Napoli striker Victor Osimhen admits he’s excited being so close to winning the Scudetto.

Osimhen admits he’s full of pride over his influence on Napoli’s push.

He told Elegebete Tv Sports: “I’m extremely proud of myself, I’m collecting crazy numbers and this is good for me and for Napoli, my team.

“Now we’re in the running to become champions and celebrate. ”

Osimhen ready to become “an icon” with Napoli title win

If striker Victor Osimhen manages to lead Napoli to their first Italian Serie A title in more than 30 years, he believes he will become a club “icon”.

However, the 24-year-old Nigerian said he would not be able to reach the status of late Argentine great Diego Maradona, whom he called a “demi-god”.

Maradona remains Naples’ biggest football hero.

He led the local team to their only two league titles in 1987 and 1990, and their stadium is named after him.

“I don’t consider myself as an icon yet, until I achieve the objective which the club has set itself for this season,” Osimhen said while picking up an award in Rome.

However, if Napoli win the scudetto, he said: “I think (I) have a very big chance of being named an icon.”

But, he added, “it wouldn’t compare to what Maradona has done for this club.”

With 13 games to go, Napoli are odds-on for Serie A glory, having a huge, 15-point advantage over second-placed Inter Milan.

Winning would be a huge lift for the city in Italy’s poorer south, where fans are passionate about the club.

Some street hawkers are already selling mementoes in Napoli colours and with a “three” on them in anticipation of a third title.

Shops are also selling cakes and Easter eggs decorated with Osimhen’s trademark face mask, which he wears on the pitch following a face injury.

“It’s been 33 years since the last scudetto,” Napoli Chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis said.

“Another title could make the city go crazy, I think it is already going crazy and planning (a party) which could involve two or three million people,” De Laurentiis said.

Osimhen, who is in his third season at Napoli after previous stints in the Bundesliga with Wolfsburg and in Ligue 1 with Lille, is Serie A’s top scorer this season with 19 goals.

In Rome, where he was given a prize by the Foreign Press Association, he hinted at future move to England’s Premier League.

“I’m working so hard to make sure that I achieve my dream of playing of course in the Premier League some day,” he said, adding that for the moment he was focused on the Serie A.

But he said: “I just want to help my team to win matches and win trophies.

“At the end of the season, we will see what is going to happen, but that is not up to me.

“It is for the club to decide.”

I was contacted before Napoli signed Osimhen – Jorginho

Former Chelsea  defensive  midfielder who currently plays for Arsenal, Jorginho has revealed that he was contacted before Napoli signed Nigerian striker, Victor Osimhen.

He said that Napoli sporting director, Cristiano Giuntoli spoke to him on the phone before signing Victor Osimhen.

Recall that Osimhen joined the Serie A side from Lille in the summer of 2020.

The Nigerian striker has gone on to establish himself as one of the best strikers in the world.

Osimhen is currently top scorer in Serie A with 18 goals from 19 appearances.

“They are doing incredible things, honestly, I didn’t know the guy playing on the wing [ Kvaratskhelia],” Jorginho told DAZN.

“I knew Osimhen. I had played against him in the Champions League and he had given a hard time to our defenders.

“Giuntoli called me before signing him and I told him to sign him straight away, he is very promising and is doing really well. They [Osimhen and Kvara] are flying and everything is going well. There is winning energy.”

Man Utd plot EPL transfer record fee for Osimhen

Premier League club Manchester United are firm on signing Napoli star Victor Osimhen after making him a priority summer target.

La Gazzetta dello Sport says United are prepared to break the bank and match the British transfer record Chelsea paid for Enzo Fernandez by launching a £107m bid for Victor Osimhen.

The Nigerian international has become United’s top summer transfer target off the back of impressive performances that have seen him score 16 goals and become Serie A’s top scorer.

Osimhen continued his stunning form with a brace in Napoli’s 3-0 away win over Spezia on Sunday which saw them extend their lead at the top of the Italian league to 13 points.

United first-team manager Erik ten Hag has had to rely on an injury-prone Anthony Martial and January loanee Wout Weghorst to lead the line in United’s three-pronged attack this season.

But the Dutchman is keen to bring in a new superstar striker in the summer as he attempts to build on what has been a brilliant stellar debut campaign in charge of the Red Devils.

And Napoli believe the Premier League giants will match the £107m asking price inserted in the 24-year-old’s existing contract.

“They are just rumours of the market. I’m fine here and I’ve never had such close relationships with everyone as at this moment.

“I spoke to the president, he is the one who decides, and he reassured me by explaining the club’s plans.

“I am happy with what he told me and the purchases are of quality: words were followed by deeds. I am very happy to play with Napoli and we will see in the future.”

  • Transfer: Victor Osimhen’s agent in talks with Arsenal

Transfer: Victor Osimhen’s agent in talks with Arsenal

Napoli striker Victor Osimhen is in line for a move to Arsenal this summer.

According to Goal.com, the centre-forward’s agent flew into London last week to conduct meetings regarding his client’s future.

The agent met face to face with Arsenal technical director Edu about a possible move to the London club.

However, the source states that Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis is not in the mood to sell his prized asset on the cheap.

He will demand a fee of more than £68 million, which makes any move to Arsenal very difficult to envision.

Napoli are in the Champions League for next season, while Arsenal will be playing Europa League football, which further complicates the move.

  • Arsenal joins in race to land £100m Super Eagles striker

Arsenal joins in race to land £100m Super Eagles striker

Arsenal owner Stan Kroenke will have to break the bank to sign Nigerian international, Victor Osimhen.

Arsenal’s target, Osimhen, will cost an eye-watering £100million, according to transfer guru Gianluca Di Marzio.

Speaking to wettfreunde, Di Marzio said: “I don’t think he will be sold for £80m because he was bought for £70m.

“So, I think that [Napoli owner Aurelio] De Laurentiis is very smart to buy and very difficult when he has to sell the players.

“I don’t think he will let Osimhen go for less than £100m – minimum.

“So, it depends on which club in Premier League will have all this money to spend in the market only for one player”
