    Covid-19 in Aso-Villa: Osinbajo goes into isolation, hold meetings via video conferencing

    Following reports of Coronavirus invasion of the presidency, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has on Tuesday gone into self-isolation.

    Osinbajo’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Laolu Akande, stated this on Tuesday via his official Twitter account, @Akandeoj.

    In his tweet, Akande said his principal is self-isolating in accordance with the “protocols” of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control.

    Recall that TheNewsGuru (TNG) had earlier reported that Abba Kyari, Chief of Staff to the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), tested positive for coronavirus on Tuesday.

    It was also gathered that the Presidential Task Force on coronavirus led by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, was on an inspection visit to the Villa on Tuesday.

    As of Tuesday evening, there are 44 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Nigeria including Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed.

    Vice President Yemi Osinbajo yesterday visited the family of his late escort rider, Insp. Ali Gomina.

    The deceased was an escort rider attached to his office.

    Gomina died in an auto accident along the Abuja Airport road as he led the vice president’s convoy on Friday.

    His remains were buried immediately in accordance with Islamic rites.

    The VP visited Gui Community in FCT, to condole with the family.

    Osinbajo was received by the leader of the community, Alhaji Alhassan Yussuf.

    Osinbajo’s spokesperson, Laolu Akande, spoke to newsmen after the visit.

    “He decided to come today to personally express his condolence, the wife, the children and the community and to say that himself and the federal government of Nigeria will continue to support the family and do everything necessary to comfort this family.

    “He also expressed his personal regrets; he is very greatly saddened by what has happened and decided to come and show it personally.”

    On the children’s worry that their father’s death could force them to end their education, Akande assured that it won’t be a problem.

    He added that government of President Muhammadu Buhari was compassionate.

    The office of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has announced the death of one of the police escort riders in his convoy, Inspector Ali Gomina, aged 45.

    “Gomina was involved in a road accident while on official duty today”, Laolu Akande the SSA Media to Osinbajo said in a statement on Friday night.

    “The accident occurred on the road to the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport. The Vice President, who is greatly saddened by this occurrence, has aborted the trip.

    “The Vice President described Gomina as a diligent, hardworking and serious-minded officer who will be greatly missed by the team. He is survived by his wife, children and relatives.

    • Second is his fear of God, which moderates his attitude and produces the humility many know him for.
    • Third is his preparation, evinced by past and current hardworking ethos.
    • And lastly, his knowledge, strategy and timing, proof that indeed he knows what to do and how to get it done, often times.

    Concluding Akande said ” I have gladly been a student this past 5 years working closely for this very good man. And we are all thankful to God for preserving his life and for blessing him so much for God’s own glory.”

    President Muhammadu Buhari called his Vice-President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, by phone on Sunday to congratulate him on his 63rd birthday.

    During the telephone call Sunday afternoon Buhari commended Osinbajo for his loyalty and dedication to the administration.

    President Buhari said the intellectual capacity of the Vice-President has impacted positively on the overall accomplishments of Federal Government, most notably, in the economic and social intervention programmes.

    The President joined family members, friends and associates of Osinbajo in wishing him joyous birthday celebrations.

    He also prayed Almighty God to endow the Vice-President with greater wisdom and long life to continue to serve the nation and humanity

    Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, on Friday, advised Nigerians to always contribute their quota to the development of the country.

    Osinbajo gave the advice at the final burial ceremony of Muniat Deborah Mimiko, mother of former governor of Ondo state, Olusegun Mimiko, in Ondo town.

    The final burial ceremony of the late Muniat Mimiko, mother of former governor of Ondo state was witnessed by personalities from all walks of life.

    The Civic Centre, Ondo,venue of the ceremony was packed to the brim by politicians who came to pay their last respects to Mimiko’s late mum. Irrespective of their political leanings,they all came to identify with the Mimiko’s.

    Osinbajo, who was one of the special guests at the event described the deceased as a woman who contributed her quota to the development of the country.

    Other eminent Nigerians who graced the event were, Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, Ekiti governor, Kayode Fayemi, the Minister of State for Niger Delta Affairs,Tayo Alasoadura, Olusola Oke, Ife Oyedele, Secretary to Ondo state government, Ifedayo Abegunde (Abena) among others.

    Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan alongside his wife, Patience, on Saturday attended the funeral service of Late Elder Gabriel Emmanuel Nkanang, father of Gov. Emmanuel Udom of Akwa Ibom Ibom State.

    The service was conducted by the United Evangelical Church/Qua Iboe Church, Awa-Iman, Onna Local Government Areas of Akwa Ibom State.

    Born on May 7, 1929, Nkanang passed on Dec. 1, 2019, at the age of 90.

    Serving governors present included Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta, Ben Ayade of Cross River, Godwin Obaseki of Edo, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu, Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti, Abubakar Bello of Niger and Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto States.

    Other Governors that attended the service were Adegboyega Oyetola of Osun, Seyi Makinde of Oyo and Nyesom Nwike of Rivers States, respectively.

    The President of the Senate, Ahmed Lawan, and immediate past Senate President, Bukola Saraki, were also at the event.

    The event also attracted former governors, members of the political class, members of the judiciary and members of the National Assembly, including former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, and Minority Leader, Enyinnaya Abaribe.

    Members of the Federal Executive Council, service chiefs, clergies and traditional rulers also put in appearance including the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi.

  • Osinbajo off to Kenya for Moi’s funeral

    VICE President Yemi Osinbajo (SAN) will depart Abuja for Nairobi today to represent Nigeria at the funeral of former Kenyan President Daniel Arap Moi.

    A statement by Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity Laolu Akande said “Prof. Osinbajo would be joining other African Heads of State and world leaders expected at the occasion scheduled to hold at the Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi.

    “The Vice President, who would be accompanied on the trip by senior government officials, leaves for Nairobi today and is expected back in Nigeria later tomorrow, 11th February, 2020”, the statement said.

    Moi, who died on Tuesday, February 4, aged 95, was the second and longest-serving President of Kenya from 1978 to 2002.
