Oshiomhole is fond of making baseless, unverified claims – Amosun

Former Ogun state governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun has slammed ex-National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) Adams Oshiomhole, for saying  he spent over N2.4 billion in Ogun, Kwara and Taraba states to secure victory for the party during the 2019 general election.

Recall that  the former Edo governor, Oshiomhole posited that the money was spent due to stiff opposition against the choices of the party in the states by ‘political juggernauts’ namely, Amosun (Ogun), Senator Rochas Okorocha (Imo) and Bukola Saraki (Kwara).

Oshiomhole who spoke at the launch of a book by former APC National Vice Chairman, North West, Salihu Lukman,  said that the party lost the Taraba State governorship election even though it invested N800 million into the election in 2019.

However, while reacting to  Oshiomhole’s claims, Amosun noted  that the former APC Chairman has an “antecedent and penchant for careless and most times, baseless and unverified public statements”.

Amosun, in a statement he personally signed, said, “Indeed, listening to him yesterday, his utterances represent some inherent inadequacy, which he vented, not just at inauspicious times, but without basis and predicated only on lies to hoodwink the unsuspecting.

“It is not in doubt that I have participated fully in the formation and sustenance of our party, the APC, and I can boldly say that the party under Adams Oshiomhole conducted one of the worst primaries in the history of Nigeria’s contemporary politics and ended up shopping for his own enemies, leading to his eventual removal as Chairman of our party.

“Nigerians should not be in a hurry to forget the allegations that preceded the conduct of those primaries and his eventual invitation by the Department of State Service, DSS, to clarify certain grave allegations.

“If anyone was in doubt that Senator Oshiomhole posed the biggest and most destructive threat to the existence of the APC at that time, and the party’s best bet was to dispose of a canon folder that he was and unfortunately still is, his utterances and grandstanding yesterday at an occasion to find solutions to our democratic and party challenges, would have cleared such mindset.”

Amosun, however, asked Oshiomole to come straight.

“If he wanted to insult our leader, President Muhammadu Buhari, he could have come out boldly to do so. But his subtle attempt to pass snide remarks at him failed the simple test of loyalty because the former president also moved from his own party to merge with other like-minds to form the APC.

“Also, if he is seeking favour from the presidency, why not come out and do so? But to tell barefaced lies that, “You are working for your paymaster in Lagos, paymaster in Bourdillon,” is cheap but typical of an individual, who suddenly found himself where he never dreamt of, despite his obvious limitations – education and exposure.”

  • Tinubu’s government will be credited for fixing what predecessors could not – Oshiomhole

Tinubu’s government will be credited for fixing what predecessors could not – Oshiomhole

Sen. Adams Oshiomhole (APC Edo-North Senatorial District) says President Bola Tinubu-led administration will leave a legacy of being the one that turned the socio-economic and political fortunes of the nation around.

Oshiomhole, former National Chairman of the APC, told NAN in Abuja on Wednesday that Tinubu was already laying a solid foundation for development.

He added that that the president broke the jinx in FCT ministerial appointments by appointing Mr Nyesom Wike as its minister.

“This singular move shows that anyone can become the minister regardless of their birthplace, tongue and dialect.

“For me, one of the ground-breaking decisions President Tinubu has taken is to give every part of Nigeria a hope that regardless of your birthplace, tongue or dialect, you can be the Minister of the FCT.

“Many people didn’t think it was possible. We give thanks to God for giving us such a president that opens his doors for anyone who wishes to see him and who has information to share.

“We give thanks to God for having a president who has listening ears for whoever has something to tell him.

“One tree cannot make a forest; the quality of ministers and the leadership they provide in their respective ministries are what translate to whether the government performs or not.

“May this government be credited as the one that fixed what others could not fix.

“This will not be a government of lamentation, but one that will do what others failed to do,’’ Oshiomhole said.

He also lauded President Tinubu for appointing Eng.  Abubakar Momoh as the Minister of Niger Delta Development, saying it was a honour done to Edo.

Oshiomhole said Tinubu had shown courage and consistency with the assurance that “every Nigerian counts and is entitled to become anything in any part of Nigeria.’’

According to him, it is only under President Tinubu that a citizen of Edo has been appointed as Minister of Niger Delta Development.

“The president deserves a resounding applause for the honour done to Edo in making a bold statement that anybody can be anything from any part of the country.

“As you can see, the president has broken so many grounds; several things that former presidents could not do, even military presidents.

“We feel proud that it is during our time as senator on the APC platform that Edo has the privilege of nominating the Minister of Niger Delta Development.

“Let us resolve to pray for President Tinubu to continue to have the energy, the vision, the courage and above all, the open mind to give every Nigerian a sense of belonging,’’ Oshiomhole stressed.

He congratulated Momoh and applauded his consistency and support in the APC and urged him to strive to add value to the Niger Delta region.

He noted that Niger Delta deserved to get value from the oil extracted from the region, adding that such would give the people joy and make the president happy.

Oshiomhole also appreciated royal fathers in the region for honouring Momoh with their presence at his inauguration and prayed that their blessings remained with him.

  • My BP would have risen if I lost my Senatorial bid – Oshiomhole

My BP would have risen if I lost my Senatorial bid – Oshiomhole

Sen. Adams Oshiomhole (APC-Edo) has said that if he lost his senatorial ambition, his blood pressure would have risen to 360 millimeters of mercury (mm Hg)

Oshiomhole said this during the post-inauguration/thank you party hosted in his honour by friends and well-wishers at his country home, Iyamho, Etsako, Edo, on Saturday.

“If you have voted against me, I don’t know my blood pressure will now be 240/0360 that is if I’m still alive.

“Because the jubilations by the opponent would have been such that they will come and lock my small door and break my small bones, but you said no”, Oshiomhole told his audience.

Oshiomhole said that many governors lost their in their bids to become senator, adding that it would have been a shame to him if he also lost.

He thanked the people of Edo North for voting for him as a senator, after leaving office as governor.

He also thanked the people for voting for President Bola Tinubu at the presidential election, adding that Edo-North district was the only district where Tinubu won in Edo.

He pledged his commitment to represent Edo North very well, adding that he has an obligation to ensure that the state benefited more from Tinubu administration.

“There were sitting governors who contested for Senate across the country and many of them lost. I left office seven years ago and my people still honoured me with victory, how can I thank you enough.

“Afeanmi people when you go back to your wards and units tell your people that I am very very grateful.

“During the campaign, I told you if you want to give me one vote give it to Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“I am very proud to say and to repeat today here and now that in each of these six Local Governments Areas every ward Bola Ahmed Tinubu won, every ward Adams Oshiomhole won”, he said..

“I will proudly carry the result and I will say Mr President this is my certificate of the people of Edo North that voted for you.

He assured the people that Tinubu will transform Nigeria the way he did to Lagos.

“ Tinubu said those who say Edo no be Lagos will be alive when he becomes president, he will not only make Edo to be like Lagos, but better than Lagos.

“So my people those who say Edo no be Lagos, Tinubu cannot control us please tell them Tinubu is now Commander In-Chief of the Armed Forces”, he said.

  • Subsidy removal: Tinubu knows what Nigerians are going through- Oshiomhole

Subsidy removal: Tinubu knows what Nigerians are going through- Oshiomhole

The former governor of Edo state, Adams Oshiomhole, has said that President Bola Tinubu was aware of the effect the removal of the fuel subsidy is having on Nigerians.

Oshiomhole expressed optimism that disagreements between the federal government and organised labour over the removal of fuel subsidies would soon be resolved.

Oshiomhole disclosed this in an interview with Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, yesterday.

He said “This president recognizes that the effect of the withdrawal is already here, people are already going through some level of discomfort and therefore there has to be an immediate solution to it.

“Now that immediate solution is what we discussed and the fact that we are meeting on Tuesday again shows that clearly, we realize that this is not one of those things you want to buy time because it has a real negative impact, on particularly, the most vulnerable group.

“But we have a solution to it because you are going to make savings, so take from that savings or even if it is borrowing. So, whatever it is, you can leverage some revenue and improve wages to cushion the cost of living, I think it is legitimate, I think it is doable, it is not something that you want to spend two to three months negotiating,” Oshiomhole said.

The Federal Government and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) met on Sunday, and the former president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NUC), claimed the meeting was fruitful. He said that the government would take all of the TUC’s demands into consideration and respond on Tuesday.

Oshiomhole added that if Nigeria can save about N7 trillion by eliminating subsidies, the federal government can use some of that money to increase wages “because those savings will go into the federation account which will be distributed among the three tiers of government and so every tier of government will have more money and should be able to meet the consequential increase in wages”.

“How I’ll convert abilities of yahoo boys to something more productive”- Tinubu

The political candidate for All Progressive Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, has said the main focus of his administration when elected to power, is to convert the abilities of yahoo boys to something more productive.

This was as he slammed former President Olusegun Obasanjo over his recent endorsement of the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi.

Urging Nigerians to vote for him if they want to swim in wealth, Tinubu noted that citizens deserve the best, saying “the children of boli and groundnut sellers should become doctors, engineers, nurses, etc.”

Tinubu made this statement during the speech at the All Progressive Congress (APC) presidential campaign rally in Benin, Edo State.

"How I'll convert abilities of yahoo boys to something more productive"- Tinubu

He said: “I will turn Edo State into an energy State. I will convert Yahoo boys and make them useful by converting their talents and intellects to produce chips for industries. We can defeat poverty, ignorance, and homelessness. We have the knowledge, we have the brain to do it. Trust me. I am an expert in finding the way where there is no way. I found a way to tame the Atlantic and turn it to money- a making machine.”

Recalling what Obasanjo did to his administration as the Lagos State Governor, the former governor said, “Obasanjo seized our salaries, local government monies. Do you call that person a good or a wicked man?

In his words: “So, if he says he endorsed somebody, is it not poison that he is giving to you? One who doesn’t know the way cannot show the way. He is endorsing Obi but he doesn’t know the road.

“I know how to perform. I did it in Lagos and I will do it in Nigeria. I will bring an economic hub to Edo State, give skills to the boys, start credit lending, empower small-scale industries so that they can be able to be on their own and get rid of estimated billing.

“We will turn this state into an energy state. We will turn the so-called yahoo boys into experts in the manufacturing and creation of chips. We will bring long-term reforms.

“We can break the shackles of poverty, ignorance and homelessness. We will do it together. We have the knowledge and the brain. Trust me, I am an expert in finding the way where there is no way. I found a way to tame the Atlantic Ocean and turned it into a money-making machine. I found a way to stop the killing drainages to channelisation and prosperity. I have done many things. I have the power of thinking and doing.

“If you want prosperity, elect me. If you want skills to become rich, elect me. If you want security, elect me. If you say I should retire, you will retire knowledge, diamond and gold.”

In his remarks, a former National Chairman of APC, Adams Oshiomhole, solicited votes from Edo residents.

Oshiomhole asserted that the former Lagos State governor has a good track record and was instrumental in the fight against a single-party system.

  • “Atiku Abubakar is a serial betrayer”- Oshiomhole slams PDP’s Presidential candidate

“Atiku Abubakar is a serial betrayer”- Oshiomhole slams PDP’s Presidential candidate

Former Edo Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, has described the Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar, as a serial betrayer who cannot be trusted and the weakest of all the frontline flagbearers.

The two other candidates that stand as frontline flagbearers in the 2023 general elections are Asiwaju Bola Tinubu of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP).

Oshiomhole, who is the deputy director-general of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, spoke on Channels Television’s Politics Today, as pointed out PDP’s limitations and constraints.

According to him, Atiku’s ambition is just about himself and not about Nigeria. He asserted that PDP cannot return to power next year,

Oshiomhole said Atiku lacked consistency, having moved from the PDP to the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), back to the PDP and to the APC and finally to the PDP.

He said: “For Atiku, if he is not the candidate, he takes a flight to Dubai. But you are talking of someone who upon leaving office, supported his wife rather than himself, talking of selfless service and gender equality. It speaks to character. When you have a sense of belief, you cannot be jumping from one party to the other every other election.”

Oshiomhole also said the 76-year-old Adamawa-born politician (Atiku) cannot be trusted as echoed by aggrieved PDP governors known as the G5 or the Integrity Group.

Oshiomhole said: “PDP governors said we can’t trust him, every agreement we made with him, he broke it; he is a serial betrayer of agreements. In this case, everything is on the surface. First, there are three main candidates, and there are several other candidates, and I believe they all have good intentions.

“It is no secret that you have, at least five governors (PDP G-5 governors), including governors that matters in the south south — when you talk about the stronghold of the PDP, some of the governors revolting against Atiku are from that part of the country.

“Our candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, went to Gbaramatu Kingdom for the first time, and I’m not sure a PDP candidate has ever gone there because they’ve always taken them for granted. PDP is a house divided against itself.

“The real damage being done to the PDP’s presidential candidate, Atiku, is that governors who have never decamped from PDP, who can be called PDP indigenes, they’ve spoken to the fact that you can’t trust the PDP candidate Atiku, and they withdrew from his campaign council. Even Mimiko is in that group.

“Atiku went to Ondo State today (Wednesday), and didn’t have the honour to be received by high-profiled politician in the state. This is not secret to be uncovered.

“If five people (G-5 governors) have reasons to question the character of Atiku, that you can’t trust his words, that he can’t even manage his own party, he can’t grant concessions. He is so fixated about certain things. He is totally insensitive to Project Nigeria — the need to keep Nigeria together. He could go to a place like Kaduna and speak to them, saying don’t vote a Yoruba man. He didn’t say don’t vote for Tinubu, that’s a huge difference. Don’t vote for an Igbo man. A man who seeks to govern Nigeria has said this publicly on records. How can you entrust him? You can’t manage your household, and you want to preach unity. That’s not possible.”

On why he believes Atiku cannot win the poll, Oshimhole said: “It is not difficult to see why Atiku can’t win. He can’t. When he had the benefit of a joint ticket between Atiku and Obi, he got all the votes in the East, but he couldn’t make it. What miracles does he have? This house is broken.

“Atiku is battle-weary. He has nothing new to say. He will sell everything. I will sell NNPC. Once he says he will sell NNPC, people will say oh! that was the way you sold NITEL. What became of NITEL? Oh! I will enrich my friends, so is it about enriching your friends?

“I think for Atiku himself, it is just hard for him to throw in the towel and say I give up. So, he’d rather patch it up. He’s the weakest link right now, among the three leading candidates. Atiku and Obi have been on the ballot before, and they were rejected.

“What Atiku couldn’t atikulate last time, is he planning to disatikulate. For Atiku, if he is not a candidate, he’ll take flight to Dubai.

“When you’ve set some beliefs, you cannot be jumping from one party to another. Play Atiku’s statement since 1999. As a vice president he challenged his own boss at the end of his tenure, he is in history as the only vice president who decided to question the right of his boss to contest for a second term, and the boss persuaded him. Atiku’s ambition is just about himself.”

  • Peter Obi importing unemployment to Nigeria, says Oshiomhole

Peter Obi importing unemployment to Nigeria, says Oshiomhole

Former Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole has accused Labour Party, LP, presidential candidate, Peter Obi of importing employment to Nigeria through his business venture

Oshiomhole noted that Obi is contributing to the high unemployment rate in Nigeria.

The All Progressives Congress, APC, senatorial candidate for Edo North, made the assertion during the flag-off of his campaign in the Auchi area of the State over the weekend.

“Obi owns the biggest shopping mall in Abuja and all the items sold there are imported.

“If he is selling imported wines, clothes, and other items, he is contributing to why Nigeria is going down because he is creating jobs abroad and importing unemployment to Nigeria,” Oshiomhole said.

Statistics have shown that Nigeria’s unemployment rate stood at 33 percent as of the last quarter of 2020.

  • Why I want to be a Senator – Oshiomhole

Why I want to be a Senator – Oshiomhole

Adams Oshiomhole, All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Edo North seat at the National Assembly, says his focus is to change the annual budget system of Nigeria in favour of the ordinary people.

Oshiomhole, also a former APC chairman, stated this on Friday at the inauguration of the party’s campaign in Auchi, Etsako West Local Government Area of the state.

“I am troubled by the way we manage our budget at the National Assembly. I want to go there and argue on the floor of the Assembly that we should change our budgetary system. Our budget must work for the people.

“I want to be a Senator, not a Senator sharing grinding machines for widows, buying motor bikes or Keke Napeps for 10 out of 10,000 youths.

“I don’t need to be a senator to support windows and youths. I have done that and I am still doing that, today I am paying school fees for people who don’t have money to go to school,” he said.

Oshiomhole, also a former governor of the state, said that if he could fight on the street for ordinary Nigerian, he would even fight harder on the floor of the Senate to ensure that his constituents received democratic dividends.

“I can’t have N500 million for constituency project and go and buy Keke napeps motor bikes and grinding machines, that is not lawmaking.

“The minister of works told me that the reason road constructions are not completed is that the National Assembly will take half of the money budgeted for a road and approve four other roads on that approved fund, this is why we have unfinished roads all over Nigeria.

“I will use the floor of the Senate to ensure that when the executive brings budget, you don’t start new road when the existing ones are not completed,” he said.

Oshiomhole, also a former President of the Nigeria Labour Congress urged Nigerians to vote for Asiwaju Bola Tinubu because of his track record of performance as governor of Lagos state.

According to him, among those contesting for the seat of president, the APC candidate stands out as the best candidate due to his performance as governor of Lagos state.

“Tinubu is the most suitable person for president in 2023, They are throwing stones at him because they have seen that they can’t dispute his performance.

“They said he didn’t go to school but they say he was the treasurer of Mobil oil company. Will an oil company employ someone as chief accountant or treasurer if he didn’t go to school?

“You have seen how Tinubu transformed Lagos, when he sees a performing young person, he mentors and grooms him to become a leader.

“That is why he has produced governors, senators, ministers among others. So Tinubu is the one who will bring up young Nigerians and mentor them,” he said.

Earlier, the Director-General, the Oshiomhole campaign council, Mr Abdulganiyu Lawani said APC was in the rignt course of winning the 2023 general election.

“We have suitable candidates that can win elections. We have incumbent lawmakers that have performed well and those who are first timers are sellable candidates who can also win election for us.

“I urge all party members to go to their various units, wards and local governments to ensure victory for APC come 2023,” he said.

  • Atiku is comfortable in Dubai, he’ll actually relocate – Oshiomhole

Atiku is comfortable in Dubai, he’ll actually relocate – Oshiomhole

Former Governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole, has stated that the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar will actually relocate to Dubai.

Oshiomhole said this on Wednesday morning while fielding questions on the Arise Tv morning show.

Oshiomhole was clarifying an earlier statement credited to the vice presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Kashim Shettima, saying that Atiku would be retiring to Dubai after the 2023 presidential election.

“Given Atiku’s record of movement, that once he suffers a defeat – it is on record, once he loses an election – he moves to Dubai. And so, he is saying so because we are confident that nothing has changed. Nigeria has rejected him three-four times, and even the best partnership he enjoyed in 2019 with Peter Obi did not deliver him.

“We are confident that, God willing, using the same Nigerian people who had rejected him in the past, they will reject him again. And because once he is rejected, he has a history of relocating to Dubai. That is what the Vice president meant.

“Atiku will actually relocate to Dubai, he has been doing it. He is comfortable there. I hope that the ban on Nigeria does not affect him. Hopefully he will go there,” he said.
