Covid-19: Buhari, Osinbajo, SGF to receive vaccine on live television

In a bid to encourage Nigerians to get inoculated, President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo will be receiving their COVID-19 vaccine doses on live television.

Secretary to the Government of the Federation Boss Mustapha will also receive the vaccine on live telecast in a move the government hopes will help drive awareness.

Executive Director, National Primary Health Care Development Agency Faisal Shuaib stated this on Thursday at the weekly press briefing by the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 in Abuja.

He said: “On Tuesday, I mentioned that we will like to see a situation where Mr President, the Vice President, the SGF, critical leaders come and take the vaccine in full glare of the public to demonstrate that this vaccine is safe.

“So, we have to make provisions for those. But even in developed countries, what we have seen is that apart from the prioritisation of health workers, you have to also identify critical leaders that you don’t want them to be wiped off by the virus.”

Shuaib said experience had shown that vaccines are always better than health immunity.

He said for COVID-19, it would take approximately 10 years for one to be able to achieve health immunity and many people would have died if health immunity is to be relied upon.

The vaccines are expected in the country by the end of January.

Trending: I didn’t have sex with Osinbajo, says porn star, SymbasErothick

New York-based nude dancer, Symba alias ‘SymbasErothick,’ has cleared the air on a purported sexual affair with Nigeria’s Vice-president Yemi Osinbajo.

The curvy model had been pictured with Mr. Osinbajo in 2018, the outcome of which stirred up controversy and raised questions about the politician’s moral integrity as a part-time clergyman.

Speaking on Clubhouse, an online platform for casual, drop-in audio conversations, the American stripper denied having an illicit affair with the Nigerian vice-president.

Symba, who currently runs a sex toy boutique and frequently posts porn videos of herself, however, relished the idea of making acquaintance with Mr. Osinbajo if presented the opportunity.

The porn star’s conversation was shared on Twitter early Friday.

“Pictures could be taken out of proportion,” she said. “And that for example was something that was taken wholy out of proportion.”

She, however, said of her interest in the Nigerian vice-president: “If anybody has his number, you can pass it to me.”

Mr. Osinbajo had during the buildup to the 2019 general elections blamed “fake news” for the misinformation generated by his controversial photo with Symba and another lady.

“I had in fact taken pictures with these two ladies at an entertainment event when they were ‘perfectly clothed,’ but by the time the story was put out, it was as if I had taken photos with them when they were not clothed,” the vice-president had said at an event shortly after the allegations went viral in 2018.

Symba’s comments come amidst the social media onslaught on the private life of billionaire industrialist Aliko Dangote by his alleged jilted American lovers. Mr. Dangote office has yet to comment on the raging scandal, which broke out first on New Year’s Eve and continued on New Year’s Day.

Fresh crisis hits APC as plot to deal with Tinubu, Osinbajo thickens

…‘New Cabal’ Strikes Deal with Buni to extend mandate till April
…Concerned APC members kick, warns Buni not to attempt to extend tenure beyond December
    …Threatens court action
Fresh crisis erupted in the All Progressives Congress, APC, weekend signaling that the crisis which rocked the Party and gave birth to the Governor Mai Mala Buni led caretaker committee, was not over. It surfaced as a grand conspiracy seemingly designed to finally sideline Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and nail the presidential ambition of Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the party.
TheNewsGuru.com, TNG, can reveal that 27 leaders of the party, under the umbrella of the ‘new cabal’, as a first step, met with selected members of the committee in Abuja and concluded on extending the Caretaker Committee’s tenure till April.
The meeting was attended by members from almost all the geo-political zones, with former Governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, standing in as the South West representative.
TNG further checks also revealed that some of the resolutions at the meeting, which was held at the private residence of the Attorney General of the Federation, Shehu Malami, were:
extension of the tenure of the caretaker committee till April, 2021; commencement of a jealously guided party registration that would take care of the ‘new cabal’s’ presidential interest; whittling down of Tinubu’s grip on the party’s structure; and possible resignation of Buni as Governor and his subsequent emergence as party chairman, among others.
But a mild drama however ensued at the meeting when one of the conveners suggested that those in attendance should swear to an oath to prevent information from the meeting from being leaked to other leaders of the party.
The suggestion was however turned down by a few members, who dismissed it as ‘immature and petty’.
Meanwhile, following signals from the secret meeting, another set of APC members known as ‘APC Concerned Members Forum’ have warned Buni led committee not to attempt to elongate its tenure in office beyond December and should stop the proposed membership registration.
The Concerned APC Members, stated in a statement signed by one of the 2019 Gubernatorial Aspirants from Benue State, Ogenyi Okpokwu, that they supported the move to dissolve Comrade Adams Oshiomhole led executive council after it discovered that it lacked capacity to listen to opposing views within the party, internal democracy and listen to advise from members.
The group indicated that they were part of the court processes and movement, leading to the major Protest that led to the sack of Comrade Oshiohmole’s National Working Committee and that their expectation was for the present Caretaker Committee to resolve the internal crises within the Party, conduct Convention and handover to the duly elected National working Committee of the APC after the expiration of the six months mandate given by the National Executive Committee, NEC.
“As loyal party members, even though the composition of the Caretaker Committee was at variance with section 17 (4) of our party’s constitution which states “nobody can hold Executive Position at the same time with Party Position”.
They party’s National Executive Council breached this same constitution with the imposition of Mai Mala Buni led Caretaker Committee. Remember the word Caretaker is not known to our constitution.
“We obeyed the resolution of the NEC meeting as directed by our leader, President Muhammadu Buhari after they made the two-resolutions public, which is to reconcile party members in various states of the federation and conduct convention in December 2020. But we were shocked when we read it in the newspapers this Thursday that the Caretaker Committee is embarking on new membership registration.
This is outright fraud! How can a Party that have existed for over seven years commence a new registration instead of updating the existing register.
It is now clear that the intention is to divert ₦1.5 billion the committee has budgeted for the same exercise without procurement process.
The Committee is also planning the dissolution of all Wards, LGA and State Excos and conduct new congresses even though their tenures will not expire till two (2) years’ time, this is must be resisted by all Party members,” the statement stated.
As to the committee’s claims of having finished reconciliation in Ekiti and some other states, the forum said the public should know that Buni and his co-travellers have further encouraged crisis in those state chapters than solving problems inherited.
In particular, the forum made reference to Zamfara where it said Senator Kabir Marafa recently exposed the committee’s lies in a statement.
According to them, Marafa declared that the Buni Committee lied and that the two factions in the state are still very much alive each with its secretariat in operations, likewise in Ekiti, Rivers and other states.
The forum was quick to remind the CTC that National Executive Committee (NEC) resolution did not give them such powers to begin new registration of members because none of them were elected without party membership cards.
Are Governors Buni, Oyetola,Bello and other members of CTC no longer card carrying members of the party that we now want to give them new membership cards? the statement queried.
    Driving home their points, the forum now table their demands to include;
    1. The Caretaker Committee should begin the process of convening the National Convention in December with immediate effect
    2. All the permanent party membership cards that were printed and submitted to the party’s National Secretariat by APC Data Center for onward distribution to our members in the Wards, LGA and States should be distributed immediately. In case they cannot find it; they should request for it at our data center.
    3. The incoming National Working Committee should handle the updating of new register if we so need to update one.
    4. If our demands are not met, we will have no option than to approach the courts for interpretation of our constitution as it was done before you came on board and we will occupy our secretariats. The party belongs to us all.
    5. The most senior member of sacked Oshiohmole led NWC should be returned as Chairman because that is what our party constitution says.
    6. We call on State Chairmen of the parties not to join the illegal registration because is tailored for your removal from office in the long run
The steps of Buni led Caretaker Committee has further left no one in doubt that the committee has lost foothold in the discharge of its duties as unbiased umpires and now interested in squandering the 3.9 Billion Naira left in the Party’s purse which has been depleted daily.
Lastly, we the Concerned APC members call on President Muhammadu Buhari to Call to order the Caretaker Committee before they destroy the image and the goodwill of our great party due to their selfish interests and tenure elongation plot. We will not sit back and allow this to happen to our beloved party.

Ini Edo knocks Vice President, Osinbajo

Actress, Ini Edo has condemned Nigeria’s Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo on social media.

The actress noted that the Vice President, who was once vocal, has been quiet and in the shadow.

TheNewsGuru recalls that Osinbajo during the week said that whatever police unit that replaces SARS must be “acceptable” and in compliant to all the tenets of the rule of law and human rights.

Edo is of the opinion that the VP is not as active and vocal as he used to be, tweeting, “I’ve been wondering what could have happened to make our once very vocal vice president @ProfOsinbajo go so quiet and in the shadows for quite some time now?”.

In the same vein, acclaimed Nigerian singer, Tiwa Savage in her recent Instagram live session lamented over the state of the nation.

According to her:“Nigeria is bad. I have so much to tell you guys. My heart is beating fast, my voice is shaking I am nervous. Nigerians are special people, beautiful people. We are hardworking, industrious, clever, street smart and happy. Nigeria is bad and because we are strong and clever people, we don’t realize how bad our country is because we are able to make do with what we have and manage. For decades, we have not seen how bad Nigeria is. We are not out on the streets to protest for basic needs right now, I hope eventually we will get to all of that. I hope we will not get tired and we will continue to fight the good fight”.

Take the message to your fathers!, Nigerians blast Buhari, Osinbajo’s daughters for joining #EndSARS campaign

After a tsunami sort of protests (online and offline) against a notorious unit of the Nigerian Police Force, daughters of the President and the Vice-President have also caught the flow.

The President and Vice President daughters on Saturday took to social media to join the #EndPoliceBrutality protest which seeks to stop police harassment, brutality and extrajudicial killings.

Zahra Buhari-Indimi, who is the daughter of the President, posted a photo of clenched fists on her Instagram status with the words, #EndPoliceBrutality.

The Vice-President’s daughter, Kiki Osinbajo, also posted the same photo on Instagram with the caption, “Police Brutality Must End Now… #EndPoliceBrutality #EndSARS.”

However, many Nigerian youths asked them to convey the message to their fathers directly as this would be more effective than a mere social media post.

Thousands of youths have since Thursday been publicly protesting the excesses of the men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Nigeria Police Force.

The police outfit, which is originally mandated to tackle armed robbery, has in recent years been engaging in the arbitrary arrest of youths under the guise of tackling cybercrime.

Osinbajo confers with I-G, others on SARS

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has met with the Inspector-General of Police(I-G), Mohammed Adamu, Director-General, Department of State Services(DSS), Yusuf Bichi and Executive Secretary, National Human Rights Commission(NHRC), Tony Ojukwu.

Osinbajo’s spokesman, Laolu Akande, in a statement in Abuja said that the meeting was held on Friday, to determine the next steps toward addressing concerns of Nigerians on the excesses of Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS).

“The Vice President and I-G later briefed President Muhammadu Buhari who gave further directives to the I-G on the matter,” he said.

Meanwhile, Buhari has directed the I-G to ensure that personnel of the force remained fully accountable to the people.

The President’s directive was made public in series of tweets on Friday night.

Buhari also affirmed the people’s right to public protest and appealed for calm.

Osinbajo had on Oct. 4, met with the I-G at his residence over the activities of SARS and other police tactical units.

The Vice President had told State House correspondents that he was angry that young people were harassed; sometimes maimed and killed by policemen.

He said such actions perpetrated by those saddled with the responsibilities of protecting the citizens were unacceptable.

  • #ENDSARS: ‘I’m angry about unlawful killings of Nigerian youths…’ – Osinbajo

#ENDSARS: ‘I’m angry about unlawful killings of Nigerian youths…’ – Osinbajo

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Sunday described the violation of young people’s right as unacceptable and annoying.

“I am very concerned, in fact, very angry about what I see, happening to young men and women who are arrested, in some cases maimed or killed by men of the police force.”

Prof. Osinbajo when approached by State House correspondents at the Presidential Villa on his way out of the residence this afternoon said he will ensure that justice is done.

Prof Osinbajo was asked mainly about the economic challenges facing the country and Nigerians, and also the reported recent upsurge in the activities of FSARS regarding harassment of people alongside different violations of the rights of especially young Nigerians by some police officers.

In his response, the VP who had earlier held a meeting with the Inspector General of Police today at his residence said the President and himself had discussed the matter on a number of occasions noting the President’s displeasure about such reports and his resolve to ensure reforms.

According to him, such violations are “completely unacceptable because these are individuals who are meant to protect Nigerians. The arrest, maiming or killing of young people or anyone at all, is completely wrong. It is unlawful and illegal, and anyone involved in this act ought to be investigated and prosecuted.”

Osinbajo commends ban on FSARS, criticises their actions
The VP said, “today, I had a meeting with the Inspector General of Police, we reviewed several of these issues. The President and I have had discussions on this, he is very concerned about it. He wants to see a reform.

“You are probably aware that the IGP has issued a statement looking at all these issues, in particular, the warning against the use of these tactical units such as SARS for purposes of doing anything other than anti-robbery.

“For example, and I think in his statement, he specifically said that you cannot have a situation where SARS says, they are investigating Cybercrime by arresting young men and women carrying their laptops and phones. Cybercrime is an electronic crime. I don’t see how you can investigate that by seizing people’s phones in a taxi or in their cars.

“It is very obvious that this is a major concern, a few bad eggs in the police force are causing all of these problems because it is all over the place, in different states. There is a need to take serious action.

“The IG’s statement today, is a good first step. He has said clearly that police men must wear police uniforms. You cannot say that because you belong to a tactical unit, you can dress in your casual clothing and be armed, because people can’t even tell the difference between robbers and the police, if you are not properly dressed in police uniform. So, clearly, a reform is in the offing.

“So, I will like to encourage civil society activists, young men and women, who bring this regularly, by the way, to the attention of government and the police. And I think that activism is important because they have been able to bring a lot of these issues to the attention of the police and government, and that is an important part of the process of the reform.

Continuing, he said “It is very obvious that this is a major concern. A few bad eggs in the police force are causing all of these problems. It is all over the place, in different states. There is a need to take serious action. The IG’s statement today, is a good first step.

“He has said clearly that officers have to dress properly. You cannot say that because you belong to a tactical unit, you can dress in your casual clothing, armed in a car. People can’t even tell the difference between robbers and the police, if you are not properly dressed in police uniform.”

Urging that all hands be on deck to effect reforms, the VP said “I think that we all have to work together to ensure that the police and law enforcement agents, do what their duty is and their duty is to protect us, protect our society and livelihoods and homes.

“By the way, many of them are doing their duties excellently well, but there are some of them who are engaged in these activities. So, we must see this as something we all must work together to achieve, as individuals, to bring to the attention of the police and government, where there have been violations.

“And on the part of government and the police: to ensure that every one of those allegations is properly investigated and those found responsible are prosecuted and publicized so that people know that prosecution has taken place and this is the consequence. I am very confident that we will have a reformed police force and that process has already begun.”
