Osimhen reveals who convinced him about Galatasaray

Nigeria striker Victor Osimhen has revealed his fellow countryman Henry Onyekuru convinced him to join the Turkish club Galatasaray

Osimhen has joined in a straight loan from Napoli with a break clause for January.

He said upon signing his contract: “When I heard about Galatasaray’s interest, it was an easy decision for me. I knew how big Galatasaray was and how much of a family club it was. They have an incredible fan base.

“Henry Onyekuru is my friend and he played for Galatasaray, he told me how big the club, the fans and the people here are. So it was an easy decision for me. When I landed at the airport, the fans welcomed me with so much emotion that I felt very happy. These things are important for a player. I want to do everything I can for them. I can’t wait to start this project. I’m very excited.”

On a reunion with former Napoli teammate Dries Mertens, he continued: “Dries Mertens was always with me when I played in Italy. He became a big brother to me. He is a person I respect a lot, I am excited to be teammates with him again. I can’t wait to meet my teammates as soon as possible. I was already watching Galatasaray games.

“I follow Mertens to see how he plays since he came here. I was following his development as a person and as a footballer. The interactions of the players with the fans when they score goals and win games are also exciting. Now I hope our fans will support me after every goal. I can’t wait.

“I say hello to the Galatasaray fans, Osimhen is here. Thank you very much for welcoming me at the airport. It was a great welcome.”

Gala have also announced that Osimhen will wear the No45 shirt this season.

  • Chelsea still interested in Osimhen despite Galatasaray loan

Chelsea still interested in Osimhen despite Galatasaray loan

Chelsea are still big admirers of Victor Osimhen and may want to sign him in the winter or next summer.

That is the view of transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, who has spoken about the attacker’s situation.

Osimhen is on loan at Galatasaray, but the deal can be cut short in the winter if necessary.

The forward is still a Napoli player, but is said to have no future at that club given a breakdown in relationship with the ownership.

Osimhen does have a release clause of around £70M, which Chelsea may find reasonable.

However, at the age of 25, a move to Turkey may be seen as a backwards career move and may hurt his stock moving forward.

Turkish club in talks to sign Victor Osimhen

Turkish club Galatasaray are closing in on a deal to sign Victor Osimhen on loan from Napoli.

The Nigeria striker was a target for Chelsea before the transfer window closed in England last week.

Osimhen , 25, was also heavily linked with a move to Saudi Arabian club Al-Ahli.

However, it seems Turkey, where the transfer window remains open until Sept. 13, is now his likely destination with Galatasaray announcing they are in talks to bring in the former Wolfsburg and Lille striker.

“Official negotiations have begun with the football player and his club SSCN Napoli SPA regarding the temporary transfer of professional footballer Victor  Osimhen,” said a statement from the Turkish club.

Osimhen has scored 76 goals in 133 appearances for Napoli since joining from Lille in 2020, including 26 in their 2022-23 Serie A title win.

What Victor Osimhen made clear to us – Napoli chief

Napoli chief Giovanni Manna has explained Victor Osimhen’s situation before victory over Parma.

Osimhen, after seeing moves to Chelsea and Al Ahli fall through on deadline day, has been stripped of his No9 shirt number and sidelined from the senior squad.

Manna told DAZN: “The situation is very clear, it has been since the end of last season. Victor expressed his absolute desire to not stay at Napoli, to not play for Napoli, and we tried to make him happy.

“Then there is a demand and an offer, we thought that we had concluded the negotiations, but then it did not go through. We bought Lukaku, kept Raspadori and Simeone, which was not to be taken for granted.

“At this moment, we maintain the same consistency we had since the start: he expressed the desire to no longer play for Napoli and so we made other choices.”

Manna also stated: “The transfer market is still open, there are many options, but I don’t think Victor will go to Saudi Arabia in this transfer session.

“Our ideas were clear from the start. We were waiting to sell Victor to finance these operations, but the sale did not arrive and the President took on the responsibility to invest and reboot. He took on all the risk, he was incredible.”

Odion Ighalo, a former Super Eagles striker, has hit out at Nigerians over their comments on social media, after Victor Osimhen failed to seal a move away from Napoli.

Osimhen has been frozen out at the Serie A club following the collapse of transfer talks with Chelsea.

The situation led to mixed reactions from fans on the Internet, with many criticizing the player and his entourage.

But Ighalo wrote on X on Sunday morning: “No human being is perfect and we have all made mistakes in life.

“But seeing comments about this young man from his own country people makes me really sad, without even knowing what happened.

“I spoke to him and I can feel the pain in his voice, the way he’s been treated, this young man play with heart and pains for his country. “Hmmm it’s well, he will definitely be back stronger, we learn everyday in life. Osimhen misses Napoli training amid transfer speculations

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen missed Napoli’s first pre-season game on Tuesday due to fitness issues, as reported by Soccernet.

Napoli faced local Italian side Anaune Val Di Non, with Antonio Conte taking charge of his first game.

Osimhen was initially named on the bench when the team lists were announced but ended up in the stands. He has been working separately from the squad in training over the past few days due to fitness concerns and left training early a few days ago with an ice pack strapped around his ankle.

In his absence, Conte’s men cruised to a 4-0 victory, with Leonardo Spinazzola, Walid Cheddira, Gianluca Gaetano, and Cyril Ngonge all finding the net.

  • EPL: Chelsea table €60m plus Romelu Lukaku, Cesare Casadei to Napoli for Osimhen

EPL: Chelsea table €60m plus Romelu Lukaku, Cesare Casadei to Napoli for Osimhen

Chelsea FC have tabled  Romelu Lukaku and Cesare Casadei to Serie A side, Napoli as part of the deal to acquire Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen at a lower cost.

Osimhen is frustrated at the lack of interest on the transfer market, as he only signed a new contract in December with the express and stated intention of leaving this summer.

Napoli initially placed a whooping €130m as his release clause but that is considered far too high by the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea, who instead looked at other targets.

Recent developments show that Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid no longer show interest in the forward.

With this in mind, TEAMtalk claimed  that Chelsea are talking to Napoli about various options to exchange players, which would bring down the overall cost of the operation.

Lukaku is the inevitable candidate, seeing as Napoli’s new coach Antonio Conte is desperate to reunite with the former Inter striker and he is not part of the plans at Stamford Bridge.

Armando Broja and Trevoh Chalobah were mentioned, but neither of them are of particular interest to the Partenopei.

If Lukaku and Casadei were part of the deal, Chelsea would hope to pay only €60m cash for Osimhen.

The forard has resumed pre -season training with Napoli but could be putting pen to paper for a new club ahead of next season.

  • Finidi counters Osimhen’s allegations

    Finidi counters Osimhen’s allegations

Former Nigerian international Finidi George has stated his own side of the story about the viral comments made by Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen, who denied allegations of faking an injury to avoid the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and the Benin Republic.

Osimhen’s statements on Instagram prompted veteran journalist Colins Udoh to investigate the matter and thus came up with his findings on it.

Udoh contacted Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) officials, who supported Osimhen’s claim that he had informed Finidi about his injury. The officials confirmed that Finidi never accused Osimhen of pretending to be injured.

In his response, Finidi highlighted that he would not pressure any player to join the Super Eagles, insisting that commitment to the team should come from the players themselves. He further explained that he had reached out to Osimhen after the incident to clarify that he never made such accusations and would have preferred to discuss any concerns privately.

This situation underscores the need for clear communication and trust between players and coaching staff within the Super Eagles team

Super Eagles striker Osimhen favours EPL move

Napoli striker Victor Osimhen wants to move clubs in the summer and is eyeing the Premier League.

The Nigerian is said to be in favor of signing for Chelsea in the off-season, given their huge interest.

The Blues are ready to pay a big money fee to Napoli and then mega wages to Osimhen.

He is said to have a release clause in his contract that is around £103 million.

Discussing his future back in January, Osimhen told CBS Sports: “The rumour is going around about me linked with the Premier League.

“When you’re one of the hottest strikers on the globe, you expect this type of thing, and of course, the Premier League is one of the biggest and best leagues in the whole world.

“I’m with Napoli, I signed a new contract. I’m enjoying my time there. I think I’ve already made up my mind, I already know what I want to do in my career.

“Since I’ve started, I’ve been the one making my own decisions and everything is working out well for me. I already know the next step I want to take, so for now I just want to finish the season strong.

“I will [then] go relax somewhere with my daughter, think about my life and then finally come out with a decision that I’ve already made.”

  • Serie A: Osimhen is Premier League bound – Gianluca Di Marzio

Serie A: Osimhen is Premier League bound – Gianluca Di Marzio

Football transfer guru, Gianluca Di Marzio has posited that Nigerian and Napoli  striker, Victor Osimhen will join a premier League club next season.

According to him, Osimhen will join a London club, either Arsenal or Chelsea come next season.

It would be recalled that Nigerian striker recently extended his contract with Napoli until 2026, featuring a release clause estimated at 130 million euros.

PSG eyes Osimhen as a potential successor to Kylian Mbappé, whose departure from the club seems imminent.

Osimhen boasts Ligue 1 experience from his time at Lille, where he made 27 appearances and netted 13 goals in the 2019-2020 season.

However, Di Marzio suggests that Osimhen’s preference lies with Chelsea or Arsenal, rather than returning to Ligue 1.

With PSG as frontrunners due to their rapport with Napoli, Osimhen’s focus remains on a potential move to the Premier League, where he aims to showcase his talent on a new stage.

“I’m not so convinced that Osimhen goes to PSG, he has already played in France with Lille, logical, PSG is something else and would allow you to face matches like the Champions League semi-final, but his preference was and remains England,” Di Marzio said in quotes relayed by Spazio Napoli.

“Chelsea and Arsenal are two clubs that could grab Osimhen.”
