Reactions trail Tems’ outfit to the Oscars Awards

Reactions have continued to trail the appearance of Grammy Award winning Nigerian singer, Temilade Openiyi, aka Tems to the recently held Oscara Awards in America.

Tems, has come under attack over her outfit at the Oscars which appeared to be blocking award attendees sitting right behind her.

The Nigerian artiste, who got nominated for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever track, “Lift Me Up” wore a puffy white gown that wrapped around the back of her head.

Her elaborate outfit blocked the view of some attendees who sat at her back at Sunday night’s Academy Awards.

Social media users have criticised her for being insensitive to others while others rose to her defense for being classy and gorgeous.

Below are some of the social media comments compiled by the TheNewsGuru

@Segmartz:Looking classy like a snow angel, Tems you killed it”

@Kemzoenzo ” This Tems will not kill me, babe is a fashionista”

@pdiatiasmag: “ Tems looked gorgeous in Lever Couture but the outfit was not thought all the way through as it obscured the view of the stage for anyone sitting directly behind the singer.”

@t3niola: “ I need this ‘inconsiderate’ narrative to die! TEMS is not the first to wear a large headpiece to one of these awards shows.

@Tadelove323: Tems looked gorgeous but really would have blocked the views of others who also deserve to see happenings at the show”

@boluxxx: “ Tems’ dress was beautiful.

@ZLK 2000: ”Tems would have killed it outrightly if she sat at the back seat”

Tems is drop-dead gorgeous. Tems is my star girl and all that. Tems blocking people’s views with her dress was inconsiderate. People pointing that out is not racism as long as they aren’t using derogatory language. Humans need to be more honest.”

@Snr: “ Tems didn’t win any Oscars but she’s still the conversation topic of the event, a queen.”

“These shows are known for art that prioritises form over function and it is not when it’s Temilade’s turn that you will start expecting ‘sensible’ fits.”

@jayoverflowere: “ Tems ate last night but that was inconsiderate as hell. Poor people in the back.”

@jarrettBellini: “Imagine waiting your whole life to be at the Oscars and you end up sitting behind a stratus cloud.”

@Archivist1000: “ And the Oscar for the Most Ridiculous Dress worn by a SELFISH, RUDE DIVA goes to #TEMS for obstructing people’s view.”

@missboo_i: “ Tems should have had a better seat IMO. That’s the only thing she did wrong. She should have been sitting next to the ‘singer’ of HER song.”

@victoreajabukwa: “ Y’all shouldn’t forget, that night was Tems night, not the audiences night. She was an Oscar nominee. Free her to wear whatever the fuck she wants. Like Lady Gaga hasn’t worn worse. Instead of Nigerian to celebrate our first Oscar nominee, they’re bashing her for her dress.”

@oloriade “‘Tems was also a nominee and has the right to look good for her fans out there”

@Zakiya: ”Tems went to a show and decider to play the spoiler for some persons out there, what if this was a paid for show”

Tems becomes first Nigerian to get Oscar Award nomination

Nigerian artiste, Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has become first Nigerian artiste ever to get Oscar Awards nominations.

She has been nominated for the 95th edition of the Oscars award, slated for March 12, 2023 in Los Angeles, United States of America.

This was announced in the 2023 nomination list released by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Twitter handle on Tuesday.

Tems was nominated in the category of Best Original Song ahead of the 95th Academy Awards scheduled to take place in Los Angeles.

She received the Best Original Song nomination for her collaboration with Rihanna on the song ‘Lift Me Up’. The duo was nominated in the ‘Best Original Song’ category.

‘Lift Me Up’ was one of Marvel’s ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ soundtracks. Rihanna co-wrote the soulful song with Tems, and the music was produced by Ludwig Göransson, and directed by Ryan Coogler.

Will Smith also slapped me, Chris Rock’s mom reacts

Chris Rock’s mother has reacted to the slap her son received from Will Smith at the 2022 Academy Awards, condemning the actor’s actions.

In an interview with WIS of Columbia on Friday, Rose Rock said the slap didn’t hurt only her son.

“When he slapped Chris, he slapped all of us,” she said, telling the station, “He really slapped me.”

“You reacted to your wife giving you the side-eye and you went and made her day because she was mulled over laughing when it happened,” Rose Rock said of the moment.

Recall that Smith walked onto the stage at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles and slapped Rock, who was there to present the award for best documentary.

Rock had made a joke about Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, who has a shaved head and has spoken publicly about her hair loss.

After hitting Rock, Smith returned to his seat and yelled profanities at the comedian in an altercation that was censored from the US broadcast of the awards show.

Nigerians drag Bianca over Will Smith slapping of Chris Rock

Nigerians have reacted to the slapping of Chris Rock by Will Smith by dragging Bianca the wife of late Biafra agitator and Warlord, Ikemba Odumegwu Ojukwu.

Hollywood star, Smith, on Sunday, slapped Rock for making jokes about his wife at the Oscars award.

Rock had while presenting the award for best documentary, said “Jada I love you, ‘G.I. Jane 2,’ can’t wait to see it.”

Jada Pinkett Smith, who did not find the joke funny went emotional and started shedding tears, minutes after Will Smith walked up to Chris Rock and slapped him.

Pinkett, Smith’s wife has been battling Alopecia, an autoimmune disorder that leads to hair loss, rolled her eyes.

However, some Nigerians have linked the drama at the Oscars awards as a continuation of Bianca slapping of Ebele at the Inauguration of current Governor of Anambra state ,Prof. Soludo

The incident occurred immediately after Soludo took his oath of office at the government house.

“See What Bianca Ojukwu Started-Will Smith Bianca’ed Chris Rock at the Oscars!” Reno Omokri, a former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, tweeted.

@Adesanya wrote: ”This whole drama looks like what happened in Anambra few days ago when Bianca slapped Ebele”

  • COVID-19: 2021 Oscar Awards postponed

The 93rd annual Oscar Awards has officially been postponed by two months due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

According to a statement by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on Monday, the Oscars is now set to hold on April 25, 2021, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.

This is not the first time the Oscar Awards has been forced to adjust their yearly ceremony because of a massive event, but it might be the first time so many changes have been taken into account.

Academy President David Rubin and Academy CEO Dawn Hudson said in a statement: “For over a century, movies have played an important role in comforting, inspiring, and entertaining us during the darkest of times. They certainly have this year,

“Our hope, in extending the eligibility period and our Awards date, is to provide the flexibility filmmakers need to finish and release their films without being penalized for something beyond anyone’s control,

“This coming Oscars and the opening of our new museum will mark a historic moment, gathering movie fans around the world to unite through cinema.”

The format of the Oscar ceremony at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, telecast on ABC, has not been determined.

“We find ourselves in uncharted territory this year and will continue to work with our partners at the Academy to ensure next year’s show is a safe and celebratory event that also captures the excitement of the opening of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures,” ABC Entertainment president Karey Burke said in a statement.

Sade Adu makes 2019 Oscars’ ‘Best Original Song’ shortlist

Nigerian-British soul singer, Sade Adu’s song ‘The Big Unknown’ has made The Oscars 2019 shortlist for ‘Best Original Song’.

The song, her second in 2018 after a seven-year hiatus, was recorded for Steve McQueen’s ‘Widows’.

A four-time Grammy Award winner, Sade has not attended an award show since 1985 although she won the Grammy for ‘Best New Artist’ in 1986.

Other Oscars shortlisted songs include Kendrick Lamar and SZA’s ‘All The Stars’ from Black Panther; Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s ‘Shallow’ from A Star Is Born.

Others include ‘The Place Where Lost Things Go’ and ‘Trip A Little Light Fantastic’ from the upcoming Mary Poppins Returns.

Comedian Kevin Hart, who has long said that he would like to one day host the Academy Awards, will serve as M.C. for the 91st Oscars ceremony on Feb. 24.

“I am so happy to say that the day has finally come for me to host the Oscars,” Hart wrote on instagram.
