Oshiomhole, Ize-Iyamu full of tricks, Edo won’t fall for their congratulatory letter – Obaseki

Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has mocked former national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole and his rival Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, over the congratulatory messages sent to him on Monday.

Obaseki who faulted the congratulatory messages while addressing a large crowd of supporters at the Ring Road in Benin, wondered why they simply sent the messages to him through the internet.

He noted that if the opposition leaders were really serious about their congratulatory messages, they should have printed them on their letter-headed papers, with their signatures on them, rather than posting it on the internet.

The event was organized to celebrate his victory at the Supreme Court last Friday.

According to him, “Edo will never fall for such cheap messages called congratulatory letter. They are not serious. Na today we do election, na today we win? They are full of tricks.

“The APC in Abuja is being run just like what they did in Edo when they were in power in Edo state.

“There is problem in Nigeria. The country has money but until we change our mindset that tax payers money must be used to work for the people and not for very few, we have to pray that what happened in Edo will not happen in Abuja.

“The only party that has the right people for the job is the People’s Democratic Party, come 2023.

“Forward ever, backward never, Edo must move forward,” he added.

Oshiomhole and Ize-Iyamu had sent congratulatory messages to Obaseki on Monday, following the Supreme Court judgment on Friday.

‘Let us put the past behind’, Oyegun says as he meets Oshiomhole in Edo

Two former national chairmen of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief John Odigie-Oyegun and Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, as well as other leaders of the party were present yesterday at the stakeholders’ meeting of the party in Benin, the Edo State capital.

The APC leaders, who called for unity among party members, also hailed the Edo State Caretaker Committee of the party led by Col. David Imuse (rtd) for the success of the just-concluded membership registration across the 18 local government areas of the Southsouth state.

Odigie-Oyegun said: “Let us put the past behind and let us look at the future. I belong to APC, body and soul.

“Every member of the party, including the party’s leaders, have contributions to make for the improvement and success of the party. No individual can be greater than the party.”

Odigie-Oyegun, who is also the Chairman of the Governing Council of the University of Ibadan (UI), urged APC members to always speak with one voice.

Oshiomhole, in his remarks, called on APC members in Edo State to close ranks and work harmoniously with the leadership of the party in the state and other levels in the overall interest of the party.

Imuse lauded all APC members in Edo State for the success of the just-concluded membership registration, stressing that the turnout of Edo residents who joined the party was quite impressive, despite being the main opposition party in the state.

The Edo caretaker chairman of APC said: “Right now, APC has a very credible and reliable data base of its members in every unit across the entire country. Our party is now a stronger and more united party as a result of the exceptional membership registration.

“The implication of this healthy development is that in subsequent free and fair elections, our party is confident of undisputable victory.

“But this does not mean that we should rest on our oars. We must stay focused, awake, and be alert to the whiles of our opponents.

“We must keep working as one, united and indivisible members of the APC so that we can stop them (political opponents) very early in their nefarious tracks.”

The stakeholders meeting had in attendance a member of the Board of Trustees of APC, Prince Malik Afegbua; a former governor of Edo State, Prof. Oserheimhen Osunbor and his then deputy, Chief Lucky Imasuen.

Also in attendance were former Edo State deputy governor, Dr. Pius Odubu; some members of the National Assembly, including Senator Francis Alimikhena, Dennis Idahosa, Patrick Aisowieren and members of the state’s caretaker committee, among other stakeholders.

Oshiomhole chairs dedication of Catholic Church in Iyamho-Uzairue Community, Edo State

Immediate past governor of Edo State, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole will on April 5 (Easter Monday) chair the Caronical Erection to a parish and dedication of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iyamho-Uzairue Community, Iyamho Estako Local Government Area of the state.

TheNewsGuru.com, TNG reports that the elated former chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has since sent out invitation to friends for support and attendance.

TNG reports that the church dedication will be one of the first public event that the ex-governor is attending since his party (APC) and anointed candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu lost the 2019 Edo State governorship election to Governor Godwin Obaseki of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

See invitation details below as signed by Oshiomhole:

Obaseki demolishes Oshiomhole’s deputy, lawmaker’s houses in Benin

The Governor Godwin Obaseki led Edo State Government on Tuesday evening, demolished a property belonging to the immediate past deputy governor of the state, Dr. Pius Odubu.

Also demolished were properties belonging to a member of House of Representatives representing Owan Federal Constituency of the state, Prof. Julius Ihonvbere; and that of the owner of Sports Marketing Outfit, Pamozi, Mr. Mike Etamuagbon.

TheNewsGuru.com, TNG gathered that the properties demolished were all situated at the Government Reservation Areas (GRA) within the state capital, Benin City.

According to reports, Odubu’s property was occupied by his younger brother and his family at the time it was demolished, while that of Ihonvbere was still under construction.

While reacting to the destruction, Odubu described the demolition by the state government as unfortunate, saying the matter was already before the court.

He said he had read on the newspaper in January this year that his Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) to his property situated at Dennis Osadebe Avenue in the Government Reserve Area (GRA) in Benin City had been revoked.

“But the information concerning the demolition came to me this afternoon, March 23, that my property situated at Dennis Osadebe Avenue has been brought down by agents of the government on the directive of the governor.”

“Before now, my attention was brought to a publication in the Observer newspaper in January that the C of O of my property have been revoked without prior notice given to me.

“I went to court on the matter and I am surprised that after they have been served, the government still went ahead to bring down my house with a bulldozer.

“My younger one was in the house when it was brought down and they did not give them notice nor allow them to remove any of their properties before destroying the place,” he said.

Narrating the incident, Mrs. Precious Odubu, wife to the former deputy governor’s younger brother, said at about 4pm, she noticed some policemen who came into the compound and she approached them to inquire about their mission.

“The way they came in, not through the main gate, I was afraid and asked about their mission and they told me that they want to demolish the house and if there are children in the building they should be brought out.

“Without even waiting for my response, they just brought in their bulldozers and started destroying the house without allowing us to remove our properties,” she explained.

What I dislike about Oshiomhole – Obaseki

The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki on Saturday reunited with his predecessor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole in Auchi, Etsako-West Local Government Area of the state.

The governor however disclosed that he has no personal grudges against the former national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) but only dislikes his style of politics.

Obaseki said this while interacting with journalists at the Centenary Birthday Thanksgiving of Msgr. Thomas Oleghe and 18th Canonical Erection Anniversary of the Diocese of Auchi held at Immaculate Conception Cathedral in Auchi.

Obaseki, who exchanged greetings with an elbow-bump in compliance with COVID-19 preventive protocols, with his predecessor, said they are both sons of Edo with the interest of the state at heart.

The governor said: “I don’t have anything personal against Oshiomhole. I may not like his politics, but he has not done anything personal against me. We all are interacting with the interest of the country and the development of our community at heart.”

The governor said the Zonal Congress of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which was scheduled to hold this Saturday, was postponed due to the local government elections taking place in Delta State.

“The Zonal Congress, which was to hold today has been postponed to Tuesday and it’s a normal routine to satisfy the party’s constitution; there is nothing amiss,” he added.

On his part, Oshiomhole, who was a guest at the event, hailed his successor, Governor Obaseki, describing him as ‘his brother and friend.’

Oshiomhole stated: “Once the governor speaks, the matter ends. The governor knows that pensioners here might not be able to do much, that is why he said every other thing required to complete the hostel of the Catholic School of Nursing and Midwifery in Uzairue, his government will do.”

TheNewsGuru.com, TNG reports that both politicians went their separate ways during the build up to the Edo State Governorship election held in September 2020.

  • Revalidation exercise strange to APC constitution – Oshiomhole

Revalidation exercise strange to APC constitution – Oshiomhole

The immediate past National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC) Comrade Adams Oshiomhole has faulted the ongoing membership revalidation exercise of the party.

The exercise, he said, is contrary to Constitution of the party.

Oshiomhole spoke with newsmen shortly after revalidating his membership of the party at Unit 1, Ward 10, Iyamho, Etsako West Local Government of Edo State.

According to him: “APC is governed by a constitution and not by man. The constitution only provides for registration and I registered as a member of the APC in 2014 under the Interim National Chairman, Chief Bisi Akande.

“There is nothing in the APC constitution that says a member shall revalidate or renew his membership. Once you registered when you joined the party and you have not decamped, you are a member. So revalidation is strange to our constitution.

“I have only done this because I want peace to reign but in doing this, we have to be careful not to create constitutional breach.”

Oshiomhole, however, noted between 2015 and now, people have exited from the party and others have joined while some have died, adding that it makes sense to review the register so that those who have decamped to APC will be registered while those who have left will be deleted.

“If you ask me as a foundation member, who has never decamped, to revalidate my membership, it is double registration because there is nothing like revalidation in our constitution.

“By asking me to revalidate my membership means I was not a member. So, I think the correct language should be either reviewing or updating because it makes sense to review voters register due to the new members that have joined or those that have exited,” Oshiomhole said.

He said the party has been updating its register from time to time, noting most of the Governors under the party today became members following voters register update hence they were able to contest the governorship election under the party.

“So what this means now is that I have come here to do another registration but I insist that my registration never expired within the provision of the APC constitution.

“For me, I think we should just move on. I am happy I just did it but I don’t need it because my membership has not expired and it can only expire when I decamp.

“History didn’t just begin today. If we don’t have a valid register, how did we conduct the congress in 2015 in which 16 million registered APC members voted to nominate President Muhammadu Buhari before the general election?”

Trending: Omotola tackles blog, demands proofs on reports of her alleged romance with Oshiomhole

Nollywood actress Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde on Tuesday lambasts a blog, @Gistlovers to prove the story of her tie with former national chairman of the All Progressives Congress Adams Oshiomhole.

The actress who is married to Captain Matthew Ekeinde shared a screenshot of the blog’s post on Instagram on Tuesday.

She asked her followers to report the blog’s page on Instagram.

“I ordinarily dont do this but after thinking about it thoroughly and seeking advice i have decided to! So this Blog ran this story and people started coming to my page.

“Ive always known there are people who are sick and will tell you stories that have Never happened but to publish that on a platform as big as instagram? You must be held accountable,” she wrote.

  • I’m not interested in returning as APC National Chair – Oshiomhole

I’m not interested in returning as APC National Chair – Oshiomhole

The sacked former national chairperson of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole, has dismissed the possibility of leading the party again even if the party’s NEC decides in his favour on Tuesday.

“That chapter of my political life is closed. Even if another NEC decision or a court order reverses the dissolution, with utmost humility I will decline to return as APC chairman,” he said.

Mr Oshiomhole-led National Working Committee (NWC) of the ruling party was dissolved almost six months ago amidst the crisis rocking the party.

The decision, taken at the APC National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting attended by President Muhammadu in June, ushered an interim committee tasked to organise a convention where the party’s new executives will emerge in the next six months.

However, rather than announce a date for the party’s convention, Mala-Buni-led committee has called for another NEC meeting, which critics have predicted is planned to give an extension of tenure for the caretaker committee.

Mr Buhari is expected to participate in the virtual NEC meeting slated for Tuesday.

After months of staying off the radar, Mr Oshiomhole on Tuesday lashed at his critics who he said were linking him to the lawsuits filed by some members of the dissolved NWC against the party despite Mr Buhari’s warning.

“In reporting the legal action taken by a member of the dissolved National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), some attributions have been made to the effect that plaintiff is an “ally of Oshiomhole” or an “associate of Oshiomhole”. The court documents are clear on who is the plaintiff,” he said.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the 21-member NWC under my leadership largely worked cohesively and harmoniously. The only exceptions were those of the three members used by forces desperate to take control of the party. They contrived a crisis and abused the judicial process to undermine the constitution and integrity of the party.

“The majority of 18 members worked as a team and not as allies or loyalists of anybody,” he said in a statement on Monday.

Mr Oshiomhole said he had long accepted his dismissal as the party chair and should not be held responsible for the actions of others based on his affiliation with them.

He expressed his gratitude for the support he has enjoyed from Mr Buhari and said he was ready to continue to work with his administration.

  • Oshiomhole begs for out-of-court settlement in Ortom’s N10bn libel suit

Oshiomhole begs for out-of-court settlement in Ortom’s N10bn libel suit

A former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Adams Oshiomole, on Tuesday, sought for an out-of-court settlement in the N10bn libel suit instituted against him by Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom.

Ortom had filed the suit against the former APC chairman over his comments against him at a press conference on July 27, 2018, where Oshiomhole accused the governor of having a hand in the death of two Catholic priests and other parishioners at Mbalom Community, Gwer East Local Government Area on the grounds that one of the priests had preached a “very critical sermon” against him (the governor).

Earlier on the suit, Oshiomhole had filed six preliminary objections which the court resolved all in Ortom’s favour.

However, at the resumption of the case on Tuesday, counsel for Ortom, Samuel Irabor, submitted that he was ready to call his witnesses, but said that Oshiomhole’s counsel, Festus Jumbo had informed him that they have considered putting up a retraction of the publication and it would be ready within a week.

He said he was applying for another date to take a look at the terms of settlement canvassed by Oshiomhole.

Titus Akhuwa who held the brief of Oshiomhole’s counsel, Festus Jumbo confirmed the submission of Governor Ortom’s lawyer.

The Presiding judge, Justice Augustine Ityonyiman of State High Court sitting in Makurdi, after listening to both parties, adjourned the case to October 29, for a report on the out-of-court settlement.

  • Edo 2020: Oshiomhole’s needless grandstanding, By Ehichioya Ezomon

Edo 2020: Oshiomhole’s needless grandstanding, By Ehichioya Ezomon

    By Ehichioya Ezomon
How do we classify Comrade Adams Oshiomhole’s declaration that “I’m not down” concerning how the outcome of the September 19, 2020, governorship election in Edo State affected him?
Is it a parody, also called a spoof, a send-up, a take-off, a lampoon, a play on (something), a caricature, a joke, a satire or an irony? Or a metaphor, that’s comparing two things that aren’t alike but do have something in common: “stating something is something else”?
A combination of both words reflects Oshiomhole’s current station in life, in a very canny way. He’s fighting for his political life at Edo 2020, and achieving that goal was for him to come tops.
But he came short, courtesy of the declaration of incumbent Godwin Obaseki and the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State as the winners of the contentious poll.
Had the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, prevailed, Oshiomhole could have had a breather, and whatever he said would carry a punch.
But having his candidate and platform humiliated by his undisputed nemesis, Governor Obaseki, Oshiomhole ought to be genuinely sober, and not grandstand with “I’m not down” pontificating.
Let’s look at his remarks for context. In a video reminiscent of the one he posted to social media 48 hours before the poll, Oshiomhole took refuge in God, as the ultimate disposer of human proposals.
His words: “A lot of people will be thinking now, ‘Oh, Comrade is down.’ But I am not down. When God says you are not down, you are not down, and I am not down.
“You work hard and leave God for the outcome. You do your best and trust God to bless your effort. I feel good, thank God. I feel healthy, thank God. I feel strong. Thank God. In life, you win some, you lose some, but life goes on.
“On Election Day, I saw women of 70, 75 sitting down because the Card Reader is not working; and they are not frustrated. It inspired me that, if at their age you don’t give up, why should I give up?
“We must strengthen democracy; we must improve on it, no matter the outcome of an election or a particular edition of a process. Have faith in God and have faith in our country.”
Truly, man proposes and God disposes! But man’s action must be tailored to align with God’s expectation, before man can take refuge under the canopy of the Almighty.
Were Oshiomhole’s actions a manifestation of God’s expectation of him during his governance of Edo from 2008 to 2016, and in the lead-up to the 2020 poll? Certainly not, in several respects!
Consider his unbridled fight against “godfathers.” Labeling of Ize-Iyamu. Failure to resolve crises in APC’s chapters, particularly in Edo. Alleged “one man show” at the National Working Committee (NWC). Blind-siding higher party authorities: National Executive Committee (NEC) and President Muhammadu Buhari. Alienation of his colleague-governors, past and present. Spearheading of the disqualification of Obaseki from the APC primaries.
Some explanation will suffice. Oshiomhole, as governor of Edo State, was the architect of “One man, one vote,” “One woman, one vote” that has gained currency in the political lexicon of Nigeria.
The basics of this mantra is that in any election, every vote must count, devoid of behind-the-scenes manipulation of the processes by political “godfathers,” to advantage their choice candidates.
While Oshiomhole deserves kudos for this noble cause, he rather took the fight to the extreme by defying the time-honoured respect for Edo elders, widely regarded as the “godfathers.
It became Oshiomhole’s pastime to denigrate these elders publicly at every stop – both at campaigns and at official engagements in his eight-year governance, from 2008 to 2016.
It might be a stretch, but it won’t be out of place to suggest that Oshiomhole may’ve contributed to the “untimely demise” of Chief Anthony Anenih, a political enigma, code-named ‘Mr Fix It’.
Politics was Anenih’s life, but Oshiomhole, as he often boasted, “retired” him from the vocation, and rendered him vincible in Edo politics he had bestrode for decades.
For destroying his image and integrity in 2016, which impacted on Edo 2020, Ize-Iyamu could’ve claimed, and can claim, damages against Oshiomhole.
It’s no surprise that at the campaigns, Obaseki didn’t showcase his achievements, but focused on what Oshiomhole said about Ize-Iyamu in 2016 when Obaseki and Ize-Iyamu swapped platforms, as in 2020.
As APC’s chair, Oshiomhole had a price to pay for not sounding Buhari out before taking decisive actions, and for “antagonizing” his colleague-governors, who then plotted his downfall.
The “aggrieved” didn’t only show their anger by conniving to suspend and sack Oshiomhole from his exalted political office, but also ensured he’s humbled at the poll by Obaseki of the PDP.
For instance, consider President Buhari’s message to Ondo voters during the APC final mega rally in Akure last week. It’s concise, direct, precise, unambiguous and un-ambivalent.
Buhari said: “I have no doubt that our candidate (Governor Rotimi Akeredolu) is a good brand for the APC to market. I am particularly delighted by his ingenious approach to governance.
“Having had the privilege of commissioning some of his projects, which I consider enduring legacies, I join you here today to declare that Governor Akeredolu deserves to be re-elected…
“I am not just proud of his achievements; I am confident he will enjoy the mandate of the good people of Ondo State for the second term.”
And what’s Buhari’s message to Edo voters on the September 19 poll? He charged them to “vote for the candidate of your choice,” with no direct canvassing for his party’s candidate, Ize-Iyamu.
It isn’t that Ize-Iyamu was a bad product, but advocating for him would mean endorsing Oshiomhole’s last-ditch effort to shore-up his self-inflicted political implosion.
So, the “more powerful” in the APC ensured they pulled the brakes on the final mega rally in Benin City on September 17, which Ize-Iyamu would’ve used to woo, at least, “undecided” voters.
If Oshiomhole had “his way” with godfathers and godsons in Edo politics, his magic didn’t click with Obaseki, who he had drafted into the race in 2016, and campaigned for, as if he’s on the ballot.
Oshiomhole’s alleged “crime” was his craving to reintroduce, in the Edo politics, “godfatherism” – a phenomenon he boasted often to have “killed and buried” during his tenure as governor.
Obaseki deployed gimmicks to stop Oshiomhole: Ensured he had no foothold at Edo Assembly. Abolished his political group, Edo Peoples Movement (EPM). Engineered his sacking from APC’s national chair. And frustrated all efforts to reconcile the duo.
The last straw to break “Oshiomhole’s political back” came when his NWC disqualified Obaseki at the APC primaries, prompting the governor to decamp, with the APC mandate, to the PDP.
With Obaseki, the PDP, out of power in Edo for nearly 12 years, swept the poll, which’s faulted by the local APC and Ize-Iyamu as fraudulent, and yet not keen to test their claims at the Tribunal.
Oshiomhole’s case depicts, “what goes around, comes around,” or what in local parlance is, “koni man die, koni man beri am.” His behaviour is rooted in a “loose tongue” and “playing God.”
Hence, he can’t take refuge under the canopy of God, even as he has disregarded the biblical statement: “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”
Compelling truth.com describes that statement as a command from Jesus Christ. In Luke 6:31 Jesus says, “And as you wish that others would do to you, do so to them.” And Matthew 7:12 Jesus says, “So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.”
Did Oshiomhole do to Ize-Iyamu (in 2016) what he would have him do unto him? He tried to atone for his “sins” against Ize-Iyamu at Edo 2020 poll. But would Oshiomhole have accepted abridgment of his re-election bid in 2012, as he did to Obaseki in Edo 2020?
As Obaseki reportedly had issues with his documents, the APC tried to avoid the Beyelsa “debacle” in which the courts overturned its victory over credentials of its running mate in the 2019 poll.
Yet, the APC could’ve allowed Obaseki, as incumbent, to run the gamut of the primaries, and hoped he’s defeated by a co-contender, especially Ize-Iyamu that Oshiomhole backed to the hilt.
Thus, Oshiomhole’s “I’m not down” is a boldface to cover-up actions that culminated in his falling from the dizzy heights of the APC, and also disgraced at Edo 2020 by his “beloved” godson.
It’s a monumental political tragedy he should apologise for, and which should serve as a sober lesson to his ilk prancing the political space as kingmakers or would-be king-crowners.
