Financial Fair Play Rules: Unbothered Chelsea set to break the bank for Osimhen

Speculations are rife that Chelsea football Club are getting ready to pay the release clause of Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, despite fears of breaching the Premier League Profit and Sustainable rules.

Osimhen, a 35-cap Nigeria international, could cost Chelsea between €120m-€130m after impressing at Napoli.

Italian agent and  journalist, Rudy Galetti claims that the striker is willing to move to Stamford Bridge.

The 2015 FIFA U17 World Cup Golden Boot winner could help bolster Chelsea’s attack, which has struggled for goals despite last summer’s reinforcements.

However, the deal is still subject to Premier League Financial Fair Play rules as the London based Club woud have to sell few players before they can onboard Osimhen from Napoli.

  • I’m trying to get Osimhen to Chelsea – Mikel

I’m trying to get Osimhen to Chelsea – Mikel

Former Nigeria international John Obi Mikel admits he’s working on Napoli striker Victor Osimhen about joining Chelsea.

Obi Mikel says former club Chelsea need a striker like Osimhen.

Speaking to journalist Ben Jacobs at Web Summit Qatar, he said: “I’m still his ‘agent’. I’m trying to get him to Chelsea so I’ve got 20 per cent of that deal, let’s hope it works out. I think there is a genuine interest from both. He loves the club and wants to come to the club, obviously following in my footsteps as a Nigerian player to play for Chelsea, like Victor Moses and Celestine Babayaro.

“He’s looked at London as well as a fantastic city, instead of going to Liverpool. But he also has interest from Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United, but I’m still pushing and sending him messages. I hope he comes to the club because he will bring so much.

“Anyone who watched the [Carabao Cup] final [vs Liverpool] on Sunday will see one thing we lack is goals. We need a striker who will score goals and that is what Victor will give you. He’s not the most skilful player, but he guarantees goals. If he could get us 20 or 25 goals per season. That is what Erling Haaland does and that’s why he is one of the best.

“He’s not there for link-ups and all that, get the ball in the box and he will finish and that is something that I think Osimhen will definitely give us. So let’s hope it works out and he comes to Chelsea and becomes a legend.

Osimhen equals legendary Maradona’s record in Napoli

Victor Osimhen equaled late Diego Armando Maradona’s scoring feat at Napoli after netting a hat-trick in the club’s 6-1 victory at Sassuolo on Wednesday.

According to popular statistics website, Opta, Osimhen is now the third Napoli player in the club’s history to have scored 10 or more goals for four consecutive seasons.

Maradona achieved the feat between 1984 and 1988.

Attila Sallustro was the first player to set the record for the Partenopei, between 1929/30 and 1932/33).

Osimhen scored 10 goals in 24 league games in his first season (2020/21).

The striker followed it up with 14 goals in 27 league outings the following season.

The 25-year-old has already scored 11 goals in 15 Serie A appearances this term.

  • Why Chelsea need Osimhen – Mikel Obi

Why Chelsea need Osimhen – Mikel Obi

Former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has said the London club needs to sign Victor Osimhen from Napoli.

Mikel has been a harsh critic of the new ownership structure at the Stamford Bridge club.

He does not believe their current rebuilding job has been a very impressive one, as the club languishes in midtable.

In a rant this week, the ex-Nigerian international said: “We need a striker, simple as that. We need a good one. If you watch (Erling) Haaland, most of his goals, where are they? In the f***ing box. The box. So that’s where we need a striker to score goals – to get in the f***ing box.”

“For me, the one we need is Osimhen because he’s someone who would come in and score goals. He’s not the most technical guy but what he does is get you goals and that’s what we really need, we need goals. When I see him I can tell he is at the Chelsea level and he’ll get better with time.

“But the good thing about him is that he knows what his job is. His job is not to come in and mess around and that whole thing. It’s to score goals.”
