Corps Members and other stakeholders safe journey to their respective orientation camps.

    The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Gombe State has confirmed the eviction of a female corps member for failing to wear khaki trouser.

    The state NYSC Coordinator, Ada Imoni, in a statement on Friday, March 25, said the corps member “blatantly refused to wear the khaki trouser and chose to wear a khaki skirt instead at the orientation camp.

    She was made to face the camp court, found guilty and subsequently decamped in accordance to the provisions of the NYSC Bye-laws”.

    Our attention has been drawn to pictures and videos of a corps member wearing Skirt , trending on social media, said to be decamped from NYSC Orientation Camp Amada, Gombe State.

    Every Corps member is issued kit items which include; Shorts, belt, khaki Jacket ,khaki trouser, Jungle boots , tennis shoes , crested vest and white T-shirt , and is expected to wear such kit items throughout the duration of the service year. It is therefore an offence to deface the Uniform to any form other than the one issued by Management.

    The National Youth Service Corps Bye-laws reprinted in year 2000 Schedule 2 , section 1 sub-section (I) says ” Failure to wear the uniform provided for any particular activity

    PENALTY: The Corps member should be informed to go and wear the uniform, failing which he will be decamped.

    We wish to place on record that the said Corps member blatantly refused to wear the khaki trouser and chose to wear khaki Skirt instead ( A case of defacing and refusal to wear our uniform) She was made to face the camp court , found guilty and subsequently decamped in accordance to the provisions of the NYSC Bye-laws.

    The NYSC Secretariat Gombe has compiled and forwarded report on the Corps member and await further directives from our National Directorate Headquarters.

    …Releases timetable for 2016 Batch ‘B’ stream II Orientation Course

    The National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, has announced the date for the Orientation Course for prospective 2016 Batch B Stream II corps members.

    The date for the orientation programme, as announced by the NYSC on Monday, would run from Tuesday, 24 January to Monday, 13 February, 2017.

    The lineup of activities for the course is shown below:

    1. Tue 24th – Wed 25th, Jan 2017- Registration/verification exercise
    2. Thursday, 26th January, 2017 – Swearing-in ceremony
    3. Monday, 13th February, 2017 – Closing ceremony

    Prospective Corps members are advised to report to camp at the scheduled date as registration/verification will end at midnight of January 25, 2017.

    All prospective corps members are also asked to present their original copies of academic credentials and other documents uploaded during the online registration on camp for physical verification.

    The service says it has also made adjustment to documents to be presented before entering various orientation camps across Nigeria, saying that prospective corps members MUST present medical certificate on their health status.

    This adjustment is coming after the Scheme lost three corps members in 2016 during orientation camps across the country.

    A statement signed by the management reads: “All are also to note that original copies of academic credentials and other documents uploaded during the online registration MUST be presented on camp for physical verification.

    “All Prospective Corps members MUST present medical certificate from a government or military hospital showing their health status before they will be registered and admitted for the Orientation course.

    “Management wishes prospective Corps members safe journey to their respective camps as well as a successful Orientation course.”
